Conflict in the Middle East has been happening for thousands of years, but it has never been harsher than now. With the discovery of oil, and the West's increasing dependence on it during the 20th century, the region increasingly became a battleground for Britain, France, and later America to assert dominance and control oil supplies. However, this had led to a situation in which the United States is the sole major power in the region, and it has allied with Saudi Arabia. Especially after 9/11, America's unyielding support and reliance upon the country has allowed it to remain the same in its domestic policies, which go against the founding principles of the United States. Is this hypocrisy, and, if so, is it necessary? Joseph argues that the United States is wrong to support Saudi Arabia in this AnalyiticaHP debate, and Luke argues otherwise.
