In this episode, Grant McHerron & Ewen Levick talk with Mick Ryan, retired Australian Army Major General & military strategist, about his views on the Ukrainian counter offensive that’s currently underway.

Mick’s experience as a military strategist gives us insights into President Zelensky's decision to defend Bakhmut, their breach into Russia’s main defensive zone, and Russia’s progress in adapting to the Ukrainian response. The discussion explores the factors surrounding the warfare with a focus on Russia’s mine fields and their impact on armoured mobility, the ways in which Ukrainians conduct their operations, and the evolution of militaries and technologies on the battlefield.

We wrap up by evaluating whether the morale of Russian troops is a vulnerability, considering Ukraine’s victory conditions, and discussing what Australia can do to better support Ukraine.
