Dr. Robert S. McElvaine is a historian. Currently, he is Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Millsaps College in Jackson MI, where he has been teaching since 1973. He is considered one of the world's leading historians of the Great Depression. He is known for his work on the centrality of misperceptions of differences and inequality between the sexes in the unfolding of human history.
McElvaine is the author of eight books and the editor of three. His first book, "Down and Out in the Great Depression: Letters from the “Forgotten Man”," was published in 1983.
