In the inaugural episode of Beyond the Material, Zach, Drej and Stephen dive into one of the central questions of running a D&D Game in 5th Edition: is it ok for the DM to *change* the rules?? The gang introduces the concept (lovingly referred to as “DMFU Magic”), considers the differences in expectations that exist for players and dungeon masters, the implications for metagaming, and the use of improvised changes to manage (and augment) the players’ experience of the game. Beyond the Material also debuts its first Design Idea to integrate into your own home game, a fast and furious tavern betting game called Three Eyed Beholder!
