Subir Sarkar is an Indian astroparticle physicist and cosmologist known for his research on the dark sector and astroparticle physics. Born on 12 September 1953 in Ichapore, India, he has been based at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford since 1990. He served as Head of the Oxford Particle Theory Group from 2011 to 2019 and was Niels Bohr Professor at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen from 2013 to 2018. Since 2021, he has held the titles of Emeritus Professor at Oxford and Emeritus Fellow of Linacre College. He served on the Advisory Board of the Gruber Cosmology Prize from 2014 to 2020 and has been a member of Commission C4 on Astroparticle Physics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics since 2021.
