Scott Metcalfe is a conductor, music director, and scholar specializing in European music from the fifteenth through seventeenth centuries. He is the musical and artistic director of the vocal ensemble Blue Heron, which he founded in 1999 to perform Renaissance and early Baroque repertoire. Metcalfe also served as music director of New York City’s Green Mountain Project from 2010 to 2019, leading performances of Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and related programs. He has guest directed ensembles including TENET, the Handel and Haydn Society, Emmanuel Music, the Toronto Consort, and Seattle Baroque, conducting repertoire that ranges from Guillaume de Machaut and Guillaume Du Fay to Monteverdi, Charpentier, Purcell, and Bach.
