President Trump went on a prolonged attack against the media in his speech in Phoenix, lashing out at media for condemning his remarks in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville and calling the media bad and dishonest people. Phil Boas, editorial page director for the Arizona Republic and Fernanda Santo, an ASU Cronkite Southwest Borderlands Initiative Professor, will talk about the president's tongue-lashing of the media and Ed Maguire is a professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University who studies the use of violence against police in protests. He and a team of PhD students were observing the protest following President Trump's rally in Phoenix for research purposes and Maguire was hit in the face and abdomen by pepper balls. Maguire, who has studied the use of violence against police in protests in Ferguson, Missouri and in Washington, D.C., will tell us more about that topic. and President Trump visited the border near Yuma during his visit to Arizona in his continued push for a border wall. Environmentalists have concerns about the border wall and its impact on wildlife, flooding and fragmenting wildlife corridors. Sandy Bahr, director of the Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club, will tell us about her group's concerns about the border wall.
