Sarah McBride is an American politician and LGBTQ+ activist serving as a Delaware state senator since 2020, becoming the first openly transgender state senator in U.S. history. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously worked as National Press Secretary for the Human Rights Campaign and interned in the Obama White House, where she was the first openly transgender woman to do so. McBride authored the memoir Tomorrow Will Be Different and has been a leading advocate for LGBTQ+ equality, healthcare access, and civil rights legislation at both state and national levels.
