In this episode, Abbey is joined by Kalya aka @ReadVoraciously to discuss The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See.
This story begins in a remote Akha tribe village in China and eventually brings us all around the world. Li-yan and her family align their lives around the seasons, rituals and routine of farming tea. Yet it is soon disclosed to them that their tea farming could have much more value than providing for their daily lives. Li-Yan comes to be the primary representative of this movement, overcoming a once though ‘cursed’ life to becoming a woman who makes her own destiny.
In this episode, Kayla and Abbey discuss their favourite chapters, how destiny permeates the book, 'common sense,' 'don't hate the player' and mother-daughter relationships. As always, Bad People Book Club whips the book into a cocktail and a playlist.
