Dan Yemin

In 1986, Dan Yemen went to college at U. Michigan in Ann Arbor. 

Laughing Hyena’s was the biggest band in Ann Arbor at the time, no one was interested in playing fast / hardcore at the time in Michigan.

Seeing Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Swans, and Dinosaur Jr. at the Blind Pig in Michigan, a very small venue, but would go home to NYC on vacations to go see Gorilla Biscuits and Anthrax. 

Why U. Michigan?…that seemed “the coolest” at the time.

Careers can break down into categories: altruism vs. obtaining capital. Rarely they overlap.

Attractions to Psychology:

-Work from home. 

The idea of consciousness, which drives much of psychology, can be a nebulous concept for some. What are the molecular forces that dictate consciousness? Metaphysics? quantum? 

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. 

Humans are predictable. 

Wanting to understand why human’s are so self destructive.

Reagan’s and W’s second term re-elections. 

Liberal elitism and Conservative propaganda.

Introverted and Extroverted is a grossly misunderstood concept. 

Bachelor’s degree U. Michigan finished in 1990, moved back to NJ and started Lifetime. 

Started Graduate School in 1992 at Widener University in Chester PA outside of Philadelphia in PsyD program to be a clinical therapist. 

The difference between the PhD and PsyD. 

Psychoanalysis is now considered an antiquated methodology. 

Being in therapy for five years in grad school while being trained as a therapist. 

As a therapist you speak colloquially, not scientifically.

How do you approach a very complicated problem like a mental health trauma as a diagnostician? Well you become a listener first as a therapist. 

SSRIs and the placebo effect.
