The Healthy + Happy Podcast Episode 13: Mood Foods

On this episode of the Healthy + Happy Podcast, Dr. Slade and special guest Cindy Miles discuss the effects of nutrition on your mood and overall health! Because nutrition is an important part of neurotransmitter health and production, nutritional education is an important part of the foundational Healthy+Happy principles.

Today’s guest is Cindy Miles, Functional Nutritional Therapeutic Specialist and is super knowledgeable about all things nutrition. Listen as Cindy and Dr. Slade talk about how we can use food as a tool to impact our mental health.   Cindy Miles has always been fascinated with health and nutrition, and the intricacies of what makes the brain and body work at their very best. She embraces the tenets of functional medicine that teach that if you give the body the substances it needs to thrive, and remove the substances that cause it harm, the body’s own healing powers are unleashed and optimal wellness and performance can begin. In addition to over twenty years of auto-didacticism in nutrition, Cindy studied nutrition and dietetics at NMSU, and studied holistic and functional nutrition at the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA) and at Amen University. She has worked professionally as a pharmacy educator & consultant, tasked with helping physicians to find pharmaceutical and nutritional interventions to improve patient outcomes, especially in hard to treat patients. A critical part of her work was identifying drug-induced nutrient depletions that were impacting patient conditions. Cindy is a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), and recently served on the writing team updating curriculum for the Nutritional Therapy Association, and has lectured on nutritional strategies for brain & mental health conditions for NTA students.
