Hanif Kureishi is a playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker, and novelist. He is best known for his play "My Beautiful Laundrette," written in 1985.Kureishi started his writing career in the 1970s by writing pornography under the pseudonyms "Antonia French" and "Karim." He became a screenwriter, writing plays for the Hampstead Theatre, Soho Poly, and the Royal Court. His first novel, "The Buddha of Suburbia," was published in 1990 and won the Whitbread Award for the best first novel.
