Welcome to the 99 relapses podcast.
0:40
I'm your host, James an online
0:43
Christian recovery coach and counselor.
0:46
In today's devotional. I'll
0:48
be talking about Coping with Triggers.
0:52
Addiction can be a powerful force in our lives,,
0:55
and one of the biggest challenges we face is coping
0:57
with triggers that can lead to addictive
0:59
behaviors. Triggers
1:01
can come in many forms from people
1:03
and places to thoughts and emotions.
1:07
And when we are faced with a trigger, it
1:09
can feel like we are powerless to resist
1:11
the urge to use. But
1:14
the good news is that we don't have to give
1:16
in to our triggers. With God's
1:18
help, we can learn to identify and
1:20
cope with them in a healthy and constructive
1:23
way. In the book of
1:25
1 Corinthians 10:13,
1:28
it tells us. "The temptations
1:31
in our life are no different from what
1:33
others experience. And
1:35
God is faithful. He will not allow
1:37
the temptation to be more than you can stand.
1:41
When you are tempted, he will show you a way
1:43
out so that you can endure".
1:46
So, how do we identify and cope with triggers in our
1:48
lives? One way is to practice
1:50
mindfulness and self-awareness.
1:53
This means paying attention to our thoughts,
1:56
emotions and physical sensations.
1:59
And noticing when they start to shift
2:01
in a way that might lead to addictive behaviors.
2:04
Another important strategy is
2:06
to have a plan in place for coping with triggers
2:09
when they arise. This
2:11
might include reaching out to a trusted
2:13
friend or family member for support,
2:16
engaging in healthy coping
2:18
mechanisms like exercise, or simply
2:20
taking a moment to pause and pray for strength
2:22
and guidance. The
2:25
story of Jesus in the wilderness provides a powerful
2:28
example of how to cope with temptation
2:30
and triggers. When Satan tempted
2:33
Jesus with food, power
2:35
and fame. Jesus responded
2:37
by relying on the power of God's word
2:40
and the strength of his faith. By
2:43
turning to God for guidance and support,
2:46
Jesus was able to resist temptation
2:48
and emerge victorious. So
2:51
as you navigate the challenges of addiction and
2:53
cope with triggers in your life. I
2:56
encourage you to follow Jesus' example.
3:00
Rely on the power of God's word and
3:02
the strength of your faith to resist temptation
3:04
and overcome triggers. And
3:06
always, remember that God is faithful and will provide
3:09
a way of escape so that you may
3:11
be able to endure it. As
3:13
you work to overcome addiction triggers in your life,
3:16
I challenge you to lean on God's power
3:18
and wisdom to guide you through this journey.
3:21
Spend time in prayer and reflection,
3:24
seeking his guidance and strength to overcome
3:26
temptation and stay focused on your goals
3:29
of recovery and healing. Remember
3:32
that you're not alone in this journey and that God
3:34
is always with you, ready to
3:36
provide the help and support you need.
3:39
To overcome any challenge or obstacle.
3:41
So, trust in his power and love. And
3:44
stay focused on the path of recovery
3:46
and healing that he has set before you.
