You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show

0:03

on Fox Sports Radio.

0:04

Well, hell yeah, it is the Dan

0:07

Patrick Show here on Fox Sports

0:09

Radio. It's LeVar

0:11

Arrington, Brady Quinn Jonas knocks in

0:13

for Dan Patrick and the guys. You

0:16

can find this show on the iHeartRadio app. And

0:18

as always, we are doing this show live

0:20

from the tire rack dot Com studios.

0:23

It's tire rack dot com, the official tire

0:25

expert and retailer of the Dan Patrick

0:27

Show. Go to tire rack dot com slash

0:30

Dan, try the tire Decision Guide and

0:32

see the full line of Kumo tires

0:34

special offers. Free Road has a protection

0:37

and mobile tire installation tire

0:39

rack dot Com the way tire buying

0:41

should be. How the hell we feel in here

0:43

on an extra three hours arrest?

0:45

Huh? Good morning?

0:46

Yeah, I feel like amazing, although a little

0:48

disappointed. The Masters is

0:51

already in a rain delays.

0:54

Oh, come on, var Oh the

0:57

rain delay for the

0:59

mess.

1:00

Is what I

1:02

will say this though, If there's any course that

1:05

will make sure that they play and

1:08

get all these rounds of golf in it's

1:10

augusta National, all right. I did

1:12

have the blessed opportunity of going and playing there,

1:14

and I'll never forget the morning when it was raining

1:16

and we were having breakfast, were like, oh no, I

1:19

might not get an opportunity to get out there. There

1:22

was a gentleman in a rain

1:24

suit with a blower while

1:26

it was raining. That's great blowing

1:29

the green, I want to say. I think

1:31

it was on number nine and I was like looking,

1:33

I was looking thinking to myself, he

1:35

does realize, like, it's just going to keep rating for at least

1:37

in the next thirty minutes. But that is how

1:39

well manicured that course is and

1:42

how much they care about that thing. So they will

1:44

play some golf today at some point whenever it stops.

1:47

Gosh, he was blowing it

1:49

in the rain.

1:51

I mean, what's you know Listen, you know it gives.

1:53

Them less blow when it stops raining. You know.

1:57

Yeah, I think they don't want puddling. That's small.

2:00

Oh now I got to ask you because

2:02

I have not had the opportunity to go to Augusta

2:04

National because there's sort of a you

2:07

know for people that don't know, like there's kind of an elite

2:09

class of people that are allowed even on near

2:11

the course. Like if I walk near the

2:14

course, I would get tased and hand handcuffed

2:16

and be told to go away. But Brady, you

2:18

go there and it's like, not only can you go, you

2:20

can play around of golf and don't worry about it. Mother

2:23

nature is going to acquiesce to you so you can get your

2:25

round of golf in. So does

2:27

it look as beautiful in person

2:30

as it does? Maybe not right now because

2:32

it is raining, But does it look as beautiful in

2:34

person as it does on television? Because on

2:36

television, the way they dress it up,

2:38

it looks magical.

2:40

It actually looks better. It's even

2:43

better than you could imagine because everything on TV.

2:45

You usually go there and you think, okay, this

2:47

is made for TV. There's gonna be some defects. There's

2:49

gonna be something. There is not a

2:52

weed that is anywhere on

2:54

that course on top for however many acres

2:57

it is, there is not one thing

2:59

that's to place, not any

3:01

mult pinestraw, nothing like. That

3:04

place is immaculate. I've never

3:06

seen anything like that. It doesn't

3:08

feel like real life. And so once you go

3:10

there you can understand the hype

3:13

and the reason why everyone kind of used that place

3:15

as so special.

3:16

Just different. When I had that experience.

3:22

That's it, none of it all

3:25

over. Hey, So when you're watching the bastards

3:27

and you marry me, none of it,

3:29

none of it grabs you, and you go, man, that's that's

3:31

a beautiful place. I'd love to be there because some of

3:33

who yeah.

3:35

Oh no, come on, I'm not even

3:37

really I'm just interjecting just to poke

3:39

at at Q and sort

3:41

of count at you as well, because all I have

3:43

to do is say.

3:44

Tiger, what's back? He's

3:48

back? What how's

3:51

he back?

3:51

It's right? Well, you know, tigers don't

3:54

like water, so I don't know how that's gonna

3:56

play out. They just can swim.

3:59

They can swim. They just don't like ton

4:01

Then now they don't like it. They just you know, they

4:03

can swim. They just you know, cats,

4:06

you know, they stay away from the water, you

4:08

know, but they can't swim.

4:09

You know, what do you mean don't

4:12

like water?

4:12

Yeah, we're talking about.

4:13

They don't like water.

4:16

They don't excellent swimmers.

4:17

And they didn't Tiger Woods say

4:20

yesterday when we heard him, And if

4:22

you're wondering where you can hear us slapping

4:24

around here on Fox Sports Radio there normally

4:26

six to nine am Eastern Time, three to six

4:28

am Pacific time. It's two pros and a cup of Joe.

4:31

That's where you can find this show. But

4:33

you know, we were talking yesterday in that time

4:36

slot about Tiger Woods. Wasn't he saying

4:38

that he wanted some humidity, he wanted some

4:40

warmer weather.

4:40

Yeah, for forts joints. But but

4:43

the rain isn't good for your joints. That pools

4:45

at your you know, at your injuries. It's

4:48

sore, real humid, it's

4:51

it's sore.

4:51

There's gonna be mosquitoes the size of seven forty

4:54

seven zone.

4:54

No, not at the Masters, it's too manicure.

4:57

They'll blow them bad boys right on off they

4:59

do. Bet they I bet they got like a mesquite

5:01

mosquitoes just

5:05

disappear.

5:06

Yeah, something

5:08

like the stick to you know, they

5:10

got Scottie on the s S

5:13

Enterprise beaming them up.

5:14

They out of there, straight to space.

5:16

I would have loved to have been somebody working at an ACE

5:19

Hardware in southern California and they go, is that

5:21

LeVar Arrington? What's he doing in

5:23

here? He's buying a mosquito racket near

5:25

the registered.

5:26

Because that's the truth. That's

5:28

the truth. And let me tell you something about

5:30

that. Oh I bangled

5:35

banglem that. Listen, you

5:37

have not had a true experience

5:40

until you have zapped an

5:43

insect. I'm just saying, and to

5:45

all the peed of people out there that want to protect

5:47

the insects and all that stuff,

5:50

I will zap a bee's ass too,

5:52

just so you know, I'll knock them all down.

5:54

You come near me while I got my my swater,

5:57

my fly tocintegrator

5:59

on. You're added here, I don't

6:01

care. I'll hit my kids with it. I'll try to take

6:03

them up out of it. I don't care if

6:06

you can get.

6:07

Bugs, and I don't know I've ever seen him take a strong

6:09

stance against bugs.

6:10

Who's that pete? I was just I

6:12

was joking, I hope not.

6:15

I mean, you know, but some birds, uh,

6:17

some some insects have like

6:19

fur on them, don't they like? What about a

6:21

hummingbird gets

6:24

that's considered an insect? Isn't it a

6:26

humming bird? Yeah? I think it's a

6:28

word bird. That's why they

6:30

call it a humming bird.

6:31

Yeah, I think the word bird kind of like veered

6:33

it towards the bird category.

6:34

Well, since you guys want to be smart

6:37

asses, you know they call dolphins

6:39

killer. Well, you know, Okay,

6:42

relax, relax.

6:45

Look, I'm just uh, you know, don't shoot

6:47

the messengers.

6:49

They do call them birds. You're

6:53

a bird.

6:53

I'm just excited for Tiging to be back. I'm rooting for him,

6:56

man, but I'm rooting for

6:58

him.

6:58

He looks strong, like he bends

7:00

over slow and

7:02

he gets there eventually. But all the highlights

7:05

that I've seen of him, he looks real strong, real

7:07

broad. He's he fills out

7:09

his outfit. You know what I mean?

7:11

Is he still working? I mean, this is right here.

7:15

Oh gonna die? We

7:19

have waited to kill me in hour three.

7:21

We'll play this at your funeral, though.

7:23

I hope

7:25

you guys give give him a wonder. You get my

7:27

eulogy, and and they have this song

7:29

on while you're doing it. Like LeVar, he

7:32

truly truly was

7:35

a good man that truly

7:38

tru hated this song.

7:41

Now, let me ask you a question. I'm

7:43

assuming you would want to.

7:44

Be buried with the Tiger

7:47

woods.

7:47

Well, the hall of Fame ring, your college football hall of

7:49

Fame ring. Now do we also

7:51

put the bugs apple racket

7:54

on the casket or.

7:55

Insand it's

7:57

a great question, man, that is

7:59

a great question. I almost feel like,

8:01

you know, like in ancient times, you know,

8:03

like in Egypt when they used to mumfi them and

8:05

all that stuff, and they put the one

8:07

thing in their hand and then the other thing in their other

8:10

hand, and they crossed them up, and it's like they had

8:12

like a hulk like look and then

8:14

like a staff on one side, Like, just give me

8:16

two zappers, you know, you

8:18

know, I'm to loss my arms up, put the zappers

8:21

in my hand, and like this here

8:23

lies a man that used to

8:26

zap them.

8:27

Yeah, you know, I have a question on this, and I feel like

8:29

you guys would be the experts to go to on

8:31

this. It's a question about mummies. If

8:34

you were gonna go to your final

8:37

place all wrapped up, wouldn't

8:39

you want it to be in like some decent outfit.

8:42

Like if I'm gonna go wrapped up, like give

8:44

me like a nice leather jacket, good pair

8:46

of jeans, some shoes, and if you need

8:49

to cover my face, give me a ski mask. I don't

8:51

want to be wrapped up in one play toilet paper

8:53

that somebody saved from COVID so they could

8:55

send me to my final place.

8:57

I seem more comfortable though, I

8:59

mean you to your grave site in a in

9:01

a herd leather jacket. I mean that

9:04

leather is gonna get a little bit like kind of uncomfortable

9:07

at some point while you're resting.

9:08

Were talking about like those guys are still like

9:10

from rock bands from like from the sixties,

9:13

they're still performing. All those guys are

9:15

in leather.

9:16

How often do you go to sleep with your

9:18

leather leather jacket that you'd.

9:19

Be wearing, and how much I drink?

9:23

Being honest, Well, that well, if we're being honest,

9:25

then if I had a leather jacket on last night,

9:27

I may slur a couple of words. I've

9:29

already heard three words I've slurred.

9:32

I may slur a word or two today because

9:34

I might still be a little hit I'm

9:36

just telling y'all how I got. I

9:38

got hit up last night. Stay college,

9:41

baby, we are

9:45

I got hit up?

9:46

Yeah?

9:46

Can you explain to the Dan Patrick listeners

9:48

who are unaware of your location and why

9:50

you were excited about the later star time.

9:53

Because I'm in State College, Pa, Mike people,

9:56

and uh, well, so

9:58

I'm here. It's blue White

10:01

weekend, it's spring football going on, obviously,

10:03

but I'm also here doing some nil business

10:06

hung out with the other sports teams with

10:08

a panel that I did last evening. It was awesome.

10:11

It was great, and

10:13

did a kind of like a shark tank

10:15

deal earlier yesterday and got those

10:17

things out of the way. But once I finished

10:20

up that panel, guys, it

10:23

was LaVar Allen time and

10:25

it went down. I didn't count.

10:27

I didn't want to count. But they you

10:29

know, the the fair here

10:32

is improving tremendously,

10:34

like we're updating so

10:36

much now. So I was eating oysters

10:39

last night, man, I had I had,

10:42

uh what what type of baked chicken

10:44

or like roasted chicken and mushroom

10:48

risotto with some asparagus

10:51

and some oysters. And I didn't count

10:53

how many LaVar islands that I

10:55

had. And that, my friends,

10:58

is why I sound the way that I sound. I

11:00

mean, I feel like I sound good, but I may

11:03

What a LeVar island is though, yeah,

11:06

as well, it's a it's a long island

11:08

that you know, Kean and Jonas

11:10

named LeVar Island because well, that's my

11:12

poison of choice.

11:15

And for those of you don't know what a long island is, just

11:17

think about every alcohol ever created in

11:19

one glass at the

11:21

time.

11:22

LeVar doesn't know this, but here's what I do. When I do choose

11:24

to go have a LeVar Island, I will

11:27

ask for it, and I may I have to make sure

11:29

they bring it out in a cold mug

11:31

or a cold glass. You know what I do on the side

11:34

of that glass, LeVar put in the sticks.

11:36

Yeah,

11:41

we'll shout out to Matt McGloin.

11:43

Yeah, he's running for the Board of Trustees,

11:45

is he? The election is coming up,

11:49

man, it should be interesting and

11:51

the real competitive around here to get on

11:53

that board to trust I'm.

11:54

Just gonna say, I'm just wondering.

11:57

But usually when you're on those boards, there

12:00

comes a significant donation or

12:03

donations that have already been made that helps

12:05

helps the cause from getting Yeah.

12:07

Yeah, you do. You do fund your

12:09

your candidacy to get onto

12:11

the Board of Trustees, which, by the

12:13

way, you don't get paid to do. I

12:17

pay attention to our Board of Trustees politics,

12:20

and if

12:22

you ever want to be entertained, just

12:25

just find a way. I'll

12:27

send you some links and stuff so you could pay attention

12:29

to it. But it gets pretty interesting.

12:31

I mean you would think that there was it's

12:34

right and left, you know, that's that's

12:36

going forward. Seats and

12:38

well, I wouldn't say you wouldn't think

12:40

it's kind of what it is. It's interesting,

12:43

you know. It's very like game of throne ish around

12:45

here.

12:46

Yeah.

12:47

Yeah, you could get it. You go running

12:49

for a board seat, a route you can get you

12:51

can get it.

12:52

You can get that work.

12:53

You get that work, man, it's

12:55

a little competitive.

12:59

Yeah.

13:00

Well, listen, it is the Dan Patrick Show

13:02

here on Fox Sports Radio. LeVar Arrington, Brady

13:04

Quinn, Jonas Knox in for DP and

13:07

the guys here, and we are going to take you all

13:11

13:13

up next here, though, we are going to tell

13:15

you about somebody in the world of sports

13:18

who might have found out a little late in the game

13:21

that there's a problem with the next destination.

13:23

You'll hear from him next here on Fox

13:25

Sports Radio.

13:27

Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan

13:29

Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern

13:32

13:34

13:37

Hey, what's up everybody?

13:38

It's me three time pro bowler LeVar Rington,

13:41

and I couldn't be more excited to announce

13:43

a podcast called Up on Game?

13:45

What is Up on Game?

13:46

You assd along with my fellow pro

13:49

bowler TJ. Huschman, Zada and

13:51

Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right,

13:53

Plexico Burris. You can only

13:55

name a show with that type of talent on

13:58

it. Up on Game We're going to be sharing

14:00

our real life experiences loaded

14:02

with teachable moments. Listen

14:05

to Up on Game with Me LeVar

14:07

Arrington, t J. Huschman's Ouda and Plexico

14:10

Burrs on the iHeartRadio app,

14:12

Apple Podcasts or wherever

14:14

you get your podcast from.

14:18

So Dan Patrick Show here on Fox Sports Radio,

14:22

LeVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox

14:24

in for Dan and the dan Ets.

14:27

Coming up in a little over twenty minutes

14:29

from now, we're

14:31

going to tell you about the latest

14:34

interesting little wrinkle to the top

14:36

of the NFL Draft. Apparently there's a meeting

14:38

going on between a couple of key

14:41

members of the speculation about

14:43

what could happen with quarterbacks at the

14:45

top of the draft. We'll give you the details on that again

14:47

coming up here a little over twenty

14:50

minutes.

14:50

You're going to say, like a rule change for quarterbacks

14:52

or now I like went against them? Why what? Well?

14:55

Imagine that any imagine.

14:57

That anybody gets some blowback for some

15:00

commentary or.

15:01

No you know, oh no, I

15:05

mean sometimes you nothing.

15:10

I mean sometimes you know, sometimes

15:12

you have friends that are part of these decision

15:15

making bodies, and you

15:17

know, and y'all got to have discussions about it.

15:19

You know, I would assume, but

15:22

you know, hey, anyways, I digress.

15:24

I just thought that that's where you were heading, like, oh, there

15:26

was going to be a rule that was discussed by

15:28

the Competition Committee, and we'd hear quotes

15:31

from coaches talking about how,

15:34

you know, this just can't be a part of the game. These

15:36

quarterbacks can be allowed to do that. Imagine

15:40

hearing that type of narrative or conversation

15:42

take place as it applied to quarterback.

15:44

Can you say uh and kind

15:46

of allude to what we're

15:48

talking No?

15:49

No, no, no, hell no.

15:51

Can I just for the audience that is unaware.

15:54

You can give context. We talked about

15:56

tackling and the drop the tackling

15:59

drop hip or hip drop

16:01

drop drop it like it's hot. I don't know,

16:04

you know, all these these labeling of tackling

16:06

and all that stuff, And we discussed that

16:08

on the show yesterday and I

16:11

got a little, uh inflamed,

16:14

a little fired up, I gotta tap

16:16

it inflamed That's all I

16:19

just think. Got some point. What's gonna happen

16:21

is is that you're not going to be able to

16:23

say that this offensive player was

16:26

a goat, Like this quarterback

16:28

wasn't that good, Like, oh, he threw for

16:30

more yards than Drew Brees and Tom Brady,

16:32

so what Oh this running

16:34

back, what amazing run he's had.

16:37

No nobody cares. Get

16:40

your get your points, get your touchdowns. It's

16:42

great. You've put defenders

16:44

in a position where they can't defend.

16:46

So when you see all of this success that

16:49

these offensive guys are going to have, just

16:52

know that you're you're limiting defenses

16:55

to a place where

16:57

they can't really do their jobs. And

17:00

you know what, like so be it, but

17:03

don't get mad when these defenders start

17:05

feeling like, you know what, we're we're so

17:07

underappreciated and so

17:10

undervalue that we're going to line

17:12

up out here and we're going to get our cash. And

17:14

the only thing that matters is well trying

17:16

to break on the ball when the ball

17:18

is in the air, or trying to get a

17:20

sack when a sack is appropriate.

17:23

However, you get that sack and that's

17:25

about it. That's that's really kind of all you'll

17:27

see from defenders at some point.

17:29

Isn't it interesting that the person from

17:32

you know, I guess in

17:34

the league that got upset about this is

17:37

also a defender kind of jan.

17:40

If you're being a dbag, don't

17:42

do that, don't do that. I'm just saying, don't

17:44

do that.

17:44

I'm just saying, how far is it?

17:46

Don't stop? Don't you don't want to go? Because

17:49

no, I don't want that's too far. All right,

17:52

that's too far getting cut? Then

17:54

I'm going to get excommunicated because

17:56

you decided to be funny on a segment.

17:58

I'm not being funny. I'm just saying there

18:00

there's nothing.

18:01

I'm never sharing anything, which I

18:04

never have. So you noticed one thing that was

18:07

very prevalent in this this exchange that took

18:09

place. We didn't hear one word

18:11

from Brady Quinn.

18:13

You know, I want to stay out of these exactly.

18:15

I trying to stick to the script.

18:17

Exactly. Let's go back

18:20

to the script quarterbacks at the

18:22

top of the draft.

18:24

And that wasn't it, Oh.

18:26

That wasn't what was What was the script?

18:28

That was?

18:29

That was Jonas's tease that then let

18:31

us.

18:31

Tell but it

18:34

was a dark path.

18:35

But I would say that could be a quarterback

18:37

driving a Mercedes pretty quick here.

18:39

Yeah, well yeah, let.

18:41

Me try to save us here and say it is brilliant

18:44

that you bring it up. It's also brilliant the e q

18:46

E s u V from Mercedes Benz with available

18:49

digital light technology.

18:51

It's so smart, guys, even the headlamps

18:53

are thinking the vehicle is all electric.

18:56

The feeling is all Mercedes. Learned

18:58

more about Mercedes ns us

19:00

A at m b U s a dot

19:03

Com Slash Equi Dash SUV.

19:06

That's what I'm talking about. Hate tigers.

19:12

So what John Calipari.

19:15

Okay, yeah, transition, Yeah

19:16

yeah.

19:17

Well I'm just saying, you know, he went from being a

19:19

wildcat to a razorback.

19:20

There you go, there you go. So

19:24

can a wildcat beat a razorback? They're

19:26

too small? Aren't they small?

19:29

No? No, no, aren't wildcats

19:32

smart? Small? Not sure?

19:34

Not as big as an I know that.

19:36

Yeah, that's right,

19:39

John.

19:40

John Calipari was introduced this

19:42

coming a day after he

19:44

gave listen to a very you

19:47

know, I felt heartfelt speech to

19:49

the Kentucky fan base, and they need to uh

19:52

you know, he was looking around for he

19:55

was looking around for, you know, just

19:58

potentially there's been some other opportunity. But

20:00

you know, he just decided to say he will

20:02

always be rooting for the Kentucky Wildcats

20:05

and their bran base fifteen great

20:07

years national championship. And so then

20:10

all of a sudden, and it must have happened like

20:12

quick, that Arkansas pounced

20:15

on John Calipari. He couldn't say no,

20:17

and he agreed to a deal to become their next head

20:19

coach, and then had this to say yesterday

20:22

at a press conference.

20:24

You know what, I'm jacked about another

20:26

opportunity, Like I'm

20:28

like, let's go.

20:30

Now I met with the team.

20:31

There is no team, So.

20:34

Now I gotta.

20:37

Hunter's really extremely confident.

20:40

But we got to get a roster together and

20:42

some of.

20:43

It, it's a little

20:45

bit of everything, but we

20:47

will.

20:49

Hold on. Weren't all the weren't

20:51

all of those oxymorons. I met

20:54

with the team. There was no team. Isn't that you

20:56

got work to do?

20:57

They got they got some roster construction to do.

21:00

We got a little we got a little bit to fix

21:02

with everything is wrong.

21:05

I met with the team. There is no team.

21:07

But as soon as he said that. My mind literally

21:09

went into Fanville, Arkansas, of

21:11

John Calipari sitting in the locker.

21:13

Room and no one else being there.

21:15

I'd be like, well, I guess I gotta build

21:17

this team now.

21:18

Guys, first team meeting at ten am.

21:20

It's eleven thirty and nobody's in the room.

21:22

Still. It was a great meeting with the team. There is no

21:24

team.

21:26

Let me say this, in

21:28

hearing these words from John Calipari,

21:30

this is a cautionary tale

21:33

for those Arkansas fans who

21:35

are excited. Yeah,

21:38

he's pointing out the fact that he likes

21:40

having talented players who have the potential chance

21:42

of going to the NBA, and those

21:44

guys can test the waters if they don't

21:46

sign with an agent and they can see potentially

21:48

where they go, and if if you know, they don't get drafted

21:50

where they like, they're not drafted at all, they can come back. Right,

21:53

That's what he's speaking to But

21:55

I already feel like that

21:57

was a bit of the issue for his

22:00

time at Kentucky was

22:02

instead of looking at maybe

22:05

what other players are in the transfer portal

22:07

that he can start to build his roster around,

22:11

He's got to be patient and got to wait either

22:14

for kids who want to come play

22:16

for him, that were committed to him at Kentucky or

22:18

on that roster of Kentucky or NBA

22:20

caliber guys that now want to come to Arkansas. And

22:23

that was part of the issue that Kentucky fans

22:25

had was it was all about the

22:27

NBA. It was all about,

22:29

well, look how many guys I've gotten drafted in first round.

22:32

And I'm not saying that that's wrong

22:34

in a sense, it just can't all

22:36

be about that. It can't always

22:38

be about whatever school you're apping

22:41

a stepping stone to the next level, because

22:43

then you're not doing what you're paid there to do, and

22:46

that's to win. And I'll be the first

22:48

to tell you the NCAA March maadis that

22:50

tournament is the most difficult to

22:53

win. Now, I say that,

22:55

and Dan Hurley's one of the last two years in done it in

22:57

dominant fashion. But

23:01

there was a year a period of time where there's

23:04

a lot of success for John Calipari, and

23:07

I think after that that first five year, that incredible

23:09

run he was on, they got a little

23:11

more complacent. There was more competitiveness as

23:13

far as that the talent that they were getting. For one and donees,

23:15

even though they always had a top one or two class

23:18

with maybe one exception over his entire fifteen

23:20

year career there. The

23:22

reality was is John

23:25

Calipari in the last four

23:27

or five years had lost it.

23:30

He had lost that sense of urgency. He had lost

23:32

a lot of really the perspective

23:34

of what brought him there in the first place that he wrote

23:36

about in his own book. And I know you guys have heard me going this

23:39

ran before, but the truth is,

23:42

this can work for Arkansas because

23:44

this is a program that if you just look at the contract

23:47

that John Calipari signed with

23:49

Arkansas, a five year deal with

23:51

the salary that begins at seven million per season,

23:55

and you look at the fact that they're

23:57

going to give him a bonus just

23:59

for making the tournament, whereas

24:02

meanwhile he was getting

24:04

fired because he wasn't doing enough in the tournament

24:06

at Kentucky. That's just two

24:08

programs at different stages. And

24:11

rightfully so, I mean, UK is a

24:13

blue blood. They should be disappointed

24:15

with what's happened the last four or five years. And

24:18

so I think this could work for Arkansas, but also

24:20

could be a good and

24:22

a fresh start for a Kentucky fan

24:25

base. And Big Blue Nation that's

24:27

dying for someone who wants to come back in and win championships,

24:29

that's dying for them to come back that have more

24:31

success even in the SEC tournament

24:33

play, not just the regular season, but tournament play

24:36

as well as the NCAA tournament and

24:38

not being just all about first round picks, but

24:40

about winning in Lexington. And

24:43

so this could be something that I think works for both sides,

24:45

But there are elements of it that just throughout

24:48

the course of the last seventy two hours, maybe

24:51

the past week, that felt just a little out

24:53

of touch with what has occurred

24:55

in Lexington during John Calipari's last

24:58

four or five years there.

24:58

No, he's taken a pay cut, you know, he was making eight and

25:01

a half million of Kentucky's making seven here

25:03

just to chase happiness, to get away from a fan

25:05

base that did nothing but complain. I

25:07

feel for him, you know, all the success he's had

25:09

there fifteen years, a national

25:12

championship. Yeah, so what they've been eliminated

25:14

in the first game of the tournament two of the last three appearances.

25:17

Listen, no get caught up in the weeds. Point

25:19

is he did a lot for Kentucky

25:21

and to be disrespected like this, and you

25:23

guys chased him away to Fayetteville. You

25:26

gotta be ashamed of yourselves.

25:28

They chased them away.

25:29

Yeah, chased them away. He wanted to stay.

25:31

You heard him. I mean, it was a great

25:33

it was an opportunity that he couldn't pass up. I

25:35

mean, let's be real about it. He talked to the

25:37

team. There was no team that he

25:39

left for a great opportunity. You know, there

25:42

was such an upgrade, even though he took that pay

25:45

cut so that he could have his great opportunity.

25:47

You know, it was because he was going to go check out

25:49

this team that had such

25:51

great potential connected to it. And then he met with

25:54

him and there were nobody. There was nobody

25:56

there to

25:58

talk my talk to the team.

26:00

There is no team.

26:01

There is no team.

26:02

I do find it interesting though, just from some of

26:04

the ports, you know that his you know, comments

26:06

about hey, he has to have to go around, you know,

26:08

raising more NIL funds, and they've got that

26:10

all set up here at Arkansas. It's like, okay, well,

26:13

I mean for starters. Isn't that part of your job now?

26:15

Like, isn't that just the part of the job of any head

26:17

coach at the college level

26:19

is as how they're involved in a nil

26:22

and how they're going about fundraising

26:24

and construct you know, constructing some of these rosters.

26:27

Tim tim Brando made the point talking about

26:29

Patino during the Big East

26:31

Tournament. He said, Look, a lot of people were unhappy

26:34

with their performance early on, but you have to understand

26:36

Rick was like going out trying to raise nil

26:38

for Saint John's, Like that was a big part

26:40

of his job early in the season. That's how it is now.

26:43

Yeah, that's the reality. That's one of the hats you have

26:45

to word. That's one of the reasons and not to like completely

26:47

segue to a different sport, but well,

26:50

I was gonna say, if you look at Ryan Day and

26:52

Ryan Day who you know, brought in Chip

26:54

Kelly tip k and Ryan Day's not calling

26:56

plays anymore and he just wants to oversee the whole entire

26:59

operations because that's what's required.

27:01

Now. You are essentially a

27:03

CEO of the entire operation at

27:06

you know, in college football, college basketball, and

27:08

that's what you're responsible for, is talent

27:11

acquisition, talent retention. You

27:13

know, you're ultimately the one that's going to make the final say

27:15

on who you're bringing in from a high school level

27:17

from the transfer portal and what

27:19

that looks like and overseeing the

27:21

entire thing, and so you don't have as much time

27:23

for x's and o's and fundamental and

27:25

scheme ultimately you're responsible

27:28

for. But you've got to have a leadership structure

27:30

that you can delegate those tasks, and

27:33

you've can allow a guy like Chip Kelly to come in who's

27:35

obviously got head coaching experience a

27:38

bunch of it from his time at multiple

27:40

places NFL in college that you can

27:42

rely on. And I think he's done

27:44

that with Jim Knowles as his defensive coordinator. He's done that

27:46

with Chip Kelly. But that is the new modern

27:48

structure of what I think it takes now.

27:51

And in college there's elements of that too.

27:53

But when you hear a coach say he you

27:55

know, he's going to a program that's got a top

27:57

five nil you know budgets. Oh

28:00

okay, well what do you think Kentucky's was Do you

28:02

think they're not part of that top five? I mean,

28:04

how do you get a top one or two class every

28:07

single year? In recruiting? Kentucky

28:09

has a bounty of resources, So

28:12

what I would be concerned by. If I'm an Arkasols

28:14

fan, is Yeah, it's great. You're getting a Hall of Fame coach,

28:16

and no one can take that away from coach cal Wherever

28:19

he's been, he's always been able to recruit. But

28:21

can he allow this team

28:24

to develop and Gael together? Can

28:26

he you know, develop players

28:28

that can he make the adjustments in critical games?

28:31

That's been the frustration I think of a lot of Kentucky

28:34

fans, at least of late, and it almost feels

28:36

like this is kind of one of those final contracts,

28:38

final deals you get on your way into

28:40

retirement. So I'll be curious to see

28:42

how this all works out. But it could work out

28:44

for both sides of it, where Kentucky gets a fresh

28:47

start and obviously in Arkansas they get

28:49

a Hall of Fame coach that can come in and bring some

28:51

new life to a basketball program.

28:53

What do you think they're throwing a Dan Hurley? Like

28:55

I saw the eleven million report, but like

28:58

at what point, like how far are they will to

29:00

go to try and to try and entice him,

29:02

Because.

29:02

I'm well paying a basketball coach more than

29:05

the top coaching college football

29:07

right now.

29:08

I mean, think about that

29:10

that's what's out there. I mean, he's what he's done is

29:13

I mean, the only other one that has an argument would be Kirby

29:15

smart Over just his dominance at

29:17

the college level, like or

29:19

even maybe even Don Staley if you want to go.

29:21

The women's are out, but I just I

29:24

mean they.

29:25

Got dont she's

29:27

getting paid.

29:28

It feels like the

29:30

Kentucky sertch. I mean, it's taken on a whole new level.

29:33

Your guy Chip gains from

29:36

you know, the Magnolia Network and fix

29:38

her upper. Now he's going back and forth

29:40

with you know, Kentucky fans because they

29:43

are trying to entice Scott Drew. He's

29:45

a big Baylor alum, so he's trying to

29:47

make sure Scott Drew doesn't go anywhere. Like the whole

29:50

thing college fans in college

29:52

fan bases are psychopaths,

29:55

but entertaining his hell at the same time, like

29:58

nobody loves their program like big programs

30:00

fans do of theirs. Like it's wild.

30:03

Like that's why when LaVar you talked about it, when James

30:05

Franklin was having to defend himself

30:08

after this past season, It's like, do

30:11

you know, like how hard it is to do what he's done

30:13

at state college, Like, how hard it

30:15

is because he didn't beat Michigan. In Ohio State,

30:18

there's a lot of teams, like most everybody

30:20

in college football that didn't do that. So just

30:22

to hear the fan base's reactions

30:24

and how passionate they get, it's

30:26

kind of wild, man.

30:28

They want what they want. Yeah.

30:30

Another thing is is, look, when you're pulling in

30:32

resources and you have recruiting classes like

30:35

Penn State has, you can understand some of the frustration

30:38

from some of the alumni. I mean when you

30:40

see guys go on to the next level

30:42

and go on to the NFL and everyone like, well, wait a

30:44

second, how are we not able to

30:46

take advantage? I mean, And the other thing I'd say

30:48

in that.

30:48

Regard is who I mean, it's a valid point.

30:51

Well, I look at Michigan over Ohio State of late.

30:53

I mean, it's caused Ohio State to make a lot of these different

30:56

changes that have been an adjustment

30:58

for how they're going into the twenty twenty five season.

31:00

You know for Penn State, like you

31:02

got to make some of those changes. I mean I told LeVar after

31:04

watching some of the tape, I was like, you guys got to move

31:07

on from your offense coordinator. I was like,

31:09

he's not allowing the quarterback to fully

31:11

develop into what I think he's capable of being, excuse

31:14

me. And then they eventually did, but it was a little bit

31:16

too late at that point in season. But not

31:18

to get off on track on the topic of conversation

31:20

with basketball, I think what's

31:22

most interesting about who Kentucky

31:25

hires next is how that individual

31:27

handles the expectations. Because

31:31

when I look at like Dan Hurley, for example, as

31:33

the candidate everyone wants, and everyone's gonna say, well, everyone wants

31:36

him because he's won back to back national championships,

31:38

and I'd say, yeah, that's that's part of it. Like why

31:41

I would think he would be a great fit for Kentucky

31:43

is his

31:46

his energy, his focus, the way he

31:48

talks, what his expectations are, his standards.

31:51

They match Kentucky. Like you

31:53

know, Scott Drews had a bunch of twenty win seasons. That's

31:55

great at Baylor, but the reality

31:58

is you had, like the Kentucky had a twenty one

32:00

season during the regular season and it

32:02

wasn't enough because of their performance in the tournament.

32:05

And that's where you have to have someone like Dan Hurley,

32:07

who has got the expectation of they're not just trying to go

32:09

out there to win, They're trying to go out and dominate.

32:12

That's why he would be a perfect fit. But there's a lot

32:14

of Yukon fans that alum that aren't gonna probably

32:16

let that happen. And maybe he doesn't want to move and he likes what

32:18

he's built so far, whatever the case may

32:21

be. But they need that next head coach

32:23

to have that sort of mentality where

32:25

every single game is life

32:28

or death than matters, because that's the type of blue

32:30

Bud program they are.

32:31

Had they lost the NCAA

32:34

Tournament, I think he would have more

32:36

considered the job, I think, and he made a

32:38

point to I look around and going we have an opportunity

32:40

to go for three in a row. It's kind of like the Andy

32:42

Reid Chiefs, Like once they won the second one last

32:45

year, it was like, yeah, we're not retiring. There was no talk of

32:47

that, we want to come back and try and make history. But

32:49

I do wonder had they not won the NCAA

32:51

Tournament, if he would be more open to the idea

32:54

of taking the Kentucky job. You

32:56

know, if history wasn't on the other side, but we'll

32:58

get to see how that plays out. We're all so gonna

33:01

wait to see whether or not the Masters is going

33:03

to finally tee off here at some point or another.

33:06

We're looking at it still wet there, Yeah,

33:08

a little wet, a little soaked, but we'll keep

33:10

it.

33:10

Looks like they're letting the fans walk in.

33:12

Yeah there walking in, got you gotta

33:14

walk in accordingly, though, like nobody

33:17

nobody looks too excited. It looks

33:19

very I don't know if it's

33:21

like military would be the right term, but they've

33:23

got everybody in check there at Augusta National

33:26

Like, there's nobody acting out. Nobody's wearing like a pair

33:28

of jeans or like a pair of

33:30

salmon pants with some Sperry topsiders.

33:32

Everybody dressed the part and they are acting

33:34

accordingly as we get ready for the first round of the

33:36

Masters. Here coming up shortly, so it

34:59

Sometimes you can't got to everything

35:01

in the world of sports or entertainment.

35:03

Good thing, the guys are here to bring you.

35:05

In case you missed

35:08

step.

35:08

Of that, we turned it over to our executive producer Lee

35:12

Lap.

35:13

Good morning everybody, Good morning, Jonas,

35:15

Good morning, Brady, Good morning LeVar, guys.

35:18

In case you missed this.

35:24

Music to my ears, guys, In case you missed it, LSU

35:27

quarterback Jade Daniels, he's

35:29

set to me Hey, Brady, good morning everybody,

35:32

guys. Yeah, Jayden and Daniels said to meet with the Giants

35:34

on Monday. But on top of that, he's also

35:36

just scheduled a private meeting with the

35:39

Vikings.

35:39

In case you missed it, that huh

35:41

miss.

35:42

Okay, yeah, I miss that. I mean that's pretty

35:44

standard stuff that goes on this time of year

35:46

when you're a team that needs a quarterback.

35:49

I think both those teams fall in that category. And

35:51

Jane Daniels widely viewed as the second

35:54

quarterback in this draft class coming

35:56

off his Heisman Trophy campaign to Caleb

35:58

Williams.

35:59

So all that makes sense In.

36:00

Now, Washington's meeting with McCarthy,

36:03

Drake May and Jayden Daniels. What do you think

36:05

about that? That's massive news.

36:07

Oh yeah, I mean God forbid you.

36:09

You go and make sure you meet with all of them to see which

36:11

one you like the best.

36:12

Right, Well, what

36:14

goes on in those private meetings at

36:17

when you.

36:17

Are are busying, Oh, you don't want to know?

36:20

Oh, crazy stuff. Yeah,

36:23

there's a difference of when you go visit the

36:25

team and when the team comes and visits you, unless

36:28

it's changed. Usually when the team comes and

36:30

visits you, you go out to eat and do all that

36:32

good stuff. But they will put you through

36:34

workouts, to do a film sessions, things like that.

36:36

When you go to the team's facility, they

36:39

can only do kind of go through like your

36:42

medical which they should have from the combine. But

36:44

in the case of Kayleb Williams, he opted

36:46

out of that, so he probably is doing some of

36:48

that when he visits teams. But they're gonna

36:50

do interviews, They're gonna take you out to dinner, kind

36:52

of get to know you, test you on the board,

36:55

test you on film, you know what went wrong,

36:57

what went right in the season, all those things. But

36:59

that's that's since what they're doing.

37:00

It's a really nice world. You

37:03

know right up, some plays show

37:05

the coverages or showed show the schemes.

37:08

What you understand. I've never had to do

37:10

any workouts, thank god, I ain't.

37:12

I did not, did not experience

37:15

that, but I did have some amazing

37:17

times going out to get food.

37:18

I will say that what was the best dinner

37:21

you went on?

37:22

I wouldn't remember the name of the places, but

37:24

I'll tell you what the time

37:27

I went to New York before I ended

37:29

up going there for my last season in the league,

37:31

it was that was a very very

37:33

nice place to go dine. I'll tell you that.

37:36

Free agent free agent's

37:38

a little different though, compared to the like

37:41

draft draft prospects, because like that's already

37:43

proven, like at that point, they're really

37:45

trying to sell you know, sell you and entice you.

37:48

It's a little different when you're a prospect

37:50

because you're kind of interviewing still like they're the ones

37:53

that pick you.

37:53

You know, I agreed, but

37:56

they were still pre draft

37:58

negotiating back though, sore

38:01

it was kind of the same because they

38:04

were they were trying to convince

38:06

me. Believe me, Cleveland and Washington

38:09

were trying to convince me when

38:11

I was on those those visits. They they

38:13

were very very persuasive

38:15

visits to say that these damn.

38:18

Very ultimately, I mean again,

38:20

it kind of comes down to who they want to select.

38:22

Yeah, a little different.

38:25

What else, guys? In case you missed

38:27

this.

38:27

An update on that show hey O Tawni story, The

38:29

New York Times reported yesterday that his

38:31

ex interpreter, Epaid Mizuhara now

38:33

faces federal charges over the alleged theft,

38:36

and as the negotiations to plead guilty to

38:38

those charges. Uh prosecutors

38:41

also add that they have uncovered evidence that he

38:43

stole more than that four point five million dollars that

38:45

he was initially accused of embezzling, and have

38:47

reported that they believe he changed

38:50

these settings on Otani's bank account so that he

38:52

would not be able to receive alerts about any

38:54

of the transitions.

38:56

Had no knowledge of any of this. That's

38:59

uh man.

39:01

I thought it might go the opposite direction.

39:03

I thought that it was like, Okay, they

39:05

then sold him out. He's the fall guy, and

39:07

at some point he's going to realize how bad

39:10

this is and he gonna roll over. But

39:12

it sounds as though dude was just a

39:15

bad dude, and it's all starting to come out.

39:17

Now.

39:18

Yeah, you know, even if it came out

39:20

that Otani was gambling, who

39:22

cares?

39:23

You know, like he's in trouble.

39:24

I mean, but if he's not gambling on his

39:26

baseball games, if he's not you know, if fixing

39:29

games or anything like that, who gives. Who gives a rip?

39:31

The guy wants to go throw down a couple of bucks

39:33

on on the ponies at Santa Anita, who

39:35

cares?

39:36

Like, what is the matter? What's different? You can't

39:38

do that, right, That's illegal?

39:40

I mean, you know who knows that this? Yeah,

39:43

I mean I guess you just thought you could gambling

39:46

on other sports, like you know, this guy was being

39:48

betting on college football, international

39:51

soccer, like all these things.

39:52

It's like, you know, I wonder

39:54

how much knowledge he actually had of any of the sports

39:57

he was gambling on. I mean, I'm not saying that like

39:59

we do for example, but we do have to follow

40:01

a lot of different sports. I'm

40:03

wondering if this interpreter was just out there like being

40:05

frivolous about this whatever

40:08

was on, like he wasn't

40:10

losing his money. The

40:13

next thing, you know, he's he's like, all right, that's

40:15

let's see

40:18

what they're doing out there this year.

40:20

He's chasing for

40:24

some reason. There's a lot of Oregon State Hawaii

40:26

bets for for no reason whatsoever.

40:28

What's happening here with Otani? He seems to be very

40:30

active during the I

40:33

listened last game. We can bet on a lot of times that.

40:37

Yeah, well, keeping

40:39

the theme there, of course, John tay Porter for

40:41

Toronto Raptor Center. John taey Porter is being

40:44

investigated over those alleged irregularities

40:46

regarding prop bets where he uh, you know, hit

40:48

the under on all of his uh bets, where

40:50

he went, you know, left the game

40:52

early.

40:53

Well.

40:53

Adam Silver has said that he has possibly

40:56

committed to cardinal sin and is facing a lifetime

40:58

ban from the NBA.

41:00

Do you think, like that's a

41:02

different story, Like how

41:04

do you how do you rationalize

41:06

that a slump, you know, maybe

41:08

a guy's just you know, he's not shooting

41:10

well, he does get injured playing through something like how

41:13

do you start to rationalize some of those things?

41:15

You know, if a player does underperformed.

41:19

And by the way, wouldn't that entice you, like if you were

41:21

going through a slump. At least I gonna get something out

41:23

of this you just fade yourself, you know.

41:25

To work here a little bit.

41:26

H that's fine, but you can make a little bit of money on the side.

41:28

Right now, hey, let me bet this.

41:31

You know what I mean, the way

41:33

of hedging yourself.

41:35

I mean to get out of my own way.

41:36

Right now, I

41:39

feel like, you know, let's make a positive out of

41:41

this. Please that

41:44

alright? Something to see here.
