UPDATE:  Due to several positive COVID-19 tests, the Orlando Pride have decided to not participate in the Challenge Cup. Major League Soccer is expected to return July 8th.  The tournament will be located in Orlando, Florida.  The group stage will feature five groups of four teams and a sixth group with six teams.  The guys give an overview of the tourney. The USL owners and the USLPA came to a return to play agreement.  The USL Championship is expected to restart July 11th.  It's aim is to return soccer to home stadiums.  The guys talk about the logistics which must worked out to make it all happen. Oh, and we have a manatee spotting from one of our new favorite players!  His story is far better than Tim's encounter with an opossum in his house. Internationally, the Coppa Italia has a winner!  Who gets a pass to the Super Coppa?  Italy also has its share of Serie A matches.  Tim & Brodee have the recap. It's a razor-thin margin separating the top two in La Liga.  A dull draw and a handball controversy highlight the the past week. A couple of young Americans got a good taste of the Bundesliga this past weekend.  Fans liked what they saw! In the Premier League, it was another American who got Chelsea on level terms.  The guys look around the league, including the Goodison Park clash of Liverpool & Everton. Tim & Brodee also have a look at the transfer rumor mill.  In the meantime, fingers crossed that American soccer returns. Follow us on Twitter, Instagram & check out our website.Support the show.
Tim and Brodee check in with Memphis 901 FC Head Coach Tim Mulqueen. Last week the USL Championship announced a return to play on or around July 11th.  Other details of the restart are to be determined, so the guys talked to "Mulch" about everything to this point. Mulqueen discussed the challenges of training when they cannot be together even for individual workouts.  As restrictions have lifted, a new challenge awaited Mulqueen: practice while observing social distancing.  Coach explains how Assistant Coach Ben Pirmann and he made it work from past experiences.  He also proudly talks about how the team's veteran leaders have assisted in maintaining player morale on and off the pitch. The announcement of the return of soccer, combined with progression to small group training, has Tim Mulqueen more excited than ever.   Coach tells Tim and Brodee about the drills designed specifically to adhere to local health guidelines.  It's uncharted territory for nearly every coach, but Mulqueen says the players are responding well to training. While Mulqueen speaks proudly of the skill of his club, he is especially proud of the team's genuine respect and empathy for others.    He chalks it up to the character of the players and the off-pitch leadership of Tim Howard. Huge thanks to Memphis 901 FC Head Coach Tim Mulqueen for joining us.  FYI, the Club Store is open online at memphis901fc.com .
