Michael Carrel is a Nationwide lifer, having joined Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company in 1995 after completing his BS in computer science from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and working at the company while completing his MBA from the University of Dayton. He initially held various positions in Property and Casualty Claims Solutions for the Office of the Enterprise CIO, and Corporate Internet Solutions at the company's Columbus, OH headquarters. He was named to his first VP position in 2009 as VP, Integrated Application Services. In 2013 he began his position as VP, Technology Solutions and Retirement Plans business where he was responsible for all technology solutions supporting Nationwide's Retirement Plans business, including its private and public sector businesses. Carrel began his current position in March 2016 as SVP and CIO for the Enterprise Applications portfolio. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
