After the financial meltdown in 2009, Susanna was dragged, kicking and screaming, into freelancing. She lived in 7 different places in 5 years - including the beautiful Republic of Panama - and realized she's now an Anywhereist. With work that's completely portable, Susanna can live anywhere in the world (at least, anywhere with an internet connection). She's based in Central Florida, USA, for now, but that could change at a moment's notice!
Back to Panama! Five years ago, I wrote an article titled How I Survived the Polar Vortex. That was when I lived in Panama full time, but escaping the recent frigid temperatures in the US is a pretty nice thing to do right now! This episode was recorded a few days before I left the US to revisit Panama, where I’ll stay until mid-March. I’m writing these show notes today from my lovely accommodation on the beach on the Azuero Peninsula. (When we recorded it the episode, I was home in Florida.) I’ve got a lovely breeze blowing in from the ocean as I sit on the veranda, and I can hear the surf breaking on the sandy beach just a couple hundred feet from where I sit. It’s not a white sand beach – Panama doesn’t have those – but I’ll take it. And as you can see, the beach is nearly deserted. My first day here I went for a long walk, and only saw two other people, and one dog. Such are the joys of an Anywhereist life! A long-overdue vacation transformed Belinda Woodhouse’s life. She decided to leave the Royal Australian Navy and let her wanderlust take her roaming the planet in free, sandal-wearing bliss. Today, she has been published over 70 times in magazines, online platforms and blogs. Bel has also written three travel books with two more in the pipeline. (See Episode Resources below.) Her photography is published with her articles, in books, and is sold on both Alamy and Bigstock major stock sites. Nothing is safe from her curiosity. Bel loves adventure, exploration and the wild places, where you’ll find her climbing all over ruins, tubing down jungle rivers, and exploring the depths of the oceans, all while laughing and loving every minute of it. She wouldn t change a thing. Bel currently lives on the gorgeous Caribbean island of Cozumel in Mexico with her best travel buddy, her Halloween born black cat Fantasma. “Becoming a travel writer is the best change I ever made,” Bel told us. She loves her life (and you can love yours, too)! Follow Bel on social media. You’ll find her on Facebook and Instagram. A photographer friend once told me that the best camera is the one you have with you. I think the same is true for planners — the best planner is the one you have with you. In this episode, Kitty and I talk about different types of planners, and what we look for in a planner. We also share some details about the planners we’re actually using. Planners are as individual as you are. We’d love to hear how to choose a planner, and what’s important to you, so feel free to post something in social media using the hashtag #anywhereist, or leave a comment here. Scroll down for links to the many planners we discussed during the episode. (Note that some of the links are affiliate links – that means, if you click and end up purchasing, we earn a small commission. Your price is the same either way, so it’s a painless way for you to help support The Anywhereist Podcast!) During the episode, Kitty and I each describe our own planners, and I promised a picture of mine. Enjoy! Hashtag #Anywhereist Got a comment or question about anything else we discuss in the podcast? Greg Hubbs traveled to more countries before he finished elementary school than most of us do in our entire lives. He continues to travel extensively. He also carries on the family tradition as the editor-in-chief of the Transitions Abroad website, which his father started. In this free-ranging conversation, Greg, Kitty, and I talk about his life, his worldview, and his advice for anyone who wants to expand their worldview through travel.
