At almost 40 years working in and loving wine, a wine podcast was overdue. So here it is.
40 years! But he sounds so young (said nobody)! Well, you see, aged sixteen, our host got his first job in a bar. It wasn’t strictly legal but nobody asked him the crucial question, so he left school and leapt into full-time hospo. At Cheers, a bustling cocktail-restaurant that burned bright in Tāmaki Makaurau (Iiving on in his heart) By the time he was legally allowed to be working with wine, he was a wine-waiter in a pretty flash establishment, Delmonico’s. A fine-dining restaurant with voluminous winelist and a Fabulous Fijian manager who made that very young man feel at ease with labels he couldn’t read, or pronounce, It was a warm, judgemental free and fun-filled welcome (Bula) to the world of wine. It’s proven hard to leave. Four decades later, he’s travelled the world. Wine-writing for print, radio and tv, hosting educating, creating winelists and celebrating the relentlessly hospitable vibe of wine people. If you’ve met him, then you know, that he will take every chance to share his love of wine; this podcast is Full of It.
