Hello,

0:00

everyone, and welcome to a cast of

0:02

kings, an unofficial recap podcast

0:04

about the HBO original series House

0:07

of The Dragon. I'm

0:09

David Chen, and I haven't read fire in blood.

0:11

The book on which House of Dragon is based.

0:14

And I'm Kim Renfro, and I have read

0:16

Fire and blood. The book upon which House of the Dragon

0:18

is based.

0:19

It took me a while to remember what the name of

0:21

the book. I was

0:23

like, which what's the name of the book? Anyway, Kim,

0:25

we are so out of practice right now.

0:29

But welcome back to the podcast

0:32

folks. Kim and I

0:34

wanted to get together because Kim has recently

0:36

attended a massive

0:40

monumental event of the Game of Thrones universe.

0:43

Which is I believe the title

0:45

of this event is Game of Thrones

0:47

official fan convention. That is

0:49

the name of the event. And

0:52

so we wanted to hop on the mic

0:54

and and talk about that with you. I I did

0:56

say, you know, in our last episode that Intermittently

0:59

throughout the year, we'll be recording bonus episodes

1:01

to make sure that it's worthwhile

1:03

for you to say subscribe to this podcast. So here we

1:05

are again. With a new episode of

1:07

Castikings. Of course, you can always find more

1:10

episodes of this podcast at acastikings

1:12

dot com, email us at acastikings at

1:14

gmail dot com, and find us on YouTube and

1:16

TikTok at acastikings.

1:20

So we are gonna talk about

1:22

what Kim learned and saw at

1:25

Game of Thrones official fan convention.

1:28

And I also wanna mention that

1:31

in the next week or two,

1:34

Kim and I have already recorded

1:37

a a review of eighteen ninety nine

1:39

season one, and I'll be posting

1:42

that conversation, which also included

1:44

my wife, Joy, that

1:46

will be posted at decoding TV or will post a

1:48

preview here on the caskings feed. So you can look

1:50

forward to that as well. More more

1:52

Kim and, you know, a

1:54

desert of Kim and David content, and

1:56

now all of a sudden, plethora, truly

1:59

when it rains the pores. Indeed. So

2:01

Game of Thrones official fan

2:04

fan invasion. First of all, love

2:06

the name. It rolls true.

2:09

Rules trippingly off the tongue. Uh-huh.

2:11

And then when you go to the website, it says

2:13

convention is coming, which

2:16

I just think is hilarious. Yeah.

2:18

It's a threat. It's pretty

2:21

it's pretty clunky. I mean, of course,

2:24

this is They have

2:26

referred to this as on the website the

2:29

Ultimate Game of Thrones official fan

2:31

convention. They also called the first officially

2:34

licensed fan convention, which

2:36

commemorates HBO's iconic and world renowned

2:38

series Game of Thrones. Now, obviously, Game

2:40

of Thrones for you and I have attended Unofficial

2:44

Game of Thrones convention, Carter Thrones. Mhmm.

2:47

And so this

2:50

is a little bit of a latecomer, but, hey, they find

2:52

you know, let's not harp on the fact that they're

2:54

late. Let's celebrate that they arrive to the party

2:56

at all. Uh-huh. And

2:59

so you attended as a guest of convention.

3:01

And, like, it was

3:03

it ran over the course of, like, three days. Is that right?

3:05

Tell us what the setup was like.

3:07

Yeah. It was Friday to the Sunday here

3:10

in Los Angeles where I live, so I was

3:12

just lucky that I it

3:14

was relatively last minute that I got

3:16

myself the press pass and got all confirmed

3:19

and then just, you know, went and hung out at

3:21

the convention center for the weekend

3:23

for work and not a bad way to spend my time.

3:25

It was pretty fun. Yeah.

3:27

This was I wasn't sure what to expect

3:30

in terms of, like, attendance. They

3:32

dropped the schedule pretty late on, like,

3:34

Thursday night, so I wasn't even sure,

3:36

like, what the order of operations here was

3:38

gonna be. But they did have We should

3:40

and we should point out that's, like, and we should point

3:42

out that's, like, weird. Like, usually, a

3:45

convention will give you the schedule, like,

3:47

a couple weeks in advance at least so people can, like

3:49

because some people are, like, flying in. They're getting

3:51

hotels. Like, maybe they only wanna see

3:53

one panel, you know, so, like,

3:55

it's weird to release the thing, like,

3:57

right before the the convention. But

3:59

Yeah. Like,

3:59

we weren't sure who was gonna be on which

4:02

days. And then, of course, it was revealed that

4:04

Kit Harrington, who was probably the biggest

4:06

name that they had

4:08

on the guest lineup. He

4:10

was, like, you

4:11

know, the closing panel Sunday at four

4:13

o'clock. And I was, like, yep.

4:14

Great. Staying all weekend for kids.

4:16

i prefer

4:18

Yeah. So it was it wound

4:21

up being unlike Con of Thrones, which I

4:23

feel like had I wanna say minimum

4:25

three different panel options you could go

4:27

to for every time slot. Like,

4:29

they have the big stage where, like, the

4:31

cast or or some of, like, crew

4:33

and folks would be interviewed. But

4:36

then, like, they have those smaller breakout rooms that,

4:38

like, I myself would moderate panels on,

4:40

like, just the costumes, and it would be like

4:42

me and my PowerPoint of costumes,

4:44

like, nerding out. So this didn't

4:46

have that. It was really just the main

4:48

haul with the cast cycling in and

4:50

out for different either individual or group

4:52

interviews on stage. And

4:55

then upstairs, there was, you know, a

4:57

little, like, merch booth

5:00

area that was all just, like, various

5:03

official either, like,

5:05

artisan, you know, collector's

5:07

items stuff. There was a little corner

5:09

that had some of the props from the

5:10

show on display that you could look at and stuff.

5:12

And,

5:13

yeah, it was kinda low key, but

5:15

nice. And it

5:17

was a mix. It's not it's called

5:20

Game of Thrones fan convention, but they also

5:22

had a good house of the dragon mix

5:24

in there too. So I think that the intention is

5:26

for it to become the all encompassing everything

5:29

that takes place in Westeros, and that's in

5:31

George R. Martin's universe

5:32

will be included. FYI,

5:34

it's not called Game of Thrones fan

5:36

convention. It's official fan convention. Do you say that

5:38

again? I'm so sorry. Game of

5:40

Thrones official. Official fan Convention.

5:44

Convention. Yeah. Make sure please make sure you use the

5:46

full title every time. Thank you. COT OFC.

5:51

Got off. Yeah. That's right.

5:53

So, Kim, you had a chance to see a number

5:55

of panels

5:58

with, you know, like, I guess, it's just one panel.

6:00

One long running

6:02

panel. But Matthew

6:04

Needham, who plays Laris, was one of the panels

6:06

you saw. And you actually got to ask him a

6:08

question. Yeah. But yeah.

6:10

So go ahead. Like, how how was that panel?

6:13

It

6:13

was great. So he he was on Saturday.

6:15

And with you

6:17

know, between kind of Thrones and then

6:19

other, you know, I've I've never been to Sandio

6:21

comic con, but I've watched videos of all, like, the

6:23

panels and stuff. You're never really sure what,

6:25

like, the energy

6:26

of an actor is gonna be,

6:28

like, on a stage like that.

6:29

So, yeah, Matthew Needham was

6:31

one of the unknowns to me.

6:33

And he came out and just, like, had

6:36

thoughtful answer after thoughtful answer

6:39

to to questions that were coming up. He

6:41

seemed to, like, really have spent

6:43

time mulling over Larry's and his various

6:45

motivations and his familial relationships

6:48

within the world. And I think that's always fun

6:50

for a show like this. We're, like, you

6:52

know, obviously because of the time skips and

6:54

everything, we didn't get to spend a lot of time

6:56

with each individual characters. So it's almost

6:58

like you're getting color added

7:00

to these people via, like, what the actors

7:02

say they think about in their performances

7:04

or

7:04

have talked to the directors or whatnot

7:07

about. Right.

7:07

So, yeah, at one point, I saw that the

7:09

question line was empty. But

7:11

by my clock, we still had, like, ten,

7:13

fifteen minutes of his time. So I was, like, you know

7:15

what? I'm just gonna hop up there.

7:17

Yes. As long as I live,

7:19

I want to live, Kim said.

7:22

I I said Yolo

7:23

and went right up there into the microphone,

7:26

asked,

7:27

him. I tried to phrase

7:29

it very carefully. I was like, you know what?

7:32

There have been

7:32

a lot of important conversations taking

7:35

place in front of this weirwood tree

7:37

and, like, I didn't use

7:39

the term blood

7:39

rat, but I was basically going

7:42

at

7:43

the fact that you know, I

7:46

I subscribed to this somewhat

7:48

theory that there seems to be a connection

7:50

between Lara's and, like, the weirwood

7:52

and the more magical aspects of the show

7:54

that I feel was kind of intentional.

7:58

So I asked if he could talk about,

8:00

like, what he knew about Larry's

8:02

being potentially connected to those magical

8:04

aspects of George's story.

8:07

And up until this point, he had really,

8:09

like, answered every question, not

8:12

a lot of, like, dodging or whatever.

8:14

And the first thing he said was,

8:16

well, I can't

8:17

comment or, like, my

8:19

can whatever.

8:21

So I yeah. There

8:22

was, like, a little the people who

8:24

knew in the room all kind of, like, made a

8:26

face thing, like, wait, what do you mean? Like,

8:28

we

8:29

thought you'll just The idea being that yeah.

8:31

The idea being that there'll probably be some supernatural

8:34

elements to Lara's story.

8:35

Or that there's just something

8:38

that I did hit upon something

8:40

that he knows

8:42

something expect about whether or not

8:45

it's that

8:45

Lara's himself is a magical being or

8:47

just that, like, that piece

8:50

of the world might come up in

8:52

season two. We know that they're

8:54

prepping for season two right now. All the

8:56

scripts have been written. I don't know if the cast

8:57

has read them or not yet. But

9:01

Yeah. It was

9:01

just interesting. And then he sort of talked a little

9:04

bit about, like, he

9:06

said, like, either Larry is,

9:08

like, a magical mission tree figure

9:10

or just a random creep and, like,

9:13

maybe it's somewhere in the middle of there.

9:15

So, yeah, that was just an interesting

9:17

little moment. And then even outside of

9:19

that, he had some insights into

9:22

stuff like the relationship with Allison that

9:24

I thought was really interesting. Because

9:27

obviously the foot thing came up.

9:29

And she really What do

9:29

you what do you hate to say about the foot thing?

9:32

Yeah.

9:32

So I think someone kind of

9:34

asked or they talked about the fact

9:36

that, like, if he thinks that it's

9:38

connected to the fact that Larry has

9:40

that, like, his nickname, his club foot and

9:42

he was born, with

9:44

-- Mhmm. -- not

9:47

to side by side little

9:49

feet the way that Alison's were on

9:51

that couch. And

9:53

he said that he did not think of it

9:55

so much as connected to that, but

9:57

instead, like,

10:00

he he found a way

10:03

to make

10:04

Alison feel, like,

10:07

shameful in front of him without

10:10

having to touch her

10:11

and that,

10:12

like And he and he, like, gets off on

10:14

the shame? Is that kinda

10:15

Yeah. And that he, like,

10:17

that

10:19

the idea that he's making her

10:21

body the scene of the

10:23

assault

10:25

itself like, he got very,

10:27

like, deep in meta about, like,

10:29

I'm taking away her comfort

10:31

in her own body. Because

10:34

now every time she looks at her feet,

10:36

like, she's like, that's the connection

10:38

that she has now is that, like, she's

10:40

actually powerless to this man

10:42

who has successfully

10:45

manipulated her into being

10:48

under his thumb a little bit. Well,

10:51

that is incredibly fucked

10:53

up.

10:53

I have to say -- Oh, yeah. -- a good

10:56

but a good answer. And it's always so

10:58

impressive, like, you know, you see we see

11:00

Lara's on screen for, like, fifteen minutes

11:02

or whatever, this whole season. Right? But,

11:04

like, obviously, as an actor, like, they've

11:06

put many times, they've put so much thought

11:08

into, like, all the stuff that goes

11:10

by in the performance. And it's lovely I'm I'm

11:12

not saying it didn't come out in in the fifteen, you

11:14

know, however, how much time he's on screen,

11:16

but, like, Yeah. It's always cool to hear from them directly

11:18

about what it is. So yeah. Yeah.

11:20

He

11:20

also gave a cool

11:22

insight. You know me? I love my little details

11:24

and meta is happening on the

11:26

screen. And do you remember when Larry was

11:28

first talking to, like, younger Alison, like

11:30

Emily Carey Alison in the Godswood,

11:32

and he was telling her

11:34

about this flower that had managed to

11:36

bloom outside of its, like,

11:38

native habitat. Mhmm.

11:40

So

11:42

that he, like, he he gives that little flower

11:44

speech. And then what he pointed out that I

11:46

hadn't noticed is that then in

11:48

the time jump ahead, when

11:51

Allison is all upset because she's

11:53

understanding that he's killed his

11:55

family and that he's, like, trying to

11:57

imply that she asked him to

11:59

do that. He said that he has the

12:01

flower again. That that flower again is in

12:03

her room, which I had noticed. But he was

12:05

like, it's a cut it's like a cutting

12:07

from that tree. So he's

12:09

taken this thing that had managed or, like,

12:11

was flourishing in another

12:13

place, and he's cut it and put it in a

12:15

pot. And, like, is now

12:17

like,

12:17

controlling it and has made

12:20

it smaller and more constrained.

12:23

Right. Yeah. This is so, like, messed

12:25

up, you know. But -- Yeah. -- it's

12:27

good. It's, you know, it's good. It's

12:29

it's appropriate. It's the Game of Thrones, you know.

12:31

Yeah. It's the dragon. So yeah. Yeah.

12:33

So really good

12:34

panel. I really I I again

12:36

didn't really know what to expect out of out

12:38

of hearing his his insights,

12:40

and it was really I really liked

12:42

getting more depth on his character.

12:45

You

12:45

also had a chance to see Jack Gleeson, the

12:48

guy who plays Jeffrey,

12:50

Gang Gleeson is thirty years

12:52

old now. And in many

12:54

of modern photos he has a mustache, you know, we

12:56

think of him as, like, the in annoying

12:59

and murderous boaking

13:01

from Game of Thrones, but he's

13:03

a dude. He's like a full blown adult

13:05

now. Yeah. And hasn't

13:07

really spoken that much about his experiences making

13:09

Game of Thrones. So it must have

13:11

been a treat to see him at this at this

13:13

convention. Yeah. It

13:14

was great. He's always been one of the

13:16

actors that I'm like, I hope he's

13:18

doing okay. Like, that's a pretty,

13:21

like, intense iconic role to

13:23

take on when you're still

13:24

a kid. And yeah.

13:26

It's not only that, but, like, a lot of,

13:29

like, fans, quote

13:31

unquote, can can be like

13:33

like I remember like Anna Gunn

13:35

who plays like Walter White's

13:37

Oh, right. In breaking bad.

13:39

Like, got, like, death threats, you know, because of how

13:41

like, people hated that character so much. And I

13:43

have to imagine that, like, Jack

13:45

Gleeson probably also got some dose of

13:47

that because Joffrey is

13:49

such, oh, go ahead. He talked about

13:51

that and said that he doesn't,

13:53

which was really surprising to He

13:55

was like, I've never had a bad fan

13:58

interaction. Well,

13:59

that is like a story. No.

14:02

Well, then I then

14:04

once again, I may have underestimated the

14:07

misogyny inherent in our popular culture.

14:10

But You nailed it because, of

14:12

course, woman, character, and actor

14:14

who gets that. That that's what that's what I'm saying. It's

14:16

like I I assume that

14:18

because, like, Anna Gunn got

14:20

it, like, maybe Jack Gleeson would also

14:22

get it. But, like, because that character is way

14:24

more evil than that guy's character,

14:26

you know. So, like but, nope, that's not

14:28

enough for him to not that I want anything

14:30

bad to happen to him. I just thought it might. But I

14:32

know. But I hear that he said some positive fan

14:34

interactions. Yeah. Good

14:35

fan interactions. He was also

14:37

just funny. They put him on

14:39

a panel with

14:41

the actor who plays Aegon,

14:43

like the oldest version of Aegon that we

14:45

have now who was just crowned and

14:48

seeing them

14:49

play off each other about like -- Oh. --

14:51

oh, we're both like young blond

14:54

evil kings. It

14:57

was fun. That's

14:58

wonderful. Yeah. Yeah. Anything

15:01

else from the Jack Gleeson fell?

15:02

No. Okay.

15:04

Patty Considine.

15:07

Probably vMVP from House of

15:09

the Dragon season one, the

15:12

emotional core of the series he showed up there. That

15:14

must have been a big deal very exciting.

15:16

Right? Yeah. It

15:16

was great. He was getting like,

15:20

massive, like, rounds of applause,

15:22

people

15:22

at one point were cheering, like, me. Me.

15:26

Adam and he was kind of, like, soaking

15:28

it up. It's nice.

15:30

Yeah. Patty's really cool. Like, I

15:32

don't know how

15:32

much people have seen him outside of this

15:34

role. But, you know, he has, like, cropped

15:37

short salt and pepper hair.

15:39

He's very handsome. He wears, like, his

15:41

heavy big black boots. He's kind of

15:43

like a punk dude. And

15:45

he was just clearly,

15:46

like, having the time of his life getting to,

15:48

like, soak in

15:49

people having now seen the show.

15:51

Look, because he said that he was at San Diego comic

15:54

con, but that was before the show came. Out. So,

15:56

like, the audience reaction

15:58

wasn't there, obviously, but there's nothing

15:59

to

15:59

react to yet. Whereas, like, when

16:02

he came out first panel, like, they had

16:04

this little fake castle

16:06

facade with the doors that would swing open to

16:08

welcome someone on stage. And he

16:10

came out, like,

16:10

hunched over pretending to walk

16:13

with a cane and, like, everyone lost

16:14

it. So, yeah,

16:16

he told some cool stories about specifically that

16:19

scene because obviously people that came up a

16:21

lot in the fan questions. That

16:22

scene when he, like, walks through the throne

16:24

room -- Yeah. -- right -- Yeah. -- the front. Yeah.

16:26

Which he said he was nervous about it

16:29

and that he was initially gonna move

16:31

a lot fast and then for

16:33

whatever reason when

16:34

they called, you know,

16:37

what what do they call action? I

16:40

was like, when they called what? That's

16:43

What is the what is the word? It's go it's like

16:45

go, but it's something it's another way of

16:47

saying go. Anyway,

16:49

yes. He he made the choice

16:51

to go as

16:52

slowly as possible and

16:54

kind of, like, wanting to see how, like,

16:57

how uncomfortable well,

16:57

that would make -- Right. -- their people

16:59

in the room type of thing. And then the

17:02

moment, which they had talked this kind of came out

17:04

during all of the postmortem interviews,

17:06

but that the moment when his crown falls off and was

17:08

picked up again, and

17:10

Damon puts it back on his head was

17:12

improvised in part. Crown

17:14

wasn't supposed to fall and, like, Matt

17:16

Smith in the moment in that take

17:18

just did that. And

17:20

then what Patty revealed at this

17:22

panel was he was, like,

17:24

the director Greta was, like, totally

17:26

game for it. They thought of, like, keeping it

17:28

in, but he said that to ensure that

17:30

that improv stayed in, they then he

17:33

intentionally had the crown drop every

17:35

single time afterwards. So

17:37

that there wouldn't be a good cut where it

17:39

didn't happen.

17:39

Like, that was like an improv

17:41

that

17:41

him and Matt Smith both liked so

17:43

much that like, did everything

17:45

that they could to ensure. That reminds

17:47

me of I think it was, like, III

17:49

think it was, like, Zach Galvanakis once,

17:52

like, when he is recording one of his comedy

17:54

specials, would, like, remove articles

17:56

of clothing throughout the special so

17:58

that to make sure

17:59

that

17:59

they couldn't edit out any of, like,

18:02

the parts that he wanted to make sure Steve in the special. You know, I I

18:04

maybe use that call if I know. But yeah. That's that's funny

18:06

detail that basically, like,

18:09

they forced Yeah. Even though the

18:11

direction wasn't like you dropped the crown and blah blah blah,

18:13

they forced it to be in the show themselves. Yeah. It

18:15

just reminds you how much an actor brings

18:17

to the to the story. You know what I mean?

18:19

Yeah. When you when you have a good actor and

18:21

a good relationship between actor

18:23

and producer and director, that's

18:25

what they can bring to it. So Yeah. Any

18:27

other tidbits from that that

18:30

panel? Those were

18:31

my highlights for him. The only thing

18:33

I this was, like, one of the few things

18:36

I

18:36

posted online that people responded to, but he

18:38

kind of offhandily said that Raynira

18:41

is the Prince Harry

18:44

of that royal family and then did

18:46

not elaborate and kind of, like, made a

18:48

little, like, winky face at the audience.

18:50

audio law

18:51

And moved on. And

18:53

he kept talking he's clearly very

18:56

biased towards viserys',

18:59

like, Patty Considine seems like the kind of person who relates

19:01

to his character very deeply and I

19:03

think doesn't like saying that

19:05

he's done wrong

19:06

or, like, bad things and

19:08

kind of kept, like, implying

19:10

that Raynira was just, like, too stubborn

19:12

and that, like, she really should have just

19:14

done her duty. And I was like,

19:16

Mhmm. That's fine. You could

19:18

have that opinion. Patty constant, but

19:21

You're like Maybe you have that opinion. Here on a

19:23

cast of kings podcast. So we we

19:25

we think and talk differently about that subject.

19:27

So But so then

19:28

when he was like, she's the prince Harry, I was

19:30

like, well, then what do you think of prince

19:32

hairy.

19:35

And

19:36

I don't know. So if anyone ever sees

19:38

paddy constantly in real life, ask him to

19:40

elaborate on that. Yeah. Yeah.

19:43

And finally, Kim, you had a chance

19:45

to see Kit Harrington the

19:47

the closer of the the

19:49

convention or Game

19:51

of Thrones official fan convention. And,

19:54

you know, Kit Harrington is one of the

19:56

people who they've announced a a potential spin

19:58

off with, so big deal

19:59

as well. There. My

20:02

guess is nothing about the spin off was

20:04

disclosed. Right? Nope. Very

20:05

buttoned

20:06

up. Apparently, I saw I saw this happen

20:08

and maybe some of the folks listening might

20:11

have noticed this too. HBO uploaded

20:13

a, like, the life of

20:15

John Snow video to their YouTube channel

20:17

on, like, Friday or something.

20:19

Or Thursday and people were like, oh my god, they must

20:21

be getting ready to

20:24

announce this. Yeah. Yeah. And

20:26

I would've I just really would've I would've

20:28

been very surprised if they had actually

20:30

confirmed it was happening. Because

20:32

it's just as far as we know, it's in development,

20:34

as well as, like, ten plus

20:36

other ideas. And I just I

20:38

would be surprised if they go straight to

20:40

that

20:40

sequel next as opposed to doing

20:43

one more house

20:45

of the dragon season? Or -- Yeah.

20:47

-- at least. Yeah. I think

20:49

also, like, you you and I, like, have

20:51

a sense of, like,

20:54

typically, I'm just gonna throw this out there. Typically,

20:57

when

20:57

they

20:58

announce a show or when

21:00

it's gonna premiere or what the title of

21:02

the show is, they have shot, I'm gonna put out their

21:04

one frame of film. Yeah. And

21:08

so as far as what we know, it's

21:10

not in production yet. Right? Like, it's still in production. Oh, yeah. It's

21:12

not even

21:12

guaranteed that they're gonna shoot

21:15

anything on film. They haven't greenlit a

21:17

pilot yet. Yeah. They HBO

21:19

themselves, I believe, have yet to

21:21

publicly comment on it. We

21:23

only have, like,

21:25

reports

21:26

from James Hibbert at the Hollywood reporter and

21:28

then a blog from George r Martin where he

21:30

confirms that it

21:31

is an idea on the

21:33

table. But HBO, I believe, has still declined

21:35

to comment. So, yeah, we just

21:37

don't know. So, yeah, unsurprisingly,

21:40

there was no breaking news about

21:42

that. Someone asked

21:44

Christopher Hugu who played

21:46

Toromond about it at one

21:48

point, and he just kind he just did

21:50

the usual I don't I don't know

21:52

anything about it, which could very well be

21:54

true or could just be early

21:56

talks. And then, yeah, kit didn't

21:58

say anything, but they did play a very

22:00

lengthy, like, here's

22:02

the entire character arc of John

22:04

Snow video before he came out

22:06

on stage. So part of me was like, that's why HBO just

22:08

uploaded that thing because someone

22:10

made this montage anyways,

22:13

I think, for this convention, and then they

22:14

were, like, might as well. Might as well throw

22:17

it on YouTube. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.

22:19

Nice. Still that Still the convo. About

22:21

Game of Thrones a little bit more maybe.

22:23

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're like,

22:25

well, we spent fifty thousand dollars on

22:27

this, like, edit of Johnson's work. Like,

22:29

we might as well for the con. Like, we

22:31

might as well put it on your tape. Yeah. So We

22:33

we employ a person to do

22:36

that. So Or pay or pay the contractor. But yeah.

22:38

Or pay the contractor. Yeah. So so how

22:40

is the panel overall? Like, any any kind

22:42

of insights or takeaways from the keterica panel?

22:44

Yeah. It was

22:45

just really nice

22:47

to see him I think,

22:50

enjoying the Game of Thrones spotlight

22:52

again. I think that I've

22:54

never interviewed him directly, but, you

22:56

know, I've watched a lot of his

22:58

Talk show appearances and read all the profiles

23:00

and stuff. And it just seems like the ending of

23:02

that show was, like, particularly tough

23:05

on him. As it was for many of

23:07

the cast members saying goodbye to everything. So

23:10

it was it was

23:12

cool to see him sort of like

23:14

relaxed and seemed

23:17

very confident. He at one point, you

23:19

know, like, made a very reassuring comment to

23:21

everyone about, like, I think that the way

23:23

that the show ended was right, but

23:25

it's totally understandable if

23:28

you didn't. And, like,

23:30

that's, you know, that's how opinion like,

23:32

a very, like, gentle

23:35

hey, I get it if that really didn't land for

23:37

you, but I think it was right for my character

23:39

kind of response, which I

23:41

appreciated as opposed to, like, the

23:43

the line that some of the

23:45

cast used, which is like, oh, well, no one's gonna

23:48

be happy at the end. Like, you're not you can

23:50

never please anyone, you know,

23:52

feels a little bit more dismissive

23:55

of the response

23:57

sometimes, but I

23:59

don't know.

23:59

So, yeah, kit seemed

24:02

like, happy

24:03

to be reflecting on it, knowing that

24:06

he's in he's participating in this

24:08

development of, like, snow

24:10

prequel. It was kind of cool to see him in that

24:12

head space of, like, reflecting

24:14

on his character. He

24:16

did say that he I

24:18

think the thing that the news that everyone was

24:20

running with was, like, he talked a little bit about

24:22

John's ending arc and said,

24:24

like, Oh, John Snow's absolutely, like, traumatized

24:26

within an inch

24:27

of his life by the end

24:29

of that show. So, like, whatever he's

24:31

doing

24:31

next is not like, a

24:34

happy he didn't get a he

24:36

he was basically saying, like, he didn't get a

24:38

fully happy ending. He's going to be very

24:41

tormented, still over having killed.

24:43

Daenerys and made that

24:45

choice not knowing if it was

24:47

the right thing to do.

24:51

And yeah, he talked a

24:53

lot about Rose Leslie, his

24:56

wife, and the actor who played Geiger,

24:58

his on screen love, which was

25:00

really sweet. They're they're relatively private about their

25:02

relationship. We know that they had a

25:04

kid last year. Mhmm.

25:06

He said Amelia Clark lives down the

25:09

street and comes over all the time and plays with the

25:11

kid and that her and Rose Leslie

25:13

are, like, the best of friends and

25:15

that that's a bond that's really lasted after

25:17

the show, which was suite to

25:19

hear. Yeah. Nice.

25:22

yeah Yeah. I'm trying

25:24

to think of what Well,

25:26

it it basically seems like the show,

25:28

like, making Game of Thrones is rough on him, but that,

25:30

obviously, he's in a way better space now. Like, that's

25:32

why he's willing to potentially even consider going back

25:34

to that world. Yeah. And and

25:37

obviously got some really wonderful things out of the

25:39

show. Yeah. BKA, international

25:41

fans, and also a

25:44

lot of wonderful times. Yeah. Yeah. There we

25:46

go. He's very cute. And, yeah,

25:48

he

25:48

said that season two

25:51

someone I was there with some

25:54

other folks. And the history of Westeros

25:56

YouTube team was there too. And, like, they

25:58

pulled out he someone asked

26:00

him his favorite season for John Snow. And I

26:03

believe he said season two. And

26:07

my, like, little brain kinda perked up

26:09

when he said that. Because I he said he was like, I think that

26:11

season's really underrated because by the time you

26:13

get to three in the red wedding and --

26:15

Mhmm. -- all these other more, like, flashy

26:17

things happen, but I have also noticed that on

26:19

my rewatch that, like, season two is a

26:21

lot stronger than I think

26:23

people give it credit for. And

26:25

that's the season that, like, really builds

26:27

John up into his, like, peak

26:29

emotional conflict and, like, meeting

26:31

the Free folk and meeting Yigrit, and that

26:33

coming into conflict with his duty,

26:35

and the wall, and the magic, and all that stuff. And

26:37

I was like, it's cool to know that he also

26:40

that, like, that is what stuck with him about

26:42

his character, not, you know,

26:44

the battle of the bastard season or,

26:46

like, all of the bigger, flashier

26:48

battle stuff, but the -- Mhmm. -- all

26:50

the beyond the wall stuff, which again, if

26:52

we're thinking about what that sequel might look

26:55

like. I think it's cool to know that

26:57

that's

26:57

what's on his mind.

26:58

Cool.

26:59

Alright.

27:00

Well, really appreciate the update, Kim. It

27:02

sounds like you had a great time at Game of

27:05

Thrones official fan convention. It

27:06

was fun. And

27:08

of course, you can hear

27:10

Kim and I talk about eighteen ninety nine

27:12

over on the decoding TV podcast feed,

27:14

we'll post a preview here on a Cass

27:16

King's sometime in the next week or two.

27:18

But can run for a

27:20

hey.

27:20

Hey, by the way, anything

27:22

else

27:23

you wanted to mention about a Game of Thrones

27:25

or House of the Dragon that we didn't get to say in our

27:27

last few episodes because now is a good opportunity

27:29

for that. Well, we're here. No. I'm

27:31

big I'm big vicky. Just that, you know, you know,

27:33

you you don't see anything. Wrapping

27:34

my break label. And I was like, what

27:36

does he get it out? What did a nice

27:38

say? No. No. No. I twist I

27:40

was like, what did we

27:41

what have we done?

27:43

If

27:43

people if if people

27:46

want to find your work in the

27:48

meantime until the next season of House of

27:50

Dragon, where can people find it

27:52

online? Insider
