We needed to get this conversation

0:10

started. Then

0:15

suble is, I'm messed up. I don't have

0:17

a voice that's push important people

0:19

in the city. If it ends, I

0:22

feel bad for the kids here. You have a lot to

0:24

prove, and you're always feeling like they don't believe

0:26

in you. Once you're painted as a bad guy

0:28

in the NBA, that's what you are. Sometimes

0:32

your emotions take control and eventually you kind

0:34

of turned into aggression. Sometimes

0:37

you gotta go through a storm to find

0:39

some sunshine. How do you think pieces accomplished

0:42

through war? Finishing

0:44

year, finish your heart, t

0:47

get time. The

0:50

lion looked us into the base and looked bad

0:53

fucking loved it. I

0:56

got nsam,

1:10

y'all, motherfuck

1:13

ship say

1:15

something, man, man see is motherfucker man

1:17

say something? Gonna

1:20

go board as show, y'all wake your gass up.

1:24

Yeah, y'all gotta stop smoking into

1:27

good before noon. That's what it is, y'all

1:29

smoking too much in out here. I can go outside and find

1:31

some mother motherfucker's come here and make noise and that man,

1:33

how y'all doing all

1:37

the motherfucker's smoke? Welcome y'all, man All

1:40

Star two thousand twenty coming to you

1:42

like it's our first live show, so we up just keep

1:44

going with it. Y'all bought our first live show.

1:46

We appreciate y'all. Man, Yeah,

1:48

yeah, yeah, we appreciate you guys

1:50

taking time to come hang out with us

1:52

today. We're just gonna have fun, talk ship man to see

1:55

my brother. Look well here, the

1:57

hands are nice and fry. You're good, yeah,

2:00

shout out saying but she got from nice and drive.

2:02

It's just usually wet.

2:06

So we're out here, man, Like I said, All

2:08

Stars Chicago, it's an honor to be out

2:10

here. You know, it's cold as a motherfucker

2:12

out here. Man, it's

2:14

stopped my smoking. Take if I gotta smoke outside,

2:16

I'm not smoking. We just know I don't.

2:18

Don't say that. We're just gonna

2:20

limit the pumps to quit

2:22

up to six real quick. Yeah yeah, get out. But

2:26

anyway, man, without further ado, Man, I want

2:28

to introduce to me one

2:30

of the greatest power forwards ever to play the

2:32

game. Uh, And it's an

2:34

honor to have him or he went to high

2:36

school come back out here fun with us, so man, So everyone

2:39

welcome. Kevin Garnette want and only what's

2:43

up? What's

2:48

going on. Thank you brothers. Appreciated

2:51

everybody. It's going on

2:54

the mike, close to you. Get comfortable, Get comfortable.

2:56

Give it up one time, man, give it up

2:58

time. Man, have to pay the shop

3:01

man. It's the honor. Man. We appreciate you taking

3:03

the time to come funk with us for a little bit. Thank

3:06

you all for having me on hire man. I've been watching your joint.

3:08

Man, y'all getting better and better. I told you all this in

3:10

the back man. This ya got, y'all one man.

3:12

Appreciate it. I'm a huge fan man. But

3:14

also ship. Before we go, man, we want to welcome you to

3:16

the Showtime family. Congratulations, appreciate

3:19

that. Can

3:21

you explain to the crowd a little bit about what you're doing

3:23

with Showtime now? Yeah, show Tim and I are

3:25

teaming up, partner up during the twenty

3:27

five year decision on coming out of high school

3:29

and the effects that has gotten us today

3:31

into twenty You know, I'm telling the story

3:33

on how we got here. You know you watch,

3:36

um where do I start?

3:38

You're watching how the moves and how these kids are playing.

3:40

You're watching the styles and how they're dressing. You're watching

3:43

the swag. You you're hearing the music

3:45

all that came somewhere. So I'm taking

3:47

everybody and all these young millenniums on the timeline

3:50

like an educational piece almost, you know, So

3:52

who started this gangster ship? You bout show games,

3:55

but you know at some point it was a ripping it, you

3:57

know, like it went in a certain way and all of sudden it

3:59

change and it changed for a reason.

4:01

And and we're in that change. We've been in that change

4:04

you started because I came after you. I was after

4:06

you, was like a whole

4:08

momentum ship for all of us, and us

4:10

being in this so you know, I'm telling the

4:12

story and documented. So you got transators

4:14

and everything. Brott a little bit. So,

4:17

like you said, twenty five years removed from

4:19

Fairgate Academy, What what

4:21

went into your decision to Kylie

4:24

J? For me? You know what, man,

4:26

A lot of people don't know, Man, I had my I had. I

4:28

had a lot of responsibility when I was younger. Man,

4:31

No, not even not even that, but

4:34

just you know, helping moms out. You

4:36

know, I'm from South Carolina for everybody who don't

4:38

know. Um, And you know

4:40

you started working early there on that, you know, twelve

4:42

thirteen, So you know, I was used to

4:44

work and having a job early. So you know,

4:46

I got in trouble in high school and got kicked out

4:48

of school, and my mom shooting me up here

4:50

just to change up my whole environment and

4:52

you know, kind of get me back on the on the right road

4:55

a little bit. Um. I had a friend of the coach and camp

4:58

at a Nike camp and uh,

5:00

she just basically just threw me in here, you

5:03

know, just keeping to one hunted, you know, gotten

5:05

got out of mere way, dropped my bag, told me

5:08

take care of my little sister. So you

5:10

know, when I was going to these these college trips,

5:12

man, it was all about going to find assistant coach

5:14

to open the open the gym. It

5:16

was all about asking somebody for some permission

5:19

to do something. I'm thinking to

5:21

myself, Man, I'm living like I'm grown as hell

5:23

out here, like to ask

5:25

somebody to open the gym. Like it

5:28

just was. It just wasn't. It was no synergy

5:30

there for the love of the game and appreciation

5:32

and progressing. It was there as far

5:34

as the young man. I was living so fast, I was

5:37

like nah, And then um,

5:39

I had a chance to play Mike Mike

5:42

was out there year and had retired and I had I

5:44

had to play with him in in uh in a

5:46

in a gym down here downtown. He

5:49

let me play with him and some of the guys that he had and

5:51

uh Isaiah Thomas was in there.

5:53

And after we played, Azaia pulled me to the side

5:55

and gave me probably one of the more convincing

5:57

conversations about just playing

6:00

in and and and having the opportunity

6:02

to play and knowing the rules of those

6:04

opportunities. And that's what really

6:07

really this this documentary is about education

6:09

because if not for what Zeke told

6:11

me and now, I don't know if I would have known that

6:14

those options was even there to take advantage

6:16

of. And that's that's really what this is about.

6:18

I exposed the rule and the line that was

6:20

really fine in there that want nobody contested.

6:23

I don't think they were stirring another of the league. I

6:25

thought a kid was gonna be able to uh

6:28

do some of these things in these lines of opportunities,

6:30

but it was there and I and I tried it. We're

6:33

gonna visit your career later on. But post

6:35

retirement, what what

6:37

what has been? What do you

6:39

like? What are you enjoy the most being done with

6:41

this, getting rest and

6:44

share straight up. You know, you you you play so much,

6:47

you train so much, You trained so hard that

6:49

your downtime and you'r the time that you have to

6:51

yourself is everything, right, you know. Being

6:53

able to you know, take my kids to school, being able

6:56

to go to look crazy school plays,

6:59

right, man, that's huge for me. So being

7:01

able to do that, it's like everything, So that's

7:03

probably the best part. Every time people

7:05

don't understand, I mean, like they said, they see our seasons

7:08

eight months, some longer for others if you go to the

7:10

finals, going to the playoffs, but we

7:12

may maybe take a month off, maybe

7:14

three weeks. It depends on you, you know, maybe

7:17

a little bit more. But

7:20

but really it's it's it's it's it's eleven

7:22

months around. You know, it's eleven out of twelve months

7:24

we're working. You don't get like all this

7:26

workload and what is it with load? Man? I

7:30

wish there was no such thing. We've still been in

7:32

the league, right, there was no such thing. We

7:34

wouldn't allowed it. We didn't. We wouldn't. We cared

7:36

a different pride, a type

7:38

of pride, and our style of basketball

7:41

for you to be able to practice for two hours

7:43

two and a half. Some coaches practice practice

7:46

hard. I'm talking about you and you in the next

7:48

that cat going really ham on each other,

7:50

but you're pushing each other. Then at the practice

7:53

matter fact, before practice, you got a thirty forty

7:55

five minute joint that you did on your own just

7:57

for you individuals. Then you then you actually

8:00

actic with everybody and did did everything with that

8:02

didn't After practice, you got another thirty forty

8:04

five minutes just to sharpen everything. And

8:06

that's because you know it's gonna come to you. You know, if

8:08

you come down, you gotta be able to get a couple of buckets. You

8:10

gotta they're gonna trap you gotta be So you're working

8:13

on six or seven different

8:15

things every day. But you locked into

8:17

that mentally, You locked into that, that

8:19

work, that plan, that that that ass You know that

8:22

you took a pride in in that preparation

8:24

and being prepared for those for those battles

8:26

and being prepared for those games. And

8:29

and I never took that light. I never, I never, I never

8:31

messed around with that. That was something that I took pride in.

8:33

And then being able to play hurt. Then

8:35

they played through something. And I'm not

8:38

talking about just on the court. Mom's

8:40

going through something, going through

8:43

something, the girl because

8:45

the house something. The dogs got this, the

8:47

dogs got out, chased the neighbor down the court street.

8:50

You innigator to the long

8:53

with off, the long overhand with off,

8:55

you get multiple homes along in the California with Off.

8:57

You gotta know I'm in I'm in Denver

8:59

right now. Let's go what like, you

9:02

have no idea what all lives are like. But

9:04

we create this and we work hard for it, and

9:06

we really right for so just a

9:08

different brand of basketball right now. And

9:10

that's a that's what what kind of we

9:13

strive to when we have our guests, is

9:15

to humanize you guys, and humanize us because

9:17

we go through the same ship everyone else goes. It's

9:19

just everything is in front of the world, you know what I meaning

9:21

for us to be able to mentally focus on

9:24

a public divorce or me

9:26

having to whip somebody's ass during the middle of the season,

9:28

and it's it's all over TMZ and

9:31

ESPN, but we still have a job to do, or

9:33

your mom passing away, you know, or just

9:35

crazy things and we don't get no excuses.

9:38

You mean, go out there, you know, and to

9:40

perform at the highest level. But at the same time we're human, so

9:42

to be able to humanize and let everyone know like there's

9:44

real ship. We gotta go through too, but we just don't have We

9:47

don't have the time. I'll be honest, man.

9:49

The best thing about I

9:52

guess this position is that when you're going

9:54

through that, a lot of people don't have no outlets

9:56

for that. You can go out here on this court and act

9:58

the goddamn food and people be out

10:00

here cheering your name, and really you out here screamish,

10:03

cutting people out, swinging on the ram, just

10:06

being an animal out here. But you are being

10:08

able to get that, able to release

10:10

days. You know what I'm saying. It's very shimming the punching a

10:12

punching bag or something. The league

10:15

or the game for me was a way to escape

10:17

reality and let it all out. I

10:20

love that Hollywood debut Man uncut.

10:22

Yeah, KG

10:25

is an accident. That's a

10:27

big time. Oh

10:31

can we get a napkin too? And

10:33

we poked and see my boy, I gotta pause water

10:36

man, hold on, we founding off man. No, it's

10:38

all good. I don't want to pull my water.

10:42

It's cool. It's

10:44

so cold. I I'd rather be hot, like he

10:48

got good, we got we

10:50

got plenty of towels. Now we're right around.

10:52

But tell me what it was like, you know, making your Hollywood

10:55

debut and getting a chance to work man

10:57

that bamboos And they told me I was going to have like a little

11:00

cameo in and so you think you're just gonna show

11:02

up, be yourself, play a part, and

11:04

uh, it was that simple. I had the time

11:07

to be able to do it. And at first I was like,

11:09

let me let me hear the movie first. So I had

11:11

to read the South the brothers and we all

11:13

had to meet. He was super

11:15

nick fans I showed up, was like

11:25

the next really you all got to him to talk right

11:27

now. You kind of did

11:30

that for the first five to ten minutes. But then

11:32

they was real dudes. They was real cool. Um.

11:34

They was embedded in the coach. I had seen a couple of

11:36

their projects. I have been a fan. Didn't know

11:39

that that was them. They did the jay

11:41

Z video that I was a huge

11:43

fan of. I didn't even know. I just started to learn like

11:45

these new intangibles about you know, and

11:48

then they started taking me and walking me through this whole

11:50

scenario of the movie, and

11:52

it was just about me being myself. So I was just

11:54

the first thing I thought was like, man, can

11:58

I mess up like playing yourself? Like

12:00

just think about that, and I know you fuck

12:02

that up? And I know being in the jury store familiar

12:06

right, who hasn't been here? Right, Like,

12:08

no, I can do you know I can do I can play myself.

12:11

So that became like, okay,

12:13

you can do this. And then a little about a little they

12:15

store, like piling stuff on like I was in another

12:17

joint, and then I was in another joint. Then I had

12:20

you know, at first I had this much to say and

12:22

it was like this much to say. Next thing, you know, I got to

12:25

incredit credit

12:27

to you. He was killing my God.

12:31

Yeah, I said, I know, I got a little book right here. I gotta

12:34

go back and forth with Adam. It's got to go like this, I

12:36

gotta do it like what the funds does that

12:38

dope and ship. It was like, nah, I see how you were saying.

12:41

And then just go you like you've been in the jury

12:43

store befold, like you know, just be yourself. So

12:45

that's why it was so nice, natural, I

12:48

came off natural. How was it working with Adam? He's

12:50

one of my favorites? Listen, man, I got

12:52

to see Adam in his his

12:54

His greatness is an element a

12:56

lot of people don't notice. And when you step on the court

12:58

with Michael Jordan's for all us who's been

13:01

here and been there, you feel his greatness

13:04

almost to the point where you're like, damn, the intimidated

13:06

where you're checking and kicks out,

13:08

so you looking at and you're looking then you gotta

13:10

you know, like, aren't looking at it, but

13:14

you feel it.

13:20

That's how I felt. He was so humble,

13:22

he was so chill, but then again he had a

13:25

when there was an action boom time. Oh

13:27

man, you you just felt it like oh

13:30

wow, you caught the same moighty. You call looking

13:32

and you call it look like ni you got lines in this and I'm

13:34

like, oh ship and

13:37

then you get caught up in it. But I was able to

13:39

experience that, and it was It was unbelievable.

13:41

Then unbelievable experience watching someone

13:44

be great and play something and play a role

13:46

and be a totally different person. It's

13:48

crazy. NBA today visit

13:51

versus twenty five years ago, is

13:54

anything in the game that you would change today? In today's

13:56

game, where would you change? Um,

13:59

I'm gonna be honest, man, I wouldn't change anything

14:01

because I game was way different. This

14:03

brand of basketball is for this brand

14:05

of kids. The brand of basketball

14:07

in which we play was for that brand of individuals

14:10

that was able to play. That. You gotta understand.

14:12

When you're playing the NBA team, you earn that position,

14:15

they give your jersey, they give you a lock, and you

14:17

earn that space, that square that's

14:19

yours, that's yours. You put your belongings

14:22

in there, your valuables in there, that's yours. You

14:24

earn that. I don't think it's our

14:26

place to kind of replace this. This is what it

14:28

is. This is the brand of basketball these

14:31

young kids love to play, and we gotta

14:33

respect it. We gotta find the greatness and the jewels

14:35

out of all of it, versus comparing

14:37

it, Like you know, I hate when they compare Code

14:40

to Mike and Mike the Lebron. These

14:42

are totally different dynamics and people.

14:45

If anybody's playing with Lebron James the most unselfish

14:48

superstar problem in sports, You

14:50

know what I'm saying, Just being able to, he was like the

14:52

shock shot could have been a lot more mean

14:54

than than he was. You know what we

14:57

think God was raised right, it's

15:01

been motherfuck haven't played to get the piste

15:03

off shot right? Shout

15:05

getting pissed? What like, thank

15:08

you, thank you mama, no O'Neil, thank

15:11

you, thank you for that. Seriously. But it's

15:13

a different brand of basketball. So when I

15:15

watched them, like what the what the okay

15:18

to float in now that's what they do now, okay,

15:20

let me okay, but he could have you know,

15:22

and and I put someone like that because I had to.

15:24

I had to train, you know, I had to train kids.

15:26

I had to be able to. I taught you, honest a couple

15:29

of times, and and and than and and

15:31

a couple of young guys. So I had to actually adapt

15:33

and download. That's what everybody

15:35

was doing and being able to, you know, take the

15:37

same Jews and how you prepare, how you come

15:40

in here and your mindset and put that with

15:42

this new style. So yeah, you know, as ogs,

15:44

we don't have to make the download even though

15:46

it ain't all preface and this ain't what we

15:48

used to. That's also bring a

15:50

basketball. Absolutely, we gotta you gotta

15:52

adapt. You know. That meant the game

15:54

is at an all time high now. So someone say there's no defense,

15:57

there's on this, on that, But the game is at all time, all

15:59

time global mark. People are making more

16:01

money than you can ever. People are getting forty million

16:03

dollars a year to throw a ball between, you know, in a hoop.

16:05

So to me, older players, it's

16:08

not this, it's not that. Like you said, we have to adapt.

16:10

This is what it is for right now. It may stay this way,

16:12

it may go back and may not, but we have to adapt to

16:14

what it is to That game is entertainment right now.

16:17

You want to see as much d as if it's

16:19

gonna drive the offense. Like I

16:21

don't like to see mad get dt up til he started

16:24

bobbling and throwing the bit out of bound and like, all

16:26

right, that's too much defense. I want to see him, you

16:29

know what I'm saying. At least when I'm watching James

16:31

cook, I'm kind of noring that he cooking,

16:33

but I want to see what he cook so

16:36

I'm kind of like, but I'm like, oh,

16:41

you know, I get caught into it too, but I have

16:43

to respect it. This is their brand of basketball.

16:46

So let me see the best of it. You know what

16:48

I'm saying, your early years, Who did you pat in your game

16:50

after? Oh, man, coming

16:52

in the game, coming in the game, because like you

16:54

know, a lot of people say it was

16:56

no KG before KG, So

16:59

who did you out of your game? Man? You gotta know

17:01

that guys like, uh, I've seen

17:03

you in Rounnie Fields in high school, so I know in

17:05

my mind it wasn't Okay, it wasn't the

17:07

Ronnie Fields. But you had guys

17:10

like Web, you know, like I look

17:12

at Web and Big Dog even though we're

17:14

in the kind of same generation,

17:16

but those are my older brothers, were she Joe

17:19

Smith that like, those are my old you know. But

17:21

when it came to big big brothers, no, obviously

17:24

Calling and and and Charles, they were older.

17:27

Uh. David was as agile

17:29

as you want to be at the position. But for

17:32

me, magic was like the

17:34

potential of what you can be if you had some handles.

17:37

So then I was thinking, like, man, what wasn't magic was

17:39

came from the hood? Like

17:42

what if? Like Magic had like a big max

17:44

kind of attitude with this ship, you

17:46

know, like what I like

17:48

one thing I loved about Web, Web used to dunking

17:51

on you ain't laying it up and you're gonna put

17:53

you in the basket. So the all the kicking

17:55

each other. And you know we're from Honyx, We're from

17:57

crack babies, were from from

17:59

game banging, you know, right, So

18:02

when we was playing, that's how that's how Wolf used

18:04

to have us out here like yo shring on the rim, gratheran

18:07

smelling with smells cologne. I

18:12

wanted to be able to be bursting from a seven

18:14

foot perspective and not have any limitations.

18:17

I didn't want any when I came out

18:19

here on the court. I wanted to have the advantage, and I wanted

18:21

you as the opposed to know I have the advantage,

18:23

and then I want to watch how you adjusted that. Then

18:25

I'm starting adjusting you. Now I'm seeing

18:27

how eager you are. Now I got you going off pump face.

18:29

Now I'm just going. And I always picked

18:32

that up early, and as I got into the league,

18:34

I started getting knowledge from over the players. Kevin McHale

18:36

started getting taught what I was actually seeing,

18:39

and then I just took it to another level where creatively,

18:41

because once you can teach something, that's when you know you

18:44

have it. You know what I'm saying. Okay,

18:46

besides pot pattern your game, who did

18:48

you watch growing up? Like who did you watch? Chris

18:50

Webber and Big Dogs? Yeah,

18:52

even though she was like still like kind

18:54

of like right there, I can where

18:58

was like the oach. I wanted to be like where web

19:00

It was like this big ass like Charles Barkley,

19:02

where you chocolate to

19:07

your web where one laying

19:10

nothing up. Webb had these huge ass

19:12

hands and he was dumping on you. He

19:14

kind of crazy story. And I first got in the league and I

19:16

played against Webb. He caught it and a look

19:18

and he shot a jumping a look and he shot the jump

19:21

and I looked at it and sam Mitchell right, I think

19:23

right? I think right? If he had to jump hook on my take

19:25

it out whatever. He came up and he slapped the ship

19:27

out of me. Lord slapped what the

19:30

ship? You can't do that out here. Can't

19:32

be a fan out here. I know you love him. You gotta

19:34

bust his ass though. That was the last

19:36

time that ever happened. Straight

19:38

up, he stopped the dog shit out of me. In the game.

19:42

My favorite player shout a jump hook on him

19:44

and I was in all of it, and I had

19:46

lost it. I lost all all the fans. I had to

19:48

actually put it to the shopped the fan

19:50

out because I've seen Deez and did the damn state

19:52

like you seen shot first time?

19:54

He never seen shot first time? First time? Man

19:59

shot came out like god. I kept

20:01

looking up. Meanwhile, I'm seven

20:03

foot, y'all. I

20:05

was like, god, this,

20:09

you know, you're talking real fastest That country

20:12

father did

20:15

he always give you that little quick hand. Good good.

20:19

But Diesels, He's just Diesel was good, good

20:21

people man, you know, But yeah,

20:23

man, where was? I wanted

20:25

to be like where? But I wanted to be a better version of Web

20:28

silent so me, you know, me and

20:30

man have the same passion. But I

20:33

always tell people our passion for the game and

20:35

what basketball means to me. You cannot teach.

20:38

You know, I knew what basketball could do for

20:40

my life, my family's life. You know what

20:42

I mean, Your passion for the game, your emotion

20:44

for the game. Who do you credit that

20:46

too? My

20:49

mom? My mom? My mom is a straight up,

20:51

straight up yeah. And she used

20:53

to work grave y'ad. Y'all know what graveyard is?

20:55

Graveyard six six six or six

20:59

six in the morning, right, she did that for a number

21:01

of years, and

21:04

then watching that, watching how she would

21:06

come home and still had energy to get us ready for school,

21:08

get us to school, and then we had to actually go

21:10

to school, be something. So you know, it was under that.

21:13

So whenever I came out, I understood

21:15

responsibility very early. So when

21:18

I would when I would prepare for something or you

21:20

know, whether it was the school project or whatever, I would put

21:22

everything into it. So when it came to practicing

21:24

basketball, I used to get my ask

21:26

busted. I used to I was in a rougher neighborhood.

21:28

Then I moved to a nicer neighborhood, and then this nice

21:31

neighborhood. They didn't play football, they didn't street fight,

21:33

they didn't slap box, and then you know, there was more

21:36

polished, polished individuals. You

21:38

know, they were collared shirts and polos,

21:41

and it was my first time actually like what

21:43

the hell was seeing like black excellence. You know, it's like a

21:45

better neighborhood. But there was where

21:47

where where parents were doing better. Moving

21:49

from the hood, that's when that whole transition started.

21:52

When you had the backyard and frontyard, you couldn't

21:54

tell you ship. After that right, coming from the projects,

21:56

right, and uh, you just

21:58

thought you made it, but down here it was playing basketball.

22:00

So to be better, I just I used to work

22:03

on my ship. I used to watch Derek Coleman. I used to watch

22:05

Kenny Amerson. I used to I used to have fans

22:07

of people that I wanted to be like, and I worked on that ship.

22:10

But then working in all this, I used to always

22:12

put like my version of that into

22:15

like how I would do it, because I wann't. I didn't have

22:17

big shoulders. I wasn't this big, you know, massive

22:19

a person, So I just had to I used to always

22:21

creatively make it work for me. But my

22:24

mom was the first part of me learning

22:26

what hard work and pushing through and

22:28

being mentally strong. She was

22:31

my first and probably my only decent

22:33

example in which I obviously took from players

22:35

and stuff. But when it came and I

22:38

never got to C MJ practice or prepare,

22:40

but I prepared with laser focus

22:42

and uh, laser concentration,

22:45

so that when I got on the court, I knew exactly how it

22:47

was gonna be and I was following that vision.

22:50

And to touch on that like it's

22:53

it's crazy because before I even

22:55

met you, seeing you play basketball,

22:58

I knew that we would relate. And now

23:00

you talk about the graveyard ship now like we

23:02

were basically the same person, because

23:05

like I can see how your mama made

23:07

you strong because I got you gotta I'm I'm

23:09

gonna I'm gonna reiterate that on that. Growing

23:12

up, you come home from school

23:14

for five, your mom at work six

23:16

in the morning, getting ready she

23:18

coming home, So you don't even see your mama

23:21

some days, you know what I'm saying. So and

23:24

then now you're relying on your grandmother somebody else

23:26

to be that parents so that that ship

23:28

can take a toll on the absolutely as a kid,

23:30

now you're trying to figure out how you gonna get

23:33

the wisdom and stuff to make it because

23:35

your mind it works, You're not getting it from hers. So so

23:38

just seeing seeing your passion, Like before I met

23:40

you, I knew that I was going to relate

23:42

to you, and and even now I have the utmost

23:44

respect for you, But I knew we was gonna relate, and I knew kind

23:46

of the same we bring was gonna bring us to the same place.

23:48

It's an energy too, I mean, I think obviously you know

23:51

what your energy is what I was always drawn

23:53

to when you were one of the players that are just like man, I

23:55

wish I can just play with this dude. You know what

23:57

I mean, because I when I talked Tost did right.

23:59

We'll get to that too, talking about Big Baby

24:01

Davis and Nate Robinson and Perk the like

24:04

damn you KG would have got along like this,

24:06

y'all. Motherfucker's just both out there

24:08

going crazy, you know what I mean. So I just

24:10

loved your energy. You're starting

24:12

in the pre game where your motherfucking running

24:14

and breathing hard and slapping the back of the back trying

24:17

to I'm just like watching

24:23

one of the greats. You gotta watching

24:29

and we're watching greatness. We know we're we

24:31

respect. Speaking on the speaking of that, let's talk about

24:33

the Western Conference in the nineties, early two

24:35

two thousands, I mean that all

24:38

over. Tim Duncan, rsh

24:40

Wallace, Karl Alon, Barkley, Dirt

24:42

Barkley, Dirk. I keep

24:44

you see where I can keep going down to make dice

24:47

every night. You had to be ready. You

24:49

know what's crazy is um

24:53

the West was, but

24:56

the proof that's every day. Listen. I know

24:58

the guard played right now and was just

25:00

kind of like, you know, the right.

25:03

But the pole four back then was like every

25:05

night it wasn't it wasn't it really wasn't a night

25:08

off. You know. You would have guys

25:10

who um, I would

25:12

even throw Danny Manny in this man like little

25:14

guys that you wouldn't necessarily um Derrek

25:17

mckeeth from from Indiana.

25:20

Uh, nobody really talks about Big Dog,

25:22

you know, um web she

25:26

dice. Dirk was young, but

25:28

then he came into himself. Joe smith

25:30

Nobody talks about Joe Smith. Man

25:33

it was it was. It was Gearles Barkley,

25:35

calm alone like it was. And then David

25:37

Robinson would float because Dennis Robin played

25:40

five, so he would float sometime to

25:42

four and he had all agility

25:44

to face you hit you with a you know, so

25:47

every night it was it was. It was just it was just a

25:49

challenge at the position. But

25:51

at the same time, while you're sitting up here,

25:53

you know, appreciating everybody else's style, you

25:55

really having to light on your own and

25:58

actually come with like I told y'all your shop

26:00

and still and I used to always be prepared

26:02

for whatever and whoever, and

26:04

I didn't want to ever be the one

26:06

that didn't have the energy or I

26:09

didn't have to know how Like everybody that has

26:11

ever played with me would tell you two things.

26:13

I'm prepared to play and it's whatever

26:16

like I want of them, that's one of them. I'm one

26:18

of them teammates that's gonna ride even if you're

26:20

wrong run, which we're talking about

26:22

how wrong you are later, but right

26:24

now we're in it, going throw it,

26:27

throw it like we're out here. And you know,

26:29

my mentality has always been like that. So that's

26:31

why when you know, when I'm when I

26:33

befriend somebody or we become teammates, to be

26:35

really feeling like we're family, because that's

26:37

how we hold it. That's where it goes. Yeah, yeah, all

26:39

that, Yeah, two thousands. Who's

26:43

the toughest match? Everything? Yeah, all of them?

26:45

And you bust everybody asks you know that.

26:49

I want to know who got you? Who got you? My

26:52

first? My first God damn was a big dog

26:54

man on you know, I'm thinking

26:58

Milwaukee, big dog like this just you

27:00

know, my rookie year, I'm coming in here. And plus

27:02

I'm used to in high school playing bigs. I wasn't

27:04

used to playing threes and chasing people

27:07

off guards and didn't have a crazy handle. And

27:09

I played a couple of guards, but not not like

27:12

this, not like this. No, big

27:14

dog, No, not like this. Big

27:16

Dog was a whole another level. And I was like, holy snap,

27:18

yeah, like thirty eight in the in the in a in

27:20

a in a preseason game. You know, precens

27:23

you're supposed to be taking the light. You're going through the motions,

27:25

YadA, y'ada. Big dog out here

27:27

dripping, he out here, making

27:29

noise and growling and talking ship and

27:32

and I ain't gonna front. I was like, it was, it was, It

27:34

was a lot. It was over my head. And I

27:36

watched the film and then I watched the film. I

27:39

took took naper, woke up really

27:41

early that watched it again. And each time

27:43

I watched it, I got pissed and more pissed,

27:45

and and then coaches

27:47

were telling me how he was breaking me down. And then

27:50

I started figuring it out. Okay, he coming

27:52

off picts like this, like I took the angle, he

27:54

crossed me up right here in my hand. Ain't even so

27:56

I started picking up the intangibles. You

27:58

don't even know that any game, y'all. That

28:01

um the small stuff. The

28:03

hand contests to swipe at the ball. You know,

28:06

that's a little slap at the knee. All that means

28:08

something in basketball. If you don't do that

28:10

and he goes up and makes a clear shot, he

28:13

can make that you put your hand up. It changed

28:15

the whole dynamic of that. So when

28:17

I figured that out, I started like okay. And

28:20

I'm good at mathematics too, so I was always

28:22

angles. When I would attack somebody, I

28:24

would atack somebody's shoulder to shoulder because

28:26

I knew they had the movie. Then I would spending back for

28:28

a left or come back. And then when I was spending

28:30

back, I got that web of michel don't dunk

28:33

the small poms. And I was on

28:35

that like man like. And then as

28:37

I started getting better, I started seeing like the competition

28:40

and falling off and that

28:46

I started eating that alive. I started getting off on

28:48

that like I was. I would face guys and look

28:50

and then look him in the face and like, look at me. And I would have

28:53

guys like you know, Tony and

28:55

Twine Jamison actually loving him, and Chris

28:57

Boss would never look at me on the face, So look at you

29:00

know my name, look a look at me on the face, knowing

29:03

I got the whole clock in my head swinging,

29:06

and I always knew I had that, so I used to always

29:08

play to that. But you know, this

29:10

game is about being dominating,

29:13

and if you're not the one stepping on somebody, then

29:15

you're the one being stepped on. And I

29:17

hate to put it like that, but that's that's what it was.

29:20

And if you didn't come with your best, then you got embarrassed

29:23

straight like that. I gotta I can't forget Antoine

29:25

Walker here and that Cybertwine

29:28

was a mosterfuck he was. He

29:30

was the first that had the candy

29:32

with the big fellow who had all the handles and

29:34

the all trickiness and the floaters and the three

29:37

ball and the knock knees. Cybertwain

29:39

was a motherfucker's headache straight

29:42

up. Then Zach Randolf and all these other little

29:44

guys start coming into the game to

29:46

start making it all just just pushing you. Pushing

29:49

Lee was dope. Man. I enjoyed my timely.

29:51

I can't speak for everybody else, but my ship

29:53

was magical, y'all. Never dull moment.

29:56

Remember a friend of mine, YEA definitely

29:58

get up a

30:01

friend of mine and former Jolini McCoy

30:04

said he played against you somewhere in high school,

30:06

and he said, you got all the

30:08

yelling and dunking and yelling and blocking and

30:10

yelling from you. Where did you play

30:15

one game? Shout

30:17

five? Yeah,

30:20

don't asked me no question about the story. I

30:22

y'all just listened to the guy that story.

30:25

So when i'm I'm South

30:28

Carolina is not a lot of tournaments and

30:30

not a lot of national exposure,

30:32

so I would go, I got it. I got invited

30:34

to Nike which was in Indianapolis. Well

30:36

I meant ai. I met a lot of my

30:38

future friends there in that camp, Ronnie

30:41

Fields and everybody that was there in that camp. So

30:43

in that you got like you're

30:46

not supposed to at that time, but you got like a little

30:48

you know, nig was hanging out, Month was over here,

30:50

Hey on Case what was helling? And Dita's

30:53

over here. We were in New Jersey, so it was a bunch of

30:55

that going on. So I'll be friend of the cat

30:57

that was from l A and he was with

30:59

a case. I don't know if y'll sneak ahead, I'm an huge

31:01

sneak ahead, but one of my favorite

31:04

actually like the case with the Navy buelp.

31:07

Yeah right, you

31:10

already know, right, So he was like, yo,

31:12

way, I can't really give you all the ship Nike then, but

31:14

I can fly you out whatever. You ever heard of Paul Peers

31:16

like Paul Peers like, no, I

31:19

want that, like no, cant on the West Coast

31:21

making lines. And then you ever heard of Henderson,

31:23

like you've heard of Ricky? Start naming

31:25

all these West Coast cats, Ricky Pricing.

31:28

These are all hitters, y'all. Everybody I'm naming

31:30

is somebody Toby Bailey, like all

31:32

these cats, right, So like my main really you

31:34

know, I'm over here. So he's like, but

31:37

come, I n see what we're talking. I thought it's full

31:39

of ship, and I see, I know, I get this joint. I get my first

31:41

time I've been on the plane to me and my mom,

31:43

we get you know, I'm

31:45

a fifteen fifteen

31:48

but my mom go to Vegas on this little whatever,

31:50

no bread, no nothing, this ship. So I take care

31:52

of but it's au So I meet Paul

31:54

Pears before we go to Vegas. We gotta go to l

31:56

A. We go to Inglewood. So first you

31:58

know, I'm in Inglewood like what Inglewood

32:00

High me de money in their shout to the

32:03

money term five whole

32:05

little know, the whole West, the whole

32:07

joint, the whole l a right now right

32:10

so pe here, I'll see a little fat kid like a

32:12

little curls

32:15

and saying, you know what I'm

32:17

saying, I'm like, who

32:20

is a little fast? I'm watching them play ones?

32:22

But then p went up and crossed it then

32:24

dunked that moment like damn so fat motherfucking

32:27

jump. So we get

32:29

to messed around, we get to play. We went out. We

32:31

were like a little practicing it all click, we're

32:33

all joking talking, share y'all, y'all. We

32:36

go to Vegas and the first thing he say

32:38

to me is, look and all these late niggers gonna

32:40

be on one team just near Sha Cotton. He

32:45

was. He was the Ronnie Fields of the West Coast,

32:48

like this ninth eighth grade of West super

32:50

all sports cover. He was. He

32:53

was. He was before his time, and

32:55

he was left handed, and he was nasty,

32:58

unbelievable, and he was a nigger. Y'all want

33:01

dunking mom talking. He went

33:03

smoke. He was with whatever, like

33:06

seriously like he was probably a little meaning in lebron

33:11

with respected though, like at an early age.

33:14

So I didn't even know none of this. So I'm like, I

33:16

don't want whatever. I don't you know, I don't care

33:19

less hoop. So he people pointing everybody

33:21

out look at j'a Jamalani

33:23

mcquarter back here just to this wicked price for So

33:26

I'm sitting up. Okay, we're

33:28

really looking like Lennox and d m X in

33:31

the joining bell looking at Yeah.

33:33

I see him with the feathers in his head. Yeah,

33:35

I see him food. Yeah, I don't look that

33:37

big. So we over there like that. Yeah. So

33:40

I'm over getting like a check of everybody. So I watched

33:42

Jelani outlet everybody ship. Jeannie

33:44

McCoy, y'all was one of the best

33:47

high school shot blockers I've ever seen.

33:50

I'm just like just how he anticipated,

33:52

how he and he talking, you know, he throwing

33:55

and I'm looking. I'm looking. I'm like, okay,

33:57

that's what he Yeah, so we

34:00

all get to where we're going the championship. Gam already

34:03

know what I gotta. I gotta turn it all the way up.

34:05

So I'm all the way he termed, I'm on a

34:07

thousand. So when I'm throwing

34:09

nigga, shout him, no peace mine,

34:12

no blocking your ship, putting it

34:14

in the rim, taking it out and rebound

34:17

hitting the backboard twice. You know, all the little ships.

34:19

I'm doing so no

34:22

mine, no something

34:24

just goldtending. I'm doing

34:26

just you know, like we beat

34:28

them niggas pe

34:31

bones shat, they go back, you know, but we beat

34:33

them. We winning whatever. I go back to South Carolina.

34:35

I don't even know, but peace stopped.

34:38

Go to the roof, you know what I'm saying. So

34:40

next thing I know, I see pee heat damn near

34:42

thirty pounds slam. He

34:46

doing all type of other ship. Yeah, you

34:48

know, like we we're growing out of our little bodies.

34:51

And yeah, that's my first

34:53

kind of read to the interaction with Jelani.

34:56

And then we were we were all see like see

34:58

as I'm sitting here saying this, so many

35:00

guys get caught like in the wave

35:03

of just because jo Lonnie McCoy

35:05

was a real one, like you know, you had to have you

35:07

had to move him, you had to have a whole package

35:10

of moves for guys like that had

35:13

a long career career,

35:16

listened easy him and Ronnie feels it

35:18

was the two biggest. Uh

35:21

listen, Shako and Ronnie Fields and Lenny

35:23

Cook. The league missed out on all

35:26

three of those and

35:28

being basketball legends in their own right, shout

35:32

out.

35:36

So you caught MJ's

35:38

last three pet we

35:43

all, did we tell

35:47

tell me what that was? Like? Mike was heat man.

35:49

She had like in the back of Matt

35:51

was sitting in front of me. I went like this, Tom,

35:54

I said, did you feel that? I said, yeah, I said, That's how

35:56

Mike was yo, like any just when he was on

35:58

the court, he was just he way. You have

36:00

to look at it. Listen, he was a dog.

36:03

You understandybody think might use the big

36:05

words and charisma and smile, and

36:08

it's a whole another side to that, y'all

36:11

who I know and

36:14

in any in anything that would either shake

36:16

or rattle or was it or came off

36:18

as disrespectful, he reacted to it and

36:21

there was motivation. And I actually took a little

36:23

piece of that out. But when you play, because

36:25

when you play dog, you don't understand that you've got to

36:27

be in a certain Me and Jack

36:29

could be best friends. I can be cool with Matt, but out

36:31

here I gotta put Matt on his ass for just lay

36:34

up. If not I get back to the

36:36

locker room the door shut, it might turn into something

36:38

else from me. Let

36:40

me tell you the way he greeted us walking up here, it's

36:42

a totally different way. He great us for a game, man,

36:45

He don't. He don't give us that much love for a

36:47

game. It's a real shady as ship for the game

36:49

and shady. I'm drawing the

36:51

line of the sin and you know where I'm at. You

36:54

know what I'm saying, like, well, it ain't the same as

36:56

when I

36:59

gotta kill you. It's one time, ain't

37:01

nothing personal. But yeah,

37:03

and it was harder with friends like Chauncey t

37:05

Lou. I'm glad all my friends were guards.

37:08

You know, I didn't have to guard, you know what I'm saying. But

37:10

when I be friends and Sheet, it was hard playing

37:12

Sheet sometimes. G Trent was one of my

37:14

good friends. Was hard playing those guys. But

37:17

I know that I hear trying to bear my throat, so

37:19

you know it was you know, it was easy to hear with absolutely

37:22

what's your best MJ story? Oh man,

37:25

um

37:28

my best MJ. Well, one of my MJ story

37:31

was, what were my favorite one? Of

37:33

my favorite MJ story is since

37:35

this out there. Um, we're in Chicago.

37:37

You know it's my rookie year, second

37:40

half of the year. You know how, you you know how, you're

37:42

not caught on now right now, you got your

37:44

little one two moves. You get in the marrow right now, you've got some

37:46

confidence, right So I'm in that. So

37:48

I'm in the way. I'm playing decent. I'm starting whatever.

37:50

However, where we get Chicago, Ronnie

37:54

was just in the bad crash. I haven't had

37:56

no sleep, so I'm gonna I'm gonna

37:59

getting back to the I got about seventy people

38:01

at the game in the hood and here we all live here,

38:03

right, so I'm just on

38:05

one. But I haven't had no sleep. I'm

38:08

just doing like you know, I coming

38:10

here, man. And it was hard seeing my partner

38:12

in the bed like that. You had a big gass halo around

38:15

his neck. But he was such a good spirits man. Phil

38:17

shot the Ronnie fields to

38:20

listen, bro, he was dunking and mother doing

38:23

the same thing with the halo on his head,

38:25

which is crazy. Anyway,

38:27

I go, I'm playing right. But JR.

38:29

Is having a good game, you know what. J Mike

38:33

shot the j so I'm

38:36

like, so as we come at the time out just

38:38

just I'm on y'all, y'all. I can't even

38:40

explain it. I was just like, yo, keep

38:43

keep killing that nigga. Yo, killing that nigg

38:45

boning them, Yo, straight up, you have a good game,

38:47

Joe, keep going. But it was on some like just fly

38:49

by like he was like, yeah, you too. So as

38:51

I'm walking off right

38:54

here, Mike can hear me, but

38:56

I ain't really I don't really give a funk. I'm

38:58

like, so a double ballot,

39:01

Yeah, man, keep killing that nig you're killing

39:03

them on so as I say that,

39:06

I feel it, hands

39:09

on hips last lock the

39:14

look and then stabbed me without fifteen

39:16

seconds. Let

39:21

so I start to feel it. Two ways you can go in

39:23

this. I can walk this off out like I

39:25

don't even feel it and play it off and

39:27

and dumb me out that now I'm

39:29

in here, I got soon keep

39:37

killing this nigga. Okay, keep

39:39

it up. So I hear ja, y'all, go y'all your fella

39:41

keep going in you too. He's trying to get

39:43

me off a note. I don't even you know now that I

39:45

recall it. He was trying to kind of so

39:49

I double back, go and

39:51

get ready to say something. So he goes, hey,

39:53

look my henn't really know how we I

39:56

see him and might having a conversation. He's like him

39:58

when he know he excited whatever. So now

40:00

MJ on the back leg joint, you know,

40:05

okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

40:07

yeah. Huh.

40:09

I can't even really describe the next like sixty

40:12

seven minutes to play, y'all, and

40:14

this the next sixty seven minutes to play, y'all,

40:17

we get to not one to ten

40:19

second calls, you know, you bring the ball

40:21

up and the second

40:23

calls be down twenty

40:25

five. Now it was just that too. I

40:29

had eighteen year like forty

40:32

now, jall,

40:34

myself, we ain't scored in like about

40:36

four minutes, and I subbed

40:38

like three of the starters. Like it's just finally

40:43

it got bad quick, y'all. I

40:46

come to the joint and then they noticed

40:48

when you come and you've been on the run, you're not got

40:51

back on the got back how to be back, and you

40:53

feel like you're on defense all the time. You come to the

40:55

best like this. So

40:59

I was like, I'm

41:03

sorry, man, I'm sorry. Do

41:06

you like it's cool man. I told

41:08

you shut your shot, so

41:12

so you got in between the gat there

41:14

where you like, damn, and that's thing. You know, we all they're

41:17

like this, Mike

41:20

came down. Okay, y'all fell okay, okay, Damn

41:23

y'all fella down. Damn y'all, y'all

41:25

done. Damn y'all never

41:28

talked to Mike every given life seen

41:31

him at I all start apologizing, man, you know what I'm man.

41:34

I never did nobody else, but I had a

41:36

little respect man. That's

41:39

Mike. Did I apologize to

41:41

Ja? Y'all? How

41:43

to get your man?

41:45

What? Jerrard said? What was? Jerrard responded,

41:47

Man, I told you chill out man, you

41:50

felt But Jaya was like a cool big man

41:52

shout to him and him and saying, Mitchell, they

41:55

were they were great vests for me man, him and Terry

41:57

Porter. They was real vests. These

41:59

were real gs that they had

42:01

messed up. So when I came in, they was really

42:04

cracking the whip on me on just walking the fine

42:06

line. That's important, and they didn't really understand

42:08

that ship. I won't go mass this up for nobody.

42:11

I don't need you all to be on me like this. But

42:13

yeah, I ain't fornn this self for me. Damn

42:15

what y'all talking about? So yeah, I was locked in

42:18

from day one with them guys. That's what's up. Trash

42:20

talking is an art, I think, probably

42:22

to me, I may miss some guys, but you m g P

42:25

were the best at it. Where'd that come from? I'm gonna

42:27

top ten, I'm

42:30

gonna be top five. I'm talking. I always

42:32

say that the trash talking, you gotta be able to back

42:34

it up, right, So the first thing about

42:36

trash talking is I

42:39

would I would actually consider who was talking

42:41

to trash and then if they have the ability to back

42:44

it up the weather. I was going to actually engage with somebody,

42:46

But then you got that, and y'all noticed, you got the trash

42:49

bagging the gut here talking and

42:52

then shutting niggers up, and you just

42:55

stow as something. I'm I'm I'm

42:58

just going and seeing like if

43:00

the trash talk and get to a point where I got you not

43:03

talking no more, that's the worst thing you can never do.

43:05

And trash talking you have to continue. I told you two

43:08

ways to go and trash talk matter what. And if

43:10

you decide to continue to trash talk and keep

43:12

going. You gotta keep it up. So the

43:14

minute I not add you out and now now you're

43:17

not all No, you're exhausted, ain't got no more.

43:19

Man, get this somethings things right.

43:21

It's so I gotta step on you. And that's how it

43:23

usually was. But once I started seeing the

43:25

trash talk affect people, it

43:28

was it was. It was different for me from how I

43:30

used it. Was it someone that you loved,

43:32

You knew that mothercker back it up, and he was gonna

43:34

talking to you, believe it or not. You'll

43:37

Tim Duncan, Tim Duncan, Timmy,

43:40

Tim Duncan. People would not see him verbally

43:42

seeing stuff because he wasn't

43:44

talking sentences

43:48

TI, Timmy, we'll hit you in phrases. Got

43:50

you almost just

43:55

the worst right here. Nice

43:57

try like

44:00

subtle ship, no games to ship, no real

44:02

hardcore ship, just to

44:04

subtlely to just back your grass

44:07

up and put you back in like this overhead

44:10

like you know, and then we're really

44:12

really really really really pissed

44:14

me off. Was when the trash dog and wasn't affecting

44:17

him. So now you're spending all this

44:19

energy trying to rouse us up. You know, forgot about your

44:21

own game. You forgot about they're coming

44:23

to you that you're supposed to do. And then

44:25

that's when I actually went quick talking trash

44:27

to Tim because he wouldn't respond or he wasn't giving

44:29

me the reaction. I was like, I

44:31

can't really get hyperp. This thing ain't even giving me

44:33

nothing even looking now, you know, start you know, doing a

44:35

little you know, the shoulder ship and he won't react to

44:37

that and said, you know, Timmy got

44:41

like I like, so then I started

44:43

changing that, you know, and then it was natural too.

44:45

Sometimes you just you went to it, you know, two

44:47

dogs meet in the middle and me and to be what it

44:49

is so, you know, but I didn't

44:52

understand that sometimes with him. I

44:54

used to come out of the game and Pop just screaming and him

44:56

cursing him out, and I'm sitting down there and you're

44:59

letting this motherfucker to talk to you like this. You're Tim

45:01

Duncan and saying nothing. So when Pop

45:03

come to me, I gotta be like, but I

45:06

say, Timing taking it, I gotta

45:08

take it. But it made me a better player,

45:10

It made me coachable, you know what I'm saying. But at first, soon

45:12

as Popcorn maybe get the funk out of my face. You

45:14

know what I'm saying. But I see you going off on Tim. I

45:16

gotta be able to take. I watched Gary Payton

45:18

control Karen Baden and Charles Barkley

45:21

was two of the arguably best trash talkers I ever

45:23

experienced. I saw Gary Payton control

45:25

the referees, his coach, my

45:27

coach, the crowd, the lady

45:30

in the front, the guy who was on the side of the

45:32

Minnesota game sitting the bucket. He was

45:34

controlling the whole game. I

45:37

watched GP back down

45:40

the guard from UH

45:42

base signed the baseline, talking the whole time.

45:45

Shut your ass up, show up,

45:47

twitch, Hey, get this grass in here.

45:50

Hey, come up. Hey. You see

45:52

the hand on the hill calling if you see he just

45:55

like he

45:58

made you know all this talking to

46:00

me? You play calling the plate and

46:02

throwing the bat like yo, and still

46:04

scoring the ball, stealing the ball, affected

46:07

in the in the huddle, he and the huddle, He got the

46:09

thing. He drawing it up like

46:12

yo. GP to me was like masterful.

46:14

Charles Barkley was another level trash talking

46:16

because he would end up fighting you

46:19

or trying to fight you, but he

46:21

and still fearing everybody on the court.

46:24

Gary Payton actually used it to

46:26

get fouls, to get his teammates

46:28

files, to uh get guys

46:31

in and out, like he was just he was just a control

46:33

free you know. And if you went to a part of with

46:35

Gary, he was doing the same thing with a dream set like

46:44

this is just who GP is. Yeah,

46:46

I saw you know, so I guess that would kind

46:49

of be my example of if the yeah,

46:51

GP was kind of my example of what I wanted

46:53

to But I give Gary shout the GP

46:55

man. We was in the everybody's

46:58

talking about the twenty anniversary events winning

47:00

the Dunk Contest in Oakland. Right. What

47:02

y'all don't know is that Kobe Bryant

47:04

rest in peace to my dog. He took

47:06

another level of being a defensive

47:09

standpoint because Garrett Payton at the practice

47:11

after after practice all Star practice, poured

47:14

us to the side because Code asked him something. They

47:16

pulled both of us to the side, So let me tell y'all something.

47:18

Look when you're playing defense. And then he went through

47:20

a thirty minute joint with both of us

47:22

with defense and keeping us

47:24

between the landing and reaching and how to reach and

47:27

when you reach up and just slew tricks of

47:29

the trade. That next time I saw cold after

47:31

the break he was using it came first

47:33

team that year, the first time I've seen I said, he used

47:35

that. Sorry saw

47:37

it saw I

47:43

caught that. But I

47:46

knew that only the three of us was part of that. So

47:48

I was like, you got the said

47:50

I thought it wasn't call that ship because

47:53

GP taught us when you ripped somebody to go through

47:55

the chest versus usually your hand.

47:58

You see this right, He told to take a step

48:00

and come through your chess and comp and then ground out.

48:02

There's no way you can protect the ball. You can't

48:04

cross it back once you get there once I mean your cab,

48:06

you can't cross it up. You just have to turn your back.

48:08

Oh, Mary, I saw Coke take that first night

48:11

after the break. I saw it. You know, we

48:13

want no texting and none of that back then. But when I

48:15

first saw him, I shot there was stated right here.

48:17

When I saw him, I knew exactly what I was talking about.

48:20

GP for that, you know, doubt. So

48:22

you experienced I mean, obviously Minnesota it

48:25

was your first landing spot, and you experienced

48:28

a lot of after you got going, a lot of personal

48:30

success. But as a team,

48:32

you guys weren't so it's competitive. These

48:34

are as much as you wanted to win. How

48:36

did that affect you? Because you're doing well, you're making all

48:38

star teams, eventually winning the m v P, but

48:41

your team is not moving the way you wanted to move.

48:43

You know what, man? I I was? I

48:46

was? I was. I was drowning

48:48

in my own success, if you will, Like

48:51

once I started saying like the owner that wasn't on

48:53

the same page as as growing

48:55

and making a team better like other teams.

48:57

And then I got friends that were on other teams, and

49:00

you know, teams are getting better and they're going out trying to

49:02

make doing all this, and I would always feel

49:04

like I was in the same spot

49:06

as last and that was frustrating.

49:08

And then too, I wasn't the most outspoken. I

49:10

wasn't gonna. I didn't see where coming out

49:13

here talking about the owner of the team was going to actually

49:15

give me something like

49:18

it didn't work like that. And at

49:20

the end of the day, you have to carry that out when you do ship

49:22

like that and stuff like that in this league

49:24

comes back on because the owners talk and

49:26

there's a buddy buddy system and if you

49:28

didn't, you know, watch Cabins whole

49:31

situation that I'll tell you that it's a

49:34

it's a good boys club, you know what I'm saying. So it's

49:36

it's definitely a being of boys club.

49:38

So I understood that right off. So

49:40

I want to affect what I could do,

49:43

and I would just focus on things that I

49:45

can control, and when I had a chance

49:47

to um change that, I

49:49

did. But you know, it

49:51

was very frustrating putting everything into

49:54

something and knowing that you need the other

49:56

half to be able to complete these certain steps.

49:58

So when I had a first if you're

50:00

going to the playoffs, then you get put out the playoffs

50:02

eighth straight times, it's like like here we

50:04

go again, and it's almost like thinking

50:06

like, okay, the next time is the next time? Then

50:08

I actually get there, we get past it, we get

50:11

there, and then now I'm thinking like, Okay, got

50:13

tasted and now now I know what it takes. But

50:15

you need these parts and if throw nobody encryptre

50:17

to have these parts, man,

50:20

yeah, yeah, man, you can only control. So the

50:22

Boston thing for me was it wasn't

50:24

about anything else. I wanted to win

50:27

in Minnesota and I wanted to be the first to UH.

50:30

I want to be the first to bring a championship to the city,

50:32

but I need the other parts to it. And if

50:34

Lynn wasn't gonna step up and do those things, then

50:37

I have to actually make a career move. And

50:40

I should have left a little earlier than I did, just because

50:42

body wise and what I want to bring to it,

50:44

Because when you play at a certain level, your body is

50:47

the one that takes the beating on it. And

50:50

when I got to Boston, I felt like I

50:52

was a well prepared professional

50:55

athlete that can articulate itself to the owner

50:58

on what I expect out of it. So me

51:00

and we're grolspect got on the same lines. For

51:03

where me and Glenn Taylor disconnected. I got

51:05

on the same page with him very

51:07

early, and it wasn't cool, and there

51:09

was some smoke involved and we figured

51:11

it out. But I wanted him to understand

51:13

what I was as a man, and I

51:15

ain't none of these pions that you used to

51:18

win. Here, You're gonna talk to me with some fucking

51:20

respect, and I'm a man first, homie,

51:22

and I stood on that. Give a funk.

51:24

I make bread too, I got a plane too, I

51:27

do that too. So what you're saying, right,

51:30

they're coming from the name on the back, not

51:32

the name on the not the name on the front.

51:34

And that's how I shot at at me. You know, we

51:37

we got an understand it because of I guess his

51:39

relationship with Antoine and and Paul

51:41

and him being comfortable. I didn't want to make

51:43

him comfortable. I didn't want him comfortable with me, because

51:46

when you're comfortable, you say anything when you're drunk

51:48

or you're feeling good. No, I want you to always

51:50

be on be on line with me always,

51:52

Hey, what's up? How you doing? Keep it moving. So

51:55

when I came in, I came in that demeanor, and

51:57

it made the relationship a lot better because

52:00

it was all about respect Russus, the intangibles

52:02

and all the bullshit that comes sometimes getting

52:05

between that make things rough. Sometimes

52:07

summer of those seven you end up going

52:09

to Boston. But that was our we believe

52:12

here. That's when we put a bunch

52:14

of misfits together and and did

52:16

some crazy ship the last half of the season made

52:18

NBA history, beat the first first eight

52:20

seed, being the number one seed. Dirk was m VP that year. We

52:22

busted the whole team's asked, beat him

52:24

down? How did how did Dirk

52:27

win m VP that year? You know, you

52:29

know, like y'all don't notice, but the m

52:31

v P up until dirt you

52:33

had to get out of the first round to be able

52:36

to be considered the m v P, or they would

52:38

go ahead and give it to somebody else. This is when

52:40

the Mark Cuban effect comes into play,

52:42

when your owner goes to your back

52:45

and goes goes for your back and actually does

52:47

a campaign on his behalf to

52:49

his board of partners. And

52:52

that had to go into play at some point because

52:55

when you when y'all did that,

52:57

that totally ripped a hole in the whole

52:59

plan of whatever it was supposed to be. That was not supposed

53:01

to happen. So now you got the whole

53:04

thing on the backs of these misfits who

53:07

coming in here doing something that they weren't supposed to

53:09

what, whoa, whoa what y'll not the

53:11

matre show man, what are y'all doing? And then look what

53:14

hot what messed it up?

53:16

Y'all wasn't supposed to do that? And not in

53:18

the same the first thing I said, this man haws, this man,

53:20

when the MVP gonna

53:23

be quiet? When

53:26

he was. He was watching it, bro I watched

53:28

it his head on swivel when I was, And

53:31

before you know, you had the whole NBA

53:33

just riding with y'all. So that that ship was Gorge

53:35

nell because NELLI helped build that team, and Nelly

53:37

was the first one to put me in. Jack on Dirk, so

53:40

we put smaller, stronger people in. Every

53:42

time he turned, he was on his ass. He knew it

53:44

and just bullied the funk out. We're

53:48

gonna fight. Early Dirk did not

53:50

want know he was. He was very

53:52

fragile. He listen. I say two things

53:54

about Dirk Palla Gasolt and y'all mean.

53:58

They are justiced so fast.

54:02

I saw Sean Bradley punk y'all mean

54:04

in preseason, and I don't know

54:06

what Steve Francis said that y'all mean. But

54:09

the next night I saw him, he

54:12

would dunking their mom and dropped stepping

54:14

in and that was the y'all mean I had known to. Dirk

54:17

did the same thing. First time I I played Dirk,

54:19

I got a sense of fear from him, so I played

54:21

at that I was dunking out. You know, Dallas

54:24

got these mics in the room sill when you stream,

54:26

you sound like you recking in there. Oh

54:28

man, great atmosphere to play, right, that's

54:30

great atmosphere. Shout the Mark human

54:32

too, man, because he changed a lot of coach in the NBA,

54:35

y'all. A lot of people don't know. Man. He started feeding

54:37

players way before any

54:39

of this. He started feeding both sides

54:41

of like competition and his own players,

54:44

Like when you after the after the game, y'all,

54:46

do you know? I had to either have the ball boys running

54:48

across the street and grab some taco bell

54:50

or some fucking McDonald's or something upstairs in

54:52

the concurd to be able to have food, or

54:55

and then I'm I'm eighteen nineteen. I can't get

54:57

in no strip Claude, can't get in nothing after

54:59

the No, young fella, you can't come in here. We

55:01

ain't in Sherman dreams too. Yeah you gotta. It

55:04

was almost like I had to go through the back door something

55:06

dog like being young in the league

55:08

or No. It was a whole another. But Mark Cuban

55:10

started providing real meals. I'm talking about

55:13

like barbecue like grandmother,

55:15

like you got them Green's Colleague's

55:17

two different meals chicken fried,

55:19

this that moth.

55:25

You know what I did, dog, I used to make my food

55:27

and walk all around and thank

55:29

him because just to shoot out there, I say, Mr Mark Cuban,

55:31

thank you for the food. Man. I appreciate it. Now

55:33

the food is like a customary thing. Now you

55:36

gotta have it in the league. But he started

55:38

Cuban started all that. He was also

55:40

one of the leaders too. If you look at his organization

55:43

to pp hired. He got a lot of

55:45

players that played for him working for

55:47

him now, right, and knowledge

55:50

that all

55:52

these teams, a lot of teams that got ex players

55:54

that that won't job. I want to work for the teams

55:56

they played for. Locking Mark Cuban's co from

55:58

coaching rosters to work to Mike Failey working in

56:00

the office. But it's a lot of his players. You gotta

56:02

get them credit for that. Listen, man, I'm

56:05

banking that at some point Dirk's gonna buy

56:07

into the team and he's gonna probably

56:10

mean It's only right. Rest

56:12

in piece of my dog. I was waiting on Cold to do the

56:14

same thing though. Real talk to you know, I

56:16

tell p all the time he was with Boston, you

56:18

should be able to have the ability. I think that if you put

56:21

enough Blusod sweating tears in these organizations,

56:23

you should have at least the option to be able to buy into

56:26

or be able to have a piece of hell you help building. And

56:29

then let's not give it. You learned that. I'm saying

56:31

that I got the Minnesota man,

56:33

that ship was like worth eighty nine million or summer

56:35

he paid a couple of joints. Man, we got in tears,

56:38

and that she was almost at a billion. Man.

56:40

You know, like you don't get none of that. You know, you don't

56:42

get none of that, that appreciation for that,

56:45

but you know that culture and what people know and

56:47

why they're coming to the games. You built all

56:49

that and sweat blood and equity, and you don't get a

56:51

choice to be in that. That has to change at

56:53

some point. I love it. So, like

56:55

I said, we did that, and we did that No. Seven

56:57

and then we heard rumors. I don't know if if you even

57:00

even heard the ship, but we it was word that

57:02

we were going after you for

57:04

a whole package and you were supposed to come complete

57:07

us as our centerpiece to our

57:09

crazy that. Yeah, I

57:11

heard about you all man. This

57:16

So we've been we've been talking about this for

57:18

years we spoke, we heard

57:21

it like when we heard on the team we treamed was tripping

57:24

sitting anybody man KG sting the whole team

57:26

and coach anybody we need KG.

57:30

We never know you knew about. I looked at it like this. I

57:32

was like, man, I got one chance at this. I

57:36

had I had, I

57:38

had Oakland, I had Phoenix,

57:41

I had the Lakers, and I had the Celtics,

57:44

and uh, just being honest with everybody,

57:47

I wanted to link with Cold because Cob and I

57:49

had like not listen to me, Covid,

57:52

I had like a different, a different connect

57:54

like when Covid Shaq went went went

57:57

on their little thing. A lot of people went

57:59

with Shock, A lot of people with ann any fun with code

58:01

you know code whatever I want

58:03

to want the very few that just stayed with him

58:05

and just I was a neutral guy anyway. I

58:07

showed everybody love, but

58:10

cold respect dog

58:13

like like the like real like

58:15

real cat star. If you ever noticed,

58:18

he never really got into it with somebody

58:20

that he really respected, you know what I'm

58:22

saying. Like I watched when you and him went out

58:24

and you threw the ball, he flinched. It

58:26

was a formal respect there that he was. They

58:28

was talking. Nobody noticed, but they was

58:30

talking same things, like like I wish she was him,

58:33

and with this ball, you got more respect to me than that.

58:35

So him and Matt was already knew that. But players

58:38

notice, and then you already

58:40

know who I'm if we get into it and we get

58:42

the tech, it's verbal were bumping,

58:44

we're bumping. I'm already knowing what he's saying

58:46

to me without even talking. So that's

58:49

how we real ship, like not

58:51

even thinking. That's how players actually

58:54

was talking to dealing with each other. So whenever

58:56

I was watching him get into it with somebody and he actually

58:58

would get into it was either because he

59:00

didn't respect them and it went like that, or

59:02

he respect them and then went a whole another way. Yeah,

59:05

people don't know. That's how like we got into it. In two thousand

59:07

and ten, the ball fake ship, Like he was the first person

59:09

called me free agency, like, yo, you want to come

59:11

to your laker, anyone crazy enough to funk with me? And he

59:14

went and got roun the year before when Ron was and he's

59:16

and he's like, I'm tired of resting with you. Crazy Motherfucker's

59:18

come funk with me. What.

59:20

I tried to link with him and I couldn't get him

59:23

on the line, and uh

59:26

he was like, Yo, man, ship man, let's do what's

59:28

gonna do? Shu? You know? Pitch? You

59:31

know I'm saying. And

59:35

Chauncey and t Lou we used to all work

59:37

out together in l A. And we was all together

59:39

and um Minnesota. When they say that

59:41

you can go talk to people, that's when they're done with you.

59:44

They give you permission to go talk to other teams.

59:46

And when they give you permission to entertain

59:49

other other options, they over you

59:51

and they moved on. So y'all don't know, Yo, I

59:53

get up at like four thirty. You know why I get

59:55

up at four thirty because I live in l

59:57

A. And it's a cat New York getting up at seven.

1:00:00

He up already working already, askedly

1:00:02

if he got up at six. I'm an hour and thirty

1:00:05

behind this cat, So I uhould think like this Mari

1:00:08

in New York. It's some cats on the East Coast.

1:00:10

They already working in Atlanta. Damn, I'm late.

1:00:12

So I used to hit the beasts like four thirty,

1:00:15

and then I used to you know, I used to go through all

1:00:17

this with with the workout in the gym, and then

1:00:19

I'm done by like twelve right, And

1:00:22

then I used to think like, damn, you know, they don't even respect

1:00:24

that. And then you get up and through this every day like this

1:00:27

and they're gonna let me go. So I started losing appreciation

1:00:30

for them appreciating me. I

1:00:32

was like, you know what, somewhere somebody else gonna show

1:00:34

you some love, you know, or so you hope so. And

1:00:36

then I sat with chauncing them because they used to meet

1:00:38

me in the workout in the middle of the workout when we went to the

1:00:40

gym and they was like Chuns like, dog,

1:00:43

you gotta get off that ship him

1:00:45

and t Lew was just sawing me like, yo, you gotta this show

1:00:47

chance to go get with somebody. You can give

1:00:49

him somebody, really, you can man that same shoot

1:00:51

you during the soda boy, you're gonna put there with somebody

1:00:53

else beco you you know what I'm saying. So I was

1:00:55

like, shoot, I shouted at Kobe when he picked

1:00:57

the line up, you know what I'm saying. So t louis

1:01:00

cold close and he was like shoot out

1:01:02

of me again, see what he owns so I shouted, he

1:01:04

hit back. I had to make a decision

1:01:06

coming down and then, um,

1:01:08

you know I'm making decisions by my selfish

1:01:10

it so just the first time I gotta. I'm talking

1:01:12

to my my, my, my wife at the

1:01:14

time, and I'm like asking her like and she's

1:01:16

like, go with your gut. So it's like

1:01:18

ship. Danny Ainge flew in and he just got

1:01:21

right to it and showed the vision.

1:01:24

The vision he was saying, you have but have somebody

1:01:27

talk to you. And as they talk to you,

1:01:29

you can see what they're saying so much that you're

1:01:31

not even looking at them no more. But

1:01:34

that's how he was painting, and he was Picasso.

1:01:37

And this is Danny Ainge's greatness

1:01:39

and him being able to lull your in his charming

1:01:41

ass. You know what I'm saying. I didn't even

1:01:43

know he was finessing me and we was doing that, you

1:01:45

know what I'm saying. What I'm saying

1:01:48

saucy like a mom. Right. But

1:01:51

then what I did know, Um, I

1:01:53

had watched him a couple of times and when

1:01:55

I first saw film of Rondo in

1:01:58

in masson Square Guard, he got the cray easy

1:02:00

clip if he scored the ball. I think

1:02:02

he stole it and didn't get an end one and something.

1:02:04

So I saw that, but I thought his name,

1:02:07

my my A D d As thought he was African

1:02:09

or some ship. So I was like, yeah,

1:02:11

what's up with the little African guards.

1:02:16

You're talking about Sebastian. Nah,

1:02:18

I know, Sebashian, I'm talking about the little the little

1:02:21

the little African net So you're

1:02:24

like African. I'm like, yeah,

1:02:28

you know or something. He

1:02:30

was like, you're like you're talking about

1:02:33

you're talking about Rondo, Like, yeah,

1:02:37

you gotta keep you gotta keep the African

1:02:39

kid, y'all. I'll come to

1:02:41

balls. You gotta keep the African kid because he was in the

1:02:43

package. I was like, it's like I

1:02:45

think he's doing us now. We can't do it then.

1:02:48

And then I actually called Steve Nash

1:02:50

just the courtesy, and

1:02:54

I guess the call he

1:02:56

hit me back was like, yo, if you come down

1:02:58

here, we need you

1:03:00

to take a major pay cut. And

1:03:04

I was like, Okay, if I come down there, I'm playing

1:03:06

with you. I'm playing with you and us maori

1:03:08

right yeah, I think they're gonna give

1:03:10

a maori up for you and and and

1:03:13

Sean, and I said so I want me this me

1:03:15

and you was like yeah. I was like, so

1:03:19

I gotta pake a pay cut and then I gotta

1:03:21

get back in this position. And we're in the west to y'all,

1:03:23

so this ain't you know. I'm sitting here like,

1:03:25

man,

1:03:30

think about all this ship. You

1:03:33

know what I'm saying. So I just sat on. It's like, no,

1:03:36

I'm going to being town pluses the East Coast.

1:03:38

I ain't ever playing the East Coast. So you didn't give us a

1:03:40

thought when I looked

1:03:42

at all my options at the respect,

1:03:50

because I was saying, how y'all was,

1:03:53

but I needed I needed a superstar in that

1:03:55

whole mixture. Always y'allwy was like some bandits.

1:03:58

You always like the It's

1:04:00

like the little the little rats on City of Guard

1:04:02

running around still and shot respect

1:04:06

the little I'm saying, the rats

1:04:09

y'all of Guard rap

1:04:11

the little nigs and that they all man, they

1:04:13

was little hood as they ran the street.

1:04:16

That's how y'all was played. Y'all was like,

1:04:18

oh man, they switched everything. They got this unorthodox.

1:04:21

You're thinking Stephen hire Ballochie stopping

1:04:23

hitting the three. Now I get up. He ain't

1:04:25

dunking that like it was just so unorthodox

1:04:28

at the time that you had had the whole

1:04:30

league like off the square like

1:04:33

and then it's like they look like they just

1:04:35

having fun. I can't come over there, my serious

1:04:38

asters

1:04:40

as is everything, you know what, I'm just

1:04:42

looking at like I don't want to play against

1:04:44

him. You know, on the inside,

1:04:46

we're looking at it like, boy, we can KG

1:04:51

with beach pace beaches with KG.

1:04:54

It's a difference, wow, with

1:04:56

all of us on the outside actually

1:04:59

having somebody throwing up because you know, I had to go out,

1:05:01

y'all mean, and then when y'all

1:05:03

don't know every man, I was shopping. But when

1:05:06

y'all mean turn it's really nothing nobody

1:05:08

can do. Y'all like like

1:05:10

y'all jump shots like all the way

1:05:13

up here, like you're like on the turnaround

1:05:15

and you're like, man,

1:05:20

two days off after we played,

1:05:22

y'all, and you know what, I used to actually keep

1:05:24

him out the paint if

1:05:26

you do, if you do your work early, and that's

1:05:29

the that's the kind of the lingo and where you don't

1:05:31

let him come down and sit on the block. Man,

1:05:33

y'all mean, can damn to be at the three

1:05:35

point line and do the same turnaround and hit

1:05:37

it like it was nothing. Yeah, it was touch

1:05:39

all. Shout to y'all mean man,

1:05:42

that will be another y'all mean like that man

1:05:44

he was. He was something special straight

1:05:46

up. But um, I ended up doing the Boston

1:05:49

thing and they know draft night, they got

1:05:51

Ray and uh it made the whole deal a

1:05:53

lot sweeter and we was we was going after

1:05:55

that bro. I knew we was going to no bullshot.

1:05:57

I knew he was gonna win that ship. The first time I we

1:06:00

stepped into like the first like you know how like September

1:06:02

coming you all work out together, and I saw how the

1:06:04

how that ship was. I had never been in like

1:06:07

a first workout with guys I had never played

1:06:09

with and it was just it was just, it

1:06:11

was just it was just. And then the

1:06:14

guys we was playing against, James Posey fucking

1:06:16

like, we were just playing a bunch of the next Eddie

1:06:19

House, a bunch of just man

1:06:22

go get us big perp Leon

1:06:25

Poe, big baby in here. And

1:06:27

they won there just the first

1:06:30

year we was all together and it was just I

1:06:33

heard folks come in, I heard folks tell

1:06:35

the story about when we first played. You

1:06:37

know what I'm saying, like it was. But the synergy

1:06:39

was that day one. I knew, I knew we had a chance

1:06:41

to get somewhere that we was not normal

1:06:43

from what I was doing. This

1:06:45

This wasn't normal. This was above average right here.

1:06:48

This is what I was looking for. So you guys

1:06:50

kind of started, I mean through a different process.

1:06:52

But the big three, you mean Paul

1:06:55

yourself, you get Ray, draft Knight and

1:06:57

the synergy instead. So you know, the

1:06:59

synergy an instant. Yeah,

1:07:04

I guess when you put it like that, Yeah, and it

1:07:06

Verny and it Burt. We wasn't like mapping

1:07:08

it out like that. I think Ray was

1:07:10

trying to come back East too, because

1:07:12

of his uh, you know, he had foundings

1:07:15

in Connecticut and family

1:07:18

that was you know, in that area or whatever. So

1:07:20

he was just trying to come back and transition

1:07:23

and kind of let that be like to tell and and be on

1:07:25

that side. So I think it was all just synergy

1:07:28

with him, and it just saw came together.

1:07:31

It helped that Paul and I was friends. I knew

1:07:33

Ray uh and I we were friends,

1:07:36

but we didn't know none of the younger guys. T A

1:07:38

was a younger version of Chicago. When I was in Chicago,

1:07:42

Um Leon Poe. It was all younger

1:07:44

versions, big baby, there was all younger versions.

1:07:47

I had new Perk had played against Perk. Perk

1:07:49

and I used to play like we used

1:07:51

to bang. I mean, like really have issues with

1:07:53

each other to where I had

1:07:55

to ask me like, yo, you know me coming over

1:07:58

that Perk gonna be okay because man, you don't know like

1:08:00

when we go at it, we're really about to fight. He'd

1:08:03

be like, you know how like if one person like

1:08:06

yeah, bam, I want to

1:08:08

gonna wait you know how

1:08:12

did you come down like that? I was just like, yeah, way this head

1:08:15

nigga like coming out here

1:08:17

like cold life, can you trash?

1:08:19

I'm not gonna interact with you nigger, like who is

1:08:21

this? Not knowing that he's coming out of high school.

1:08:24

You're looking up to me trying to keep trying

1:08:26

to you know, we're trying to trying to. I

1:08:29

raised it, but I'm like that you don't do who

1:08:31

is nig who ken who? Nobody?

1:08:35

Nobody gave him TWITL like

1:08:37

real quick, better get this nobody

1:08:39

off me out here? Who you talk? I

1:08:42

ain't no nobot you

1:08:48

want

1:08:53

yeah, yeah, yeah saying

1:08:57

what you're saying speak up. Never been ahead of

1:09:00

speak up. You ain't talking

1:09:03

loud enough. And we both got texts.

1:09:06

You know what I'm saying. But I'm but I'm going turn

1:09:10

on that team. They a bunch of young cats, Al Jefferson.

1:09:12

So I'm in here goldtending their ship, throwing

1:09:14

it piece. No, that sh it out of here

1:09:17

mine. You know what I'm saying. It's messing with him seeing

1:09:19

what you know what they you know, he was so

1:09:22

they you know, as we say, I'm see if he's gonna

1:09:24

scratch, they scratch it. Okay,

1:09:27

Yeah, I like these young casts. I knew what I had

1:09:29

with that, you know what I'm saying, because it was a whole bunch of

1:09:31

young guys coming up in the league that

1:09:33

we was needing to have some young guys that kind of

1:09:36

you know, met that too, So it was good.

1:09:38

Tell me what it was like getting a chance to play with

1:09:40

Paul Pierce, because to me, he's one of the most underrated,

1:09:42

most scores clutch motherfucker's in the history

1:09:45

of the games foot time listen

1:09:47

man. Me and he played together very young

1:09:49

in life. And uh, if anybody

1:09:51

know, pp is very similar to like a Steph

1:09:54

or like AI when I interact

1:09:56

with like um, I would say a bigger

1:09:58

ego than mine. I played

1:10:00

the second and if anybody knows

1:10:03

me, know that I'm a very confident person, very

1:10:05

sure person, and I can play the side.

1:10:07

I'm never gonna play the front. If it's

1:10:09

the side door, I'm off to the side. I'm

1:10:11

more of a shadow person. My

1:10:13

Nika is a totally opposite. Now you

1:10:15

want to come through the front door room and ignore

1:10:18

the trophy gonna You know, he swagged

1:10:20

so with that. He was always

1:10:23

able to back that up and when we was talking

1:10:25

trash, when we got into whatever, it

1:10:27

wasn't something that he couldn't get himself out of. But

1:10:29

that's how he operated. He needed that that

1:10:32

extra whatever that owned for that or that swacked

1:10:34

to get him to perpetuate. And

1:10:37

uh, I saw him in some

1:10:39

of the most critical moments be

1:10:42

very calm and very even played

1:10:45

and even killed to where he

1:10:47

was so sure of himself to

1:10:49

where he took big shots and he hit him

1:10:51

my face. My favorite, my favorite p joint is him

1:10:53

and now Harrington. People don't

1:10:55

know that these two are really good friends,

1:10:57

and we're all really good friends, and

1:11:00

these are two monsters. If

1:11:02

anybody know, al al a backing

1:11:05

down from nothing. You

1:11:07

know what I'm saying, like, al ain't going nowhere.

1:11:09

Y'all think Jack, like imagine

1:11:12

Jack. Well now I can't say that with another two

1:11:14

hundred pounds, but Alice just right like

1:11:18

matterwhere p Jack, you get the

1:11:20

same, you better come with a hard

1:11:22

hat. And when he was talking that

1:11:24

ship and I'm going to hit you in the here right here,

1:11:27

you know that, you know right now, let

1:11:29

me see it and then let me say, okay, you want to see it. And I was like,

1:11:31

oh when p hits like

1:11:34

so that's one of my favorite basketball

1:11:36

moments just because both of those guys and my friends.

1:11:38

But I was able to take something from

1:11:40

Paul that some of that even killed, some of that calmness,

1:11:43

some of that that laser like you know, you

1:11:45

think you focused until you see somebody else, do

1:11:47

there or go through there or whatever. And

1:11:50

I was able to, you know, take some of that calmness

1:11:52

and incorporated into some of my own games. Who

1:11:54

I thought it made me a better player. But

1:11:57

mom t is probably one of the more underrated

1:12:00

players of all times that we that we have in

1:12:02

our history that don't get enough slack

1:12:04

for, don't get enough for recognition in my tape.

1:12:07

You were able to help bring back

1:12:10

the Celtics Laker

1:12:13

rivalry. You guys met

1:12:15

in the finals. You guys got one, they got one. Tell

1:12:17

me what it was like going against Shack and Kobe with your

1:12:19

squad before I got

1:12:21

to Boston, our battle the Lakers.

1:12:24

It was always the premier game. It was nothing

1:12:26

less. Playing Shock was

1:12:28

always uh entertaining, It

1:12:30

was always hierarchy

1:12:33

was always um. It

1:12:35

was always the pitacle. Uh.

1:12:37

Cobe and I knew each other. Shock and I would

1:12:39

befriend each other and become friends later. Um.

1:12:43

But the matchups was always high end,

1:12:45

there was always electric.

1:12:47

I was always felt like I was under man. So

1:12:50

when I had perk, who would who battle? Who

1:12:52

would battle anybody and don't care about

1:12:54

anything? Right, Um,

1:12:57

Shack was in Cleveland as we was making

1:12:59

our run and stuff, so I felt like this is

1:13:01

a great time to have redemption on that whole

1:13:03

COVID Shock thing in the West.

1:13:06

I felt like this was redemption and

1:13:08

now you know that was kind of separated

1:13:10

so that when I when I actually went up against both of

1:13:12

those guys, that felt like a payback from me. But

1:13:15

um,

1:13:18

that ship won less than one less than

1:13:20

magical, like epic, like not

1:13:23

a lot of ship talking out here, but it's a lot of

1:13:25

buckets, it's a lot of it's a lot of

1:13:27

tapping. This a lot of you know, it's a lot.

1:13:31

You better get over here, like you know what I'm saying,

1:13:33

And there's a bunch of it now.

1:13:35

I ain't no switching. And

1:13:38

it was when both ways. Even though the

1:13:40

big fellow was big and he knew he was a house,

1:13:42

I told him he came out to Cleveland

1:13:44

and then doctors like yo, I needed to guard

1:13:47

Shock for like two minutes. I was like, holy shit,

1:13:50

garding Shock is like holding up the side of a house,

1:13:52

y'all. I was trying to see a wall

1:13:54

in here and see if it's a wall. I can't even describe

1:13:57

it. But I played Shock for two

1:13:59

minutes. I couldn't give nobody no high five.

1:14:01

I was just like us,

1:14:05

was so tired, y'all. I couldn't.

1:14:07

I couldn't Like if you slap me, I would have to be

1:14:09

like you know what I'm saying, I couldn't

1:14:11

even go. I couldn't even protect myself. But

1:14:14

playing those two brought the best out of you

1:14:17

every time you played them. Um.

1:14:19

Every time you played Kovid was nothing shy or

1:14:21

nothing, nothing less than the electric

1:14:24

and it was all about winds.

1:14:26

It was all about wins and rings. And

1:14:28

when I got to Boston it was just it was just just

1:14:31

different times. But I've always enjoyed

1:14:33

playing against those guys. It was always a challenge

1:14:36

to play those guys, and it was always hard to get

1:14:38

a win on the move. You know what I'm saying straight

1:14:41

up? So Hall of Fame career,

1:14:44

I mean, you'll be going inducted. How

1:14:47

do I mean? Tell me what that kid from South Carolina

1:14:49

that came up the way you came up my mom's working graveyard.

1:14:51

You having to do what you have to do to ever think

1:14:54

that five years later you could be abducting

1:14:56

to the Hall of Fame. Tell me what that feels like. I never thought

1:14:58

that. I never really I never really say I

1:15:00

really never put that on the goal, never put that

1:15:02

on the paper. It was all about busting

1:15:04

these guys that asked right here and crossing their name

1:15:06

out. It was always about being

1:15:08

the best in this right here and putting your name at the

1:15:11

top and that and that and that was

1:15:13

it. I never really imagine

1:15:15

taking this and being global. I never had

1:15:17

a vision of that. I just wanted to be able

1:15:20

to have a list of motherfucker that you thought was better

1:15:22

than me, and I want to bust all they asked, and

1:15:24

that was it. Cobad to kill list too. We talked

1:15:26

about kill

1:15:28

list. What you're doing. You got no vision who

1:15:31

you're chasing, who you being? Who the king in the

1:15:33

mountain? Like right, that's what That's

1:15:35

what competition is. It's about who's

1:15:37

on the king of the mountain, who's on top, and how and

1:15:39

how you can take him off that or her, you

1:15:42

know what I'm saying, like straight up. And then that's

1:15:44

polishing your tools and at the same time pushing

1:15:47

it. You know, you gotta push this line of creativity.

1:15:50

You gotta push the lines of competition. You

1:15:52

gotta push this line of originality, you

1:15:54

know, like for me, that that's everything. Jack

1:15:57

and I asked someone who we've talked about this with other guests,

1:16:00

you know, guys that use cannabis

1:16:02

throughout our career because we felt like it helped us

1:16:04

sleep, paying focus or whatever.

1:16:06

Whatever. What do you think how with the narrative

1:16:09

finally shifting about cannabis, what about your

1:16:11

thoughts about cannabis and sports. I think education,

1:16:13

man. I think when it comes to cannabis, people

1:16:16

have to understand that. I

1:16:18

think they see cannabis and the recreational use,

1:16:20

and the educational has to come out about the

1:16:23

about the healing

1:16:25

parts of them, the benefits of it. I

1:16:28

think I think as a society, society meaning

1:16:30

that it's some more older, more

1:16:32

older society thinking of the ways of recreations

1:16:35

to some more millennials and younger kisses

1:16:37

really exposed and giving this education to

1:16:40

the benefits and um. I think

1:16:42

our society is changing and I think everybody's

1:16:44

starting to see this more and more importantly

1:16:46

the benefits. I think the sooners

1:16:49

they get CBDs into sports,

1:16:51

I think we'll start to see a bigger change.

1:16:53

You know, you guys don't know that we probably

1:16:55

take about six or seven pills a night before we

1:16:58

play No Clue. And that's just to be able to step

1:17:00

on the court. You got innocent, you got vos,

1:17:02

you got to taller, noil, you've got two

1:17:04

avils. The kidneys over the supposed to be able

1:17:07

to process for so much. If we're

1:17:09

not hydrating and bringing liquids and

1:17:11

fluids and draining that your

1:17:13

liver is catching all that. Your kidneys are catching

1:17:15

all that man, Believe it or not, it

1:17:17

makes a difference. It makes a difference in enjoy paying

1:17:19

to be able to sit up there, just how we're sitting. If

1:17:21

your ship is hurting, move

1:17:25

like six and listen and ship is

1:17:27

popping, and ship is moving, and get out this seat.

1:17:29

There is an issue, and you never

1:17:31

think about that ship as you're putting it in and

1:17:34

as you're going you just think about, you know,

1:17:36

short term solutions. UM

1:17:39

Cannabis has brought some of those solutions

1:17:41

to date to where they're more beneficial

1:17:43

for the Organs and for your every day believe

1:17:46

it or not, you know, UM I always

1:17:48

say to who's his own use his own to

1:17:50

be respectful and responsible with it. Home

1:17:54

stretch right here, your top

1:17:56

five, team about yourself,

1:17:58

who's your top who's your starting five? Reminish

1:18:01

yourself. I'm gonna go magic

1:18:03

code Jordan's uh

1:18:06

Wilton shot going

1:18:08

really big, really firm. I

1:18:11

want to baby to switch. I want to baby to switch

1:18:13

one through three. It's funnel everything

1:18:15

to the middle, big fella. Lay everybody out

1:18:17

on my bench. I got, yeah,

1:18:20

I got I got I know, I got a Russell

1:18:22

and I got Russell on my bench because he's

1:18:24

gonna come in and bring a whole another pain. I

1:18:26

got a large one that my four. Um.

1:18:29

I gotta put Jamal Mashburn because he's one of

1:18:31

my favorite players at

1:18:33

three and Yeah.

1:18:36

I'm gonna put Steph in the my one and two

1:18:38

just because I love Stefe.

1:18:41

What the man

1:18:44

is probably another superstar who

1:18:46

doesn't really get a lot of recognition off of

1:18:48

superstar. I was a guy damn beyond

1:18:50

a superstar. He was. He was a

1:18:53

coaturally superstar. He wasn't

1:18:55

he wasn't afraid of anything.

1:18:57

Anything he was he was. He was really

1:18:59

the that the example of small

1:19:02

ball and really taking it to another

1:19:05

level. Y'all. I

1:19:07

call him a easy because he makes everything look

1:19:09

easy and shout the a y'all

1:19:11

man everything he did. Ship.

1:19:14

Seeing that we're here at All Star, what is What is

1:19:17

your favorite All Star moment? Favorite

1:19:20

All Star moment vents

1:19:23

sitting on the floor, Believe it or not, I got that

1:19:25

footage to y'all know, yeah,

1:19:29

no, no, come see

1:19:31

me. Motherfucker's

1:19:33

think y'all getting this ship for free? Y'all kiss my ass

1:19:36

right, it's going that ink hollow, right,

1:19:40

But I got that. That was probably one of my favorite

1:19:42

because all my friends was probably two couple

1:19:44

rolls and we got to see that, and it was the first

1:19:46

time the world got to really see events like

1:19:49

we knew Vince in high school, grew up with YadA

1:19:52

and for him to like put that on display

1:19:54

like that and just give us an unbelievable

1:19:56

A lot of people don't know. UM, Tracy

1:19:59

and Steve to Stacy and Steven

1:20:02

that to you know what I'm saying, that was one of the better

1:20:04

before Zach and uh Gordon.

1:20:07

Uh. That was probably my favorite. That was

1:20:09

probably my favorite uh dunk I test some

1:20:11

time. But out of all the stuff, man, I've

1:20:13

I've always been able to uh pull

1:20:16

something out of each All Star Game. UM. One

1:20:18

of my favorites was coming out. I was getting

1:20:20

ready to UM, I

1:20:22

was leaving the All Star Game and I had a bag of stuff

1:20:25

and I was coming out and Craig Sagar needed an interview

1:20:27

for his clothes out there, and I didn't want

1:20:29

to do it, and I was trying to you know, we didn't hit back look

1:20:31

like you know, like you know how you play shadow, You're trying to get

1:20:33

by somebody. I'm like track what you're doing. I

1:20:36

got kissed my plane. Get the funk out of here. Yeah, yeah,

1:20:38

that's my sister. Shout

1:20:40

to Bill. I call him shitty. I threw Shifty the bag

1:20:42

and said, yo, should he take this to the planet. And

1:20:44

I'm trying to get out. He's like, YO, just give me two seconds.

1:20:46

I needed out, said get the funk out of my way. And I kind

1:20:49

of push him, you know, I kind

1:20:51

of gave him some whatever. He was like, man, I

1:20:53

saw how he lost it. Come on, man, fun it come on, and

1:20:55

he and and I was, I'm just gonna say whatever

1:20:57

I want to say. So okay, just give me this. I just need thirties.

1:21:00

I got to get out of here, okay, okay, okay, and go. And

1:21:02

then I saw he had on. I looked and I said, hold

1:21:05

on, hold on. So

1:21:08

look, you know, I never tried to go at you, right, like,

1:21:10

what the funk? Like? Really? What the fund is this dog?

1:21:13

Like? Really you came to the game like this dog.

1:21:16

And he was trying to get an enemy. No funk,

1:21:18

all that low no burn, all this ship, everything,

1:21:21

the Green Throne to all this and all

1:21:23

of it, and kind

1:21:25

of gave him a little sound value and set with up but

1:21:28

and then got out of that and I turned around and I was like gaming

1:21:30

shot, yeah, thanks, like and

1:21:34

we know, I know we normally end the show, y'all with a

1:21:36

with a bagging segment. But before I do my bagging

1:21:39

segment, I want to we have some stuff for you. We

1:21:41

1:21:43

1:21:46

1:21:49

1:21:52
