Taban Lo Liyong is a South Sudanese poet, writer, and literary critic known for his provocative and unconventional approach to literature and education. Born in Kajo Kaji in the Equatoria region of what was then Sudan, he was raised in Uganda and later studied in the United States. His works, spanning fiction, poetry, and essays, challenge post-colonial narratives and critique the educational and literary traditions of East Africa. A bold and often controversial voice, Liyong has been a strong advocate for intellectual and cultural development in Africa.
