Stephan Talty is an author and journalist. He is known for having created the character of Abbie Kearney, a fictional detective who pursues serial killers in Buffalo. In addition to writing detective fiction, he has written several nonfiction books on crime and American history.Talty worked as a freelance journalist in Dublin and New York and contributed articles for the New York Times Magazine, GQ, Playboy, the Irish Times, and the Chicago Review.Talty's first book, "Mulatto America: At the Crossroads of Black and White Culture: A Social History," was published in 2004.Talty was born in New York. He attended Amherst College in Massachusetts, before becoming a journalist at the Miami Herald.
