There are fifty-one bridges in Alger County. Fourteen percent are in poor condition, 53 percent are fair and 33 percent are rated in good shape. A bridge listed in poor condition does not necessarily mean it is unsafe. But it does mean the bridge needs attention. This year, the state transportation department is set to begin a pilot program to repair, replace or remove some locally owned bridges. There are 2 bridges in Alger County that are part of the project.
