About This List

PODCAST CURATOR'S NAME: Sarah Sylvetsky WHY THIS THEME?: Cybersecurity podcasts are a perfect intersection of technology and true crime. Get ready for great stories and drama with valuable and interesting information for pros and amateurs!
  1. Gabi Siboni joins us to talk about standards, challenges and current initiatives in Israel - perhaps most thoroughly-cyber-protected nation on the planet.
  2. Jayson E. Street tells us a story about the time he broke into a bank in Beirut Lebanon.
  3. A few hours before midnight on New Year’s Eve, the mysterious hacking group the Dark Overlord tweeted a link to an encrypted file: “We'll be providing many answers about 9/11 conspiracies through our 18,000 secret documents leak.”This is just the latest in a string of high profile hacks by the Dark Overlord, who have popped celebrity plastic surgeons, schools, family businesses and Netflix studios. Their motivation is simple: they want money, and they’re not afraid to extort people for it. CYBER talks to reporter Joseph Cox about the hacking crew and the motivation behind their latest hack.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
  4. WannaCry's "accidental hero" pleads guilty to malware charges, Samsung and Nokia have fingerprint fumbles, the NCSC publishes a list of 100,000 dreadful passwords, and Apple finds itself at the centre of an identity mix-up. All this and much much more is discussed in the latest edition of the "Smashing Security" podcast by computer security veterans Graham Cluley and Carole Theriault, joined this week by John Hawes. Follow the show on Twitter at @SmashinSecurity, on the Smashing Security subreddit, or visit our website for more episodes. Remember: Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, or your favourite podcast app, to catch all of the episodes as they go live. Thanks for listening! Warning: This podcast may contain nuts, adult themes, and rude language. Theme tune: "Vinyl Memories" by Mikael Manvelyan. Assorted sound effects: AudioBlocks. Special Guest: John Hawes.

  2. Lance was certain he and his wife would be partners for life. But it would take years for Lance to truly understand himself. What happens when you make a big call about love at a young age? … Have a story of your own? Email us at loveletters@boston.com.
  3. Kenneth E. Hartman served 38 years in the California prison system having been convicted to 'Life without the possibility of parole' back in the 1970s. He shares stories from his time at the notorious Old Folsom prison, his turn to activism, and his transformation after the birth of his daughter while he was still incarcerated. The day before Easter in 2017 Kenneth's sentence was commuted by Governor Jerry Brown. In December of that year he was released. Freedom is still surreal.
