The 2020 Election is over, and the projected winner is Joe Biden. Hooray! Democracy is saved! I guess I don’t have to be worried about The Apocalypse anymore. Good job, everyone! WRONG. Just because the orange Cheeto is on his way out doesn’t mean we’ve resolved our armageddon problem. We still have climate change, inequality, and a pandemic killing thousands of people a day. Joe Biden has inherited many problems, and we need to learn from our mistakes and acknowledge that our fight isn’t over. On this episode, I sit down with Jackie to discuss how the election has left us feeling and the work that still needs to be done. We also comb through Biden’s plan to tackle the pandemic and thank Philadelphia for saving America once again. We’re back with a special spooky episode of the podcast. It’s Halloween, and you already know that it’s my favorite holiday. I’m determined to celebrate it despite the coronavirus, and I wanted to sit down with someone significant to me, Steve Saturn. The last time Steve was on the podcast, we talked about The Zombie Apocalypse–and here we are living together during a pandemic in 2020. The irony! I decided to continue this Halloween “tradition” of embarrassing my boyfriend to document what life has been like under lockdown. Steve and I discuss what it’s been like living together during a pandemic, and we share some of our favorite Halloween memories. So grab a bowl of candy and plugin for this sugar-fueled episode. If you haven’t sent in your mail-in ballot, please drop it off at your nearest polling place or dropbox. If you’re able–please vote early and in person. This is a crucial election, and you don’t want to sit this one out! The future of this country depends on you. I hope your spooky season is distracting you from the chaos that surrounds us every day. If you’re not a Halloween person…nobody’s perfect. We are less than two weeks away from one of the most important US Presidential Elections in history. Mail-in ballots are already coming in, and all we can do is wait for November. This week, I talk with another Apocalypse Podcast Network podcaster, Cory Anotado. You may remember Cory from our first season in 2017. He appeared in Ep 10, and let’s say he was way off on his Apocalypse prediction. Cory and I discuss our past mistakes and predictions for the future. It was good to talk with an old friend. We also discuss his new podcast, Teach Me Something Good. I love this show because it’s a combination of education, comedy, and weird. I think you’ll love his show as much as I do. Once again, I am going to ask you to VOTE. Lady Gaga has been promoting her TurboVote campaign, and that’s a great place to start if you haven’t thought about how you will participate this year. Please vote and go to https://ladygaga.turbovote.org/ today. Make sure you leave a review and subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast platform. While Trump denies the fact that having COVID-19 is a big deal the rest of the country is sending in their mail-in ballot. I don’t know about you but I have a feeling this election is going to be a drawn-out nightmare, and the only thing keeping me together is the fact it’s October. This week, I talk with fellow Apocalypse Podcast Network podcaster, Gamal ElSawah about their new sci-fi comedy web series, Wormholes. This hot new piece of content drops on the internet on October 14th, and I am thrilled to give you the tea on this quarantine produced show. This is your weekly reminder to PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF BABY YODA GO VOTE. There’s no stopping this one-way ticket to an awkward Thanksgiving, and the only thing you can to do make sure you have a say is by casting your vote–so do it! The drama has just turned up a notch because COVID-19 has made its way into the White House. Donald Trump has tested positive for coronavirus, and the rest of the country is trying to decide what plot twist comes next. 2020 will go down in history as one wild ride. This week, I had a great conversation with Jake Cornell. Recently, Jake made some sketch videos featuring a character that just LOVES going out to eat during a pandemic. The piece is brilliant, and it keeps racking up views each week. I was happy to talk to him about the video, but he also talked about his passion for the restaurant industry, and his fight for workers’ rights. It was such an insightful conversation, and it helps you think about how you can support the restaurants you care about in your neighborhood. Just a reminder, before we get rolling on this week’s episode, I want to encourage you to VOTE. If haven’t received your mail-in ballot yet, follow up with your local elections office. You can track your ballot online, and make sure to get it in the mail before October 20th! Make sure you leave a review and subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast platform. This episode is brought to you by depression….because it’s late and I’m sorry about that. The death of RGB hit me a little harder than expected, and I needed to unplug from the internet tubes to keep my sanity intact–but I’m here now! This is a great episode, and I think it’ll take your mind off the madness. This week, I talk to the incredibly funny Maria DeCotis about her phenomenal Andrew Cuomo lip-sync videos. I’ve always known Maria as a funny stand up act, but these videos have catapulted her to the top of Twitter! Millions of people have laughed with her, and for that we are grateful. They say laughter is the best medicine, and Maria has been dolling out doses to combat this pandemic. For that, we thank her…now check out the interview! Just a reminder, before we get rolling on this week’s episode, I want to encourage you to register to vote and request a mail-in ballot if you are unable to vote in person due to the pandemic. This election has just become even more important than ever. Don’t sit this one out. Make sure you leave a review and subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast platform. Another gender reveal party has set California and Oregon ablaze– turning the skies an apocalyptic orange. As we hobble towards the last four months of 2020, wondering what surprises lie in store–I urge you to vote. The environmental rollbacks this administration has implemented will only increase the climate crisis. This crisis doesn’t limit its effects on wildfires, but pandemics, displacement, and economic loss are it’s victims as well. So before we get into this week’s episode, I just want to remind you to register to vote and request a mail-in ballot if you are unable to vote in person due to the pandemic. In this episode, I talk with Vijay Parthasarathy of Stardust Insights. Vijay specializes in helping brands incorporate social action and ethical causes in their marketing strategy. I met him through Lunchclub, and I had to have him on the show. I hope you enjoy this pretentious conversation. While you’re preoccupied with (or completely ignoring) coronavirus, I’m still worried about the other disasters we need to address once this pandemic is yesterday’s news. People seem to think that I’ll run out of material once a vaccine is in our veins–nay I say! I’m in the podcasting game for the long haul, and the world’s problems don’t just amount to viruses and elections. Let’s face it; the world has a copious amount of problems. If this lockdown has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t ignore these issues anymore. This episode takes a look at the giant elephant in the room, nuclear energy. As of today, Sept 5, 2020, the Doomsday Clock is on 2-minutes to midnight, and let’s just say The Trump Administration isn’t shying away from nuclear weapon stockpiles. On this episode, I enlist the help of my fellow female filmmaker, Nancy Wolfe, to help discuss this terrifying topic. Nancy has been working on the documentary Rocky Flats for four years. It’s a film that explores the invisible killer, and it unravels to some earth-shattering truths about America’s relationship with nuclear waste. You’re going to learn a lot of things you wish you didn’t. Make sure you leave a review and subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast platform. I miss going to the movies. I’m trying to remember the last movie I saw in theaters. (Uncut Gems?) It feels like a lifetime ago. I would love to go back, but I don’t feel safe sitting in a room with strangers for two hours. I’ll wear a mask–but how am I supposed to eat my popcorn? There are so many streaming content options, why bother spending $20 for a night of anxiety? I’m sure other people are thinking the same thing when it comes to movie night. Will going to the movies be a thing of the past, and as a filmmaker–should I be adapting to that reality? I had to talk to my optimistic and talented friend, Matt Braunsdorf. Matt is a director, cinematographer, and editor with an undying love for the art form and the talent to create masterpieces of his own. I knew that I could spill my industry anxieties onto him–and he’d reassure me that movies are going to come back better than ever. I hope he’s right! This week, I talk with yet another fantastic member of the Apocalypse Podcast Network, Lynsey Bonell. Lynsey is from the UK living in NYC and living her best quarantine life by trying to bring joy into this chaotic situation. Lynsey is one of the members of TRASH comedy and one of the hosts of their podcast, Hot Goss. I love this podcast, and you will too! Lynsey and I talk about what it’s like living so far away from family during an international pandemic, volunteering, and practicing your tight five on the cats in your apartment. I’m back! I bet you missed me last week, and I missed you. I had an unexpected power outage that left me studioless for a week. That’s why this episode is getting to your podcast tubes a little later than usual. Better late than never! This week, I talk with another member of the Apocalypse Podcast Network, Dani Ahrens. They’re working on a new podcast called Jokes Inside, where they talk with NYC based comedians about the lockdown and their plans (or lack thereof.) This episode is a good ‘ol fashioned ADHD podcast conversation that bounces around from one idea to the next. Dani gives us some historical context when it comes to Disney, and shares some of the darker side of comedians in lockdown dealing with isolation and the lack of accessibility to their artform. This conversation is an excellent introduction to Dani, and we will be releasing their new podcast through the Apocalypse Podcast Network–so keep your eyes on our social media! The nightmare continues as coronavirus cases surge, and Donald Trump jokes around about pushing the election back. Tensions are high in The United States, but Christian Carrion is managing to have a positive experience during this confusing spiral. Christian Carrion is the host of the podcast, Stranger Than Christian, which is part of the newly formed Apocalypse Podcast Network. On Stranger Than Christian, you get honest conversations in the OG podcast format. I love the show, and I know you will too. I brought Christian onto the show this week to talk about his experience podcasting during the lockdown. It turns out; podcasting has been a healthy activity that has given Christian a positive outlook during this bleak time. We could all use some optimism and curiosity–and Stranger Than Christian certainly has that. You’re going to enjoy this interview! As citizens continue to ignore the pandemic, President Trump starts wearing a mask in public and then deploys secret police to the city of Portland. While Trump continues to position himself as a “law and order” President, moms form a wall to protect protestors from violence. It remains to be another tumultuous week in the USA. While others may buckle under pressure, Jessica Lanyadoo uses podcasting and astrology to motivate the masses to take action and create a better world. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while, and I had to have her on the show. Her words inspire me every week, and I wanted her to bring some of that inspiration to this anxiety-ridden podcast. Jessica and I talk about the remainder of 2020 and the astrology of The United States. Jessica has some very eye-opening statements when it comes to “the apocalypse,” and I know you’re going to love what she has to say. We are deep into summer amidst a pandemic, and the restlessness is palpable. Uncertainty and boredom have led Americans down the rabbit hole into QAnon territory, and this online movement is seeping into the real world. Qs are taking oaths on Twitter and running for Congress, and it looks like these Digital Soldiers are mobilizing towards and apocalyptic event. Is QAnon hinting towards things to come, or is it all a crock of shit? I reached out to Travis View of the QAnon Anonymous Podcast looking for some answers. Travis was happy to take the time to talk to me about the history of QAnon, some of the conspiracy theories holding it together, and the dangers it presents to our democracy. It’s an interesting conversation and I know you’re going to dig it. We are also launching the Apocalypse Podcast Network this week! bigwillygetsilly (AKA Will Martinez) is back and ready to take back everything he said about gentrification, causing the Apocalypse. It turns out; a pandemic is going to do the job. I brought Will back onto the show because it’s been six months since his episode helped launch the 2020 reboot–and I wanted to see how he was feeling during these very different times. We also talk about a little project we’ve been working on together. Since the pandemic started, we’ve been working on a podcast called VHSmash. The show is a celebration of bad cinema, and it drops this month! I had a great time talking to Will about everything and excited to get you ready for our new show. We will also be launching The Apocalypse Podcast Network this month. The network is a collection of podcasts uniting during the end of the world. I’m excited to introduce you to them! As America gets ready to turn 245, the country wonders how they could celebrate with so much destruction and pain happening in the land. Enter: Lady Gaga and her 6th studio album: Chromatica. I know this 4th of July is going to be an awkward one, but we still need a mental break every once in a while. I needed this episode to be a little lighter than the previous ones, because –I wanted to be able to celebrate something. This album has given me the ability to celebrate and feel joy among this chaos. A few weeks ago, I talked to my friend Kali Tripodis, a fellow Little Monster, about Gaga’s new album and how it’s ushering us into a new age. Initially, I wanted this episode to kick off pride month–but more important things came up. We focused on the fight for equality instead of giving in to the corporate rainbow, and I’m so proud! I think this episode is the perfect send-off to Pride 2020 and directly into Post-Apocalyptic Chromatica. While the rest of the country ignores lockdown suggestions and bars and restaurants start seating people outside, coronavirus cases continue to rise in states like Texas and Florida. The United States has taken a healthy dose of denial as we watch our “flattening ” of the curve surge up past our Canadian neighbors and EU BFFs. As protestors remain in the streets, our first responders continue their harrowing defense against this new virus. This week, I wanted to talk to one of my dear friends, because she has been an ER nurse for the past 13 years. As soon as coronavirus hit the US–I contacted her to make sure she was okay. (And to get the inside scoop on how Philadelphia was handling the crisis.) I also asked if she would be interested in sharing her experience on the podcast. Sarah has always been my #1 go-to person in cases of emergency, or if I needed help with something. Her chill, level-headed attitude has helped me countless times. I asked her to be on the show in March, but she hasn’t had the ability to formulate her thoughts until now. To hear her be so distraught and worried about this pandemic really gave me pause. After Black Lives Matter protests erupted Sarah finally reached out and told me she was ready to talk about what she was experiencing. Later on Instagram, I saw her handing out hand sanitizer and masks at the Philadelphia protest. Sarah has seen a lot of inequality for years working in North Philadephia as an ER nurse. I knew she had something important to say as a health professional and an ally. Not so fast, Karen! The Apocalypse hasn’t finished it’s shitstorm yet. The weather may be getting nicer, but the pandemic is definitely still around. Good thing I’m here to remind you to put on your mask and that Black Lives Matter. We continue to amplify black voices this week by sitting down with comedian Shem Pennant of UCB. Shem is a hilarious comedian who works with the sketch team The Foundation and Trash Comedy. He’s also from South London, so I wanted to know how he was feeling “during these tumultuous times.” Shem and I talk about the importance of representation, what it feels like to be a black comedian in the UK and the US, and how taking a selfie right now isn’t really important. It’s a great conversation, and I know you’re going to love it. Remember: Donate wherever you can this week, and support black-owned businesses for Juneteenth. I’ve updated my Instagram profile with easy links to a few charities you can donate to. The Apocalypse is rolling along, and the media is trying to steer the conversation back to coronavirus questions while people are still demanding justice for people like Breonna Taylor. I still think it’s important to amplify black voices at this time, and that’s why I’m happy to share with you an episode of the Correctly Mistaken Podcast. Last week, I sat down as a guest on the Correctly Mistaken Podcast, hosted by Wesley Cherry. Things were still pretty raw when we spoke, and I just wanted to let him talk about how he was feeling. In a way, I ended up interviewing him on his own show. This episode is a little over 2 hours, and it’s a glimpse into the hard conversations Americans should be having with each other. I’m glad I’m playing this episode this week because our Instagram feeds and news networks are starting to veer away from the Black Lives Matter conversation. We’re not going to make any real change by moving quickly to the next thing. This isn’t Tik Tok–it’s our lives. We need to remember why we feel what we’re feeling and apply constant pressure to enact real change. I still think it’s important to amplify black voices at this time, and that’s why you’ll be hearing an episode from a black podcaster. I hope you enjoy this episode. Please donate wherever you can this week. I’ve updated my Instagram profile with easy links to a few charities. Head over there if you’re feeling generous. This Apocalypse keeps getting more difficult as Americans across the country engage in peaceful protests for Black Lives Matter while instigators see opportunities for chaos. Curfews have been issued, and tear gas has been deployed. On Monday, while standing in the rose garden, President Donald Trump released the National Gaurd and threatened to use the military force against American citizens. Attorney General Barr then gave an order to flash-bomb and tear-gas a peaceful crowd so the president could take a photo holding a bible in front of a church. This goes without saying, but things are a little tense in the ‘ol US of A. This week, I wanted to talk to someone that I knew had different opinions from me. I kept hearing the same messages with the same talking points from all of my friends on social media–magnifying my anger and sadness. I also knew that people who were outside of my social network circles were angry about other aspects of this apocalypse–like looting. I felt like it was essential to try and have a conversation with an opposing viewpoint because we need to have more conversations with people who may not agree with us. I reached out to my friend, Jimi, AKA: Slightly Special of Slightly Special Media. We’ve been following each other on social media for a few years, and I always enjoy seeing his projects. Slightly Special also happens to be a mixed-race military man. I knew I had to talk to him to see his different viewpoint, so I had to have him on the show. I was glad I did–because we were able to listen to each other and talk openly about how we felt. I also think it’s important to amplify black voices at this time, and next week, I will be playing a conversation I had with Wes Cherry on his show, the Correctly Mistaken podcast. Until justice happens and real reform starts, I think featuring these voices on the show is a more valuable approach than muting this apocalypse broadcast. I hope you enjoy this episode. How are you doing? I know this was a difficult week for The United States. I’m sure you’re feeling the stress of it– along with the stress of this lingering pandemic. In the past two months, four black people, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and George Floyd, were murdered. Justice took it’s sweet ass time, and for some, it hasn’t been found. The country seems to be reaching a tipping point. I couldn’t do an episode this week without mentioning these incidents, or how you can help. So, I share with you ways to help and how to check in with your friends who may be extra sensitive to the situation. I recorded my conversation with Anna Goldfarb a few weeks ago. I want my episodes to be an escape from the COVID-19 madness, so I wanted to talk to Anna about a few articles she’s written for The New York Times. Anna’s pieces often deal with interpersonal relationships with some fun lifestyle tips. In the episode, she tells us how to mediate difficult conversations with your roommates and the phenomenon of zoom weddings. It’s a fun little conversation that will get your mind off the apocalypse. Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It’s the unofficial start of summer, and officials “wouldn’t dare close the beaches” on a holiday weekend. Yes, we are living in the movie Jaws. Anyway… this week, I check in with my friend David Bluvband. He’s been living alone in his studio apartment since the end of March– and that can do things to a person. We talk about apocalyptic fiction and how it’s mirroring real life, shaving your head, and night eating. It’s a great conversation with a great person. You’re going to dig it. This is a very special BONUS EPISODE of Apocalypse…Now? I know that you’re looking for more podcasts to listen to while you’re stuck in lockdown. Don’t worry, I got you. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce you to one of my FAVORITE podcasts, The Unimaginary Friendcast. The Unimaginary Friendcast is hosted by my best friends, Erin Davis, Nathan Edmondson, and David Monster. They always have fun conversations with each other and interesting guest. I wanted to share with you an episode that really resonated with me, and I know you’re going to love it too. The Unimaginary gang had the opportunity to sit down with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal of Washington’s 7th District. This conversation was released on April 28th, and the Congresswoman managed the impossible: She gave all three of the Unimaginary Friendcast hosts hope. After their discussion, all three of them admitted to feeling better and wanting to do more to improve life on planet Earth. This is an episode you do not want to miss! Cuomo announced our stay-at-home order would extend through June 13th and the idea that 2020 would be “your year” flys out the window. In this time of perpetual despair, there are humans still reaching out for love and affection, and Homey Leavitt is among them. She’s the host of the podcast, The Revolving Door, where she talks to people about sex and relationships. She asked me to sit down with her to talk about some sexy things, and I was more than willing. This week’s episode is our conversation from her podcast, The Revolving Door. I know how much the apocalypse has been bringing you down lately (it’s been bumming me out too) so I thought you could use some sexy content. Honey and I talk about sleeping with your clone, Zoom dating, and so much more! If you liked our conversation, make sure you subscribe to her show and binge all the new episodes! Here we are, approaching our… 7th? 8th? week in quarantine? *Shrug* Does anyone really measure time anymore? I know I don’t! The only time I need is for this podcast, and this week I have a really awesome guest. Frank Conniff, AKA TV’s Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000, talks to me about how he’s holding up in quarantine and what we might expect from the artform once things start opening up again. Frank is confident that the world will need more comedy after this, and I couldn’t agree with him more. This is a really great episode, and I’m not just saying that because I always say that. We also have a special guest testimonial appearance from Will Martinez AKA bigwillygetsilly. I don’t know what name he’s going by these days–but I do know he loves WannaRub! You have to check out his enthusiastic testimonial. It will make you change the way you feel about spices forever. There is still time to win a FREE shaker of WannaRub.
