One of my favorite discussions is on this episode with Brittany Drake from Pity Sex where we speak about psychology, being a female in independent music and being positive. It's a very enlightening chat and showcases how you can have interests outside of the art that you create. Please visit my fundraising page to help the show: http://www.patreon.com/xpurposex
I had the pleasure of speaking to Reba from Code Orange & Adventures one afternoon about everything from getting along with dudes, the positive affects of creative tension and playing the flute. Reba is a very measured, thoughtful person so it was nice to have a very relaxed conversation. I am also always excited to have a female on the show to get their perspective on our independent music scene. A very insightful listen.  MONTHLY DONATIONONE TIME DONATION
I sat down with my long time friend Stephanie Marlow who has a long history with independent music and runs a very successful PR company of her own that has worked with everyone from Deafheaven to Pallbearer to Have Heart. She has a great story and I was excited to turn the tables on her and interview her which is a position she's not normally put in. Enjoy!
Episode 210 - No Joy! Sounds like a dour way to start a podcast but Jasamine White-Gluz from No Joy is on the show today. She is the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Montreal based indie rock band. As you can hear from the chat, her and I have known about each other for awhile but finally were able to connect for this great discussion. We dive into the French/Canadian music scene, alt-rock beginnings and what it’s like to manage models (!). A wide variety of topics that I am happy to bring you. Episode 225 - Meghan O'Neil from Super Unison and Punch is gracing us with her podcast presence today. It was an absolute pleasure having her on the show to discuss being the “team mom”, coming from a musical family and evolving as a person. She’s incredibly insightful, the bands she’s played in are all incredible…what more could you want? Sit back, relax and enjoy this lengthy conversation. Consider being a Bone Marrow donor, like me. Episode 252 - My month of pure women awesomeness continues as I have my friend and business associate, Evange Livanos from Synergy Artist Management. She’s responsible for managing the careers of bands like Citizen, Real Friends, Superheaven and many more. She’s been in the game for awhile and we had a great conversation about all things in and around the music industry, booking bands and choosing your own path. In the last episode of our themed month, amazing women in music, we have Portia Sabin from Kill Rock Stars on the show. We dive into her first experiences with independent music, playing in bands and education. It’s a rad discussion that treads on topics we don’t get the chance to explore on the show very much. Episode 272 - Happy Wednesday! This week we have an engaging conversation on the rise, fall and rise story with Sierra Kusterbeck from Neaux and Versa Emerge. She rose to prominence as the singer of pop/rock band Versa Emerge in the early 2000’s at an early age, but ran into a wall and has now taken a more nuanced view of creativity and playing music in her band Neaux. It’s a really eye-opening episode that I hope you dive deep into! Episode 306 - The month of focusing on awesome women is in full swing and today we have Shawna Potter from War On Women hanging out with us. We talk about “working in the system” like what the band experienced on Warped Tour, trying to have a meaningful impact and part time band life. Label talk! I have my good friend Lisa Garelick who works at Equal Vision Records as a project manager on the show this week. She has a ton of experience in all the comings and goings in the music industry from management, booking, PR and more. We have a in depth chat about street punk, some behind the scenes music industry talk and how hustle plays an important role in her development. Enjoy this pleasant chat!
