Welcome to the 8-4-play podcast,

0:38

the only podcast worth the salt that you got

0:40

from that aura deposit in Tears of

0:42

the Kingdom. Oh, you rehearsed

0:44

that shit. Damn. Maybe written

0:46

in front of me. That's right,

0:47

it's the only place for Japan games

0:50

and Japanese games. I

0:52

am your host this week, Gabriel

0:55

Clip Clip Boom De

0:57

Leon, your normal host, Mark Gaming

1:00

Jesus McDonald, was

1:02

so awestruck by this morning's PlayStation

1:05

Showcase. Awestruck. I just

1:07

didn't have that. Awestruck.

1:10

Is that like S-T-R-U-C-T? I got to use that.

1:13

Is that like, awestruck's already thing?

1:16

He was so blown away by it this morning, he pulled

1:18

not one, but both hammies. Oh,

1:20

that hurts. And any parent knows how

1:23

important the hammies are, so

1:24

we will not have

1:26

Mark tonight, we wish him well. But that won't

1:29

stop me, that won't stop this podcast.

1:31

Nope, I am joined by

1:34

four, yes four, quintessential

1:36

Tears of the Kingdom experts

1:39

who will share not only their triumphs,

1:41

but their exploding dildo backfires. Up

1:44

first. All of us? You

1:46

are on fire today, my dude. I

1:49

do that energy, Genki. Up

1:51

first. He's becoming a regular,

1:54

which means it's nothing but skywards. Get

1:56

it? Skywards? Oh boy.

2:00

for JP Mr. PC Engine

2:02

Wentz. How you doing JP? Okay, so the

2:04

Skywords wasn't my nickname. No. Okay.

2:07

So you just

2:08

went with PC Engine? Yeah. I mean, I can't really

2:10

complain. So I didn't know you were coming

2:12

today until maybe 20 minutes before we started? Like,

2:15

actually about five minutes before you showed up. We only tell Gabe

2:17

what he needs to know. It's very much a need to know. And apparently

2:19

I don't need to know who showed up for the podcast.

2:22

Okay. I can't really complain. He didn't know Mark was going to be here. He's

2:24

welcome. He's welcome to have you here. Thank you. And

2:26

joining him, time is no object

2:28

for John Object

2:32

for John Shooting Star Riccardi.

2:35

Hi. You're never going to get good at these things, are you? I'm

2:38

so

2:38

tired, John. All

2:41

right. Hello. Yes, we're all... Hi. I'm

2:44

disappointed that you didn't say this is the podcast

2:46

for Tears and Kingdoms and Tears

2:49

of the Kingdoms. Tears of the Kingdoms. But,

2:51

you know, next time. Really? Next

2:53

time. Sequel. Sequel Game. Well,

2:56

yeah, if he says it, it's not funny. Damn. Pull

3:00

him back the curtain. Recorded. We have

3:02

it on record. You're bully. I

3:04

don't know what you're talking about. Coming

3:06

to my defense, she

3:09

has her very own automaton of time.

3:12

It's Tina, Inky Pinky Carter.

3:15

Hey. What are you even talking about?

3:17

She has an automaton, an ocarina of

3:19

time. Automaton of time. Do

3:22

you understand what he's talking about? I don't

3:24

think so. Okay. That's pretty

3:26

good. Wait, I told him that tones are... It's the thing you hate

3:28

when we call a gazoo. A

3:31

gazoo? A gazoo. Whatever.

3:35

The funny thing too is that Gabe is the one person here who

3:37

doesn't drink. Yes. We're all

3:39

like in a couple deep and Gabe's over

3:41

here sober as... But

3:43

bringing the energy and that's what matters. I guess so,

3:45

yeah. That's true. So people say driving tired

3:47

is more dangerous than driving drunk.

3:50

Sure. Just

3:52

putting that out there. Relevant to the conversation

3:54

we had offline. Tina. Hey.

3:58

You

3:58

have an automaton. That's why I'm here. I

4:01

do it's yellow. I have it on a shelf behind my work

4:03

desk. Okay, I haven't replaced the battery in years

4:06

But it worked last time we had it on the air cool Thank

4:09

you pinky, Kana Alright,

4:11

then Tina. Would you like to share

4:14

with the listeners and debut

4:16

technically? I

4:18

have a new tattoo Wow, it's

4:20

very good. Yeah, it's great podcast talk we can show everybody

4:23

over the airwaves Everybody check out

4:25

my hot hot Twitter pictures that I haven't

4:27

tweeted yet. Yeah, are you waiting for it too? So

4:29

wait, let's talk about this a little bit. So have we gotten into

4:31

tattoo stuff much on this? I sure recall

4:34

So Mark's got the full body thing, but we don't really talk

4:36

about that But you know, but so you would

4:39

tell to tell the people what you got this time if you

4:41

don't if you're not weird about it I got

4:43

I should have asked you first of your okay

4:45

Portrait

4:47

of Princess Zelda from Ocarina of Time

4:50

who does your tattoos do you mind? Um,

4:53

cuz he's pretty freaking awesome Well, we'll

4:55

talk about it We'll talk about it. And if he

4:58

tells me later, he doesn't want to be hyped we can cut this part Go

5:04

ahead His name is Hori

5:06

Benny and he's based

5:08

in Osaka and he's done all

5:10

my tattoos I've known him for

5:12

many years and he's a very dear friend his arts amazing.

5:14

It's really really incredible. Yeah. Yeah

5:17

So you go down to Osaka to get your tattoos then I

5:20

have done Occasionally will

5:22

manage to nab some of his time when

5:24

he comes up here funsies. Hmm Very

5:28

cool. Yeah But so you're in the

5:30

healing process now, so everything's itchy and hurty

5:32

and yeah I've for anyone who

5:34

has healed a tattoo before I've passed the gooey

5:38

leaky stage and I'm

5:40

now in the shiny and kind

5:42

of flaky and very itchy stage

5:44

and what things are going well What's the next stage? What stage

5:47

three? Um after this it

5:49

will stop Feeling weird, but

5:51

it will look very cloudy

5:53

While the skin is doing its thing. Okay,

5:55

and then in a few months

5:58

it will be in all of its glory months.

6:01

Yeah it can it takes a long time for your skin

6:03

to actually completely recover. Wow. But it looks

6:05

fine very soon. Yeah it looks fine

6:08

now. Good good. Yeah and

6:10

finally I think at least during my tenure

6:13

we have our very first 8-4 phone-in

6:16

17-bit

6:19

Jake live from Kyoto it's Thursday

6:21

Night Live, Casdale. Hey.

6:25

Hi welcome to the party.

6:28

Welcome to the show. Jake

6:30

also is sober like Gabe

6:32

because Jake's got to drive somewhere Jake was just telling

6:34

us a story about this

6:36

is my first sober podcast and I'm not proud of it. But

6:39

you're going off to a nice like summer

6:42

home thing for for a couple days right get

6:44

away get away so. Get away from everybody

6:46

so that everybody will shut up and let me play Zelda all weekend long.

6:49

The important things yes yes who needs

6:51

family. I

6:52

think that's just our cue let's just get

6:54

into it. Tears of the Kingdom.

6:56

John said some ground rules

6:58

gang we're not going to talk about story spoilers

7:01

or anything deeply mechanical or anything like

7:03

did you know if you do blah that this can

7:05

happen? No wait let me talk so we're

7:07

going to basically we're just going to not

7:09

spoil story stuff that's all like we're you know I think

7:12

coming into this game a few of us here at least

7:15

me included were very much like I'm going

7:17

to watch in my case I was willing to watch the

7:19

trailers and that was kind of it and I didn't want

7:21

to like

7:22

I didn't read reviews I didn't kind of want to know

7:25

stuff that I know now if you know absolutely

7:27

nothing about this game and you also

7:29

like still want to remain that way then you shouldn't listen

7:31

to this we're not going to go like spoiler heavy but we can't

7:33

talk about the game without talking about the things that are

7:36

in the game

7:36

and I think it's I think it's what it's been

7:39

a little over a week now it's it's fair or

7:41

it's been about a week I guess it is and uh wait

7:44

it's been two weeks two weeks yeah I took a week

7:46

off so it's all over to me so okay I'm gonna have

7:48

to we have to settle the who won the metacritic

7:51

uh gamble thing let's do that are we

7:53

doing that right now we can't real quick but the winner

7:55

is not here right it's right

7:57

yeah did he get it bang on the money no he

7:59

was the closest He went 95. Let

8:02

me check. I think he was 95 and like the actual

8:04

metacritic is 96. I'm pretty sure

8:06

that means nobody wins. No, I remember

8:09

I was strongly in favor of prices right

8:11

rules and everyone was like No, let's just make it you

8:13

know Whoever's whoever gets

8:16

it whoever's closest I'm pretty sure that means that

8:18

nobody wins. You can argue about this with Mark when he gets back. In

8:20

my view of it I think

8:22

the part of the prices right rules that are not

8:24

okay is like you can't be like two and

8:27

then like because no One else was close to it. You know

8:29

you win, but he was like without going

8:31

over. He was off by one He was 95 Tina.

8:34

He actually was the closest by prices.

8:35

Yeah, he really did win even according to prices, right?

8:38

I don't know why I'm arguing. Yeah, but um that

8:40

was yeah, he will bask in his glory when

8:43

he comes back But no, so we're gonna

8:45

basically, you know Yeah There's there's

8:47

things about this game that you can't avoid and

8:50

and we'll talk about those what they are right in the beginning

8:52

So, you know if you're if you just really

8:54

want to know nothing about this game tune out now

8:57

Get lost. I just

8:59

told I so hate no I mean come back and you know

9:01

in a few weeks when you played it or if you haven't played it yet

9:03

You really should play it. It's an amazing game But

9:05

the news if you want to come back that'll be on the

9:08

podcast description if you want to come back today

9:11

So everybody at this table, there's five of us here.

9:13

Well, we're not all the tech technically is on the

9:15

table He's on our TV screen. I mean you guys

9:17

are sitting right there. Yeah, so we

9:20

can see right up his nose It's really good. Um, and

9:22

so Everybody here has played the

9:24

game a fair amount I believe right so let's do

9:26

before we start just

9:28

Got check how many hours of people played JP? Where

9:30

are you? I'm up 70 70. Okay Gabe How

9:33

about you 20 or 30 feels right? Okay.

9:35

Where are you at Jake? I'm probably close to Gabe

9:38

20 or 30 hours. Yeah, probably closer to 20.

9:41

Okay, so not not super deep yet

9:43

But yeah,

9:45

I don't have like a lot to show for it yet, but

9:47

I mean I'm just having a blast sure

9:50

sure

9:50

Tina where you are? I think I'm also at about 70. Sorry.

9:53

I'm at 50 according

9:55

to my switch Okay.

9:57

Okay. Yeah, I actually I'm close

10:00

to like 80 I think or something like that. So I took

10:03

the week off actually. I took the day off and

10:05

then the following week off and

10:07

I didn't play the entire time but I did play a lot. I played

10:09

probably more than I would have had I not taken off.

10:11

But yeah and I assume nobody

10:13

here has actually finished the game. No, I thought

10:15

about it but...

10:17

Cool.

10:18

Yeah so the things that

10:20

we were talking about like not wanting... So going

10:22

into this game obviously and I was really pissed about

10:24

this and we'll talk about this in a second but like one of the things going

10:26

into this game that I you know I really wanted to know is

10:29

like does this game have like proper dungeons

10:31

right? Because the last game had

10:33

those...

10:34

What do they call them?

10:36

The divine beasts. The divine beasts. Yeah which are sort of like

10:38

they're sort of like dungeons but not exactly they're not

10:40

like the traditional dungeons in any way

10:43

and like you know you can't like climb

10:46

and there's not like a you know proper what

10:48

was it a map and a compass and stuff like that and things like

10:50

that. But so yeah that was a big thing

10:52

I didn't know about going into the game and I was pretty

10:54

happy that I managed to go unspoiled all until

10:57

like what was it two days before when

10:59

like Nintendo Europe tweeted it out

11:01

like... What? What they do? Man that

11:03

really upset me and that was a really just

11:05

boneheaded tweet

11:06

but like it was like

11:08

talking about the quotes from the Onuma

11:10

team interviews which are really great interviews by the way I did

11:13

read them afterwards but like you know in the

11:15

quote itself it's like talking about dungeons

11:17

in the game and it's like are you not aware that people

11:19

were like really hoping for this thing and maybe

11:21

wanted to find out on their own you know if they're in

11:24

there so that was that was kind of a bummer but um...

11:26

So to play devil's advocate on that I will say I

11:28

was probably well I don't know about Tina. I was

11:31

possibly the least hyped of everybody on

11:33

the podcast. Are you implying I was anything

11:35

but peak hype?

11:37

I mean when we talked it sounded like you're

11:39

like you like Breath of the Wild but you weren't

11:42

totally sure if you were sold compared to some

11:44

of the older Zelda games maybe I'm misreading but

11:46

well do you want to clarify?

11:48

I mean I wasn't like bouncing

11:51

off the walls but like I'm always

11:54

extremely excited for a new Zelda regardless

11:56

of what it is. Okay okay well with that context

11:58

I was definitely the least hyped.

11:59

returns to the kingdom until

12:02

like a couple days before the game came out and

12:04

part of that was that that tweet that dumb tweet

12:07

I would have rather found out but when I found out

12:09

that there were dungeons before the release of the game all of a sudden

12:11

I was much more excited because I was still not

12:13

sure I mean

12:15

I was still gonna play it. Yeah none of us were really sure and

12:17

I mean we had all Jake and I had talked about this like

12:19

I literally like I think like right after

12:21

we finished Breath of the Wild it was like well what do we want the

12:23

next one is like well I would I want an underworld

12:26

and I want dungeons and like and basically

12:28

got everything we asked for this was for years it's like

12:30

it was something I was very much looking forward to but they managed

12:32

to not talk about it in the pre release

12:36

stuff and so you know

12:38

to me it was like okay we made it this far we're

12:40

actually going in pretty pure not gonna know and then they tweeted

12:43

about that so I was pretty upset about that but

12:44

the big thing about it is that they were so

12:47

hush hush about so much of

12:49

it right up until the very end

12:52

it's like well why are you telling us this right now and

12:54

like what a way to tell

12:55

us to write yeah there was an interview that

12:58

interview it looked like I've been on like

13:00

Total Media blackout for months like I watched the

13:02

first trailer I

13:04

guess I watched the second trailer but I haven't

13:06

seen anything since like I've been on a hard media blackout

13:09

and they were saying that after

13:11

one of the trailers one of the more recent trailers there

13:13

was like a distinct lack of buzz yes

13:16

the Nintendo kind of freaked out and they're like okay we need to get

13:18

in there and kind of show people why this is a special game

13:20

and and that's where that a bunch of that kind of like it's sitting

13:22

down with the was it the tree offset and with it and

13:24

kind of did like a full how new it did like a third to down

13:26

anything yeah yeah yeah which I also didn't watch

13:29

because I was

13:31

just like you know no no no no no no no so

13:33

well you were fully on board regardless

13:35

right like you knew yeah first of all it was one of my

13:37

favorite games of all time and I mean you should see my

13:39

Zelda shrine here it's pretty impressive I've been a Zelda

13:42

player since the first game like it literally that's

13:44

the game that kind of made me really change my my

13:46

life and kind of move towards gaming so I mean it's

13:48

it's a huge franchise for me it's easily the biggest

13:51

and I you know I love Breath of the Wild

13:53

I had no idea what to make of this new one and it wasn't

13:55

like blown away by the visuals the first

13:58

one I was like it looks like Breath of the Wild and I love it. Admit

14:00

the first and I'd love to hear everyone's kind of first

14:02

impressions But yeah, my first hour

14:04

or two. I was kind of like, huh It's

14:07

pretty breath of the wild you like I was like this kind

14:09

of feels almost more like DLC or something Then

14:12

I like trudged all the way to

14:14

Kakariko Village trying to get new armor

14:16

and stuff and all they had was the same stealth shit

14:19

and then I trudged all the way up to Rito

14:21

Village and and they had the

14:23

same stuff as they did the first game. I was like, okay I'm

14:25

getting angry now like this is Like

14:28

what is going on? What am I not understanding?

14:31

And then it just you know, well,

14:33

that's interesting that you had

14:35

that though because like so yeah talking

14:37

about first impressions like the game starts

14:40

off in the sky on Almost

14:43

like a self-contained mini world which I thought

14:45

was really interesting and smart like a way to let you get

14:48

used to the game Mechanics and the different you

14:50

earn and then like understand the different

14:52

main features that you're gonna be carrying throughout the

14:54

game Rehash of the plateau Yeah,

14:58

yeah, I mean it was maybe a little more varied

15:01

in terms of like, I don't know

15:03

Geography and like things you can do

15:05

and stuff there but basically yeah, it's a very large

15:07

version of it though I know but like, you

15:10

know, I feel like that part actually

15:12

was really exciting to me

15:14

It was when I got to the ground for the first

15:16

time I landed in Hyrule Basically that I was kind

15:19

of a little bummed as like, oh, I already know this place

15:21

So I thought I already know this place, you know,

15:23

so I wasn't really gonna get the excitement

15:25

of exploring This is what it felt like that

15:27

was my initial feeling that has been since completely

15:30

washed away When was the last time you played breath of the

15:32

wild cuz I haven't played it since I beat it I played it a week

15:34

before this came out just to sort of okay

15:36

remember. Yeah the last couple months I got about

15:39

halfway through it I took my memory card out to

15:41

grab some of the screenshots off of it and I don't know

15:43

how I did it But I

15:44

frag my save that is so you

15:47

that is such a huge thing to do But

15:49

I was like, you know what like I'm a couple months out at this point I was

15:51

like just the new ones coming like I

15:53

wanted to kind of

15:54

get back in there and you know Feel everything and kind of like

15:57

be really be able to compare directly and

15:59

I'm glad I did

15:59

I was a little bummed that I didn't get a chance

16:02

to finish it. But now I'm having

16:04

so much fun. So I have no complaints. I turned

16:06

it on, and I actually couldn't remember. I

16:08

realized the controls are, if you just jump into that

16:10

game with everything unlocked, the controls are incredibly

16:12

complex and confusing. And so I actually was like,

16:14

you know what? I'm not even going to bother. I'll just wait for the new one.

16:17

They will teach me all the controls in the beginning of the game. So I'll

16:19

just remember it naturally. And that actually

16:21

worked.

16:22

That's interesting that you say that you

16:24

felt bummed out that you entered someplace

16:26

that was familiar, because I had the

16:29

opposite feeling where

16:30

I could not wait to go and

16:32

visit these places that I knew, because I knew

16:35

they were going to be different. And I wanted to know how they

16:37

were going to be different. I

16:39

was buzzing to go back to Hateno and see

16:41

how I painted my house. Buzzing

16:46

to go and visit all of my old friends

16:48

and go and see all these places. And they're

16:50

going to be different. I don't know how they will. But

16:53

I know that they will.

16:53

That's just because you're smart, because I wasn't doing

16:55

that far ahead. Oh, well, that

16:57

moment did hit me at some point in

17:01

the early hours where I was like, oh, there's a lot that I

17:04

can go check out and see what's going on. But initially,

17:06

I was just more like,

17:08

I guess I was hoping for something different. And

17:10

again, I'm not like, I'm kind of going back to how I felt at

17:13

the time, because right now I'm very, very happy with this

17:15

game. It's like incredibly so. But at the time,

17:17

I was like, oh, I hope that when

17:19

I get down there, just something's different. Notably,

17:22

obviously, majorly different. There is

17:24

a lot different. But it's not

17:26

immediately apparent, I think, when you way land.

17:28

Yeah, it kind of started taking a while to kind of drip into

17:30

it. One of my favorite moments

17:32

was, and this is

17:35

not going to be a spoiler for anybody who's spent more than anything

17:37

with it,

17:38

but the whole chasm thing.

17:41

So I went to Cacarico Village, and I went to go

17:43

see the ferry, and she's not there. And

17:46

there's this giant hole. And I was like, what the hell is this? And

17:49

I jumped into it and

17:52

just fell into like three hours of,

17:54

what the fuck? Nintendo took a hardcore

17:57

left turn. It turned into a Kelvin

17:59

ring. it was Elden Ring. Literally,

18:02

I felt like Caleb in

18:04

Elden Ring. This crazy new space,

18:07

like all these new paradigms, like all this stuff going on.

18:09

I had no idea what anything was. I had no idea what was

18:11

going on. It's pitch black. I had to figure out

18:13

how to get the lights going, like all

18:15

the different things that's going on. And I had no

18:17

context at all. It was like some of the best video

18:20

gaming moments of my life. I literally spent the whole night

18:22

just

18:22

exploring the dark, like what the fuck is going on? This

18:25

is so cool. I'm very curious. I bumped into

18:27

the tutorial.

18:30

I just skipped it. I just didn't do it. Somehow, I

18:32

just didn't run off and do that mission. Then later, I'm like, oh,

18:34

they really do hold your hand and kind of walk you through everything. But

18:37

I so enjoyed being shoved

18:39

into it and having no idea what was going on. It

18:41

was awesome.

18:42

I'm very curious to know, why

18:44

did you go to Kakariko Village so

18:47

soon? I wanted cool stuff. I wanted

18:49

cool clothes. I was tired of the same stuff and I figured

18:51

maybe they have a shop there. Maybe they got cool stuff.

18:53

I have no idea what's

18:54

going on. That's so interesting.

18:57

I just went to Kakariko yesterday and

19:00

I've got 70 hours in the game.

19:02

I did a whole bunch of other stuff before I

19:04

went there. I think it was one of my favorite places

19:07

in the game in the first game. Also, is

19:10

it Hesti?

19:12

The big porcupine tree dude? Hestu, whatever.

19:16

That guy, he was on the way to Kakariko Village in the first

19:18

game and I was looking for him because I wanted

19:20

more. Interesting. Interesting. Talking

19:23

about the chasms and the depths is what

19:25

they call it. That is another area

19:27

that I was referring to earlier on where it's like

19:29

you can't talk about the game without talking about this.

19:31

But I don't think I knew anything about

19:34

this before playing the game. I did

19:36

watch all the official trailers and I knew

19:40

that some of the stuff in the trailers looked

19:42

very undergroundy. That could have been a cave or

19:44

whatever. I don't know. My

19:46

first trip down there, I think it did do

19:48

the way they wanted me to. But hilariously,

19:50

they were like one of the first missions when you go down there,

19:53

they're

19:54

like, I forget what's going on. Somebody's doing

19:56

something down there and you need to go meet him. Oh, you go down

19:58

and like, oh, he ran off. Follow his follow. Oh yeah,

20:00

campfires. Oh, the campfires, yeah. I ran

20:02

right past him. He was like right there on

20:04

the side. No, but this was the greatest

20:06

thing. So I was like, oh, this is

20:09

taking a while. I realized much later that I just literally

20:11

walk right past him. But I went right past him and I went

20:13

for like three hours. And

20:15

in the same way, that

20:17

was like a defining moment

20:19

of memory that will last with me for this

20:21

game. I remember no one was home because I took the

20:23

day I took off work that week. So I was at home by myself, basically

20:26

in the dark, playing this game. And I remember I

20:28

stopped for a second. When you have that kind

20:30

of almost out of body experience when you're in the game

20:32

and I look and I was like, I was so serious.

20:35

I was sitting there gripping my controller

20:37

in the dark like, oh my god. Because

20:40

exploring down there for the first time, I

20:42

think the experience in the first few

20:44

hours is very different from the experience after 10 hours, after 20

20:46

hours. But those first few hours were,

20:48

yeah,

20:49

it was like

20:50

I'm in total darkness. It's

20:52

scary. I have no idea what to expect down

20:55

here. It was like pure exploration and it

20:57

felt like adult, I've called it this

20:59

over the years, but like adult

21:01

Zelda. And what I mean by that is just like Zelda with

21:03

no holds barred, very much like you

21:06

are in the shit now and you have to survive.

21:08

And after a while, I think it does,

21:11

I think it starts to feel a little bit samey after you're

21:13

down there for a really long time and you start exploring

21:16

and seeing around and what's down there. But

21:18

I think those early moments were like magical.

21:21

That is something that I've always

21:23

appreciated about Zelda games is when they deliver

21:25

those moments that you'll remember forever,

21:28

like the first time you heard the rain in Link to the Past

21:30

or the first time you got to one of the

21:32

adult temples in Ocarina of Time. It

21:35

was one of those moments. It was really rad.

21:37

And then I found the guy much later. I'm

21:40

like, wait, this can't be. They said

21:42

he's right over there and I went all the way back

21:44

and my wife's like, he's right there. And

21:47

I'm like, oh shit. Same thing. When you get down

21:49

there and you start talking to those main minds

21:51

and there's

21:51

people that are offering you things that you're

21:54

not ready for this and they kind of keep giving you a hint of what you

21:56

need to be looking for.

21:57

And I don't want to give any spoilers, but like.

21:59

the name is pretty obvious that it's centrally

22:02

located somewhere. And

22:03

I spent hours looking for it. And I did the same

22:05

thing. Later on, when I finally found

22:08

it, I had just filtered

22:10

right past it. And it was just dark right there. And I

22:12

had explored 70% of this whole space looking

22:15

for this place. And

22:17

I finally found it. And I got the thing. And I'm very happy now.

22:19

And I'm having more fun than ever. But the

22:21

point is, yeah, it's a big game. And

22:23

there's a lot of stuff that you can miss. And if you

22:25

do, I was thinking how

22:27

interesting it would be to do a heat map

22:30

of every single person's playthrough. Yeah,

22:32

exactly. I'm experienced, right? Like

22:34

everyone's having very different encounters

22:36

at different things, at different spots. And like, what that heat map

22:38

looks like is everybody starts the same. And it

22:40

just kind of

22:41

I feel like I'm a pretty, like,

22:44

textbook player when it comes to these

22:46

things. Like, with tunic, I really

22:48

felt like I just followed my nose and I found my

22:50

way to where I needed to go. And

22:53

I feel like I'm just kind of following my nose

22:55

here. And I'm sort of doing it the way that

22:57

I'm supposed to. Because

22:58

I feel like I'm finding things

23:00

in a logical way. You

23:02

know, I obtain something and

23:05

I think, ah, yes, it would make sense for

23:07

them to give me this early on because it is beneficial

23:09

to, you

23:10

know, exploration now. They're

23:12

also very, very, very, very good

23:14

at designing these things in logical

23:17

patterns that make sense. And like, this

23:19

wave of stuff comes before this next wave of stuff.

23:21

And like, you can, you know, the systems

23:24

of the others are just insane.

23:24

Yeah, I feel like I'm just willy

23:26

nilly going and doing what I want to do. But then

23:29

I'll text my sister and say, I found

23:31

a really cool new hat. And she's like, is

23:33

it maybe a hat that's kind of like this? And it's like,

23:35

bitch, we found the same.

23:37

Yeah, I

23:39

think that's one of the genius things about

23:41

this game, though, is that

23:44

we all can play it in completely different ways. But

23:46

the game and I want to get into this a little bit more in more

23:48

detail later about how the game doesn't break. But like, the

23:50

game doesn't break in the terms of terms

23:52

of like, story progression, or not

23:54

even story, just just progression period, like, yeah,

23:57

you can because we all sounds like we all did kind

23:59

of different things when we got

23:59

out there. J.P., you look like you were really eager to jump

24:02

in there. What were you gonna... I played 30 hours

24:05

of the game before I went to the depths for the

24:07

first time. And

24:08

no kidding, my mind was blown because

24:10

the world map, you know, you press the D-pad

24:12

to switch between the sky and

24:14

the surface. And I was like, there's

24:17

kind of some space there, but I guess it's just the sky and

24:19

the surface

24:20

for a while because I had never gone down there because I thought

24:23

maybe it was gonna be like more caves or something. And

24:25

I went down and all of a sudden, third map, 30

24:28

hours into the game. Did you not... So is

24:30

it

24:31

possible that nobody talked... I don't remember how

24:33

I first discovered it, but it was very early on. But is

24:35

it possible that you just didn't do the story bits

24:37

that would sort of lead you down there in the first place? So

24:39

I got to the quest that would have taken me down and

24:42

I just didn't want to go down. So I just started doing other things

24:44

and I just never went down. I just kept finding

24:47

more things to do. I never had a reason to go look

24:49

for something else because I never had a lack

24:51

of fun things to try out. And

24:53

then finally I was like, you know, I should probably

24:56

go check out that quest 30 hours into the game.

25:00

Yeah, that's amazing. Right? Like I do the same

25:02

thing. I'm like, I want to do some story stuff. And I kind

25:04

of, I got almost up to the first dungeon pretty

25:06

early on. And I was like, you know, I kept getting

25:08

one shot at and getting killed right away. I had like, you

25:11

know, almost no hearts. I was like, it's fine. I just

25:13

pause on this and go do some other stuff. And I was like, I'm just gonna

25:15

do a walkabout and just like walk around and see the world

25:17

and get stronger and get cool stuff. And I'll come back and

25:19

do it later. And you know, I got a bunch of, I got a half

25:21

a dozen things cooking now. And I just, you know, whatever

25:24

the mood strikes you. That's why I love this game so much. It's

25:26

like, I want something intense. I want to move the story

25:28

along or I just want to explore.

25:31

I'm just like, now I go to the chasms and I'm just making

25:33

weird gadgets and like cruising around in my weird

25:35

vehicles, just like

25:36

having so much fun. Because it's just like pure

25:38

play. You know, you're just like, there's no structure. You

25:41

can completely fart around as much as you want and you'll

25:43

never run out of stuff too. It's so good.

25:45

Yeah, there is something actually that I guess

25:47

I, this could be a spoiler to some people.

25:50

It certainly took me a while to find it. So I won't say

25:52

what it is, but I will describe it so that people know it. But

25:54

basically, you know, you've got your wheel of things. In

25:56

the beginning of the game, they give you like the ascension and

25:58

they give you, um,

25:59

What is it? The fusion and

26:02

then the rewind function. At

26:04

some point there's like one left that's empty. And

26:07

it's easy to miss. I

26:09

don't remember if I... You kind of have to earn

26:11

it. They don't give it to you right away. Right. I

26:14

think you technically have to follow some quest paths

26:16

that they kind of want you to early on or you're going to miss

26:18

it. And so yeah, if you do go off exploring other

26:20

things and stuff, you miss this thing. And so

26:23

we have our own group chat too, or the bunch of us

26:25

where we're playing the game. And we're kind of trying

26:27

not to spoil, but we give hints and stuff. And

26:29

somebody did ask if anybody went and did

26:32

such and such to get that. And it turned

26:34

out for me, I was in the middle of that quest when

26:36

somebody mentioned it. So I was like, okay, I'm going to finish it. And

26:39

that also makes... I

26:42

feel like opens up the game a whole bunch because...

26:45

I can't really talk about this without talking about it.

26:47

It sounds like everybody here knows what I'm talking about. I've heard

26:49

other podcasts and stuff talking about it. I'm talking about auto

26:51

build. And auto build is something that I didn't have

26:54

for probably 15 or 20 hours, if not more.

26:56

I was talking about it, so I had to be fine. And it didn't

26:58

change the game when I got it. I can't wait to

27:00

play with it now. I got it yesterday. Oh,

27:02

congratulations. Yeah,

27:05

it's basically... It really

27:07

does change things because

27:09

no matter what level of

27:11

experimental you are with

27:13

trying to build things and mess around, and that

27:15

is a really, really fun part of the game. I

27:17

think it is kind of daunting to just

27:20

build a machine that works and is

27:22

going to fly you across a chasm or something,

27:25

or a valley or whatever. And so having

27:27

that actually changed

27:29

the game a lot. I think it's been really, really

27:31

fun just messing around with... And as you

27:33

get in the game, you get a little more brave and a little more adventurous

27:36

and you're like, okay, I'm going to try doing this and doing that. I

27:39

think the way they teach you how to

27:42

use those

27:43

vehicles or machines or whatever you want to call

27:45

them is very light to the touch. They

27:48

don't throw it in your face. They kind of force you to...

27:52

You can make as much of it

27:53

or not as you want to. Yeah, I really

27:55

don't engage with the building that much.

27:58

Oh, man. But in the beginning...

27:59

beginning I was sort of

28:02

scared I guess to do too much with it but now

28:04

it's like there's so much that you

28:06

can do and like if you try it it's probably

28:08

gonna work and then like that's just

28:10

one of the genius things about this game. I also

28:13

don't lean into it too much

28:15

like when there are... weren't you like worried about it

28:17

before it came out you were like I don't want to do or some

28:20

was that you like talking about no I was nervous about

28:22

that.

28:23

I wasn't like super super excited

28:25

about it. You know I wasn't feeling negative

28:28

about it or anything but um

28:31

you know when you watch other people play Breath of the Wild

28:33

people do some really crazy experimental

28:35

stuff right yeah and that was an

28:37

element of that game that I just never leaned into

28:40

I'm very

28:42

you know boring by the manual

28:44

I guess. I play the game the way that you're supposed

28:46

to and the entire thing

28:49

of the I forget what it's called The

28:57

King Hand, Ultra Hand. The whole thing

29:00

with that is

29:01

using that creativity and you know try

29:04

to mess this up and what can you get away

29:06

with and that's just not really something that I generally

29:09

do as a player of games. So

29:11

that's been a challenge for me and

29:14

I'm kind of approaching it really straight

29:16

lace like when I see a pile

29:18

of parts I'm like ah this

29:20

is probably a hint that I am supposed to create this

29:22

type of object and then I create that

29:24

object and see how I can use it in the

29:27

surrounding area.

29:27

Yeah but I mean that is kind of the

29:30

idea. I am 99% of the time taking my horse everywhere.

29:33

Yep. I am not driving around

29:35

on cars I am not flying around I want

29:37

to take a pono with me everywhere

29:39

I go. That is interesting. I did not. I

29:42

got to a river yesterday where like

29:44

there was a bridge that was out and I was like well

29:46

shit what am I supposed to do now. So I built

29:48

a fucking whole thing like a big

29:51

raft with like fans and stuff on it

29:53

to propel my horse across the

29:55

river and then she was too smart

29:57

she didn't get on the

29:59

raft. I was like, Oh, okay, horses can't get on

30:02

stuff. That's probably for the best. That's

30:04

interesting. Just an aside about the horse, but I had this

30:06

conversation with somebody recently, but like basically

30:08

after the first, I did use the horse in

30:10

the very beginning to get from A to B because

30:13

you needed to, and I wanted to get there faster. But

30:15

as soon as you start messing with

30:17

those

30:17

things you can create, the horse

30:20

is like completely obsolete. I feel like I

30:25

don't like the horse anyway. I think it's clunky and this,

30:27

I love physics in games and like making

30:29

these vehicles like physically and then like figuring

30:32

out, you know, how to

30:32

make them better and faster and more efficient. Dude,

30:35

I just zip everywhere now. And now that I've got the auto build

30:37

and I'm like building all these crazy things and like, how

30:40

do I make this lighter and faster? I'm

30:42

not a gear head at all. I don't normally go for crafting

30:44

in games. I'm fucking with everything

30:46

now.

30:46

Yeah. And it really, it really leans

30:48

into that, that old Zelda thing of making a crafting

30:51

game really, really lights into

30:53

that old, that old Zelda thing of making

30:55

you feel smart though for like doing stuff.

30:58

Isn't that the beauty of this game though? That

31:01

like we can be getting around,

31:03

Tina and I can be getting around mainly on horseback

31:06

and everybody else can be, well actually I don't remember what you said

31:08

you were doing, but I mean we can have completely

31:10

different opinions about this game and still all be enjoying it. Well

31:13

yeah, first of all, my, I mean, I took

31:15

a decided approach to how I was going

31:16

to play this game, which was I was going to, I

31:18

mean, to the degree that I could, I didn't know necessarily

31:21

what the, what the

31:22

format of the game was, but as soon as I realized

31:24

that it's like the first game where you find towers

31:26

to open up map sections, I opened

31:28

up the whole map, like very quickly because the one

31:31

thing I learned in Breath of the Wild is like

31:33

warping around is a hell of a lot easier than taking a horse

31:35

all over the place. And so I basically opened up the entire map

31:37

as quickly as I could. You know, not

31:40

rushing, but basically like one, when I'm, once

31:42

I'm done with this tower, I'm going to the next. And once I'm done with that

31:44

tower and half of that is trying to find out where the

31:46

towers even are. Right. But then I

31:48

basically, once I got that all open, then yeah. And then

31:50

it's just like, okay, and whatever shrines you see

31:52

while you're doing that, you know, go, go unlock

31:55

them. And then like basically use

31:57

that to get around because that is just so much faster

31:59

than.

31:59

traveling by foot. So

32:02

I had a funny thing when I started. I

32:04

didn't check the stable for like 15 or 20 hours

32:08

because the entire time I was like, I'll go catch a horse

32:10

when it's time to use a horse.

32:12

And I spent the first day or

32:15

two just exploring the ruins of Hyrule

32:17

Castle. And then

32:19

I talked to the stable hand, and

32:21

he's like, oh, you already have horses. Yeah,

32:23

that was cool. Horses from the previous game

32:26

were there. I loved my data.

32:28

I was just like, man. Oh, right. I was like, my

32:31

white horse, cocaine, was waiting for me. My

32:34

giant black stallion was there. My

32:37

Zelda horse, the white horse. So my first horse, actually,

32:39

that's just why I like talking about random shit like this. But I was

32:41

in the doctor's office waiting to, I had just like a regular

32:44

checkup, and I was waiting. So I brought my switch because it was

32:46

like the day after Zelda came out. And I was like, I got to go get a horse

32:48

for whatever reason. And so I went and got a horse, just captured

32:50

it normally. And my doctor's name

32:52

is Iwata. So I just named the

32:53

horse Iwata-Shatro, which is like President Iwata.

32:57

And I was like, oh, awesome. And then I'm going to go to the stable and register,

33:00

or whatever you do. But that's when I found

33:02

out that, oh, they have my old horses. And so I got

33:04

my old horse. And it's funny, because that horse, cocaine,

33:07

because it's white. Don't ask me. It

33:09

was seven years ago. And I

33:11

lost that horse in Breath of the Wild. I

33:13

don't know what I did, but I couldn't fuck. You

33:16

can lose them. I think they died. Maybe it died,

33:18

or maybe it, you know, we had some weird

33:21

glitchy stuff I remember. When we were first playing Breath

33:23

of the Wild, I have some videos of the horse stuck

33:25

in the wall underneath a cliff and stuff. And basically,

33:27

I gave up on that horse. And I just thought it was gone

33:29

forever.

33:30

So it was kind of cool to be able to get it

33:32

back after like six years the same.

33:33

My old friend. Mine Blanche. Blanche.

33:37

Blanche. What is that named after? My

33:40

grandmother. Yeah, it sounds like it's something your

33:42

grandma. The word white in French. Oh,

33:44

that's it? Yeah. I thought there was something more deep

33:46

than that. Wow. Yeah, just as deep

33:48

as cocaine. That is deep. It's very

33:50

deep. I literally named my white horse Shiroyuma.

33:53

I thought you were going to say the Golden Girls or something. Mine

33:56

is named after Mark's favorite super graphics game.

33:59

Vest deal All

34:03

dines nothing. Oh, yes anything to anybody except

34:05

for mark nice here. Of course you would name your horse that I

34:07

just named them one two three now, so I know the order I

34:10

caught them in oh

34:10

man So that's so

34:13

clinical it is cuz they are mechanical

34:15

I okay one two three gave

34:18

my Terrible Your

34:22

name I

34:22

literally give them every single time I'm

34:24

setting out on a new journey I give them an apple

34:26

and then I hop on and when you see that trot

34:29

yes You hold an apple and they will eat it out of

34:30

your oh, I didn't know that that's cool Yeah, so I have to give

34:32

them a golden apple Try not to

34:35

go in and I know

34:36

I got a bunch and then when you start trotting

34:38

Once you pick up the pace to like the semi trot

34:40

and you pat them you'll get the little extra bonded

34:43

pink glows I do that every single time look

34:45

three, and I

34:46

have a very great relationship. I don't believe you

34:48

in the Your Android divorce

34:50

three three point I

34:52

Do want to say can

34:55

we talk about items

34:56

I want to talk about items okay? Yeah, well what do you mean

34:58

by items you mean like like?

35:00

The stuff in the game that I never

35:02

gave a shit about in the first game suddenly

35:04

has this back channel now of value

35:08

That is incredible everything matters now

35:10

like nothing mattered before like I'd see a bunch of dudes in the background

35:12

You know in the first game. You're like. It's not like you're getting experience

35:14

or anything. There's really no reason to engage

35:16

Most of the time if you've got your weapons and stuff like that now

35:19

every horn comes in handy like because

35:22

you can attach them to you yes for sure

35:24

like

35:25

Everything can be attached to an arrow everything

35:27

has value now like even just like the Bokoblin

35:30

horns that are like not that great They really like

35:32

almost double or triple your damage values

35:34

on your arrows. Yep. I'm using

35:36

all that stuff all the time now I'm using the

35:38

the muddle stuff. I'm using this sparkle

35:41

stuff. I'm using the the confusion stuff like bombs

35:44

Everything like I'm constantly doing stuff and

35:46

like I'm realizing like I realized that

35:49

If you have an electric weapon and you hit the what

35:51

are the blue jellies called? She chooses

35:53

to choose if you hit a choo-choo with an electric weapon

35:56

when they die they leave electric Yeah, Julie

35:58

and that stuff is great for stunning guys

35:59

and like opening salvos on attacks and stuff,

36:02

like everything has way more

36:04

value now. And like, you know, you can cook it and you can

36:06

get one thing or you can use it as a weapon. There's

36:08

another thing you can throw it and you'll usually get

36:10

another sort of response to it. So like, I

36:13

just had this like, see like this

36:15

giant suitcase full of garbage in the first game. But

36:18

now I'm like, I'm going through this stuff and

36:20

like everything just has an inherent value.

36:22

And there's like this compulsion loop to like get

36:24

more stuff because you can use this stuff. And it's like,

36:27

it's the perfect kind of game for me in that

36:29

it's super fun to get the resources.

36:31

They're super valuable and that it's super fun to

36:33

use them. And then you run out and you need to go get

36:35

more. And it's like, they're so good. Yeah. Isn't it brilliant

36:37

how they basically addressed whether

36:40

intentionally or not, like the two, I

36:42

think biggest complaints about the first game and

36:45

one being, yeah, you've got all this stuff but there's not really

36:47

a point to fighting dudes. Was a common, I didn't

36:49

really feel that way but a lot of people did say that. And

36:51

another big argument that I also was fine

36:53

with but a lot of people were not was the breakable

36:56

weapons and like kind of addressed those both

36:58

and kind of nailed it by doing this because

37:01

there's never a reason, there's never a worthless

37:03

weapon anymore. And in fact, I'm constantly

37:06

trying to get Korokzis now to like get more weapon

37:08

slots because I've got so much shit that I want to keep and

37:10

mess around with.

37:12

And I also like beating the big

37:14

bosses and stuff like the Talos

37:16

or the, you get the like drops that are really

37:18

good on your weapons. Like they'll leave those like heart

37:21

looking things wherever it's really great.

37:23

And it's just like all of these hidden values. I

37:26

found a magic rod, I put a ruby

37:28

on it and it was like, what is this gonna

37:30

do? And it's got three fireballs, which is

37:32

awesome. And then I was doing the snow mission. I didn't

37:34

have enough clothing to stay warm. And if

37:37

you have that thing equipped, it just keeps you warm the whole time. Yeah, that's

37:39

awesome. And that was something that was in-front of

37:41

the wild too.

37:42

But you didn't have the ability

37:44

to just, you know, make an

37:46

elemental weapon whenever you wanted. I had

37:48

to mark on my map, here is where there's

37:51

going to be a fire sword drop

37:52

every blood round. Yeah, and they're gone now. There

37:54

are no fire swords. The thing about the

37:56

arrows, it took me 20

37:57

something hours before I realized.

37:59

Oh, I'm never getting electric arrows. I gotta

38:02

make them myself. It didn't even occur to me that oh, yeah

38:04

Oh, duh, of course and then since then I've

38:06

been using a whole bunch of different kinds of arrows But I was like,

38:08

you know You know be out

38:10

in the field at night and I see keys flying around and normally

38:12

I just like, you know Whatever now, dude, they're all

38:14

they are so Yes,

38:20

I love it I do I do want to take a moment to say

38:22

these controls still suck

38:24

What do you think it is more finger yoga

38:26

than it is ever been yeah I

38:29

you say suck though. I think you don't

38:31

like them. But what would you do better? I'll

38:33

tell you what I actually went to the switches system

38:36

settings and swapped X and Y

38:38

So I could have the run button next to the

38:40

jump button. You can do that

38:43

if you want to Yeah, there's also an in-game option

38:45

to switch the jump button to I think a was it

38:47

or something I didn't do it The jump

38:49

to be and then have run on

38:52

X that's off which is what I do, too

38:55

I need to have jump on on B. I

38:57

can't I can't do that. I have no problem with the way it is No,

38:59

I think it's totally fine. I don't I complex

39:03

but it's not bad

39:04

I often pull open the wrong menu like I

39:06

want to use ultra hand but then I Pull

39:08

up my throw an item by accident and

39:10

then I want to throw something but I pull

39:13

up, you know By accident

39:15

I'm ass fuck but like And

39:17

this is something that

39:19

really highlighted to me my my growth

39:22

as a video game player over the last

39:24

year This game is so

39:27

kind to you You can just pause

39:29

and heal whenever you want You can

39:31

take all the time in the world to decide which

39:33

weapon you want to switch to in the middle of a fight

39:35

with something

39:36

Right, you know weird role-playing element

39:38

to it Yeah I was thinking about that too because I'm looking through my

39:40

stuff and I mean there is too much stuff like

39:42

what you're trying to something on your arrow and you're in a fight you like

39:46

Yeah, yeah, you like it really like And

39:50

you can sort them different ways like the UI

39:52

for being as complex as it is they have looked

39:55

at it They have approached it. They have like polished

39:57

it as much as they can like you can sort multiple different

39:59

ways and I

39:59

You can, I have mine sorted on most

40:02

used, which works out really well for me. Yeah,

40:04

I do that a lot too. What really stresses

40:06

me out is every time I'm preparing to throw

40:08

something, which 99% of the time is

40:11

one of the glow scenes. Yeah,

40:13

yeah. Every time I

40:15

pull up that menu, the first item in that menu

40:17

is diamonds, which I am currently saving up for something.

40:20

And I just know that I am going to

40:22

throw a fucking diamond across

40:24

a canyon at some point, just be like, God, damn

40:27

it. I didn't think about throwing

40:29

stuff for a while. I just didn't think about

40:32

it. Because you go to throw and it immediately starts with

40:34

your weapon, and then you switch to

40:36

what you want to throw. Yeah. I was going

40:38

through arrows. That UI is a little weird, because

40:40

you have to hold. I mean, they teach you how to do it. And

40:42

I wasn't paying attention. I had to go back and look. But you have to

40:44

hold the R button and then choose the item

40:46

you want to throw, which is

40:48

not what I would think. I would think you choose the item and then

40:50

do R or something. It probably doesn't work for some reason. But

40:53

because you're about to throw your weapon, but you're actually not going

40:55

to. I'm always just like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah.

40:59

Tina, let me know when you don't want to worry about diamonds

41:02

anymore.

41:02

We've already discussed that

41:05

I am a manual follower.

41:07

I do it the way you're supposed to do it.

41:09

Yeah. So my son is a diehard

41:12

Roblox fan. It's all he plays. And I hate it, because

41:14

I hate Roblox. And I hate everything

41:16

about that game. And I feel like he's losing

41:18

his whole childhood to this. Aw. Don't

41:20

even get me started on it. The point is,

41:23

he's playing this game and he's loving it. He's 11 years

41:25

old and he is deep. And we were neck

41:27

and neck for a while. You're talking about Zelda now, though. You're

41:29

not talking about Roblox. You're talking about he's loving

41:31

Zelda. Yeah. But he's

41:34

a little turd. And

41:36

he's watching all the YouTube things. And he's cheating. Like,

41:38

dude, he has $300,000. No, $30,000. That's

41:42

it?

41:44

I have like $300. I mean, I

41:46

have 300 reviews. I'm closer to 1,000 now, because I

41:49

haven't been buying much stuff. But he literally has just got

41:51

all this stuff. He's got like six, the Hyrulean

41:53

shields. He's got six of those. He has all these great

41:55

weapons. There's like super

41:58

stamina replacing the hearts.

41:59

Like give you all the fake hearts. Yeah.

42:02

Yeah, his things have filthy with

42:04

him. I'm like, you know, you're not you're cheating

42:06

yourself, son But

42:11

at the same time like he's having so much fun every

42:13

time I come home he's so excited He wants to show me this if

42:15

I'm like spoiler you're like way ahead of me now I can he just

42:18

keeps dropping stuff and like dropping bombs

42:20

at dinner He's

42:24

so excited and he's so into it and he's like

42:26

it was the first time going deep into a big game like this by

42:29

We played a lot of Elden Ring actually together, but he would

42:31

only play it

42:32

when I was playing he would he wouldn't play it By himself.

42:34

It was too scary, but he's like be

42:36

heaping at this night. It warms this old.

42:38

He's about that age, right? I mean, it's like that's

42:40

when we were kind of getting into Zelda for the first time

42:43

around the same the same age I think YouTube

42:45

content creators stop spoiling cool stuff

42:47

in your thumbnails I didn't need to

42:49

know about those masks and those outfits.

42:52

Oh, I've seen So

42:54

like oh that would have been cool to discover

42:56

can we talk about the outfits really quick for

42:58

just like one second? Absolutely. No, no specifics,

43:00

but like holy moly link has never looked

43:03

better Fabulous,

43:06

I love his hair. Holy shit

43:09

Like I've already found what I'm certain is my favorite

43:11

top in the entire game and I'm just gonna wear it for the entire

43:13

time

43:14

How many hours did you say you were in? 70 like 70,

43:17

but it's I have very little first it's

43:20

the first piece of clothing that I found. Yeah

43:23

And I just absolutely love

43:25

it. It has like a very specific effect that

43:27

doesn't serve me 99% of the time and I do not care Because

43:32

it looks so good.

43:33

I really want to know what it is. I'll tell you off off

43:36

camera Okay,

43:38

I think that was my motivation early on it's like I'm I

43:40

want cool new stuff And then like the

43:42

first couple things I found were things that I rocked for half

43:44

well this game And I still have found

43:47

very little really kind of worthwhile stuff

43:50

But not much if you have Zelda related

43:52

amiibo you can unlock

43:55

a paraglider materials

43:57

which you can then

43:59

and

44:01

you basically take the cloth

44:03

or whatever to, what is it, Hateno Village, and

44:05

then you can actually get, so I've got like a

44:07

Twilight Princess one now, I have a lot of Zelda amiibo,

44:10

and we actually, we had a meetup last

44:12

week, a bunch of 40

44:13

year old dudes, at

44:15

a bar with our amiibo, everybody

44:18

go through, I brought 14 of

44:20

them, and another guy brought 14 of them, everybody

44:23

went nuts with the amiibo to get stuff, but it's actually,

44:25

you can do it once a day, and

44:27

I still am doing it, I know it will slow down, you

44:31

wanted, but I think it's like a 20% drop rate or

44:33

something on the rare items and stuff, and so if you keep

44:35

doing it every day, you can eventually get some of the cool stuff.

44:37

Only Zelda amiibos? No, you can do

44:40

any amiibo, but the only ones that are gonna give you the rare Zelda

44:42

items are Zelda related

44:43

amiibos, so like. Boo. Do you

44:45

ever get, last night, we have all, because

44:47

I bought a ton of these things for the kids for Christmas

44:49

a couple years ago,

44:51

and so we have a bunch of them, and I leave them on my desk, because

44:53

I love them, and so, I

44:55

mean, he's using them every day, my son has got them, they're

44:58

all laid out, so every day he can hit all that stuff.

45:00

So last night, I was playing, and I was like, oh, you

45:02

know, what the heck? Because I got a cool,

45:04

one of the divine beasts masks from

45:07

one of them. Nice, from one of the amiibo, yeah, yeah. Yeah,

45:09

from the last game, and, sorry.

45:12

That's not me, that's me, man. That's, yeah.

45:14

That's gonna be an ongoing thing until I. Anyways,

45:16

I went, I was like, okay, I'm

45:19

gonna go to bed, but I'm gonna, you know, because you only do it once a day,

45:21

and I was gonna hit it,

45:23

and I did it, and I just

45:25

get these false positives a lot of times, where it just won't, it

45:27

won't register. I set the thing down, the ring

45:29

is valid, it's making the sound, and I hold

45:31

it over the right control stick, and it just doesn't do anything.

45:34

And I tried a bunch of them, it just doesn't do anything, and I'm

45:36

like,

45:37

they can't be tracking per

45:39

amiibo, like once a day, right? They

45:41

are, they are, track, pack, track. What do you mean, per amiibo?

45:44

Like if my son played on his switch,

45:45

and he acted like that. Oh, no, no, you can use, no, we,

45:47

yeah, we tried

45:49

that ourselves, like you can use the same one amiibo

45:52

on multiple switches, you just can't use the same one

45:54

amiibo on the same switch every day.

45:56

Yeah, I don't know. I haven't

45:59

talked to anybody else.

45:59

that has this and every once in a while it just doesn't work at all

46:02

for me. I'm like, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have no idea how I'm

46:04

screwing this up. You have that same

46:06

touch as Hiroko hasn't been

46:08

on the podcast in many years, but Hiroko has the same touch.

46:11

Anything that's electronic that she comes in contact

46:13

with is probably going to stop working or not work

46:15

properly or whatever. Jason got the same thing. There's

46:18

a shrine here that I keep meaning to go to in Kyoto.

46:20

Everyone tells me, you got to go. There's the one shrine

46:23

that'll like un-fuck your curse of electric

46:25

charge. It's a magnetic field

46:28

disturbance that I create basically.

46:29

Jake's talking about real life shrines, by the way,

46:32

not shrines. If you're going

46:34

to break it, it's my concern. How do I... So yeah,

46:36

shrines were... I didn't know

46:38

they were going to be shrines again and I wasn't sure if

46:40

they were going to do it again. And when

46:42

I first saw that they were in there again, I was

46:45

like, oh, I don't know how I feel about this. Not

46:47

that I didn't like shrines before.

46:50

I think shrines just made me want dungeons more.

46:52

And so

46:53

there's that sort of, I

46:54

don't know, yin and yang thing going on

46:56

there. But in the new one,

46:58

immediately though, I realized, oh, actually though, the shrines

47:00

are teaching me a lot of really valuable skills. And so

47:02

by going in them, you're

47:05

learning how to manipulate a lot of

47:07

the objects in the game and do

47:09

some stuff that you wouldn't otherwise know how to do.

47:11

I think I'm at like 70

47:13

now or something that I've done a lot of them. I have about

47:16

the same. Really? Yeah. Anytime

47:18

I see one, I'll go... I started

47:20

doing them in sets. So I'll see some

47:23

and I'll go touch them to make them show

47:25

up on your map, but then I'll leave and then I'll just do

47:27

four or five at a time when I'm in the mood to do shrines.

47:29

But yeah, it's

47:32

fun to seek them out. And I

47:35

actually, yeah, I don't know how many there are and I don't want to know.

47:37

Maybe it's the same as last time. I don't know. But last time was 120

47:39

and then there was some in the DLC

47:42

too.

47:43

But I got them all last time. I

47:45

did eventually go to all of them. It's

47:48

funny. I suffer from

47:50

this because the game is so open

47:53

and so, you know, a freedom of expression, completely

47:55

do whatever you want. Choose your own pace constantly.

47:58

I always feel claustrophobic when I go into those things.

47:59

And there's like a solution and you got to do it. And I think

48:02

now it's more flexible than ever. Like

48:04

obviously there's lots of stuff you can do. Yeah, it

48:06

is. But I'm always like, it's like, you

48:08

know, it's like this tight puzzle. That's got to be solved right now. It's right

48:10

in front of you instead of being like, Oh, I'll just kind

48:12

of, you know, arm wave and float

48:15

around. Like, I think it's a nice, it's a really smart way

48:17

to mix up the gameplay though, because

48:19

like you need those to look, you'd need

48:21

hearts and you need to especially stamina in order to

48:24

get farther in what you like doing the exploration.

48:26

And so you kind of need to do this. It's like a really smart way

48:29

of doing it. I feel like it is great. It's just, I

48:31

personally just like, I, it's such a change

48:33

of pace and it becomes more like, okay, you

48:36

know, time to get serious. And I'm like, I haven't. So yeah,

48:38

I don't really want to do responsibility

48:40

right now. But in the first game, you had

48:42

to beat every shrine, like pretty much properly,

48:44

except for the ones that had motion control stuff where you could

48:47

sometimes you could just like fuck around like, boop, you did it like, oh

48:49

my God, but this one, I guess.

48:51

Numerous, I would say over a dozen, at least

48:53

shrines I have like basically just done

48:55

completely differently from how I think you were supposed to,

48:57

because the gameplay allows it, which I think is really

49:00

cool. Have you found, have you done any

49:02

of the shrines that required you to fetch a crystal?

49:04

Yes. Yeah. To get the shrine

49:07

to open, you mean? Oh yeah. The couple. Yeah. That

49:09

those are the ones that are making me explore

49:12

the ultra hand stuff and crafting

49:14

way more. I just did one last

49:16

night. That was amazing. Like that. I was like, I don't think

49:19

the game wants me to do this, but I'm going to try it. And sure enough,

49:21

that was like, I thought it was a way to do it. I'm not going

49:23

to say that way. The ones that leave

49:25

more creativity open to how you're going

49:27

to solve it. I don't know that I liked the best. Yeah. Some

49:29

of them are like a little bit abstract and sometimes

49:31

they're so simple. Like you overthink them,

49:33

you know, like it's like, you just do this thing and I'm

49:36

like, oh, totally. If I was doing this giant thing

49:38

in my head, I'm like, okay, dude, you're totally overthinking this right

49:40

now. Yep.

49:41

I've had it a few times in

49:44

dungeons where I am 99%

49:46

sure that I just

49:50

cheese the shit out of this room. I

49:53

don't think that this is what I was supposed to

49:55

do, but it worked.

49:56

So whatever, we're

49:58

not going to complain about it.

49:59

And that's something that I'm really interested in. Once

50:02

I'm finished playing it for myself, I'm gonna go back

50:04

and look at a bunch of streamers, like

50:06

vods of playing this

50:07

game. Yeah, see how other people did stuff, yeah. Because

50:10

there have been a couple of rooms in, and I'm not talking

50:12

about the shrines, I'm talking about the dungeons proper, where like...

50:14

Temples, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

50:16

Where I am certain that I did

50:18

not do what they wanted

50:20

me to do, because like,

50:22

you know, there's a room that's blocked,

50:24

and obviously I'm supposed to use a specific mechanic

50:26

to be able to get into that room, but I just climbed

50:29

in the window.

50:29

No, totally. I did that a couple

50:32

of times. And in fact, like one time, it

50:34

came back to bite me, because I did get

50:37

very far ahead, but then it kind of made me lose

50:39

track of where I was supposed to go, because when I went back the

50:41

normal way, I'm like, oh, this must be the final thing. And like, no,

50:43

that was the thing you should have done before, but you cheated. It's like,

50:45

not cheated, but you know what I mean anyway. But

50:48

I think that's very interesting. Let's talk about

50:50

the dungeons a little bit, or the temples, because that is like

50:52

something...

50:53

I personally

50:56

still miss

50:57

the classic Zelda style dungeon where

51:00

you get an

51:01

item and a map

51:03

and a compass and have to basically work your

51:05

way through. But I also do

51:07

like these much better than before. And I think

51:10

at first I was kind of bummed that they're not more

51:12

designed

51:13

like those classic

51:15

ones, where they're really, really specifically designed in a

51:17

very deep and intricate way, because I think the

51:19

style of gameplay just would make

51:21

that super hard. It kind of almost have to be

51:23

designed in a way that you can cheese them in

51:25

ways to get through

51:28

them. But that said,

51:30

they're much, much better than the ones in the first

51:32

game.

51:32

Has everyone here done

51:34

at least one of the major

51:36

objective dungeons?

51:39

I've done a few. I'm not going

51:41

to get into specifics about any

51:44

of one in particular, but I am going to get a little bit into

51:46

structure. Is that okay?

51:47

It's fine. Yeah, I think

51:49

that's fine. Yeah, yeah. I've done two of them.

51:52

And when I did my first one, I found

51:55

kind of a double-edged sword thing happened

51:57

because I was very excited that progress

51:59

was going to happen. of music was back. As

52:02

you clear objectives,

52:04

the music changes and it really

52:06

affects the- The music starts out simple and gets more

52:08

complex as you go through. It really

52:11

affects your- I've turned three and didn't notice. Pay

52:13

attention to the next one. As

52:15

you accomplish things, the music does change and

52:18

it becomes more intense. And that was something they did with the divine

52:20

beasts as well in Alaska.

52:22

So I was really

52:24

excited that that was back because I loved that.

52:26

But then I thought, oh no, does that

52:28

mean that all of the dungeons are going to

52:30

be, you know, find X number

52:33

of thing? And I was like, ah fuck, these are going

52:35

to suck. Because what- something

52:37

I really love about,

52:39

you know, like the classic dungeons is a

52:42

gimmick. Like give me a fucking

52:44

gimmick. Give me water levels that I have to

52:46

change a million times to figure it out. You

52:48

know, give me a

52:51

temple that flips upside down and I have to do the entire

52:53

second half on the ceiling. Yeah, preach. And

52:56

I was at one big

52:57

central theme.

52:58

So I was worried I wasn't going to get that. But having

53:01

done a second one now, it

53:03

had a hell of a gimmick. And

53:05

it was completely different from

53:07

the first one. And I was relieved

53:10

because I was like, if this is how they've approached

53:12

it, this is- I'm totally okay with having it be find

53:15

X number of things.

53:16

Yeah, I would say that- sorry,

53:18

I also know the order that you went because we talked about

53:20

it earlier. But I would say like in your first dungeon too,

53:23

the gimmick was almost the journey

53:25

to the dungeon, you know what I mean? Which was

53:27

amazing. And I think that they do a really great job

53:29

of that as well, of like kind of- it's

53:31

not just the dungeon itself, but it's everything. It's

53:34

a little story that goes around it and the getting there and

53:36

the getting through it and everything.

53:37

Yeah, the approach to the dungeon is very distinctive

53:40

on top of the dungeon itself. Yeah,

53:44

that was my sort of reconciliation or

53:46

I don't know what the right word is because

53:48

I never do. But so I did the first temple

53:51

and

53:51

I was like, great, more divine beasts.

53:54

All right, this is disappointing. And then it was after

53:56

the second one where I was like, you know, if I

53:58

just consider the entire path

54:01

to the actual temple as part

54:04

of the temple. This

54:06

is actually a pretty complete experience

54:08

and was not

54:10

satisfying. So that changed my

54:12

perspective and I was able to go into the third one with

54:14

that and had

54:17

a better time than I would have otherwise.

54:19

And Breath of the Wild completely. Jake, have you done any of them yet?

54:22

Just the first one. Okay,

54:23

yeah, yeah. I mean, which one is the first one? It

54:25

was epic. I mean, it's a lot better for everybody. Well,

54:28

that's the other thing is the boss battles

54:31

are... Better? It was pretty good. 10 out

54:33

of 10. They're amazing. They feel great. They're

54:35

so much better than the first game. I'm gonna have to take a photo of

54:38

one of them. Billion times better. And

54:40

that's, I almost wish there was like 20 more

54:43

because they're so, so good. Yeah.

54:45

I mean, obviously

54:48

this has been a, you know, out of the

54:50

gates crazy hit for them. 10 million?

54:53

I'm hoping they're, I mean, obviously they're thinking about DLC. Three

54:57

days. Yeah, I'm curious as to what and

54:59

how much stuff they're gonna keep bringing to us. I'm

55:01

also, I mean,

55:02

this is a totally different discussion that we probably shouldn't get into just yet,

55:04

but like, this has got to be their swan song, but big

55:06

title, right? For the switch. Like, there's not

55:09

gonna be a whole lot more stuff. I would think so, yeah. Hey, Pikmin 4

55:11

is definitely not gonna

55:14

match, but we are looking forward to that

55:16

in these walls. Yeah, and he's

55:18

talking in the Royal Wii, by the way. But

55:21

I was actually looking forward to Pikmin 4 more

55:23

than Tears of the Kingdom. Until I started

55:26

playing Tears of the Kingdom. Very

55:27

interested to revisit this topic once you've played

55:29

Pikmin 4. Yeah. Well, yeah, well, we'll

55:31

see.

55:32

Oh, I mean, this game is serious. It's just completely

55:34

blown my mind. I did not expect to enjoy it nearly

55:37

as much as I was because I didn't love Breath

55:39

of the Wild too much. Yeah. Yeah,

55:41

I think it's, I think, I mean, I'm

55:44

really, really, really in love with it at this point.

55:46

And I'm just so impressed

55:49

at how everything works.

55:51

Yeah. When

55:53

you say it out loud, that sounds kind of simple, but it's

55:55

really, this game is a miracle. Well,

55:58

I mean, think about the, you know.

55:59

They took what six or seven years to build the first

56:02

game

56:03

This game is basically the same engine same,

56:05

you know, a lot of the same music same sound effects same

56:07

animations You know same everything and

56:10

they basically took that they had six more years

56:13

To go to chapter two with that thing that

56:15

already exists and as a game developer Like most

56:17

of the work is just getting the thing up on its feet,

56:19

you know getting it stood up That's why sequels are usually better.

56:21

This is a direct sequel,

56:23

but they literally did make everything better like

56:26

everything is better Yeah, I can't think of anything

56:28

that's not better in this I do think

56:30

that the art direction I

56:32

think the whole the whole

56:34

The Jomon kind of inspired like the blues

56:37

and the dead Zombie monks and

56:39

like the blues and like that whole like

56:41

the first slate. I think a sheikah slate I think that

56:43

visual language to me was way more original

56:46

and interesting

56:47

the new stuff is just kind of like Mayan It's kind

56:49

of green and sure the goat boy

56:55

Part of it is though they had to be different right they had to do so

56:57

they couldn't do the same thing But I've just

56:59

like bits of the old stuff is still in there

57:01

like when you go to the map like, you know A lot of the plate

57:03

still has some of the old language in it and then there's some

57:06

of the new stuff Yeah,

57:07

and I don't think the music quite Like

57:11

it's good it's great But

57:13

it's not the first one I still think that the light piano

57:16

stuff when you're out in the wind and stuff like that Like it's a

57:18

little different this time and I just personally don't think

57:20

you're wrong So I haven't played

57:22

breath of the wild since like for like five

57:24

years Did the Hyrule theme always weave

57:27

into the horse riding theme? Yes. Okay,

57:29

cuz the

57:30

horse riding music is the same Yes,

57:32

and it's different day or night damn

57:36

So I had a moment that when you get home I

57:38

had a moment when so there's a quest here

57:40

where you get in you you get a band

57:42

back together literally and I and

57:44

I found out through that that the stable

57:47

theme is in the same key and

57:49

and time signature

57:51

as epynos theme and If you

57:54

had played breath of the wild at all,

57:56

yeah, I think he did with the sound off so

57:58

you would have known that if Cass

58:00

is at... Who? Oh,

58:03

Jesus. I'm not being a jerk. Who is Cass?

58:05

The big wonderful bird who plays

58:08

his accordion thing. Oh, yeah,

58:10

yeah, yeah. If he is near a stable, he

58:12

plays a Pona song. Well, maybe I heard that

58:14

and

58:14

promptly forgot. On his instrument. I

58:17

had a very meh relationship with Breath of the Wild just because

58:19

I prefer... Okay, well, you don't have to be a hater about it, Gabe.

58:21

I'm not trying to be. Geez, I'm just

58:24

okay. It's just like, I remember beating

58:26

Breath of the Wild on a plane ride because it was like, I

58:28

guess I'll beat it. And then I beat it, I'm like,

58:30

okay, I guess I'm... Oh my God. Okay,

58:33

so you need to sit down, go

58:36

on to YouTube or your music

58:38

player of choice. Uh-huh, YouTube music. And

58:40

listen to the last boss

58:43

fight music from

58:45

Breath of the Wild because it

58:48

is fucking 13 out

58:51

of 10. It is bonkers good.

58:55

The piano goes off the fucking rails.

58:57

It's incredible.

58:58

I don't remember. I don't remember.

59:00

I'm sorry. Jake, you didn't watch the pre-launch

59:03

trailer then, huh?

59:04

No. Definitely be sure you do at

59:06

some point. It is so good. And

59:09

I will say, I went back and watched it after like 40

59:11

hours of Tears of the Kingdom and it was better.

59:14

It was a lot better. Now that I understood parts of it... Oh,

59:16

things were more significant. Oh man, it was just like...

59:18

I almost had tears in my eyes watching at that time because

59:21

the first time I was like, this is good. It wasn't quite as

59:23

good as the pre-launch Breath of the Wild, that legendary

59:25

trailer, but it was good. Now it's like,

59:27

oh man, it was amazing. It's so good.

59:29

Are you playing in English or Japanese? I'm playing

59:32

in English. Oh really? Yeah.

59:33

Did you switch the voices? To what?

59:36

To Japanese? Oh no, I'm talking about...

59:38

I'm playing all English. I will say, I

59:41

think the voices are a marked improvement

59:44

over the first game. But

59:46

I have also heard a lot of the Japanese and the Japanese

59:49

is a huge improvement over the first

59:51

game. The Japanese in the first game was sort of like

59:53

standard... It wasn't bad, but it was

59:55

kind of by Japan's standards, it was sort of like,

59:57

this is like your traditional anime.

1:00:00

The second game is like they busted out the budget

1:00:02

or something. It is fantastic. The Japanese

1:00:04

would think of subtitles and I'm really enjoying it.

1:00:07

Oh my god. Once I saw that it was dubbed

1:00:10

English voice acting, I was like, all right, I'll

1:00:12

do subtitles. I want the lips to match the voices

1:00:14

and have not looked back since. It's not like

1:00:16

a super high fidelity, like 4K lip work going on

1:00:18

there. Sometimes they're pre-recorded,

1:00:21

bit-rated. No, I mean, it's good. I think it's good in any

1:00:23

language, but I will say I think the Japanese really

1:00:26

went nuts this time. Because,

1:00:28

you know... There's some cool moments. Yeah,

1:00:30

I'm actually... And I love that, you

1:00:32

know,

1:00:33

most of the story is the

1:00:36

key story points, at least in the first chunk of the game,

1:00:38

are delivered

1:00:39

kind of

1:00:40

out of order potentially and at your own

1:00:42

pace. You can kind of choose when to get them. That was another thing

1:00:44

I did very early, is I went and got all those story bits

1:00:47

very quickly. And wait, let me finish.

1:00:49

So the nice thing about that though

1:00:52

is you can watch them at any time. So you can also just go back

1:00:54

and change the voices and listen to them in a different language if you

1:00:56

want to. I remember the first game had like really good... What was it,

1:00:58

like Spanish or French or something was

1:01:00

awesome too. There's all these different languages,

1:01:02

so you can go back and re-listen to stuff. Are

1:01:04

those cutscenes item dependent? Like area

1:01:07

dependent? Or is it the first one

1:01:09

you visit will always give you this

1:01:10

cutscene? The second one will always give you this. No,

1:01:12

it's area dependent. So

1:01:15

like I saw like the end of this... Not

1:01:17

the end, but like a very far point of... Like I basically

1:01:19

had the story spoiled for me by the story very

1:01:22

early and I was like... Because

1:01:23

you just picked the wrong one to go to first. I'm not gonna say what...

1:01:25

See, I can kind of... It's the level

1:01:27

of like... Who died? Like it was

1:01:30

like...

1:01:30

Holy shit. Like right after the... You know,

1:01:32

they show

1:01:33

you... I think probably everyone sees the same first

1:01:35

one maybe or at least the prelude to like them.

1:01:37

They

1:01:37

show you like... There's the first one

1:01:39

in the quest. Yeah. And I'm like, oh, this is sweet. This is

1:01:41

happening and oh, this is cool. She's gonna get a change

1:01:44

of clothes. Yeah. And then the next one is like, what

1:01:46

the fuck? I can't believe this happened. Like I

1:01:48

obviously went, you know, I don't... And I think

1:01:51

it's an interesting choice. That was a choice, right? Because they could have

1:01:53

made it that you just got them in order.

1:01:54

It's the same way that they did the memories,

1:01:57

right? In Breath of the Wild.

1:02:00

It could be, but I don't remember, but

1:02:02

I don't remember period, but I also don't remember

1:02:04

feeling like, wow, this is really spoilery or

1:02:06

out of order. I feel like I got stuff in generally

1:02:09

in the right.

1:02:09

There is the big difference that in Breath

1:02:11

of the Wild, you knew how the story ended. Unless

1:02:14

you played Age of Calamity. It

1:02:16

doesn't count. We don't know her. So

1:02:21

when you're putting together those memories, you're

1:02:23

like, oh, that's how we got to where we are

1:02:25

now. Yes. Right.

1:02:29

I think you saw where

1:02:30

you were. I was a little disappointed because I was like, oh my God,

1:02:32

like I would have liked to see like, because I think I went from

1:02:34

like two to like eight or something like that. I was like, okay, I

1:02:36

would have liked to see like four or something

1:02:37

before I saw this one. I think I got the second

1:02:39

last one as like my first one, which honestly was

1:02:41

very cool because I was like, oh, fuck.

1:02:44

Yeah. What happened? What

1:02:47

brought us here?

1:02:48

It's an interesting idea. I

1:02:50

think the storytelling in this one is considerably

1:02:53

better than the first one, but I also,

1:02:55

I like

1:02:56

it a lot, but I don't yet love it, I will

1:02:59

say, but I kind of depends where it's going. So

1:03:01

I mean, I have a,

1:03:02

I know the first chunk of it where it goes,

1:03:04

but I really could go anywhere from here and I'm

1:03:07

very interested to find out.

1:03:08

And your approach is interesting to me

1:03:10

because it's very different from mine where you

1:03:13

said, you know, you want to go to all

1:03:15

the towers and get that full map

1:03:17

and you want to unlock a bunch of shrines so that you've got that

1:03:19

fast travel

1:03:20

option. I want to make it

1:03:22

easier to do all the fun stuff. So

1:03:25

I have been doing it differently where I am

1:03:28

actively pacing myself.

1:03:30

I'm not unlocking a tower until

1:03:33

I am going to dedicate time to exploring

1:03:35

that particular

1:03:36

zone. I'm doing the same thing.

1:03:38

I don't unlock a shrine if I'm not going

1:03:41

to then immediately go in and clear it. Same

1:03:43

here. So like, I'm not going to

1:03:45

go up into the sky and mark up a bunch of shrines.

1:03:51

You're too patient. Yeah, seriously. I'm

1:03:53

sorry. I've been waiting for this for six

1:03:55

fucking years. I'm going to dole

1:03:57

it out to myself. There's so much to do.

1:03:59

So that like, I mean, I feel like

1:04:01

if I pace myself, it'll last me

1:04:04

a full calendar year. I

1:04:06

think it's going to, I guess what I'm getting is I think

1:04:08

it's going to last you that anyway. Like it's

1:04:10

that huge. Like I, my underground,

1:04:13

I'm sorry, my, my like a depth map

1:04:15

is like 10% maybe not even

1:04:16

like five, 10%

1:04:18

open. And I did find a

1:04:21

bunch of like, you know, you can find, I don't, this

1:04:23

is fine. You can find like old maps, right? That like

1:04:25

mark spot underground. Yeah. Okay.

1:04:28

Because you're so far out of where I could have possibly

1:04:30

gone.

1:04:31

I found a few maps, but I haven't found what

1:04:33

is at those locations yet. Yeah. I

1:04:36

basically completely ignored the underground

1:04:38

until I was like, I kind of want that shrine sensor

1:04:41

and that guy won't leave until this quest gets resolved.

1:04:44

Oh, do you need to go underground for that? I got that pretty early on, but

1:04:46

yeah, there's like a weird follow up. They improve

1:04:48

that by the way, it's better in this one. But like what

1:04:51

made me want to do that is there

1:04:53

is a certain creature

1:04:55

that roams the earth on a certain route

1:04:58

that when I jumped on it, it took me

1:05:01

through the entire, like from the

1:05:03

north, what you're talking about. Stop

1:05:05

Northeast to the north, southwest.

1:05:07

Wait of the underground. Yeah. Oh,

1:05:11

I can, I can imagine who you're talking about or what you're talking

1:05:13

about, but I don't, yeah, I haven't done that. And that made me go,

1:05:15

Oh, there's a lot down here. I guess I'll come by. Speaking

1:05:18

of lots, uh, the one, this

1:05:21

is probably going to be a spoiler, but I honestly don't know.

1:05:24

But one thing I'm bummed about is that when you

1:05:26

look at the map, you can't tell where you've actually been, right?

1:05:28

It's a huge place. I have no idea where I've

1:05:30

been.

1:05:31

Perhaps continue playing. Keep

1:05:33

on keeping on. Well, Robbie,

1:05:36

I'm sure because he keeps talking about upgrading my, my

1:05:38

slate, but he won't leave the camp. Yeah,

1:05:40

you got to do a few of the story things to

1:05:43

get there. And I would say it's worth doing

1:05:45

that just to get to that point because, um, the,

1:05:47

I mean, you don't need the sensor,

1:05:50

but, but it is actually nice to have. And it's improved.

1:05:52

It will now tell you like, if something is above you or below

1:05:55

you, as opposed to just like, I'm sorry,

1:05:57

you're near something. You run around forever. The only, the

1:05:59

only time I cracked.

1:05:59

was I missed, totally

1:06:02

missed the Paracel.

1:06:05

Oh, no. I did too. So you

1:06:07

talked to her, and then she goes right over there, and you talk to her again, and

1:06:09

she gives it to you. I just was like, well, that conversation's

1:06:11

done. Oh, same. I actually, yep.

1:06:15

I didn't get it early on. It's been hours, and I sort

1:06:17

of get it set up. I was like, that's why I went to Kakariko Village, I think.

1:06:19

That's not good. You weren't obsessively

1:06:22

speaking to Pura until her. She's

1:06:24

so hot. She's so hot. She's

1:06:26

a cutie. No, I actually.

1:06:28

Those shoes are hot. She

1:06:30

finished the conversation. She was like, OK, get

1:06:32

me off. We're going to knock it now. And I was like, OK, cool. See

1:06:35

you later.

1:06:36

I read her diary. And then I lost my temper. I was just like,

1:06:38

OK, I can't play this game. I ended up going

1:06:40

to a shrine. I ended up going to a shrine

1:06:43

where if you didn't have that, maybe

1:06:45

you couldn't beat it. And so I ended up,

1:06:48

or at least not easily, and I ended up dying.

1:06:50

And I was like, OK, I'm probably supposed to have this by

1:06:52

now. And that's how I ended up going back, and I just started

1:06:55

talking to everybody, and then I finally ended up getting it. And I did

1:06:57

the same thing. I just had totally missed it the first time. That

1:06:59

was exactly my experience. Interesting.

1:07:01

Yeah.

1:07:02

I actually, for a brief moment, I think

1:07:05

Alonuma showed off the parasail in that video,

1:07:08

that pre-release video. Oh, and

1:07:09

you were like, I should have had this by now? No,

1:07:12

I couldn't remember if he did. And for

1:07:14

a little while, I was like, do you not get

1:07:16

the parasail in this game until

1:07:19

I hit a shrine where you obviously needed it. Yeah, it was

1:07:21

very clear that you needed it. And I was like, I don't have it.

1:07:23

I saw some. You've got to build a flying machine. That'll

1:07:26

solve it. That'll solve all your problems. I

1:07:28

saw a lot of people saying on Twitter that

1:07:31

they were really panicked,

1:07:32

that they were worried that they had missed

1:07:35

the second piece of the starting

1:07:37

outfit. They felt like they

1:07:39

had progressed too far, and they're like, did I miss

1:07:42

this clothing item somewhere? I was literally like, where the fuck is

1:07:44

it? Meanwhile, I'm just

1:07:47

super hyped that I can play for several hours

1:07:49

without having to put on a shirt.

1:07:51

Did you see that somebody tweeted this, but

1:07:54

you'll get different reactions from people if you

1:07:56

walk around without clothes on? Almost

1:07:59

every character has a shirt on.

1:07:59

unique lines for you. Yeah, it's really

1:08:02

cool. That's something that had

1:08:04

me kind of reeling when I thought about it a little bit too

1:08:06

hard is how much text is in

1:08:08

this game. There's a

1:08:09

lot of contextual dialogue here. There's

1:08:11

a lot of... Everybody talks about the weather.

1:08:13

People talk about the weather. Someone

1:08:16

giving me a quest says, you know, oh

1:08:18

it's that mountain over there. Well, it's

1:08:20

raining right now so you can't see it, but I promise

1:08:22

it's over there.

1:08:23

The wall button is a huge

1:08:25

win, right? Oh yeah. Like I'll be like

1:08:27

twisting for a second or something and I'll say something and I like miss a

1:08:30

beat and you can just immediately look. You

1:08:32

hit the button and it just immediately shows you everything.

1:08:34

I was not paying attention. I would have totally,

1:08:37

you know, made that... You know what

1:08:39

I do for that is I'll take the 30-second switch

1:08:41

video and then just go back and watch my last what

1:08:43

I missed. But yeah, that is the log button. The

1:08:45

log

1:08:46

function is very smart. And

1:08:48

quests, you know, there are people who will

1:08:50

send you on quests and say, you know, take a picture

1:08:53

of blah blah blah and come back and show me. And

1:08:55

I go and do one of those and then on the way back

1:08:57

I find a similar thing and I think,

1:09:00

hmm, so I take a picture of it just to be sure

1:09:02

and then I'll go back and say, hey, have your picture and they're like,

1:09:04

cool, look for this. You already

1:09:07

have it? Yeah. Of course you do. What

1:09:09

a genius. And I'm like, yeah, bitch, I know. It's

1:09:11

pretty great how they do that. And you

1:09:13

know, they could have so easily. It would have been very

1:09:15

simple to just end the quest dialogue

1:09:18

and then I speak to her again and

1:09:20

then it just starts the you completed the quest. But

1:09:22

no, they don't make me take that extra step. They've

1:09:24

accounted for that and written extra lines for

1:09:27

if I am,

1:09:28

you know, link it's super keener. Yeah, I love

1:09:31

it. He gets a little sassy in those like I had

1:09:33

one where it was like I need you to get me

1:09:35

three meets or whatever and the dialogue truck was

1:09:37

like, oh, you mean meat like this. And

1:09:40

I was like, whoa, all right.

1:09:42

I know you're a little stressed, but we don't need to

1:09:45

to get

1:09:45

so passive aggressive here. Trying

1:09:48

to think of stuff that I maybe didn't like

1:09:51

or want to complain about. I don't have

1:09:53

a lot. I don't I don't really don't have a problem with the controls. I

1:09:55

mean, I definitely they are super complex. They

1:09:57

are not for like, you know, small children.

1:09:59

Definitely. I do feel like they eventually

1:10:02

become second nature I hope they

1:10:04

I would love to have let them Rebind

1:10:06

the functions because I would have just made Dark

1:10:08

Souls controls I would have put attacks on R and

1:10:11

L or R and ZL. It would be interesting if you could do

1:10:13

something like that It's like it's kind

1:10:15

of it's still awkward to me and it just

1:10:17

like I still cannot rotate stuff Appropriately

1:10:20

the first time it's like okay. Let's go Oh

1:10:23

I've gotten really good at rotating.

1:10:25

I was rotating in my dream I'm

1:10:30

not the first week. I was literally having dreams

1:10:32

about this game and I was rotating just shit in my dream

1:10:34

Just random

1:10:35

shit. Exactly what you mean? Yeah, I was telling my

1:10:37

wife I'm like I keep dreaming about rotating

1:10:39

stuff and like the uh The

1:10:42

you know, by the way, you know, you can hit ZL when you're rotating

1:10:45

and it will flatten the object Huge

1:10:50

huge So

1:10:54

Tool tip for that it probably was somewhere

1:10:56

but but I missed on

1:10:57

the screen while you're doing it But the word

1:10:59

that they use for it is they say

1:11:01

reset which is not what it does. Yeah, it's

1:11:03

not reset It actually said it to its original

1:11:06

setting. It just was this is the big

1:11:08

win To

1:11:14

call in no, but I'm gonna get something

1:11:16

in terms of things to like and this is really

1:11:18

not a complaint but this is probably the one thing that

1:11:21

Got me the most early on is it's there's

1:11:23

a lot of like doodads early

1:11:25

on It's like you've got your zonite and your

1:11:28

zoe this and your zodah and you've got these gotcha

1:11:30

machines and you go to the Forge Constructor

1:11:33

something and then you go to the crystal refinery and it's

1:11:35

like

1:11:35

a lot of steps I actually was like this

1:11:38

is overwhelming. I am NOT going to bother with

1:11:40

any of this And so I didn't mess with that stuff for a while I

1:11:42

took a friend of mine to be like here's how it

1:11:44

works and then which is the great thing about Zelda Zelda

1:11:46

is like The playground game you learn a lot of stuff from your friends.

1:11:48

It's fine. So I'm okay with that How's it work cuz

1:11:50

I what I what was that? How's it work? I

1:11:52

ignored it Oh, it's it's complicated asked

1:11:54

me later But like basically like you know you you have to like

1:11:57

get certain items first and then you take those

1:11:59

and trade them in for other items and you can basically extend

1:12:02

your batteries. Right. And

1:12:05

I've got like seven I think now or something, but I would

1:12:07

have never known that at all if somebody didn't

1:12:09

explain it because when they're telling you in the game, it's

1:12:11

just too much information to take in at the

1:12:13

start. There's no context for why

1:12:15

you would need that. Like

1:12:17

when you first encounter it, you're like, why

1:12:20

would I need to do any of these things? It's just an

1:12:22

intermediary

1:12:22

step. It doesn't really serve a purpose

1:12:24

besides those guys need to be found

1:12:26

and they only sell so many at a time. So you like if you

1:12:28

have a bunch of the zone, I

1:12:30

like this guy only have 30 pieces. You're like, you know, I'm

1:12:32

trying to do this thing or whatever. And

1:12:33

I ended up like I told you, I couldn't find the

1:12:36

damn auto build. So I spent all this time and I had

1:12:38

my battery. I had like four full batteries. And

1:12:41

my son who had been playing like three times as long as he's

1:12:42

like, how'd you get all those batteries? You gotta

1:12:45

work for it. Yeah, I still have a battery.

1:12:48

It's always annoying when you need to trade

1:12:50

in an item for a specific kind of

1:12:52

upgrade. And there's like, like, you know, Hestu is real cute,

1:12:55

but like I skip his dance every single

1:12:57

time. Oh, of course. I watched

1:12:59

it the first time, but then of course, of course. Yeah.

1:13:01

But you know, that's a little bit cumbersome. And

1:13:03

so to have an extra step in there as well, where

1:13:05

you need to take raw materials,

1:13:08

get them forged into a thing and then take

1:13:10

those to a different location

1:13:12

to get another

1:13:13

thing is really irritated.

1:13:15

It's a bit, it's a bit much. But

1:13:18

yeah, it's like when you go to Pachinko, you

1:13:20

don't get much, you get the metal balls and

1:13:23

you got to take them out. Exactly that. And

1:13:25

then you go around back and the dude gives you the real good stuff. Yeah. I

1:13:27

have a question. So with the gacha machines

1:13:29

and the answer could potentially be a very minor spoiler,

1:13:32

but sometimes so I've only I guess,

1:13:34

can you put all different kinds of stuff in the gacha machines

1:13:36

or like, there's a very specific currency

1:13:38

from that culture. I don't know if it is charges,

1:13:42

weapons,

1:13:43

weapons, anything you put in there, you'll get something

1:13:45

back, some pay back a lot more than others. But

1:13:47

sometimes I just get my shit back that I put in. Like, what

1:13:49

is that? Like, does anybody know why that happens sometimes?

1:13:52

Are you putting

1:13:52

devices into the thing? I will sometimes

1:13:54

put the same stuff in. Maybe I'm doing maybe

1:13:57

I'm picking what I think I'm picking. I'm picking the wrong thing.

1:13:59

Like I'll put zonite in and I'll just get zonite back.

1:14:01

Okay, that's yeah See I've been

1:14:04

putting in only charges because the game told

1:14:06

me to do I put in a charge

1:14:08

and then it gives me a bunch of prizes and

1:14:10

I wonder if I'm just picking the wrong thing sometimes

1:14:12

You can put in the horns like you know the stuff. Yeah I

1:14:20

had no idea and the more you put in the more

1:14:22

more you get back Like if you put in one you get one But

1:14:25

if you put in like three you get five and like like there's more

1:14:27

the more stuff you put in at once You'll get more out, but if

1:14:29

you put the right stuff I sometimes put the wrong stuff apparently

1:14:31

because Every

1:14:33

time I find a new big big

1:14:35

bulb thing gotcha pun Yeah, I'll

1:14:37

put in five regular charges and

1:14:39

then one big charge Oh wow

1:14:41

and just get whatever prizes it

1:14:43

gives

1:14:43

me. Let's see the thing is here. I

1:14:46

Don't think the put I could be wrong I

1:14:48

actually have no idea but I don't assume that

1:14:50

putting in a big charge doesn't help you like it doesn't make Your

1:14:52

odds better gives you a bunch of shit more

1:14:55

shit Yeah, but you can get more shit by just putting

1:14:57

in more small stuff and those big charges are kind of rare But

1:14:59

yeah, eventually, you know on the map. It'll tell you all

1:15:01

the possible things you can get on there. And so

1:15:04

But yeah, I don't know. I mean I've

1:15:06

gotten a lot I got a lot of stuff at this point, so it's not a big deal

1:15:08

anymore But early on I was a little bit perplexed

1:15:10

by all that stuff But can we

1:15:13

talk about how annoying it is

1:15:15

to make a perfect glider?

1:15:16

It's all kitted out.

1:15:18

You got a long cruise down. You're like, oh my god I'm

1:15:21

gonna just like save now so I can go back and play this over

1:15:23

and over again You go back to that save and your vehicle is gone.

1:15:25

Yeah They do not let

1:15:27

you it's

1:15:28

it's worse than that. It's not only saves

1:15:30

It's if you go too far away your

1:15:32

objects will despawn. Yep

1:15:34

Yeah,

1:15:37

there was a quest where I had to transport

1:15:39

an object from point A to point B

1:15:42

and I built a vehicle to do it and

1:15:45

it kind of Fucked

1:15:47

up in the middle and

1:15:49

I lost my you know, the

1:15:51

object dropped and I was like ah shit I need

1:15:53

to get this baby back up in the air So

1:15:55

I you know went around and forged for

1:15:57

parts to build a thing to get that baby back

1:15:59

up in the air and I went back to

1:16:02

that baby and it was gone and it had

1:16:04

put itself back at the start

1:16:06

of the project or you'll walk the tiniest bit

1:16:08

too far away from your car and

1:16:14

accidentally enter a new

1:16:16

map area. I do this in the

1:16:18

depths a lot where I've got my four-wheeler

1:16:20

and then suddenly I will accidentally

1:16:24

cross

1:16:28

the state line and it will bring up an area title

1:16:30

and I'm like no because that means my car is now

1:16:32

gone.

1:16:32

It was like 10 feet

1:16:34

behind me but the car is gone. Good

1:16:37

to know. That's

1:16:39

where the open build comes in right? Because you can just cash

1:16:41

in whatever you want. You don't have to have the parts on

1:16:43

you. Yeah, exactly. There

1:16:46

was one puzzle that I was trying to brute force because

1:16:48

I saved in front of a bunch of zonite

1:16:50

items and I was like oh okay here

1:16:52

are the zonite items. I can smash

1:16:54

them together and I saved with the,

1:16:57

it was a crystal so I put the crystal on the item and

1:16:59

then I would save. This didn't work and I went to reload

1:17:01

and I'm like oh I have to run all the way

1:17:03

back to grab the crystal and then.

1:17:05

Yeah, they're not going to let you shortcut. You

1:17:08

got to earn it. But they do on so

1:17:11

many things but I feel this

1:17:13

is like a technical limitation here. Speaking

1:17:16

of technical limitations, we're probably getting close

1:17:18

to where we should start shifting our conversation

1:17:20

but there is a couple more things I want to talk about. How

1:17:23

about caves?

1:17:24

There's caves everywhere in this game. I

1:17:27

am so happy whoever

1:17:29

in a meeting room somewhere

1:17:32

said maybe we should leave a little checkmark on

1:17:34

the map when you've completed the objective in

1:17:36

that cave. Maybe that would be a nice thing

1:17:38

to do for the player.

1:17:39

Wait, what objective are you talking about? So

1:17:41

there's a collectible item that

1:17:44

you have to. You're talking about the

1:17:47

things from the white creature or whatever? Yes,

1:17:49

there's one in every cave. If

1:17:51

you get the one in that cave, it automatically

1:17:53

puts a checkmark on your map. I didn't even know. You

1:17:57

know that you don't have to go back to that cave.

1:17:59

Did you find that the person who wants those

1:18:02

things? I sure did Man

1:18:06

Jesus My

1:18:08

bitch with the caves is the I mean

1:18:10

it's it's on I don't know how 12

1:18:12

year old hardware Whatever it is, you know, the

1:18:14

lighting is not this game's strong suit It can

1:18:16

be beautiful outside and then the chasms

1:18:18

the depths are awesome, right? They're pitch black

1:18:21

and you gotta illuminate everything So like obviously the

1:18:23

tech exists all those caves are like

1:18:25

super flat lit and just like super No

1:18:28

interesting lighting going on at all.

1:18:29

There's no You

1:18:31

know disappearing of anything like it It's just like a flat

1:18:33

color throughout everything about their caves and it's not even very

1:18:36

dark And I'm just like why did they do that? That's interesting.

1:18:38

That was a choice and like I wonder yeah I wonder

1:18:40

if that was an early choice that occurred to

1:18:42

me. Yeah, but it is totally

1:18:43

true anything of it But I love the cable

1:18:45

because something is just so flat in those caves But then

1:18:47

you go underground and it's like amazing right? pools

1:18:51

of light and you got these great silhouettes and just a

1:18:53

murky blackness and Caves

1:18:56

go crazy deep though Like there's some cool

1:18:58

like just I can't believe how far like

1:19:00

some of them is like Oh, it's one room and you're done and other ones

1:19:03

are like I've been in this cave for like 30 minutes

1:19:05

Like when is it gonna end? Did

1:19:07

everybody? Know about the wells

1:19:10

like finding because there's like reasons

1:19:12

to like seek out wells in this game and down

1:19:14

every well is effectively Another cave too. So

1:19:16

there's just so much stuff to explore. It's

1:19:18

really really nice Yeah, I

1:19:20

have no I mean maybe I'm

1:19:23

about 30 hours in I

1:19:24

Have no idea how big the game is Like I honestly

1:19:26

have no idea how much stuff is still waiting

1:19:29

for me Like I feel like there's a lot But I feel

1:19:31

like there might be more than I'm even aware of and I haven't

1:19:33

done almost anything up in the sky either Like

1:19:35

I just haven't really yeah I'm just starting now

1:19:37

to like start exploring now that it's easier

1:19:40

to get there or I have ways of getting there and ways

1:19:42

of getting Around there because

1:19:44

it's not easy to explore the sky as it is the

1:19:46

other two planes But I'm starting to move

1:19:48

around a bit more and it's it's fun There's

1:19:50

I'm not even gonna say what it is But there's also another

1:19:52

currency that I haven't got enough

1:19:55

yet to figure out what it does But there's like another item

1:19:57

besides like

1:19:58

a stuff that gives you heart containers and

1:20:00

stamina and stuff. And so I'm

1:20:03

looking forward to figuring out what that is. I don't know. And

1:20:05

so, but yeah,

1:20:07

there's stuff to do up there. There's stuff to

1:20:10

do below. There's stuff to do pretty much everywhere.

1:20:12

The quest log is really great, right? Because it's

1:20:14

got

1:20:15

your side quests, your shrine quests. Side adventures,

1:20:17

I think those are new, right? Yes. Or were those in the last game,

1:20:19

side adventures? I don't remember those. But there's like, in

1:20:21

your list of shit you can do, now they have side adventures

1:20:24

in addition to side quests and shrine quests

1:20:26

and story quests and all these other

1:20:29

quests. And my list is just

1:20:31

gigantic at this point. There's so much shit to

1:20:33

do. Way bigger than it ever got in Breath

1:20:35

of the Wild by far. There's like a lot

1:20:37

of stuff to do.

1:20:38

That's another thing that I have

1:20:40

noticed a change in myself, is I'm like, everybody

1:20:43

just fucking shut up

1:20:45

sometimes. Oh my god. Everybody

1:20:48

gives me an awful lot of information.

1:20:51

And everyone gives me a lot of instructions,

1:20:53

which I have never had a problem with

1:20:55

before.

1:20:56

And I know that that is very specifically

1:20:58

because I am now a

1:21:00

person who has played FromSoft games. And

1:21:03

when I went into Elden Ring, I was like, why aren't they

1:21:06

telling me where I am? Why aren't they telling

1:21:08

me who I am? What am I supposed

1:21:10

to do? What the fuck? And now

1:21:12

that feels a bit more comfortable. So now

1:21:14

getting the full explanations of everything, I'm like, OK,

1:21:17

guys, I already know. Yes,

1:21:19

you've told me. I already heard about it. OK, cool.

1:21:21

Thank you so much. Bye.

1:21:22

I actually know. In a weird way though, I'm

1:21:24

OK with it this time. In the

1:21:26

first Breath of the Wild, one of my minor

1:21:29

complaints was that, because I really

1:21:31

wanted to be alone

1:21:32

in that world. That's what the first Zelda was.

1:21:35

I mean, there's a few people, hints. There's an old man. There's an

1:21:37

old woman. There's this, there's that. But there's not much. And

1:21:39

I was wanting that for Breath of the Wild. When I got to the first town, I was

1:21:41

almost like, oh, there's people here. Like, I didn't want to

1:21:43

talk to people.

1:21:44

There's like 12 people. Everyone else

1:21:46

is dead. In Breath of the Wild?

1:21:48

Yes. No, I mean, eventually, there's

1:21:51

several towns and stuff. We're all hiding.

1:21:53

But in this one though, there's a lot

1:21:56

more. And there's a lot more talking. And

1:21:58

yet at the same time, I'm OK with it.

1:21:59

because somehow it fits this world better. It

1:22:02

reminds me of Zelda II. Zelda II had a lot more talking

1:22:04

than Zelda I, but it's like, at the same time,

1:22:07

my expectations coming in were different and I'm okay

1:22:09

with it. And so, yeah, I agree, they talk a lot.

1:22:11

But I think there's actually a lot of interesting stuff. There's some

1:22:13

weird side stories, there's some fun stuff. There's

1:22:16

people who are angry at each other and just weird

1:22:18

things going on in different places.

1:22:20

The children in the first game are a few

1:22:22

years, five years older, and so if you actually remember

1:22:25

some of them, they're kids who are

1:22:27

two feet tall in the first game, are like four feet tall

1:22:30

in this game and they're still around and they look like older

1:22:32

versions of themselves, it's really cute. It's weird

1:22:34

that so many people don't remember you. Story-wise,

1:22:36

there are people who are like, oh, they know you, they

1:22:38

remember you, but I saw Beetle and I was like,

1:22:41

Beetle, my boy? And he's just like, hi,

1:22:43

you know, bye bye. You don't even know if there's one needle. You

1:22:45

could be like 700 Beatles.

1:22:46

I kind of like the idea that

1:22:49

people don't really know who you are unless you've got Zelda

1:22:51

with you. Yeah. No, but

1:22:53

a lot of people, though, are like, I mean,

1:22:56

eventually, I think a lot of people were like,

1:22:58

holy shit, it's you. So it's not that nobody

1:23:00

knows you, but yeah, it's weird that a lot of the regular

1:23:03

people are just like, who's this loser talking

1:23:05

to me right now? Yay, it's funny, I think

1:23:07

it's funny. But it helps, though, with the like, hey,

1:23:09

I need 10 Toads. Are

1:23:11

you gonna ask the bodyguard of Princess

1:23:14

Zelda? You're not busy, right? I

1:23:16

need 10 Toads when you just go, oh, hey, what's

1:23:19

your name, Lake? All right, I'm gonna call you John.

1:23:21

All right,

1:23:22

John, I need blah, blah, blah.

1:23:24

But I do want to say that I got old World

1:23:28

of Warcraft vibes because

1:23:30

of the quest design of very much of the, like,

1:23:32

you read the text and it's like, oh, it's off

1:23:34

to the northeast-ish

1:23:36

over there. Look

1:23:39

for the little marker, the landmark. That

1:23:41

was very much in the first game, though, I would say. Yeah, but I haven't

1:23:43

played that for like five years, John. I see, I see. You

1:23:45

played World of Warcraft in the last five years?

1:23:47

Actually, yes. All right. If

1:23:51

there's other stuff people wanna talk about, by all means, I have

1:23:53

one other thing that I definitely wanted to touch on, which I think

1:23:55

is cool. And this is like marginally

1:23:57

spoilery, but again, not.

1:23:59

not anymore so than we have already, but like,

1:24:03

you know, beating

1:24:05

a dungeon in this game earns

1:24:07

you a power, right? Yes.

1:24:10

You get a reward. Yeah, you get a reward. They're

1:24:12

awesome because they're with you all the

1:24:14

time. Like I thought I was going to have to choose. So

1:24:18

again, a little bit spoil. I guess there's actually a little bit of a story

1:24:20

for you, Jake. So like,

1:24:21

well, my son ruined it all. Okay. So

1:24:24

like if you've done more than one temple, you know,

1:24:26

each temple that you clear, you get a effectively

1:24:28

like a,

1:24:29

like a spirit avatar thing that helps you out,

1:24:32

but they're all together like they don't leave.

1:24:34

So like you don't switch between them. They're all with you. I've

1:24:37

got like a fucking army now. Like I got a party of people

1:24:39

with me. It's badass. They

1:24:41

get in the way sometimes actually, which is really annoying. Like get out of the camera,

1:24:43

dude. But like it's really the

1:24:45

same thing as the ghosts. Like

1:24:49

it's kind of the same sort of, but it's impressive. It's

1:24:51

really impressive to me that they can do that

1:24:53

in this game. Like, cause this is not like the most powerful

1:24:56

hardware I've got right now. I've got like

1:24:58

literally three dudes running around with me everywhere.

1:25:00

And it's like, how are you doing this?

1:25:02

When I, when I got my first one, they

1:25:04

tell you in the instructions, you know, you can kind of toggle

1:25:06

them on and off from XYZ menu.

1:25:08

Yep. I never figured that out.

1:25:10

Can you turn them off? I've never tried because I like

1:25:13

them. Yeah, me too. I thought that that meant that

1:25:15

you had to choose which one you had

1:25:17

active. Yeah, exactly. Me too. Bitch,

1:25:20

you don't got it. You can have them all. Yeah.

1:25:22

When the second one showed up and then the first one didn't leave, I was like, Oh, okay. That's

1:25:25

pretty cool. We're all just going to hang out now. That's all getting

1:25:27

this car I built. Yeah.

1:25:30

My son totally ruined that for me. He was like the person he knows.

1:25:33

I have three of these things now. I was like, Oh, I didn't

1:25:35

know that existed. I

1:25:39

actually had to buy a, so he's on it all the time.

1:25:41

My wife now

1:25:43

years later has somehow decided that

1:25:45

now's the time to play through a

1:25:47

breath of the wild. No kidding.

1:25:49

Nice school. So she's on my old switch. The kids

1:25:51

are on like the old beat up switches, all full of boogers and pickles

1:25:54

and whatever. I'm on my new

1:25:56

one, but all the screens in the house are basically taken

1:25:58

up and being

1:25:59

full of stuff. So I actually bought some

1:26:02

of those. You guys see those in real AR

1:26:05

glasses?

1:26:06

I don't think I have.

1:26:08

I have a real. They look like Ray-Bans. They're like

1:26:10

really minimal. They're AR glasses, but you can actually put a

1:26:13

piece of like it comes with a thing. You can just kind of clip on it.

1:26:15

Maybe just become really small, but

1:26:16

really high definition. It's

1:26:19

like a personal display, basically. And

1:26:22

it plugs right into the switch and it's beautiful.

1:26:24

It looks better than it looks on my TV and

1:26:26

I have it totally private and I can lie down anywhere in the

1:26:28

house, put my my Bose headphones

1:26:31

and plug into my little glasses and I just like they can

1:26:33

play all day, all weekend. Like, you know, no kidding. I'm

1:26:35

in the big TV and I'm like, I don't care. And

1:26:37

I'm just like off of my own little world. And it's fantastic.

1:26:40

It's really, really cool. And it looks it looks insane.

1:26:42

I don't know why it looks so good. It literally looks better

1:26:44

than it does on a TV. It's crazy. It's

1:26:47

like your own theater. It feels like playing

1:26:49

in like VR theater mode or whatever,

1:26:51

basically. But the display, like, you know, when you play it like a piece

1:26:53

of it, too, it's great. It's beautiful. It's the best looking

1:26:55

VR thing out there. This is like 10 times prettier

1:26:57

than that because it's actually a little tiny display.

1:27:00

And it's like, I

1:27:01

don't know what they're doing. It's a totally different type

1:27:04

of tech. And so it just looks insane. It

1:27:06

looks so beautiful. And

1:27:08

everything is like just the colors are so saturated rich.

1:27:10

And like, it feels like you're in your own kind of theater. Like,

1:27:13

you know, it's just I don't know. It's phenomenal.

1:27:15

Nice. So I'm thankful that the family is all hooked on

1:27:17

Zolta at the same time because it's going to help me to justify

1:27:20

this thing. And I got caught up in the in

1:27:22

the in the pre-release hype,

1:27:24

like, I think, you know, buying up a bunch

1:27:26

of random shit that I probably didn't need, but just wanted

1:27:28

to like, I got the old Zelda switch

1:27:31

and I

1:27:32

I ended up buying the Zelda Pro Controller and I'm playing

1:27:34

with it. It's actually really nice. I bought the link

1:27:36

amiibo. I actually went to buy that because

1:27:38

my wife stole mine. And so I have to kind of rethink

1:27:41

it every time I sit down to play. And I'm like, I don't

1:27:43

know. I need the app excuse to buy the kingdom

1:27:45

controller. And I think I have it now. I

1:27:49

went to I saw you went to show. Here's a question.

1:27:51

So they had a they had a Zelda

1:27:54

raffle thing at Lawson, the convenience store here in

1:27:56

Japan, where you could like buy tickets and win

1:27:58

items. Oh, Jake got.

1:27:59

the sword. Did you actually get the

1:28:02

sword like on your one ticket or did you like buy it off

1:28:04

somebody? I mean, I know you got it. What I'm asking

1:28:06

is like, did you get it like actually by luck? We

1:28:08

know you own the object. Did you acquire the

1:28:10

object through lottery means

1:28:13

or did you pay an exorbitant amount

1:28:15

of money on the internet?

1:28:15

We have our little chat

1:28:18

thing and I saw I think somebody taking a picture

1:28:20

of like the whole suite of stuff

1:28:22

and I was like, I thought maybe you bought

1:28:24

them or something and I just kind of didn't really pay

1:28:26

a lot of attention and I was like, it's

1:28:29

a day, you know, I was busy. I had to work all day

1:28:31

and I didn't get it placed out. I was like, it's the other day. I'm going to go in.

1:28:33

I'm going to just do this dumb thing. Whatever.

1:28:35

I'll see what's available. I'll buy one

1:28:37

and I didn't quite understand it and the guy

1:28:40

didn't really, he was from somewhere. He didn't really speak

1:28:42

much Japanese and so we

1:28:44

ended up speaking in English. This is guy

1:28:46

at the blossom.

1:28:47

Yeah.

1:28:48

And I was like, how does it, there was like the plastic

1:28:50

folders over there and I was like, can I just get one of those? He's like, you need to

1:28:53

buy like five Snickers and you can have one of those. Yeah.

1:28:55

Yeah. Yeah. Like, well, what about the other cool stuff? He's like, oh,

1:28:57

and then like, I kind of explained it to raffle and I was like,

1:29:00

uh, and I was like, I couldn't read the

1:29:02

congee. I thought like there was a chance you wouldn't win anything

1:29:04

and I was like, it's eight bucks, you know?

1:29:07

And

1:29:08

he's like, no, no, every ticket wins something. And I was

1:29:10

like, okay. And so, uh, it was the first morning

1:29:12

they were doing this thing and I, you know, I

1:29:14

opened it up and I was like, okay, this is important.

1:29:17

And I just, you know, one seemed to kind of

1:29:19

gleam better than the other ones and I picked up that ticket

1:29:21

and I opened it up and it was an A. You literally

1:29:24

got one ticket and you got the sword. Jesus,

1:29:27

man. You were like the luckiest dude I've ever met.

1:29:30

That is like jackpot. And the other guy came

1:29:32

over and he was like, hey, hey, hey. And

1:29:34

the other guy came around and he's like, what? Hey, he's like, hey,

1:29:36

hey, they're always,

1:29:37

I'm like, what the fuck is A? The

1:29:42

guy comes back with a sword and she's like, this

1:29:44

is the only one in the store. We only got one of them.

1:29:46

And I was like, really? And then she's like, you want it? And I was

1:29:48

like, well, I'm a big Zelda fan. So this is great. I'm

1:29:53

lucky son of a bitch. I got mine. But

1:29:55

I had to buy it. Oh, really? Oh yeah. That's right. You

1:29:59

said you don't have any near.

1:29:59

your place. Yeah, they're

1:30:02

just far enough away from my house that I couldn't really

1:30:04

comfortably go over lunch. And by the

1:30:06

time it was evening and I was

1:30:08

going out to do other things, they were just all

1:30:10

sold

1:30:11

out at my neighborhood. I went first thing in the morning to

1:30:13

my local Lawson and I bought two tickets. And

1:30:15

I got like, I don't know, H&F or something.

1:30:17

Yeah, I got like those like, rupee like, dishes and stuff.

1:30:19

It was cool, but whatever. And then I was like, I'm going to come back

1:30:21

tonight. When my wife gets home from work, we'll go buy some more.

1:30:24

All gone. Every Lawson in like, the

1:30:26

greater Tokyo area was completely

1:30:28

wiped of items by the evening of

1:30:31

the first night that is not common.

1:30:33

I was like,

1:30:34

yeah, maybe that was, maybe that was an, I

1:30:36

mean, you know, part of it, I think, is there is this

1:30:38

sort of culture of like,

1:30:40

people who buy up everything and then go sell it on, whatever,

1:30:43

and that sucks, resellers and stuff. But at the

1:30:45

same time too, I think it was also a slight indicator

1:30:48

that like, Zelda has finally hit

1:30:50

it in Japan. This is, so the

1:30:52

news went out very early, like

1:30:54

that the game sold 10 million copies worldwide

1:30:56

in three days, which is crazy. But 2.24

1:31:00

million of those were Japan. That is more

1:31:02

than any Zelda ever in three days.

1:31:04

Like Zelda was always kind of here. There's 1.7%

1:31:07

of Japanese people. Yeah, yeah. Of

1:31:09

the country. Like

1:31:10

Zelda, you got to understand if you're not

1:31:13

from here, Zelda has never been huge here. It's always

1:31:15

been like a known and respected thing, but it was never

1:31:17

big. But now it is like legit officially big. And

1:31:19

so part of that might be why also the Lawson things

1:31:21

were gone, but of course you would get it. I bought

1:31:23

one. So, you know, what you do with these things,

1:31:26

if you don't get it, you can go on like Mercari

1:31:28

or like Yahoo auctions or whatever and buy

1:31:30

like from people who did win them and sell them. And I ended up

1:31:32

spending like 75 bucks or something

1:31:35

for one. And so, but I had to

1:31:37

have it. I mean, it's like 400 now. Yeah,

1:31:39

I knew it was gonna go up. So I got it

1:31:40

early. I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna, this hurts.

1:31:43

It's gonna hurt a lot more if I don't get it now. I'm

1:31:45

just gonna do it. It's not going down. And I did.

1:31:47

Yeah. So

1:31:48

I was lucky. I went to an Ami-Sons,

1:31:51

King of Games studio to

1:31:54

introduce this British book guy that was in town.

1:31:57

Yeah. Who's a big designer. And

1:31:59

Ami-Sons, needed all the stuff. So he bought

1:32:01

off Marukari, somebody had, you know, obviously

1:32:03

bought basically the whole creative stuff.

1:32:06

And so he got everything in there. He had a bunch of extras. And so

1:32:08

I wanted those those ruby plates. And so I

1:32:10

got all three colors of those. Nice. I got all three

1:32:12

of those too. And I was able to buy them for the

1:32:14

price of three tickets. So I don't feel like I got to

1:32:16

offer anything. So that was cool. I got like a red, blue and

1:32:18

a green rupee. But um, yeah,

1:32:21

like those there was there were

1:32:23

people selling the entire set of every item for

1:32:25

like $400 on on those sites. And

1:32:27

like, you know, now it's probably four times that.

1:32:29

So yeah,

1:32:30

but it's cool. It's fun. It was fun to get caught up in the hype.

1:32:33

Yeah, you know, I bought that stuff. I went

1:32:35

out to my local, I have an electronics

1:32:37

store not far from me. That's kind of big game

1:32:39

section. And I went there at 10 a.m.

1:32:41

when they opened and there were six people in front of me, which

1:32:43

is, you know, not common these days, right?

1:32:46

Of course, everybody went right to Zelda. Yep. And

1:32:48

I got one of the six amiibo that they had there.

1:32:51

They only had six. They were gone in like 10 minutes.

1:32:54

I want that new one and it's like up to 40 bucks. I'm

1:32:56

just like, dude amiibo is what so

1:32:58

I have a lot of amiibos is everybody knows back in the

1:33:00

day I used to buy all of them. I don't I stopped

1:33:02

at some point, but it's worth a fortune

1:33:05

now. Holy shit, man. Like I went to buy I

1:33:07

was like, oh, I never got

1:33:09

the

1:33:10

the Majora's Mask link with the with the $200 now

1:33:14

or something like out here. Like they're not cheap

1:33:16

at all anymore. So crazy.

1:33:18

Yeah. Anyway, we talked a

1:33:20

whole lot about Zelda. Any closing? We're

1:33:22

still obviously all playing and going to be playing for a while longer.

1:33:25

I'm sure we'll be talking about it more in the future. But any

1:33:28

closing thoughts from anyone on the

1:33:30

I haven't touched a PC

1:33:32

engine in two weeks. I

1:33:35

got to change your nickname. Oh,

1:33:37

man. You OK? I

1:33:40

mean, it's going back soon, but you're

1:33:42

going to go back and play like newtopia two or something. I

1:33:45

still got more the steel waiting for me.

1:33:47

So what I'm hearing is that you haven't

1:33:49

been playing tunic, huh? That's

1:33:52

all right. Yes, that is what you're given. No,

1:33:54

I haven't been this invested in a new

1:33:56

release since Metroid Dread. Whatever

1:33:58

that was. Nice. Yeah, that was great.

1:34:01

It was so good. That's all I have to say. My

1:34:03

takeaway is that I was, of course,

1:34:05

nervous, a little dubious. I didn't

1:34:07

know where they were going to go with it. I was always wondering

1:34:09

if they were going to really maximize the

1:34:12

people.

1:34:12

We were talking about Breath of the Wild

1:34:15

and people were making crazy stuff and figuring out

1:34:17

all this crazy stuff.

1:34:19

This YouTube culture of people going deep

1:34:21

on it, it wouldn't

1:34:22

make sense for them to go deep into this stuff,

1:34:24

but as Nintendo, you never know which direction they're going to go

1:34:26

with stuff. They might just completely skip over

1:34:29

this stuff. They might go deep on it. Who knows? They

1:34:31

went super deep into it.

1:34:32

Like I said, those first couple of hours, I was a little nervous

1:34:34

that this was just basically a giant DLC. I was like, I

1:34:37

don't know. I like Breath

1:34:39

of the Wild. I love it, but I was like, oh, I

1:34:41

don't know about this. Now, I'm just

1:34:43

thankful that I love it. It's one of my favorite

1:34:45

games of all time already. It's an instant masterpiece. It's

1:34:48

so good.

1:34:49

It's the kind of good that you can only get by

1:34:51

literally spending 12 years on the same – Seriously,

1:34:54

yeah. Not only

1:34:56

that, it's not just time. To give credit to these

1:34:58

guys, I think I have –

1:35:00

I've always had great respect for Nintendo's devs,

1:35:03

but for this game, I'm kind of like, these

1:35:05

guys are the best in the world. They

1:35:07

are untouchable. They could do all this

1:35:09

shit with this hardware, and it just

1:35:12

does not – Again, it's like a miracle that nothing

1:35:14

breaks. It just works. I mean, the stuff that's broken

1:35:16

in this game is like the stuff Jake was talking about earlier.

1:35:19

There's a couple of exploits where you can duplicate items and

1:35:21

things, and I'm sure they'll patch that stuff out. I don't know what he's

1:35:23

talking about. That is just an oversight. The

1:35:25

fact that you can build the most ridiculous

1:35:28

transformer bullshit and carry

1:35:30

it across a

1:35:30

river or whatever, and it just fly it. When

1:35:34

I do my amiibos every day, for the first couple of days,

1:35:36

I was stacking all the treasure chests after and making this

1:35:39

giant glob. I can carry that shit around

1:35:41

the world and attach it to a raft and send it off. I

1:35:43

could do whatever. It all just works.

1:35:46

It's crazy. They have mastered

1:35:48

this formula. Like mastered this formula.

1:35:51

I can't wait to see where they go next.

1:35:54

I don't think they're ever going to go back to more traditional Zelda

1:35:56

stuff. This is so...

1:35:58

I agree. Don't speak that. I

1:36:00

would love to see two tracks

1:36:02

of Zelda where we have one track that is

1:36:04

this new awesome one and

1:36:06

one track that is like Link's Awakening

1:36:08

remaster like I want to keep that shit going. That's

1:36:11

actually so into prediction

1:36:13

time. Well, I know he did sort of talk about that a little

1:36:15

bit but I agree like where does Zelda go next

1:36:17

is actually a really interesting topic and

1:36:20

again, I'm not done with this game yet, so I don't

1:36:22

I don't know exactly how I'm gonna feel but I am feeling

1:36:24

like

1:36:26

It's gonna be really hard like it was hard enough

1:36:28

to to follow up Breath of the Wild But

1:36:30

how do you follow this up like yeah, you

1:36:33

can't do another stick I mean you can I guess but are

1:36:35

you gonna do another six year cycle on something and just

1:36:37

go even bigger or

1:36:38

You know what I could see in the short-term future

1:36:41

is putting on my my little wizard hat here

1:36:43

Is like I think that when the new switch comes out

1:36:46

it would be cool I don't know that they'll do this But it'd be cool

1:36:48

if they had did like like a sort of like

1:36:50

a HD version where yeah Like just

1:36:52

better performance in general and looks a little nicer,

1:36:54

you know Considering there's probably

1:36:56

two maybe three DLCs on the way at some

1:36:58

point You know if that third one maybe

1:37:00

comes out at the same time as the next switch or something That'd

1:37:03

be cool You know just give people a reason to get it but also

1:37:05

to come back to this game and play it in more high Fidelity,

1:37:08

but also like I don't know. Yeah, I don't

1:37:10

know what they do. I don't

1:37:12

I don't see them going back and making more traditional

1:37:14

3dzldas, but I think Like

1:37:18

it's like a smaller cuter spin-off,

1:37:20

you know

1:37:21

Maker or something. Yeah,

1:37:24

but I think I think the mainline

1:37:26

stuff is gonna I mean they have they

1:37:28

have It will yeah,

1:37:30

it's insane how good they have mastered

1:37:33

this stuff. It's better than any other open-world game. It's more

1:37:35

engaging It's got more character. Yep. It's more

1:37:37

flexible. There's more stuff to do

1:37:39

Like they have mastered it and like at this point

1:37:41

they're so good at it You know the next game

1:37:43

will only be better if they stick in the same vein

1:37:45

and I yeah I don't know what that means No,

1:37:49

I don't I know what you mean. I I I

1:37:51

yeah, I think that it's

1:37:53

of course They're gonna keep doing other games on the side.

1:37:56

They've been doing that for years, but I apart

1:37:58

from remastering old games Maybe a remaster

1:37:59

making them, I

1:38:01

feel like there's more room to develop

1:38:03

what they did with Link's Awakening or

1:38:05

Link Between Worlds. There's so much room to

1:38:08

do interesting 2D stuff with Zelda still.

1:38:10

But 3D, I feel like it's going to be, I can't see them making

1:38:13

another Twilight Princess or something. It just

1:38:15

would not make sense. And it would

1:38:17

not hit the way these other games. I mean, I

1:38:19

don't think Skyward Sword hit that hard. Like the Remake,

1:38:21

I don't think people are really into it. Because I hate motion

1:38:24

controls. After Breath of the Wild. Well, it's not even just that, though.

1:38:26

I think after Breath of the Wild, it's just kind of hard. I

1:38:28

tried to play it on Switch. It's just hard to go back to it. It's

1:38:30

linear. And I'm so used to now being able to just kind

1:38:32

of explore.

1:38:33

I mean, it literally is the heart of

1:38:37

exploration and adventure. It's completely

1:38:39

up to you. You've got so much capacity

1:38:41

to do stuff. And everything is just open for

1:38:43

you to do. You can tackle stuff in anywhere you

1:38:45

want. You can get into really dangerous

1:38:47

places and push yourself. After

1:38:50

becoming this hardcore Dark Souls guy

1:38:52

in Elden Ring years,

1:38:55

the one-hit kills don't bother me. I'm like, eh. You

1:38:58

get hit, you get killed. My fault? Get good. No,

1:39:00

no, no, no. But given the level of creator

1:39:02

stuff in this game

1:39:06

where you're basically building

1:39:08

things, I think I could see a future where

1:39:10

they make some kind of thing where you can make your own crazy

1:39:13

dungeons. And you could make more than just the

1:39:15

objects, but you can make the game. You know what I mean? But

1:39:18

I mean, I don't know. We'll see.

1:39:20

I do hope that we get more story-based Zelda, but

1:39:22

I don't. Yeah.

1:39:23

The streaming thing and just, we're

1:39:26

going to be seeing people making crazy shit five years

1:39:28

from now that you're like, what? He

1:39:30

made the entire Eiffel Tower robot thing.

1:39:33

You will see crazy shit like that. And then the people will

1:39:35

keep surprising us. And I think that's where they

1:39:37

really dug into that. And they did it. They won.

1:39:40

Congratulations. And I know there's a lot of people like me

1:39:42

who also just got really good at tight-rope walking

1:39:44

and just would walk across something that I couldn't figure out how

1:39:46

to get across. I've done that three or four times now where

1:39:48

I walked across a really long thing that I was supposed

1:39:50

to figure out how to get across. And I couldn't, but I managed

1:39:52

to keep my balance the whole way

1:39:53

across. Can I give you a hot little tip?

1:39:57

So sorry, guys. I'm going to

1:39:59

spoil it. this. You

1:40:02

can attach a mine cart to

1:40:04

a shield and

1:40:06

then shield surf across

1:40:08

rails. Ah, interesting. With the

1:40:10

mine cart. Yeah, I did put a mine cart

1:40:13

on my weapon very early on and that was awesome. Just

1:40:15

having a giant mine cart on the end of my

1:40:17

sword. There was a shrine and I was I could not figure

1:40:19

out how to get the mine cart to work

1:40:22

so I put it on my shield and I was like this

1:40:24

probably isn't gonna work and then I

1:40:26

jumped and shield surfed and then made

1:40:29

the hump I couldn't pass and then cleared the shrine

1:40:31

and I was like

1:40:31

I hate this game. Yeah, so

1:40:34

I have one of those in my inventory at all

1:40:36

times now. Oh yeah. Nice.

1:40:38

I will soon. Good times. Highly

1:40:41

recommend. Good times. Alright,

1:40:43

well speaking of good times, we're way over time and we still

1:40:45

gotta get to news so why don't we take a short break

1:40:47

and then we will come

1:40:50

back and wrap things up with the news but

1:40:53

this is just the beginning. I'm sure there'll be plenty more to talk

1:40:55

about Zelda. Mark still has to play and

1:40:57

yeah it's a big game so I don't know that we'll

1:40:59

be coming back to it as much as we did with Elden

1:41:01

Ring. I feel like Elden Ring had this weird thing where we

1:41:04

just came back for months on it but like

1:41:06

nothing else was out. We'll see but

1:41:08

yeah but

1:41:08

I definitely think we'll be talking about Zelda for weeks

1:41:11

to come. I got panicked because

1:41:13

the new Final Fantasy looks phenomenal and I'm really excited

1:41:15

to play it but like we only have like a month.

1:41:17

I think that

1:41:18

they're gonna scratch

1:41:20

different itches though like I really don't think that that

1:41:22

is going to replace Zelda.

1:41:24

Like I think I can see myself playing both of those simultaneously

1:41:27

and not feel like a weird overlap. I don't

1:41:29

have the free time to do that so I have to do one

1:41:31

thing and like carry it through and I don't want to be distracted by

1:41:33

that. I'm gonna finish this. I'm gonna take my time. I'll enjoy

1:41:35

it and then I'll move on to that. Sure.

1:41:38

Jake will you be joining us after the break?

1:41:41

I actually do need to skedaddle. All right

1:41:43

so Jake why don't you get

1:41:46

the plugs out there? Zelda

1:41:49

lover 123 at gmail.com. No

1:41:51

it's jkooza

1:41:55

at jkooza on Twitter

1:41:57

and Instagram.

1:41:59

at 17 underscore bit, B-I-T.

1:42:04

We just released our super duper

1:42:06

PSVR2 survival adventure

1:42:09

game, very inspired by Zelda Adventures

1:42:11

called Song in the Smoke, rekindled. Yeah,

1:42:15

I mean Kyoto, if you're around, dropping me a line, I had a

1:42:17

lot of randos coming through town, just kind of

1:42:19

dropping me a line. I've been meeting a lot of cool people lately, other

1:42:21

game devs and other people just coming through town.

1:42:23

So yeah, drop us a line if you're around. Will

1:42:26

you be at Bit Summit in a couple of weeks,

1:42:28

son? There you go, that's also on the news, Bit

1:42:30

Summit is coming up.

1:42:31

All right then. We'll do all that.

1:42:34

And with that, we'll take a break. Jake, safe

1:42:36

travels, safe driving. Thank y'all.

1:42:39

And we'll be back

1:42:41

right after this.

1:42:43

["S C

1:43:11

Allorge Are

1:43:19

you ready? ... News

1:43:22

We did it, friends. I'm

1:43:29

very happy. We are running

1:43:31

a little late. I have

1:43:34

driving lessons tomorrow morning. I'm getting

1:43:36

my license. So I have an early start

1:43:38

tomorrow. I have

1:43:40

to get back to your Ventide Island. Sure.

1:43:43

So hey, we had the PlayStation Showcase

1:43:45

happen. That's right.

1:43:46

This morning, I actually... This

1:43:49

morning as of us recording this. Yes, we are

1:43:51

recording Thursday night. Came out

1:43:53

at 5am. I caught it at 9am when I finally

1:43:56

got out of bed.

1:43:57

I have the rundown here that was done on... Reddit,

1:44:01

how about I just go through what we have in order and you

1:44:03

guys jump in when you have something to

1:44:05

say. How's that feel? Yeah,

1:44:08

sure. All right, so starting off, we

1:44:10

have Haven Studios is making a

1:44:13

kill the rich fair game dollar

1:44:15

sign,

1:44:17

heist like game. That

1:44:19

looked interesting. That kicked off the show,

1:44:21

so I half expected the showcase to start with GTA 5.

1:44:26

Just because they have a tendency to do

1:44:28

these things.

1:44:30

But that's, is Haven Studios the Jade

1:44:32

Raymond studio? I

1:44:34

don't know, I should know, I don't know. I know that her

1:44:36

studio had something in here, but. Yeah, but that

1:44:39

kicked off the show. Then we got Jim Ryan

1:44:42

greeting us and giving us the rest

1:44:44

of the showcase. And we went straight into

1:44:46

Helldivers 2.

1:44:48

This year, PS5 and PC, I got Starship

1:44:50

Trooper vibes. I never played the first. Yeah, it looked cool,

1:44:52

I got EDF vibes a little bit. Yeah. Oh

1:44:54

yeah, that could be a fun thing. Then we got Immortals

1:44:56

of Avium. This is by EA

1:44:59

coming July 2023. Yeah,

1:45:02

at some point EA somehow

1:45:04

moved back to a

1:45:06

position where I kind of feel like I have to keep a little

1:45:08

bit of an eye on the corner of what

1:45:10

they're doing. They were completely meaningless to me for

1:45:12

years with all their garbage, but they've gotten back to

1:45:15

doing some good stuff. This is cool. Yeah, the

1:45:17

Dead Space remake was really good on console.

1:45:19

This is one of the only original

1:45:21

games that grabbed my attention if I'm not correct.

1:45:24

Phantom Blade at zero. You're not correct. This

1:45:28

was the, it looked kind of like Sekiro

1:45:31

with some Wushu. Yeah, something I didn't

1:45:33

get to do after this, I wanted to, but I didn't get to

1:45:35

go back and read up because a lot of these games didn't even

1:45:38

say who was making them or give any context

1:45:40

in the actual showcase itself, which

1:45:42

I thought was a little bit of a

1:45:44

missed opportunity. But

1:45:45

I, you know, yeah, you can go read stuff, but I didn't.

1:45:47

Who is this game? I have

1:45:49

no, Google it's got me. Because it kind of looked, the art

1:45:51

direction looked almost a little bit Eastern,

1:45:54

like in the sense of like,

1:45:56

well, it looked like it might've been made in Japan or made

1:45:58

in, you know, Korea or something.

1:45:59

It's Chinese actually. It's Beijing. Oh, well

1:46:02

that explains a lot. I actually watching

1:46:04

the trailers, I was like, wait, is this Neo3?

1:46:06

That's what I thought, too. OK, thank

1:46:08

you. I look cool. That

1:46:11

that actually has my attention. Then

1:46:13

we had Swords of the Sea maker from

1:46:15

Abzu. That was cool, too. That looks beautiful.

1:46:17

Yeah, no no release date shown.

1:46:20

Then we got Talos Principle 2.

1:46:22

Got a release date of later this year. I

1:46:25

highlighted no actual date. I never played

1:46:27

the first one. Cool.

1:46:30

Then we got Neva or Niva. I

1:46:32

never. This is this is one of the standouts

1:46:35

for me. This was the emotional animals.

1:46:37

This is Devolver Publishing. Devolver

1:46:39

had a few games, I think, or a couple at least. Yeah, yes.

1:46:42

This was the wolf defending the owner

1:46:44

and and valiantly

1:46:46

sacrificed itself.

1:46:48

Twenty twenty four. And it's it's

1:46:50

by the same people who made Greece, which

1:46:53

has been on my to play list for like

1:46:56

years and years.

1:46:57

I understand what you just said, but it took me a second.

1:46:59

At first, I thought you said Greece and I was like the movie

1:47:02

Greece. So here's the thing.

1:47:04

Fun little aside about that. I in my,

1:47:06

you know, mental monologue

1:47:08

have called it Gre for like years and

1:47:10

years because I'm a French speaker. Yeah. Yeah.

1:47:13

But I looked it up earlier today because I was

1:47:15

like, well, I'm going to be speaking about it so I need to know how

1:47:17

to pronounce it. And the does have said

1:47:19

that it is pronounced Greece because it's

1:47:21

Spanish, not French.

1:47:23

Oh, well,

1:47:24

there you go. Anyway, so now I definitely

1:47:27

need to play that. And I'm 100 percent

1:47:30

going to be playing this one whenever

1:47:31

I can. Wait, you're OK with this, but you weren't OK

1:47:33

with Guardians of the Galaxy three. What's going on here? Like you're

1:47:35

so I really like Guardians. We had this conversation.

1:47:38

I just gave this very upset about. I just can't

1:47:40

watch it again just because I've heard. A lot of

1:47:42

people talk about that, about that movie is interesting.

1:47:44

It didn't bother me. I mean, but

1:47:47

I understand how

1:47:48

this trailer choked me up. So I'm really

1:47:50

excited. Yeah. How

1:47:53

do you feel about Cat Puns? Because we got Cat

1:47:55

Quest Pirates of the Perribean or

1:47:57

the Peruvian, which is that the one that looked like.

1:47:59

Like a mobile game one of them

1:48:02

games in this just looked like it was like like

1:48:04

a like a total gotcha mobile game

1:48:06

Like weird like why is this on ps5?

1:48:09

I just remember the emotional whiplash from sad

1:48:12

wolf dog Honestly,

1:48:15

I wouldn't have wanted to follow that trailer regardless

1:48:17

of what my game is well, okay I'm okay with

1:48:19

cats in any form so it's fine What if you're

1:48:21

square enix and you're trying to complete compete with

1:48:24

Splatoon with this was interesting

1:48:26

foam star out of nowhere? Do

1:48:29

we know who's making this I didn't look this up either. Sorry

1:48:31

not here Not

1:48:33

here in Japan. You mean not here in the breakdown No

1:48:41

release date it looks fine. It's you know,

1:48:43

hey we can do Splatoon 2 and

1:48:45

Ninjala from Gung-ho

1:48:48

the the puzzle and Dragons people is a you

1:48:50

know, pretty much a big I don't want to call it a Splatoon

1:48:53

ripoff But I mean if you don't know anymore is a Splatoon

1:48:55

ripoff and uh

1:48:57

No, I know what square enix I'm wondering who in squirt like is

1:48:59

the screen Japan is it like one of their like parties

1:49:02

but um, but You know

1:49:05

Ninjala is on like there are still TV

1:49:07

commercials for that Oh, yeah all the time They're using all

1:49:09

their millions and gazillions of dollars that they made in

1:49:11

puzzle and Dragons to promote the shit out of that game And I

1:49:14

think it makes sense because Splatoon is a is

1:49:16

like a phenomenon here And so it's

1:49:18

understandable that they would make

1:49:20

something that immediately makes you think go splatoon. It looked

1:49:23

cool You know what it had a decent art direction and like

1:49:25

foam is cool Yeah,

1:49:26

we're in the foam room in the club

1:49:29

in your life or whatever It's a clever way to do like the squid

1:49:31

ink surfing is like you surf on

1:49:33

the foam. Yeah Yeah after

1:49:35

that I got some Puppeteer

1:49:38

vibes from plucky square. I'm super

1:49:40

excited Coming this year

1:49:42

no solid release date But that was the storybook game

1:49:45

that turned like you could leave the storybook into

1:49:47

the 3d world and the game literally continued

1:49:49

This

1:49:49

one it's been announced for

1:49:52

a while and there's been a couple of little teaser trailers

1:49:54

about it And there have been some tiny

1:49:56

pieces of gameplay shown, so I was really excited to see

1:49:59

more

1:49:59

because this is one of the ones that I'm

1:50:02

really looking forward to and I will occasionally be like, is

1:50:05

there any news on that game yet? And I'll like, you

1:50:07

know, look it up to see if there's been anything.

1:50:09

So I think it's one of those games and I

1:50:11

completely apologize to anybody. I

1:50:13

don't mean to. I don't know anything about who's making it or whatever,

1:50:15

but it's one of those games that's either going to be amazing or like garbage

1:50:17

is my. Yeah. And so I'm really hopeful that it's amazing

1:50:20

because it looks really cool. It's got a solid,

1:50:22

solid concept. Yeah. After that, teardown

1:50:24

is getting a PS5 release later this year.

1:50:27

I laughed when the giant PS5

1:50:29

crashed through the ceiling of the building. Otherwise,

1:50:32

I don't really care about teardown

1:50:33

itself. I recognize like

1:50:35

you can only see Bart Simpson so

1:50:37

many times and also how do they do mods and all that

1:50:39

stuff? Because a big part of teardown was the

1:50:42

sandboxing mod stuffs coming up. Get

1:50:44

hyped, everyone. Get hyped.

1:50:48

Are you serious or I can't tell? Are you like

1:50:50

a big trying to not yell by actually

1:50:52

extremely excited? Oh, are you? Okay. But

1:50:55

what is it? Metal Gear Solid Triangle,

1:50:58

Snake Eater. Delta

1:51:00

Gabe, Delta. So my big question.

1:51:03

It is that. Were you serious? I thought you were being prestigious

1:51:05

when you said triangle. I was

1:51:07

like, Oh, are they going to do like triangle?

1:51:10

Oh my God. This

1:51:11

is like when I was back in the

1:51:13

day when I was working at EV games, I

1:51:16

used to get a bunch of kids coming in asking

1:51:18

me for Grand Theft Auto IV.

1:51:20

This is that

1:51:22

all over again. I don't know

1:51:24

the Greek alphabet well enough. I think Delta

1:51:26

is the fourth letter, maybe third. I don't

1:51:28

know. People just call it triangle. Metal Gear Solid

1:51:30

Triangle. Anyway, I want to know about

1:51:33

the song because the song

1:51:35

is the fucking

1:51:35

stand out of the

1:51:37

game, right? Like,

1:51:43

well, it is a karaoke staple in

1:51:45

my group.

1:51:45

You can play. You can sing that karaoke. You

1:51:47

absolutely can. Yo, what are you all

1:51:50

doing after this? I give my life. Okay.

1:51:52

Sounds like we're all just going home. So

1:51:55

this is interesting for many reasons. One, no Kojima.

1:51:58

Well, of course, no Kojima. Yeah. It's not even.

1:51:59

I don't believe it's being done leaks

1:52:02

are saying it's not even in-house Konami And

1:52:05

it was not also minor thing not

1:52:08

an in-engine cutscene. Well, that's it

1:52:10

wasn't even cutscene. It was just a trailer I mean

1:52:12

it was like trailers were that

1:52:15

it was a weird

1:52:17

I'm gonna just say it was a weird trailer like like

1:52:19

okay, I'm gonna back up first of all my

1:52:21

general vibe on this is Yeah, cool. I'm

1:52:24

glad they're not just like letting Metal Gear like rot.

1:52:26

It's cool. They're bringing back stuff. They're remaking their

1:52:28

remastering whatever they're doing That said

1:52:30

I could not help but feel like

1:52:32

this trailer was just super try hard Let's

1:52:34

try to be clever and weird like Kojima was

1:52:37

and we absolutely have no idea how to do that So we

1:52:39

made this weird ass trailer. It was not funny

1:52:41

or interesting and it was not an

1:52:44

engine So like what was the point? Oh my god. That's what

1:52:46

I got hyped. That's what I worked

1:52:48

on Mr. Triangle over here but I Just

1:52:52

felt I couldn't help but feel like wow like

1:52:54

yeah Maybe there's a reason he puts his name on all his trailers

1:52:56

cuz like oh this wasn't that interesting

1:52:58

But yeah, but then you could actually

1:53:01

later

1:53:01

dig up screenshots and the screenshots that

1:53:03

are out there actually look very good So like it doesn't

1:53:05

you know, I it looks good I hope

1:53:08

this means we will some at some point get Metal

1:53:10

Gear Solid 4 From the

1:53:12

clutches of the ps3. So

1:53:15

I was more interested in the very

1:53:17

small announcement right after that trailer Oh, yeah,

1:53:19

they said they were bringing one to one to three.

1:53:21

Yeah, you'll recall they were delisted

1:53:24

right exactly last year or two

1:53:26

years ago They were never on ps4, right?

1:53:29

PS3 will have yeah, right, right. There's no

1:53:31

good digital versions, too Yeah,

1:53:34

there's no easy way to play those games on modern consoles

1:53:36

You know, I have the original consoles if I want to revisit

1:53:39

them I can but a lot of people can't yeah And

1:53:41

they they sort of they call it volume one for

1:53:43

starters, which implies there's more coming which I would imagine

1:53:46

is like Peace Walker portable

1:53:48

ops but also they

1:53:52

Sort of I forget what they said, but they imply that

1:53:54

there's more even on this one collection and then just

1:53:57

Maybe like the MSX because maybe they're doing

1:53:59

the like well

1:53:59

Collection yeah, yeah the old ones.

1:54:02

Interesting they use the snake eater. It's not

1:54:04

subsistence which included the 3d camera

1:54:07

They advertised snake eater the

1:54:09

the not re-release the original really oh

1:54:12

well You know what though that might just be a marketing thing

1:54:14

like I you know I forgot that even existed, but I mean it

1:54:16

would also be really weird to put out this inferior version

1:54:18

like Subsistence is so much better than snake

1:54:20

eater. Yes, so I don't think they're gonna put out

1:54:23

just snake eater But like when you're marketing it

1:54:25

though I don't

1:54:25

think people remember it as Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence

1:54:28

they remembered as Metal Gear Solid 3 snake eater. Fair enough. It's like the

1:54:30

song you know so yeah And that

1:54:32

will be coming autumn 2023 Looking

1:54:35

forward to that

1:54:36

After that we got a towers

1:54:39

of a gazpa. I'm sorry. I don't a

1:54:41

gashpa. I don't know you got that better

1:54:43

Than you got the triangle thing Thank

1:54:45

you, John I

1:54:48

can't he's right. He's like

1:54:51

No release date it was seems like a

1:54:53

civilization builder. This was the one where it's like oh, this

1:54:55

is our our homeland Oh, it's a dump.

1:54:57

We got to fix it

1:54:59

sure I Am

1:55:01

now on board for Final Fantasy 16 with this trailer

1:55:03

really were you not on board before this I was very

1:55:06

like I want I don't want God

1:55:08

of War Fantasy okay,

1:55:11

so like all the stuff about the game mechanically, but this

1:55:13

like

1:55:14

Ensemble piece made me go okay. Yeah, no I'm gonna

1:55:16

go. I'm so baffled by that I Cautiously

1:55:19

pessimistic about Final

1:55:21

Fantasy 16 from what we

1:55:23

were hearing It's like oh, this isn't really because I don't want God

1:55:26

of War. I don't think I've ever heard anybody say cause

1:55:28

yeah Actually own

1:55:30

the domain cautious pessimism calm

1:55:33

all right is that with Yeah

1:55:35

redirect no it actually was my personal

1:55:37

blog. Oh shit. I need to

1:55:41

Go see Gabriel's 10 games

1:55:44

of 2020 there was if

1:55:46

you're into Final Fantasy 16 Which is now

1:55:48

officially less than a month away there was

1:55:50

hands-on preview Coverage that

1:55:52

came out in the last week. I'm not reading it myself. I

1:55:54

mean it's out there and There

1:55:57

were a few stories about how game

1:55:59

of

1:55:59

of Thrones the game feels. And yeah,

1:56:02

I mean, it was

1:56:04

from the very first trailer that they ever showed of the

1:56:06

game, it was immediately obvious that they are heavily

1:56:09

influenced by Game of Thrones. So I'm surprised it's becoming

1:56:11

a story now, but you know. So

1:56:13

it was a combo of that trailer and the

1:56:16

article where Naoki Yoshida, the producer

1:56:18

said, here's what Final Fantasy is, you pieces

1:56:21

of garbo. It's excellent graphics. And

1:56:23

I was just like, yeah. I don't think he joined

1:56:25

the WWE game, Naoki

1:56:29

turned huge back. No, but

1:56:31

I mean, yeah, I mean, I think it looks, they had that big

1:56:33

thing and

1:56:34

what was it, the last state of players? They're like 20 minute gameplay,

1:56:36

which I didn't watch because I'm like, yeah, I think I'm going to play

1:56:38

this, but kind of how you were feeling about Tears

1:56:41

of the Kingdom.

1:56:41

Oh, that explain, because I was like, why would

1:56:44

this trailer be this? Because I'm not thinking it was a bad

1:56:46

trailer or anything. I love a solid

1:56:48

trailer. That's just like a bunch of flashy video

1:56:50

with a bunch of voiceover with

1:56:53

zero explanation. I love that.

1:56:54

I'm not excited that they're adding a bunch of F

1:56:57

bombs that came out in like some of the story coverage.

1:56:59

Yeah, but you got to earn that M rating,

1:57:01

right? We're talking about how it's like, it's very like

1:57:03

Game of Thrones and it's themes and it's profane

1:57:06

profanity. Look,

1:57:07

these bad words when Snake

1:57:09

said shit in Metal Gear Solid 4, I

1:57:12

was traumatized as

1:57:14

a little seven year old game or whatever you were. 17 or 16

1:57:17

hours.

1:57:18

Everybody's first video game swear has

1:57:20

to come from somewhere. Yeah, it was probably

1:57:22

like, mine came from Bionic Commando, old

1:57:24

school baby. Mine was Legend of Dragoon. I'm

1:57:26

calling him out because he's trying to be polite. JP is trying to

1:57:28

laugh off mic. You can laugh into the

1:57:30

mic, it's okay.

1:57:32

Up next, Alan Wake 2. Hells

1:57:35

yeah. This actually looks kind of cool. I missed

1:57:37

Alan Wake completely, but this. Oh dude, you should play

1:57:39

the remaster. I mean, it's a little old now, it's for

1:57:41

sure. But it is a, I

1:57:44

loved Alan Wake, I love Control. And

1:57:46

I'm very excited for this. Is it like a survival horror? It

1:57:48

is a, it's like a. You

1:57:51

can laugh JP, it's okay. I said the horror.

1:57:54

I mean, it was more of a psychological

1:57:56

horror before. And this one does

1:57:58

look like it's,

1:57:59

leaning into that I would say over Alan

1:58:02

Wake 1. Alan Wake 1 was definitely like

1:58:04

uncomfortable at times but it

1:58:06

I don't remember feeling like

1:58:08

like like jump out of your

1:58:10

seat scared but there were scenes in this

1:58:12

trailer that were very much like okay they're going

1:58:15

deep on the horror angle. I

1:58:17

became a fan of Remedy

1:58:19

late. It was Control. Control is a fucking

1:58:21

fantastic game and Control got

1:58:24

me into them and then I went back and I found out that my wife

1:58:26

was already a fan because she has been chasing me and

1:58:28

she played Alan Wake years ago and so we went back and

1:58:30

played Alan Wake Remastered and after

1:58:33

finishing Control and now I'm super hyped for Alan

1:58:35

Wake 2. It looks really good and it's coming soon. It's

1:58:37

coming October. Which was leaked by the Alan

1:58:39

Wake voice actor like three days before the

1:58:41

showcase. Oh was it really?

1:58:42

Well he was like I think it's coming in October. I don't

1:58:44

really know. It felt good to hear his voice

1:58:47

again because you know he narrates the game effectively.

1:58:49

Was he always so when Alan Wake 1 is he supposed to

1:58:51

be young Keanu and now they got old Keanu Stan?

1:58:53

No she mentioned that to me too. She's like he

1:58:55

looks like John Wick now and I'm like yeah and actually like yeah

1:58:58

he very much like looks more he

1:59:00

didn't look like Keanu before.

1:59:02

But yeah no I think it looks great. I'm

1:59:04

really really excited. I'm a big Remedy.

1:59:06

I cannot believe I'm saying this because I never thought I would

1:59:08

be the kind of person who get into like Remedy but I love

1:59:11

Remedy stuff now. I'm very very excited. You're selling me on

1:59:13

Control. Maybe that'll be my favorite. Dude Control

1:59:15

on PS5 is one of my favorite

1:59:17

games this gen. It was fantastic.

1:59:19

It was a PS Plus game too. Good

1:59:21

yeah but play it on PS5 and

1:59:23

in performance mode for sure. Coming

1:59:27

up next Assassin's Creed Mirage.

1:59:29

I thought this was a remake. That looked cool too.

1:59:31

They're going they're going back kind of old-school.

1:59:34

Is this the like non RPG Assassin's

1:59:36

Creed? It seems like it right. It looked very stealth

1:59:38

you know kill explore.

1:59:41

They said they were gonna split the the franchise

1:59:43

into the ones who want old Assassin's Creed

1:59:45

and the ones who want more of Valkyrie

1:59:48

RPG stuff. I just knew they

1:59:50

were going back to this old

1:59:51

sort of thing but yeah it looked very good. I'm excited

1:59:53

and that's how like October 12th week is Alan

1:59:56

Wake 2 man. It's gonna be a busy October. Eh

1:59:58

not for me. You're not

2:00:00

gonna play SS screen? Have

2:00:03

you played any of the recent ones? I played

2:00:05

one two and three dude. The RPG

2:00:07

ones are really good Did

2:00:10

you try them though? Or you'd like? Oh really?

2:00:12

Yeah, those were when I was playing PC a lot

2:00:14

so the PC performances on world and we're not

2:00:16

great at those first few I think they're like all 60 frames

2:00:18

on ps5 now like the ps4 version. So

2:00:20

like you can actually have a pretty good time with them Maybe

2:00:24

I will revenant hill. What was this

2:00:26

like

2:00:26

so this game about a black cat running

2:00:29

everywhere Just gave super hard

2:00:31

night in the woods vibes, right? Can't

2:00:35

be the same team.

2:00:36

It's mostly the same. Okay Okay,

2:00:40

I say that because respectfully like the main programmer

2:00:43

who was a friend of mine actually passed away

2:00:45

But but like yeah Like that's so it

2:00:47

is it is related or

2:00:49

many of the creators of night in the woods

2:00:51

are nice on this team It looked cool

2:00:55

So first of all, I see the finji logo and I immediately

2:00:57

sit up straight because at this point Yeah,

2:01:00

when finji pops up. I'm like, yeah, I know this

2:01:02

is gonna be for me Yeah, and when

2:01:04

I saw that cat on that on that statue

2:01:06

I was like you're fucking kidding me because

2:01:09

I just played night in the woods,

2:01:11

right? Right past winter break

2:01:13

for the first time I I was like completely

2:01:15

unaware I I had no idea about

2:01:17

it. And so you told me I should play it. Yeah. Yeah,

2:01:20

and you were completely correct I enjoyed it very much And

2:01:23

so it was just this moment of like

2:01:25

do I dare believe? Yeah This

2:01:29

timing just worked out so perfectly for

2:01:31

me Specifically

2:01:31

is this a new announcement or has this been announced

2:01:33

before and they're just showing new stuff I mean, I

2:01:36

think it was a new announcement if it's if it's

2:01:38

been previously announced I hadn't seen anything

2:01:40

about it again me outing the fact that I just didn't

2:01:42

have time afterwards to actually read I wanted to read up

2:01:44

on all this stuff and I sure today so I didn't

2:01:47

get to go like do my research But yeah,

2:01:49

I hadn't known about this beforehand and when I saw it I was

2:01:51

like that looks an awful lot like night in the woods,

2:01:53

but it can't be so yeah That's really cool.

2:01:55

Yeah, it seems like the story

2:01:57

is going to lean

2:02:00

into the same kinds of, you know, themes

2:02:03

of the trappings of capitalism

2:02:06

and forced labor systems, etc.

2:02:08

That game was so good. I need to play the game. I'm

2:02:11

excited to see whatever this is going to be. Is that

2:02:13

a Steam Deck game? Because I'm probably

2:02:15

owned by that. Yeah. Okay. Yeah,

2:02:18

yeah. Totally. Up next we have

2:02:20

Granblue Fantasy. This Redditor is showing

2:02:23

their age by saying a Genshin Impact looking

2:02:25

game. I'm pretty sure Granblue is much older. Yeah,

2:02:27

Granblue Fantasy, like, what is it, Relive

2:02:30

or something? I forgot the name. Relink, yeah.

2:02:32

Yeah. Holiday this year. Sure.

2:02:35

It did something for me. I

2:02:37

did my time with Granblue on mobile. I

2:02:40

never did. And I enjoyed it, what it

2:02:42

was, and I think it's a really cool thing, but yeah, I'm

2:02:44

over it now. Sure. Up

2:02:47

next, Street Fighter 6 got

2:02:50

my Obsidian

2:02:51

II arrived, my fight stick.

2:02:53

I'm ready to go, Jon. I can't wait

2:02:55

for this game. I'm so excited. June

2:02:58

2nd. Oh my god, June 2nd. That's very

2:03:00

soon. That's very soon. That's next week.

2:03:03

That's next week. Wow. We got

2:03:05

to get Graham on the next episode then to talk about Street Fighter 6.

2:03:07

Let's talk to Graham. Yeah, we got to. Graham,

2:03:09

I know you're listening. I know you listen to every episode of

2:03:11

Graham. See, you can laugh in the

2:03:13

leg. Come on in. So yeah, we definitely

2:03:16

have to talk about Street Fighter next episode. Very excited

2:03:18

about that. I will come in with a report,

2:03:20

mostly on the single player campaign, which looks cool. I

2:03:23

can't wait to play that. The only thing though

2:03:24

is the timing, man. I'm not done with Zelda.

2:03:27

I'll probably. This is the same thing again. We're

2:03:29

like, they are, they, they fulfill very different

2:03:31

gaming needs. I don't know. It's

2:03:33

not bad, but time is, I

2:03:35

was going to say like a flat circle. Time

2:03:38

is, you know, time is this thing. I

2:03:40

only have so much of it. And so yeah, that

2:03:42

is that problem. There's nothing wrong for Street Fighter 6

2:03:45

arcade edition.

2:03:45

That'll happen, Jon. You can, you can jump in then.

2:03:48

Yeah, no, I really want to play this. I want

2:03:50

to play world tour mode, especially very much, but

2:03:52

yeah, I'm super hyped for this game. I

2:03:55

talked to Graham recently and I asked him if he was playing

2:03:58

Tears of the Kingdom. He was like, nah.

2:03:59

But you know what I am looking forward to. Yeah.

2:04:02

Oh, yeah. I got a. Hells, yeah. Up

2:04:05

next was Ultros. I don't remember

2:04:07

that at all, this description. It's the very

2:04:09

colorful Metroidvania looking. I

2:04:12

still don't remember. Yeah, it looked OK, but it had like such

2:04:14

a. Is that the one that had the extremely

2:04:17

like, not, I don't want to say, yeah,

2:04:19

kind of choppy, I guess, like sort of, I don't

2:04:21

know, it looked OK. It looked cool. Sure.

2:04:23

We'll see. Next year, 2024, was the United States.

2:04:26

Then we got a Tower of Fantasy. Don't

2:04:29

remember that one either, but you know, I watched

2:04:31

it and I don't remember it and I don't mean, you know, maybe

2:04:33

it's cool, but yeah, I don't remember. This says it's a Mecca

2:04:36

Genshin impact. I don't like this person. This

2:04:39

Redditor is has a thing for Genshin. Sure.

2:04:41

Get hype, Dragon Dogma 2, Dragon's

2:04:44

Dogma 2. Yes. Oh, man. Dragon's

2:04:46

Dogma is one of the coolest

2:04:48

games of all time. And Dragon's Dogma 2

2:04:50

looks bad ass. I

2:04:53

saw a friend of the show, Matt Walker, who

2:04:55

was the producer of Devil May Cry 5

2:04:58

when he worked at Capcom. He doesn't work there anymore, but he said

2:05:00

on Twitter today how, like, when he was there, even,

2:05:03

you know, whatever, two, three years ago, when it was very,

2:05:05

very early, people internally were already like,

2:05:07

this game is bad ass. I am very

2:05:09

excited. That makes me happy. What's

2:05:12

his name? It's Nosan, the director of the game. I

2:05:14

have complete faith in anything that guy does. I'm

2:05:16

super hyped. Yeah. No release date, but

2:05:18

oof, I'm in. I'm

2:05:21

looking forward to it. Next,

2:05:23

Five Nights at Freddy's. Next. Help

2:05:25

Wanted 2, late 2023. PSVR 2,

2:05:28

they showed off a little.

2:05:29

They showed some RE4

2:05:31

VR footage. It was interesting. Like, all

2:05:33

of a sudden, I mean, I don't know what they showed

2:05:35

in there that you can, maybe you can argue all the

2:05:37

stuff in the normal game I never tried, but blocking

2:05:40

a chainsaw with your knife in VR looks like something

2:05:42

I want to do. I do wonder

2:05:45

what they're going to do if they did, like, the Oculus

2:05:47

Quest one, where, like, when you do a roundhouse

2:05:49

kick or a suplex, it zooms out. Are they

2:05:51

going to do the cutscenes in first person? Like, that

2:05:54

stuff to me. I need those questions

2:05:56

answered. This one is more,

2:05:58

that's more likely to be possible, right? Because I'm

2:05:59

Presumably most of the cutscenes are in engine to begin

2:06:02

with there's not like any CG weirdness or going

2:06:04

on or anything So yes, like in the

2:06:06

in the old ones sometimes you just had to watch the cutscene You're

2:06:09

basically right but even re8 had some

2:06:11

like we're gonna switch to theater view sure

2:06:13

sure I understand I'm just they're

2:06:16

calling it VR mode. I hope it's the whole

2:06:18

game and not just parts of it, but Yeah,

2:06:21

I give them comfort because re8 was the whole game when

2:06:23

they went and that one Yeah, but I just don't know why they're calling it VR

2:06:25

mode I don't maybe it's just bad naming so the

2:06:28

achievements and stuff are completely separate

2:06:29

on re8 So maybe that's kind of what they

2:06:32

mean of just like hey, it's a completely separate

2:06:34

Parallel experience I would just

2:06:36

be bummed if it's like only the village or something Yeah,

2:06:38

that would be kind of like another because there's already

2:06:40

so it was a great game How do you like irreverent

2:06:43

90s humor because we got Arizona sunshine

2:06:46

to the the zombie

2:06:48

game by vertical games? Oh, we're in

2:06:50

VR mode territory So this

2:06:52

was yeah, I'm realizing this is where I sort of checked out

2:06:54

because I don't really remember a lot of this stuff Like I

2:06:56

read I went back after and looked look

2:06:58

up all the big stuff So I know some of the stuff coming

2:07:00

up, but I don't remember this. Yeah, this is coming out

2:07:02

later this year It's it's it's a zombie

2:07:04

VR first-person game. Yes, no

2:07:07

disrespect people are working hard on that Okay, let's

2:07:09

speed mode through the VR then crossfire Sierra

2:07:11

squad. It's your call of duty, but not

2:07:13

on PS VR Too we got a gate cool

2:07:16

synapse a puzzle game by n dreams

2:07:19

puzzle shooter apologies July 4th 2023 cool

2:07:22

day beat saber that

2:07:24

actually looked kind of cool. Maybe I'll actually get beat saber.

2:07:26

I never played it We never played beat. Oh, no, it's good,

2:07:29

man So maybe they'll buy beats a bird is like

2:07:31

the ultimate exercise game. I'm not oh you have

2:07:33

my attention I never was into Queen,

2:07:35

but I'm sure they have other oh my god They're

2:07:37

getting like that when I read Queen

2:07:39

I just thought like oh they must have had the king pack before

2:07:41

you mean like that Queen yeah, oh man

2:07:44

awesome. Yes. I love it having a good

2:07:46

time and now we're back to PS 5 games Bungie's

2:07:49

newest IP game whatever marathon

2:07:52

You

2:07:54

say new IP but we know what marathon is right

2:07:57

no actually no marathon is like what they did before

2:07:59

Halo yeah

2:07:59

There's like several marathon games on

2:08:02

Mac. I think yeah, they were a Mac dev

2:08:04

I didn't know they they did marathon yeah, although

2:08:06

they I think I can't tell I read some stuff about

2:08:08

it afterwards And it sounds like it's like it's related

2:08:10

It's just maybe the same universe, but it's not quite

2:08:13

like a direct follow-up and in fact. It's PvP

2:08:15

only I believe Which is a bummer

2:08:17

for me? I'm not a PvP guy But I totally respect

2:08:19

and understand that there are tons of people who are just super

2:08:22

into that shit And you know if bungee's making is gonna

2:08:24

be good so yep

2:08:25

Cool and bungee wasn't done. We got

2:08:28

a DLC trailer for destiny 2

2:08:30

the final shape apparently the guy They killed off his

2:08:32

back probably because

2:08:33

Lance Radek passed away Who

2:08:36

was the the Titan? faction

2:08:39

dude Anything

2:08:41

you just said, but that's cool. Let's keep going they killed Kate

2:08:43

and now he's back uh I don't

2:08:45

know what that has to do with Lance Radek He was

2:08:47

the voice of the Titan the main Titan dude Yeah,

2:08:50

and he passed away and now this

2:08:52

trailer was like oh, I wish you didn't die and

2:08:54

they're talking about Kate That's how okay alright. I

2:08:56

still don't know but I'm sure I'm In my head

2:09:02

That's the title Concord

2:09:05

has been revealed That

2:09:07

was PS 5 and PC 2024.

2:09:09

I don't remember that game

2:09:12

Then we got a trailer for the grand turismo

2:09:14

movie Which was also

2:09:16

a trailer? advertisement for

2:09:18

DHL and Nissan The

2:09:21

companies I saw in the trailer I did

2:09:24

you know you gotta be you definitely have to be

2:09:26

a certain type of person British,

2:09:28

which is probably well No,

2:09:30

I'm into like a car Motor

2:09:33

sport is way bigger in the UK as well. Why

2:09:35

am I gonna see grand turismo when there's like a fast and

2:09:37

furious movie? I don't know. It's called wild speed

2:09:39

here. Thank you. No. What's the last one? It's like fire

2:09:41

squad or some shit like fires like

2:09:44

they keep changing the name. They're nuts every

2:09:45

time I thought it's always called wild speed fire

2:09:47

boost. I think the new ones called fire boost Wild

2:09:51

speed is in there somewhere. It's always like a sub now or something

2:09:53

But they change the name every time in Japan and they're always

2:09:56

nuts. It's great. Yeah, it's it's wild speed

2:09:58

fire. Yeah

2:09:59

And finally, we got Jim

2:10:02

Ryan came back, and he said, here are some new

2:10:04

devices, including the quickly rumored

2:10:06

and now real Project Q,

2:10:08

the PS Remote,

2:10:12

it's a switch, where the screen

2:10:14

is wedged between two DualSense controllers,

2:10:16

but there's no

2:10:17

touchpad. So maybe the whole screen

2:10:19

is a touchpad? Oh, that's

2:10:21

a good point. I didn't even notice that. I

2:10:23

was too busy thinking about how boring

2:10:26

it looks. But yeah, I

2:10:28

say that, and I'm still probably going to buy a

2:10:30

day one. But the remote, we

2:10:32

talked about this extensively when it was rumored, but the

2:10:34

remote play just needs to work. If it works, great.

2:10:36

If it doesn't work, this is going to be. It works.

2:10:39

No, I mean, I'm talking about on this device. Like,

2:10:41

it looks to me like. Oh, OK, OK. Because on a random

2:10:43

MacBook, it works just fine as long as your internet

2:10:46

is good enough. That's the thing. That's a big as

2:10:48

long as, though. Like, if your internet works, great.

2:10:50

If your internet doesn't

2:10:50

work, it's going to be a really unpleasant, unsung experience.

2:10:53

But the Project Q isn't going to fix your crummy

2:10:55

internet, the general unit. No, I know. I

2:10:58

know. But also, I was

2:11:00

a little, I guess I understand the design, but

2:11:03

thinking how sexy PSP and Vita were,

2:11:05

it just looks super generic to me. It looks like

2:11:07

they literally. Somebody sent a picture today of, I

2:11:09

think I showed Tina, like, you know that when you

2:11:11

put stuff together in Tears of the Kingdom, and is it

2:11:13

like green goo? Somebody showed the PlayStation controller's

2:11:16

green goo to a switch screen. That's basically

2:11:18

what it is. But yeah, we'll see. Maybe

2:11:20

it'll go the way of the boomerang controller of

2:11:23

the PS3. No, they're going to show. At this point, I think

2:11:25

it's coming. And they revealed the earbuds,

2:11:27

which I will be getting, because those

2:11:29

seem perfect for the PSVR2.

2:11:32

Because

2:11:34

I use the PlayStation headset

2:11:36

for when I use the VR, but it's

2:11:38

not a great fit. This solves that problem 100%.

2:11:41

But the PSVR2 comes with earphones built

2:11:43

in. Yeah, but I don't like them.

2:11:46

I

2:11:48

can't help you if I don't like them. If

2:11:52

they're under $200, I will get them. If

2:11:54

not, I'll have to think about it.

2:11:56

And then get them anyway. You

2:11:59

got some noise. So well, I'm so happy.

2:12:02

And then finally, closing out, we got an

2:12:04

extended gameplay trailer of Spider-Man 2,

2:12:06

which I was pretty met on, but hey, Venom

2:12:08

is here. Peter Parker shows up in

2:12:10

Venom's suit and all like, I'm talking aggressive!

2:12:14

Arrr! We gotta stop

2:12:16

them! You should have

2:12:18

really tried out for the voice acting. You know, Mark

2:12:21

won't answer my calls. I keep saying, hey,

2:12:23

I got permanent residency, just hand me a contract,

2:12:25

let's just do some work.

2:12:27

And he hasn't answered. Why

2:12:30

do you hate Spider-Man, Gabe? Uh,

2:12:34

man, I can't, why are you getting, we don't have time

2:12:36

for this, Tina. We don't have time for this. I

2:12:38

like Venom, Venom's cool. He's

2:12:41

from Queens, okay? I know Spider-Man 2, because

2:12:43

he's from Queens. I'm from Queens. I

2:12:46

know that game is gonna get hella gameplay in my

2:12:48

house. I will not have a television

2:12:51

for a long time, so I'm pretty intrigued by

2:12:53

that portable

2:12:53

gaming thing. Okay, go

2:12:56

ahead. It's not co-op. People were wondering

2:12:58

if it was gonna be two-player co-op. They

2:13:01

being either Sony or Insomnia came out and said,

2:13:03

nope! It's still single-player, but you'll

2:13:05

be able to switch between Miles and Peter Seamer.

2:13:08

Seemingly,

2:13:08

seamlessly? Seemingly

2:13:11

seamlessly, or perhaps only for set pieces. I don't

2:13:13

know. Maybe it'll be like GTA 5. Yes,

2:13:15

John?

2:13:16

No, I was just gonna say, as we were talking,

2:13:18

Nintendo, Japan announced

2:13:21

that they have a Tiers of the Kingdom

2:13:23

rubber key holder that

2:13:25

is now available for Platinum Points. Oh,

2:13:27

man. That's been out for a while. That's

2:13:29

not new. The key holder's not new? I don't

2:13:31

think so. They said it was new. It was like...

2:13:34

Oh, they said it was new. It must be. Anyway,

2:13:36

I was... Hang on, I gotta... I ordered the glow-in-the-dark

2:13:39

shirt. I'm excited about that. Wait.

2:13:41

Oh, I... It's like a long-sleeve shirt,

2:13:43

and the sleeve has

2:13:46

the print of the arm

2:13:48

stuff on it, and it glows in the dark.

2:13:49

Yeah, you just reminded me. I bought something

2:13:51

recently that I didn't know was glow-in-the-dark, and

2:13:53

my wife was like, hey, look, it glows in the dark. Was it the regular

2:13:55

Zelda

2:13:56

t-shirt? I think it might have been... I think that the regular one glows

2:13:58

too. I think it glows in the dark, yeah. know when

2:14:00

I bought it, but anyway,

2:14:02

I think that about... That's it. GPs

2:14:04

is chuckling by himself over there far enough

2:14:06

away from his mic that there's no evidence that he's chuckling

2:14:09

at us. Yeah. I don't know what you're

2:14:11

talking about. In other news, EU approved

2:14:14

the Microsoft Activision deal, which is interesting

2:14:16

because then UK went, no,

2:14:18

well, okay, but no,

2:14:21

and that's about it. That's because

2:14:23

it's running pretty late. Was that your

2:14:25

best British accent? No, we don't

2:14:27

want... Look, they like motorsport

2:14:29

there and they call it football.

2:14:32

They call it motorsport football? All

2:14:35

right. All right. I'm pretty

2:14:37

sure he's been hitting the bottles when we're

2:14:39

not... I'm really tired. I'm

2:14:41

on fumes right now, friends. Tight

2:14:44

one, before you run out of speed, yeah, tell

2:14:46

discussion that was happening on the Recetterer

2:15:20

2:15:22

there may or may not be an underscore.

2:15:24

There is an underscore, people, don't listen to him.

2:15:27

They won't tell you where it is, but it's there. Is

2:15:29

there a rival JP engine that you want

2:15:31

to redirect traffic to? There could be if you're

2:15:33

really up for it, yeah. How about you, John?

2:15:35

John TV, how about you, Tina?

2:15:37

Tina Butts with two T's and a Z. And

2:15:40

2:15:43

of the Kingdom 8-4 Play Podcasts.

2:15:46

I'm gonna go home and play right now. Same.

2:15:48

I thought I was gonna do the...

2:15:51

Well, I don't know if it's last, but the next

2:15:54

temple last night, and then I ended up going

2:15:57

to an item, an island that

2:15:59

I mentioned earlier. And I ended up spending the whole night on that island

2:16:01

doing cool stuff, but yeah, this game was so

2:16:04

god. It's so good I can't wait Yeah,

2:16:07

and I accidentally found out ice arrows will

2:16:09

give you ice platforms when you shoot them into

2:16:11

water

2:16:12

recently that's been around for a long I'm

2:16:19

gonna take three and we're

2:16:21

gonna go to the Goron City

2:16:23

this weekend so I can complete the final

2:16:26

temple What are we taking? What's what's take

2:16:28

three? Oh Already

2:16:33

forgotten about that and on that note Until

2:16:36

next time from two until two weeks

2:16:39

from now who would like to take

2:16:41

us out

2:16:57

Thanks for watching!
