Walter James “Wally” Lewis AM is a legendary Australian rugby league figure, celebrated as one of the sport’s greatest players. Known as "The King" and "The Emperor of Lang Park," he played professionally across the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s and later coached and became a prominent television sports presenter for the Nine Network. Lewis captained Queensland in 30 of his 31 State of Origin appearances and led Australia in 24 of his 33 international matches, earning a record eight Origin man of the match awards. He was inducted into the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame and named one of The Immortals in 1999. His many honors include inclusion in the Kangaroos' and Queensland’s Teams of the Century, the Australian Sports Medal, recognition as a Q150 Icon, and elevation to Legend status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2016.
