RATING
The creators of 1865 have done a superb job of painting the scenes with such precise background audio and music that it's as if this podcast were appearing on your TV. The ability of the voice actors to so accurately portray the emotions of the dialogue allows the listener to watch an audio movie through their earholes. The writers have scripted a precise storytelling through crisp dialogue that it rivets the audience in place through each episode. Jeremy Schwartz acting is nothing short of brilliant. A timely piece of history that holds up. This audio drama will surely be the watermark for others to shoot for.
I learned so many things listening to this podcast! It is amazing how may little things are lost to history!
This may be the best audio drama I've ever heard. The writing and acting are really well-done.
This is just an amazing show! Riveting, exiting and very entertaining. Outstanding VA carries this show all the way. A must listen for history buffs, but certainly also for those who love conspiracies, politics and drama. The only small complaint is the overwhelming amount of male representation and the somewhat clichéed description of women - but maybe it can´t be helped due to the topic and the timeperiod depicted.
Such a great Podcast! Love the voice actors especially Jeremy Schwartz as Edwin Stanton! Amazing work!
this story takes place immediately as our country falls into chaos. The story of 1865 follows the Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. Mr. Stanton is the man in charge of finding the killer or killers while trying to make sure the new presidential successor Andrew Johnson doesn’t undo everything President Lincoln has done. As this lesser known side of history unravels we see Mr. Stanton has an agenda all his own which will lead him to betray friends, honor and even the United States Constitution all in the name of his personal conviction for justice. From the soundscape and ambiance of the time to the voice acting and even little details like common phrasing and slang 1865 is the perfect mixture of Audio Drama and History I always wanted. So if you’re a History nut or just like documentaries such as myself and a fan of Audio Dramas look no further.
Well produced and acted. It's amazing the themes in 1865 match the themes now.
This is probably the best audio drama that I have ever heard. The actors, the sound effects, the writing, and high-quality production is just too good. Also, the behind the scenes bonus episode provieds great insight on how much work goes in to produce such quality audio content.
Most intense audio drama I ever listened to.
A technical, historical, artistic marvel.
Amazing work done to put you back in 1865 at one of the most tumultuous times in American History. Everything from the voice actors to the subtle sound design is perfect.
The first season has a tight focus on Edwin Stanton; the second season, while focused on Grant, gives the black characters more time to shine. Characters' actions have impactful consequences; the excellent performances give life and weight the the characters' emotions. Deals with ideas of ends justifying the means, systemic racism, corruption, and the pitfalls of trust. Takes some poetic license while remaining grounded in history in a way that creates an engaging narrative. The background audio and music enhance the setting. As the premise suggests, the cast is male-dominated and the few female characters mostly serve archetypical roles (though the female VAs also give wonderful performances).
Everything about this podcast is top tier. The voice acting is impeccable, the research and writing are wonderful. The production quality is equal or above many tv shows. And I've learned so much about this time period in the US.
