I usually love Taberski's works, but this one just didn't grab me like his others. Interesting concept, but it kind of felt all over the place and not too impactful.

9/12 is a podcast that explores how 9/11 changed America. It does so, not by getting to the subject from one single narrative, but approaching it from different angles, with each episode exploring two unrelated, opposing stories. Although that loose approach with several disparate storylines paints a kaleidoscopic image, I feel this is not a weakness; it is what makes the podcast work. It gets to the core, that 9/11 and its aftermath never was just one thing that can be summarised in a single, easy to understand story. History is always more complicated, despite what some may prefer and as uncomfortable as it may perhaps be. As we've come to expect from Tabersky, each episode has a strong narrative arc. Even where the stories touch upon the more ugly, messy parts of the post-9/11 world, there's a mildness in tone, rather than the usual tendency to judge immediately. Sound engineering, and editing are according to Wondery's usual high standards, and the podcasts title track is aptly chosen. In all, I very much enjoyed listening to this podcast, and can certainly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the subject. It may even change your mind.
