Ronan Kelly is a veteran documentary-maker and broadcaster who has worked with RTÉ since 1987, following earlier roles with CNN, Channel 13 in New York, and as a commercial video producer. He began at RTÉ as a presenter and reporter on television health and environment programmes before transitioning to radio production in 1990. His radio credits include producing flagship programmes such as The Gay Byrne Show, Today with Pat Kenny, Liveline, Five Seven Live, and The Marian Finucane Show. He played a key role in modernizing RTÉ Radio, including the computerization of production systems in 2000 and the launch of RTÉ Choice in 2007. Since 2011, Kelly has been a core contributor to Documentary On One, and previously created the acclaimed short-form audio series The Curious Ear. He is also known for presenting Playback and currently reads It Says In The Papers on Morning Ireland. In addition to his radio and television work, he produces and narrates the travel-focused video series Ronan Kelly’s Ireland, and has lectured widely on radio production both in Ireland and internationally.
