0:37

Welcome to the 99 relapses podcast.

0:40

I'm your host, James Egidio, and

0:42

online Christian recovery coach, and counselor.

0:46

In today's devotional, I'll be talking about Cultivating

0:48

Contentment. In a world

0:50

that constantly bombards us with messages

0:52

of dissatisfaction and the pursuit of

0:54

more, cultivating contentment

0:56

can be a challenge. However,

0:59

as followers of Christ, we are called

1:01

to find our satisfaction in him

1:03

and to resist the temptations

1:05

of addiction. In this devotional,

1:07

let us explore the biblical perspective

1:10

on contentment and how it can help us navigate

1:12

the path of recovery. The

1:15

apostle Paul provides us with a powerful example

1:18

of contentment in Phillipians

1:20

4:11-13. Where

1:22

he says, "I have learned to be content,

1:24

whatever the circumstances. I

1:27

know what it is to be in need, and I know

1:29

what it is to have plenty. I have learned

1:31

the secret of being content in any and

1:34

every situation, where they're

1:36

well fed or hungry, whether living in

1:38

plenty or in want. I can do

1:40

all this through him who gives me strength."

1:43

Despite facing various trials and challenges,

1:46

Paul discovered the secret of contentment. Relying

1:49

on the strength and provision of Christ.

1:52

Contentment does not come from external circumstances,

1:55

but from our internal posture and reliance

1:57

on God. As we walk

1:59

the path of recovery, it is crucial to understand

2:02

that addiction often stems from a deep

2:04

sense of discontentment. We may have

2:06

sought relief in substances or destructive

2:09

behaviors to fill the void within us. However

2:12

true contentment can only be found in our relationship

2:14

with God. In Psalm

2:16

107:9 declares

2:19

for he is satisfies the thirsty and fills

2:21

the hungry with good things." The

2:23

fulfillment and satisfaction we long for can

2:25

only be found in God who abundantly

2:28

provides for our needs. Contentment

2:30

does not mean complacency or settling for less

2:32

than God's best for our lives. Rather,

2:35

it's an attitude of gratitude and then trusting

2:37

God's perfect plan. In Hebrews

2:40

13:5. It reminds us,

2:42

keep your lives free from the love of money and

2:44

be content with what you have. Because

2:47

God has said never. Will I leave, you never

2:49

will. I forsake you." we

2:51

can find contentment and knowing that God is with

2:53

us and will never abandon us,

2:55

regardless of our circumstances. He

2:58

is our ultimate source of security and satisfaction.

3:02

In our journey of recovery. We may encounter moments

3:04

of temptation, when the allure

3:06

of addiction tries to entice us back into its

3:08

grips. However, contentment

3:11

acts as a shield. Protecting

3:14

us from those temptations. In

3:16

1 Timothy 6:6

3:18

it states, but Godliness

3:21

with contentment is great gain". When

3:24

we prioritize our relationship with God

3:26

and find our contentment in Him, we

3:28

gain the strength to resist the empty promises

3:31

of addiction. Our focus

3:33

shifts from seeking temporary relief to embracing

3:35

the enduring joy and peace that only come

3:37

from God. Contentment

3:39

also opens our eyes to the blessings and beauty that

3:41

surround us. We learned to appreciate

3:44

the simple things in life and to find joy

3:46

in God's creation. And

3:48

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

3:51

Paul instructs us to "Rejoice always,

3:54

pray, continually give thanks in all

3:56

circumstances. This is God's

3:58

will for you in Christ jesus. By

4:01

cultivating a heart of gratitude and contentment.

4:03

We develop a perspective that recognizes

4:05

the goodness of God, even in the midst of

4:07

challenges. Let us challenge ourselves

4:09

to cultivate contentment in our lives.

4:12

Embrace the truth that God's

4:14

love and provision are sufficient for

4:16

us. Resist the allure of

4:18

addiction by finding our satisfaction

4:20

in Him. Open our hearts to gratitude

4:23

and celebrate the blessings. God has bestowed

4:25

upon us. As we choose contentment,

4:28

we will find the strength to persevere.

4:30

Joy in the journey, and

4:33

the ability to risk the temptations that may come

4:35

our way. May we continually seek

4:37

God's presence, and find contentment

4:40

in His love, and experience the freedom

4:42

that comes from living a life rooted in him.

4:45

I want to challenge you to cultivate contentment

4:47

in your lives by seeking God's presence and finding

4:49

your satisfaction in Him. In

4:51

a world that constantly encourages us to chase after

4:53

more and never be satisfied. Let us choose a different

4:55

path. Take a moment to reflect

4:58

on your life and the areas where you may be struggling with

5:00

Discontentment. Is

5:02

it in material, possessions, relationships,

5:04

or in the circumstances of your recovery journey?

5:07

Whatever it may be, surrender those areas to

5:09

God and ask him to help you find contentment

5:11

in Him alone. Challenge yourself

5:14

to practice gratitude daily, make

5:16

a conscious effort to count your blessings.

5:18

Both big and small, and express gratitude

5:21

for God for them. Start a gratitude

5:23

journal. Or simply take a few minutes

5:25

each day to thank Him for His provision

5:28

and faithfulness in your life. When

5:31

you find yourself longing for more or

5:33

comparing yourself to others. Refocus

5:36

your thoughts on God's love and faithfulness.

5:39

Remember that he is always with you and his plans

5:41

for your good. Trust in His timing

5:43

and his provision, knowing that He will

5:45

meet your needs, according to His perfect

5:47

plan. Thanks for
