Greetings Friends,

Adults with autism are stereotypically mischaracterized as being disconnected and not interested in social relationships. I think that         perception could not be further from the reality of the people that I have met, worked with and whom I have formed friendships.

Granted, there are typical characteristics like difficulty identifying and interpreting and expressing emotions, high level focus in particular interest areas, having difficulty predicting beliefs and intentions of others that make it difficult to connect with others. However intense or variable those factors may be, the need for meaningful social relationships over time is crucial to the well being of adults on the spectrum.

It's difficult to maintain friendships, social and even romantic relationships over time.  It takes real work. What is that experience like for someone with ASD?
