The "Moz and Jo" show is finally here - two out of three eager and willing business partners and friends who set up a music video production company in the 1990's at a time when Australia was in the "recession we had to have" - welcome to Perpetual Motion Pictures. Between the two, they were responsible for a bunch of music videos made in the 90's, and have many a story to tell of behind the scenes with some very famous names. Take the road down memory lane with a brief music history lesson on the times of MTV, (history was made when MTV, the first 24-hour video music channel, launched onto our television sets and literally changed our lives with the birth of the music video), music videos exploding into the world and influencing record sales instead of radio, radio stars becoming behind the times (Radio stars were dying by the dozen because no longer did the audience rely on them for entertainment and music. Radio DJ’s were being replaced by MTV VJ’s and they needed to be TV presentable and savvy, unlike many of radio stars of that era. You may have heard the saying "they have a good head for radio!"), the most popular radio being AM existed (still does!), mobile phones were bricks......welcome to the 90's and the world of Australian music and music videos. These mini feature films became the springboard for a number of Aussie directors to Hollywood and beyond, and Jo and Moz were in the thick of it. Moz, a well known music video editor of the time, edited over 100 music videos with the likes of some of Australia’s most successful directors today. Jo, an up and coming Producer, as a Production Assistant got a taste into the world of music videos and Hollywood with an international pop star and a Hollywood Blockbuster director.
There's name dropping by the bucket load, international pop stars, Hollywood directors and a radio star of the 90's turned tv producer. And Jo officially lays claim to the title of the pioneering Queen of the start of the selfie.
Here's the 30th anniversary story of the birth and humble beginnings of Perpetual Motion Pictures.
