Terry Border was born in South Carolina in 1965. From the age of four he has lived in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. He graduated with a B.S. in Fine Art Photography in 1988, and began working in the commercial photography industry until 2001. Unhappy in the commercial world, he quit and then worked as a baker, and started creating metal sculptures in the evening.
Terry began working with wire in 2005, and blended this new media with photography, which led to what he calls his Bent Objects project, beginning in 2006. Bent Objects consists of anthropomorphizing everyday objects and foods by adding wire arms and legs. These mostly humorous photographed scenarios are heavily influenced by Alexander Calder, and Gary Larson of The Far Side fame.
Terry has spoken about his work at at The New York Times Building; in Sao Paulo, Brazil for Nextel Communications; and for many different audiences in South Korea as a visiting artist in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy.
He’s written and illustrated seven children’s picture books, and published two books of collections of his Bent Objects series.
Terry lives with his wife in Greenwood, Indiana.
