Veralyn Williams is a journalist and radio producer. She tackles questions of identity, social norms, and community. Currently, she is senior producer for WNYC's "The United States of Anxiety." Previously, Williams produced the WNYC shows "Radio Rookies" and "The Stakes." For Slate Magazine, she has produced the shows "Represent," "The Waves," and Panoply's "Family Ghosts." She also worked as managing editor of Brooklyn Deep, a digital investigative news, analysis, and data website chronicling neighborhood change in Central Brooklyn. Williams received her B.A. in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Hunter College.
Growing up in Senegal, Radio Rookie Arame Sene never thought about race. Then she moved to America. In her story she questions if she can identify as black and examines the disconnect she feels between African immigrants and black Americas.  Plus,Veralyn Williams, Radio Rookies producer, commemorates Radio Rookie's 20th year, and looks back at her time as a Rookie (the show is responsible for launching her career in journalism).
