I first met Rene at Durango Song Expo, then we happened to see each other at our favorite coffee roaster in Denver, Kaladi Coffee where we both worked using their great wifi and well-crafted, air-roasted caffeinated delicacies. Rene has a songwriter residency at The Molecule Effect in Denver, and, as promotional luck would have it, I will be playing a song swap with him at The Molecule Effect this Friday, so please join us for some great coffee, wine, beer and some great original tunes. It’s almost as if the timing of this broadcast was planned. Rene’s music can best be described as ”heady folk for the open-hearted.” He says he stands on the shoulders of his greatest influences (Jackson Browne, The Beatles, Billy Joel) and writes lyric driven songs and singable melodies that fit right into your favorite playlist alongside Josh Ritter, Jeff Tweedy, and The Avett Brothers.
He’s been featured in 303 magazine’s “Music You Should Know” and was a finalist in the 2020 Ullrgrass Troubador Contest.
A self-described “late bloomer”, is hellbent on catching up with his own songwriting ambitions. Over the last decade, Moffatt has taken his latent knack for songwriting and turned it into a full-fledged pursuit manifesting into a handful of notable releases. His debut EP, Here And Now Is Home, was nominated for “Folk/Contemporary Album of the Year” by the Washington Area Music Association (D.C.). And the song “Demons On Your Sleeve” was given an Honorable Mention by the Songwriters Association of Washington. While residing in the nation’s capital, Moffatt performed at notable venues including IOTA Club And Cafe, The Hamilton, and The Smithsonian’s Luce Center.
