These Wondery podcasts are formulaic and predictable, but I'm always entertained, much like a good rom-com. Bad Batch exposes a stem cell industry misregulation and human propensity for greed that leads to dire consequences for a few hopeful patients.
If Dr Death made me fall in love with drama podcasts, Bad Batch gave the context to appreciate Laura Beil as a host, no one else drives the gravity and horror of a situation home like her.
So Good. So Frightening. I literally called my senator about FDA regulation.
Another classic from the Wondery stable of well-researched, factual podcasts telling fascinating and horrifying real-life stories. The outcomes may not have been as fatal as in 'Dr Death', but you will be frightened by what happened here. Not a comforting listen, but a good one!
Great storytelling.
At first I thought, this isn't actually the scary story that it sounds like at first, but it's actually a much more nuanced and interesting story about how dangerous the frontiers of medicine really are, and what kind of person builds an incredibly profitable business out of an entirely new treatment. Then there was a pretty big twist in Episode 5, and actually it was more of a horror story than I thought.
I think in showing the particular story of one bad batch, this podcast explores the various failures that can come with supposed innovation. Because really, even if the treatment is new, the delivery system isn't.
Another good isntallation from Wondery, this time diving into the crooked side of medical treatment. Exposes the harm some are willing to inflict on others to make a quick buck. Sometimes the dramatic speaking is just a little much.
Why didn't she talk about Genetech? The whole time I'm waiting for her to expose and discuss the company who made the product. WTF????
