About This List

Need to get more shit done? These episodes will help you manage distractions, control your attention and maximize your time.
  1. What would be possible if you followed through on your best intentions? What could you accomplish if you could stay focused and overcome distractions? As a society, we’re pretty distracted right? You can tell just by noticing how many people are staring at their phones all day long. But what if tech isn’t the real problem… or at least not the root of the problem? Think back to before smart phones. Without the endless apps and gadgets we have now, were you accomplishing absolutely all of your tasks, errands and big dreams? I was still procrastinating everything to the last minute. I was still finding ways to distract myself from what my soul REALLY wanted to do… or tuning into myself enough to even discover what that was. So today we are talking to Nir Eyal. He’s the best selling author of Hooked, on how to build habit forming products… and now his newest book, Indistractible: How to Control your Attention and Choose Your Life. I know none of you want to reach the end of your life realizing how much of it you wasted, so pay attention to this episode! We will learn: Why the opposite of distraction is not focus. And what it really isHow to use our natural tendencies for good How to build traction toward the things we REALLY want in life Show Notes:
  2. Ep 059: Today’s episode is actionable and timely. It’s New Years day and I know people like you have resolutions. 80% of New Years resolutions daily by February and only 8% of people actually achieve their resolution so today we’re going to make sure that you are in that 8%. My whole life I have loved resolutions. I’d write these big lists of things I’ve always wanted to do, places I wanted to go, things I wanted to learn. And I’d get in about a week and then they’d just completely fade away. Last year everything changed, and the one thing I did differently was addressing my limiting beliefs or mindset blocks. And miraculously, I was able to complete stuff. It blows my mind. Today we’re talking to Amanda Crowell. Amanda is an improvement coach with a PhD in cognitive psychology. She works with educators and individuals to help them gain clarity and get better at getting better. She wrote an article on the three mindsets shared by people who actually follow through on their goals and it went viral. So today we’re getting our own little coaching session so we can become one of those people. Just in time for our New Years resolutions. Today we will learn: The three mindset blocks getting in the way of your goals Some methods for keeping your big goals in clear view How to break down your goals so they’re achievable Show Notes:
  3. How many hours do you spend on your phone per day? Did you know that our screens are actually changing the way our brains work, including our attention spans, our expectations and most of all, our capacity to feel happiness? One of the biggest factors in happiness is having a sense of meaning or purpose and in making progress toward that. But thanks to technology, for the first time in history, we’re consuming more than we’re creating. This isn’t an accidental byproduct of technology… we’re actually being manipulated by companies who have their own bottom line in mind over the health of our planet. Here are a few stark facts:10 years ago the average attention span was 3 minutes. Now it’s 45 seconds.Multitasking results in a 40% loss of productivityExperts recommend spending 25 mins to 2 hours working on a project at a time. If you’re spending less then you’re killing your concentrationIt generally takes 23 minutes and 15 seconds to return to work following a distractionOur guest today is the perfect person to speak on this topic. Brian Solis is a tech data analyst who has studied the effects of emerging technology. When he started to realize the profound effects this technology was having on his own brain, he knew he had to do something to stop it. Today we will learn: How technology is designed to manipulate us and the consequences of that Steps to live with more intention once we free up time from all that numbing How to reclaim our focus to find flow Show Notes: Sign Up for The Morning Mind Love for FREE short daily reminders of how freaking powerful and magical you are, straight to your inbox!
