Every year in Alaska thousands of older Alaskans, perhaps tens of thousands of older Alaskans are the victims of neglect, abuse or abandonment by their caregivers; exploitation by family members or acquaintances; or undue influence by those around them trying to get control over their property and wealth. These are common stories and we will hear some of them today. We'll find out what we can do when we suspect that our loved ones, friends, or neighbors are victims.
This is an interview with Kelda Barstad, Adult Protective Services Manager, whose program is located in the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. The interview was conducted March 9, 2016, in the Anchorage offices of Adult Protective Services.
