Sol Hanna is the producer and host of the Treasure Mountain Podcast. He is also producer and narrator of The Forest Path Podcast and the Buddha's Wisdom Podcast, as well as the producer of the Ajahn Brahm Podcast. Together these podcasts make up the Everyday Dhamma Network ( https://www.everydaydhamma.net ). In his time he has done a number of retreats and spent two years training with Ajahn Brahm at Bodhinyana Monastery. After disrobing he joined the Buddhist Society of Western Australia Committee, later becoming vice president for four years, and president for four years. During his first stint of eight years on the Committee he set up the first website in 2001 to share teachings, then set up a podcast - possibly the first ever Buddhist podcast - back in 2004. He knew there would be a demand for the teachings of Ajahn Brahm and the other teachers of the Buddhist Society of WA, and there just needed to be good recording and distribution via the internet. The website and podcasts were very popular, in part because we were one of the first English language Buddhist sites on to the internet back in 2001, which had a lot of teachings in audio format that could be downloaded. In 2006, Sol led an effort to start a You Tube channel for the Buddhist Society of Western Australia. Today this channel has had 35 Million views and 175,000 subscribers (as of April 2022). It’s still growing. The increased demand is a testimony to the quality of the teachings, the capacity of the online volunteers to make regular episodes easily available across a range of platforms, and the intense latent interest in Dhamma within the broader community. The whole internet landscape has changed dramatically since the turn of the century. Podcasting is bigger than ever before, so many don’t realise the potential of this audio communication format. In the early days of Buddhism followers of the Buddha were referred to as “savakas” - those who had "heard" the Dhamma. Since that time the oral tradition has been the primary means of transmission of Dhamma - so this is just an extension, a modern-day way for many, many more people to “hear” the Dhamma. Sol's aim over the next few years is to see if he can make Treasure Mountain realise that potential.
