Your five-year-old is growing so fast and is demonstrating more independence each day. They may no longer look like a toddler, yet they still need your support just as much as they did when they were smaller. Your child needs to practice and build their skills in listening, empathy, communication, and problem solving in order to thrive in school and in life. Now is the right time for parents and those in a parenting role to continue to cultivate a trusting relationship with their child in order to support them as they grow. The tools available in this podcast from ParentingMontana.org will give you the knowledge to do small things right now to support your five-year-old in strengthening communication, building relationships, and developing social and emotional skills.

ParentingMontana.org provides parents and those in a parenting role a process and tools to teach their children to be confident, respectful, and to make healthy choices. These tools available to you through this podcast were originally developed for parents in Montana, yet they are relevant and applicable for parents everywhere. The Montana Department of Health and Human Services joined with the Center for Health and Safety Culture at Montana State University to promote healthy mental, emotional, and behavioral development through the resources available on ParentingMontana.org.

This podcast will give you access to parenting tools that follow a five-step process: Gain Input, Teach, Practice, Support, and Recognize. Using this process builds a strong relationship with your child as you address specific parenting topics. Building your confidence with the tools available from ParentingMontana.org will allow you to use the same process to positively support your child in future stages of life as they grow. Parents and those in a parenting role want what is best for their child, and it is not easy to navigate all of the twists and turns on the parenting journey. Building your skills will allow you to parent with confidence, empathy, and love. Take the time to invest in yourself as a parent now and your child will benefit for a lifetime. The specific tools available in this podcast for supporting your five-year old include: Anger, Back Talk, Bullying, Chores, Confidence, Conflict, Discipline, Friends, Homework, Listening, Lying, Tantrums, Mixed Messages About Alcohol, Reading, Routines, Sharing, and Stress.
