Rebecca Schuman is an essayist and author.Schuman spent several years working in media and publishing in New York City. She has taught at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Ohio State, the creative nonfiction program at Stanford Continuing Studies, and is currently a professor pro tempore of literature at the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon.Schuman wrote the the "Deutschland Über Us" column for The Awl, and her work has appeared in Slate, Quartz, Literary Hub, Guernica, the Washington Post, and the Atlantic. Her first book, "Kafka and Wittgenstein," was published in 2015. Her second book, "Schadenfreude, A Love Story," was published in 2017.Schuman graduated from Vassar College and received her PhD in German from the University of California at Irvine.
