January 15, 2016Some would argue that it has never been more difficult to be a Muslim in America since September 11. With the ISIS-inspired massacre in San Bernadino and support for Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s call to Muslims from entering the United States, Muslim communities once again find themselves at the center of a heated cultural and political climate. Using Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar’s Disgraced (now playing at the Huntington Theatre Company) as a point of departure, Basic Black explores what it means to be a Muslim American.Tonight’s panel:- Callie Crossley, Host, Under the Radar with Callie Crossley, WGBH News- Phillip Martin, Senior Reporter, WGBH News- Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, Executive Board Member, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Massachusetts- Saher Selod, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Simmons College- Taymullah Abdur-Rahman, Chaplain, Harvard UniversityPhoto: Rashad Abdul-Rahman holds a book at the Atlanta Masjid of Al Islam mosque, Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, in Atlanta.
