Welcome to the 99Relapses podcast.
0:41
I'm your host, James Egidio an
0:43
online Christian recovery, coach
0:45
and counselor. In today's devotional.
0:47
I'll be talking about Renewing our Minds.
0:51
As Christians, we are called to renew
0:53
our minds and be transformed by the word
0:55
of God. This transformation
0:57
is not only a spiritual one,
1:00
but can also impact our behavior
1:02
and thought patterns, including those
1:04
associated with addiction. Addiction
1:07
can be a vicious cycle of negative thoughts
1:09
and destructive behaviors that can seem
1:11
impossible to break free from. But
1:14
through the renewing of our minds with the word
1:16
of God, we can change our perspective
1:19
and overcome these patterns. Romans
1:23
12:2 says, do not conform
1:25
to the pattern of this world. But
1:28
be transformed by the renewing of
1:30
your mind. Then you will be able
1:32
to test and approve what God's will
1:34
is his good pleasing
1:36
and perfect will. This verse
1:39
reminds us that we are called to be different
1:41
from the world. To not be controlled
1:43
by its patterns and ways of thinking. Instead,
1:46
we are called to transform our minds through
1:48
the word of God. One way
1:50
to start this renewal processes through
1:52
prayer and intentional study of the Bible.
1:56
In the book of Psalms 119:11,
1:58
it says, I have hidden your word in
2:00
my heart that I might not sin against
2:03
you. By meditating on God's
2:05
word and memorizing verses we can combat
2:07
negative thoughts and behaviors with the truth
2:10
of God's promises. Another
2:12
way to renew our minds is through accountability
2:14
and fellowship with other believers.
2:18
In the book of Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.
2:22
It says two are better
2:24
than one because they have a good return
2:26
for their labor. if either
2:28
of them falls down, one can help the
2:30
other up. But pity, anyone
2:33
who falls and has no one to help
2:35
them up. In recovery,
2:37
it can be easy to isolate ourselves and try to
2:39
do it all alone. But
2:41
having a support system of fellow believers
2:44
can be crucial in the renewal process.
2:47
Ultimately the goal of renewing our minds is to align
2:49
our thoughts and behaviors with
2:51
God's will for our lives and
2:54
the book of Philippians chapter four, verse eight,
2:56
it says. Finally
2:58
brothers and sisters. Whatever is
3:00
true. Whatever is noble, whatever
3:03
is right. Whatever is pure,
3:05
whatever is lovely. Whatever is
3:07
admirable. If anything
3:09
is excellent or praiseworthy
3:11
think about such things. When
3:14
we focus our minds on these things, we can overcome
3:17
negative thought patterns and destructive behaviors.
3:20
However, it's important to remember that renewing
3:22
our minds is a continual process,
3:24
not a one-time event. We
3:26
must consistently seek God's word
3:29
and renew our mind through it. Even
3:31
when we don't feel like it or when it's difficult.
3:34
So all those who are struggling with addiction, I challenge
3:37
you to renew your mind with God's truth.
3:40
Make intentional time to study the Bible
3:42
and meditate on its promises. Seek
3:44
accountability and fellowship with other believers
3:47
who can support you in this journey of
3:49
transformation. Remember,
3:51
God's truth has the power to overcome negative
3:53
thought patterns and destructive behaviors.
3:56
Let us strive to renew our minds daily
3:59
and trust in God's power to transform us
4:01
from the inside out. Thank
