1:56

been 11 years since Bruce Kachera

1:58

was shot point blank. outside of an apartment

2:01

complex in New Orleans East, as he

2:03

searched for an address that doesn't exist.

2:06

When he was first killed, law enforcement quickly

2:08

chalked it all up to him being in the wrong

2:11

place at the wrong time. But

2:13

I had to ask, is that really

2:15

what happened? I'm Delia D'Ambra,

2:18

the host of the investigative series Counterclock.

2:20

And for season five, I'm digging deeper

2:23

into Bruce's case than anyone has ever

2:25

dug before. The answers may

2:27

be right in front of us. If we know where

2:30

to look or who to look

3:13

Listen to Park Predators now, wherever

3:16

you listen to podcasts. Now,

3:20

as you guys can tell by the title of today's episode,

3:22

today we are talking about a case that

3:25

is currently in the process of unraveling.

3:28

It's a case that you guys may have heard of on

3:30

the news or in the media, and

3:32

that is the brutal murder

3:35

of Becky Blyfnick. This

3:37

is a horrific case, and it's one

3:40

that I think deserves a lot of attention. So

3:42

with that being said, let's jump right on

3:45

into it today. Becky Blyfnick

3:47

was born on November 19th of 1981

3:50

in Quincy, Illinois,

3:52

to her parents, William and Bernadette.

3:55

Becky grew up as the youngest of two daughters

3:57

and was incredibly close to her older son.

3:59

sister, Sarah. Growing up,

4:02

Becky attended Payson Seymour Elementary

4:04

School before moving on to attend

4:06

Quincy Notre Dame High School.

4:09

Becky was incredibly intelligent

4:12

and graduated high school as the valedictorian

4:15

in her class.

4:16

Something to know about Becky is that she

4:18

was incredibly motivated and hardworking.

4:22

She was able to accomplish whatever she set

4:24

her mind to. She went on to attend

4:26

Quincy University where she studied and got

4:28

a degree in biological science

4:30

and minored in chemistry. She

4:32

graduated cum laude in college before moving

4:35

on to work at Sanify Aventis,

4:37

which is a pharmaceutical company. And

4:40

to no one's surprise, Becky thrived

4:42

in her work environment and was one of the

4:44

company's top performing pharmaceutical

4:47

sales representatives. And

4:49

although Becky was thriving in her work

4:52

environment, she had bigger dreams.

4:54

Her dreams involved being more hands-on

4:57

with her patients and really being able

4:59

to make a difference. And that is why she wanted

5:01

to move forward with becoming a nurse.

5:04

Becky attended Blessing Ryman College

5:06

of Nursing and Health Sciences and graduated

5:09

summa cum laude from there. Becky

5:11

actually had her third child while

5:14

she was in nursing school and only

5:16

ended up missing one day

5:18

of classes. After graduating

5:21

from nursing school, Becky moved on to

5:23

begin working at the Quincy Medical

5:25

Group in the Gastrointestinal Surgery

5:27

Department before transferring to a different

5:30

hospital called Blessings Hospital

5:32

to be a nurse in their emergency room.

5:35

Becky was also a travel nurse all throughout

5:38

the COVID pandemic and she

5:40

was even nominated for a Daisy Award

5:43

in 2020, which is essentially honoring

5:45

the exceptional work done by nurses.

5:47

So hopefully that gives you an idea of how

5:50

dedicated she was and how loved

5:52

she was by her patients. Now

5:55

as devoted and determined as Becky was

5:57

in her professional life, the one thing

5:59

that that mattered to her even more than that

6:02

was her family life and more

6:04

specifically her children. While

6:07

Becky was attending Quincy University,

6:09

she ended up meeting a man named Tim

6:12

Blyfnik. In the beginning of their relationship,

6:15

the two of them moved to Chicago

6:17

together before heading back to Quincy,

6:19

Illinois and getting married on

6:21

November 8th of 2009. Together,

6:25

Becky and Tim had three boys

6:28

together and like I said, these boys

6:29

were Becky's entire world.

6:33

Becky even had a dedicated Twitter

6:35

page for funny and silly

6:37

things that her kids would say that she wanted

6:40

to remember. She was a

6:42

boy mom through and through and she

6:44

absolutely loved it. She was incredibly hands-on.

6:47

She was the mom that was putting together

6:49

the Halloween costumes from scratch. She

6:52

was taking the boys to their sports

6:54

practices. She was always there

6:57

for every school event, all while

6:59

maintaining a very demanding

7:01

job and she

7:02

never once complained.

7:05

Becky was also very involved

7:08

in philanthropy. She was constantly volunteering,

7:11

whether that was for her kids' school, putting

7:13

together the luncheons or organizing

7:15

different dances or parent-teacher conferences,

7:18

all the way to volunteering at different

7:20

animal rescue and shelters.

7:23

It was just something that was ingrained in her.

7:25

It was who she was to her core. She

7:27

was the type of person that always wanted

7:29

to help wherever she could and

7:31

that really is the standout characteristic

7:34

that Becky's family and friends lean on.

7:36

They remember her as always being the one

7:38

that you could call, no matter what time,

7:40

day or night, she was always going to

7:43

be there and show up for the

7:45

people that she cared about and the people that she loved.

7:49

Now even though Becky was thriving

7:51

in her professional life, she was

7:53

thriving with her children, her friends,

7:55

her family, something that was really

7:58

suffering in Becky's life was her.

7:59

marriage to Tim. Becky

8:02

and Tim had been having problems in their marriage

8:04

for several years, however those problems

8:06

really started to hit the surface in the year 2020.

8:09

And when it came to the

8:10

future of their marriage, Becky

8:12

and Tim had two very different

8:14

viewpoints on how they should proceed.

8:17

Becky was trying to do everything she could

8:19

to save her marriage. She asked

8:22

Tim to go to couples counseling, to

8:24

do family counseling, to talk through

8:26

their problems together. She really wanted

8:29

to save the marriage for the sake of their

8:31

children. She wanted her boys to grow

8:33

up in a happy household with both their mom

8:36

and their dad, and that was something that was

8:38

really important to her. So she was

8:40

constantly

8:40

trying to ask Tim for ways that

8:42

they could work through their problems. However

8:45

for Tim, he was very much so

8:47

on the side of wanting a divorce,

8:50

and Becky was aware of this. Becky

8:52

even told her sister Sarah about seven

8:54

to eight months prior to being

8:57

served with divorce papers that

8:59

she believed that Tim was

9:01

going to file. It was just

9:03

a matter of when. So ultimately,

9:06

Tim ended up filing for divorce from

9:08

Becky in January 2021. The two ended up physically separating,

9:13

however they really did maintain in close

9:15

proximity to each other because their

9:17

houses were actually only about a mile

9:20

away from each other on the same street.

9:22

Now in the beginning of the divorce process,

9:24

there were several temporary orders

9:27

of request that were filed by Becky.

9:30

The first was that Becky wanted Tim to

9:32

return her nine millimeter handgun

9:35

that she purchased that she believed

9:37

that Tim stole. Becky

9:40

went on to say that if she did not get her gun back

9:42

from Tim, she wanted him to pay

9:44

the $800 value

9:46

of the gun. Along with that, Becky

9:49

wanted to make sure that her kids would have no

9:51

unsupervised contact with Tim's

9:53

father, Ray. This was something

9:55

that was really non-negotiable for her, and

9:58

as much as I tried to dig up the information as a to

10:00

why, the question as to why has not been

10:02

released to the public, but Becky was very,

10:05

very adamant that she did not want her kids

10:07

alone, unsupervised with

10:10

Tim's father, Ray. Now,

10:12

Tim also had some requests as

10:14

well. His request included

10:16

a 60-40 custody agreement in favor

10:19

of him, as well as the fact that he

10:21

wanted his father to be able to have unsupervised

10:24

visits with his kids, as well

10:26

as paying no child support and

10:29

for him to take possession of the house

10:31

that the two of them lived together. When

10:33

Becky saw those terms, she immediately

10:36

rejected them and ended up filing a

10:38

restraining order against Tim,

10:41

as well as his father, Ray.

10:44

And in turn, Tim filed

10:46

a restraining order against her as

10:48

well. Now, the process of going through

10:50

all of these requests were extremely

10:53

tenuous and contentious for

10:55

both Becky and Tim, and the two were

10:57

actually set to go to divorce court

11:00

in February of this year, so February 2023.

11:02

The reason

11:04

for going to divorce court was so that Becky

11:07

and Tim could finally have a proper layout

11:09

for what the assets and the custody agreement

11:12

were going to be moving forward.

11:14

However, unfortunately, that

11:17

never happened.

11:21

Do you ever fantasize about who you

better, if you had a dishwasher, maybe you

13:35

So this now leads us to February 23rd of 2023.

13:40

For the few days leading up to the 23rd, Tim

13:42

was the one who had visitation with the boys,

13:45

and they were supposed to switch off on

13:47

the 23rd. Becky was meant to pick

13:49

them up from school that day.

13:52

But instead, after multiple attempts

13:54

of Tim texting and calling Becky,

13:56

he ended up reaching out to Becky's father,

13:59

William. asking if he had heard from

14:01

Becky all day, to which William

14:03

replied that he had not. Tim

14:06

told William that it was Becky's day to pick

14:08

up the boys from school, however, she was

14:10

not answering. So after multiple

14:12

failed attempts by Becky's father to get

14:14

in touch with her, William ultimately

14:17

decided that he was going to drive over

14:19

to Becky's house himself. When

14:21

William pulled up into the driveway of Becky's

14:23

home, the first thing he noticed was that Becky's

14:26

front door was open. Ultimately

14:29

when seeing this, William had a bad feeling

14:31

that something was wrong. Becky

14:33

was always the person to lock her doors,

14:36

lock her windows. She was not

14:38

the type to freely leave

14:40

the door open. William

14:43

walked into Becky's home and began

14:45

calling out for Becky's name. He

14:48

searched all through the downstairs and

14:50

then made his way upstairs to where

14:52

Becky's room was. When he

14:54

got to Becky's room and ultimately

14:56

to Becky's bathroom, that is

14:58

where he found his daughter laying

15:00

on her bathroom floor with what appeared

15:03

to be several gunshot wounds.

15:06

After discovering Becky's body, William

15:08

immediately ran over to Becky's neighbor's

15:11

house and called 911 because

15:12

he forgot his cell phone and

15:14

paramedics and authorities arrived

15:17

immediately.

15:18

When authorities examined the crime scene, they

15:20

found several pieces of plastic surrounding

15:23

Becky's body. There was also a

15:25

towel and an ice pack found in

15:27

her underwear that she was wearing, and they

15:30

also discovered multiple bullet casings

15:32

surrounding her body as well. The

15:35

autopsy of Becky's body was performed by

15:37

Dr. Scott Denton, who had performed

15:39

over 12,000 autopsies

15:41

throughout his career.

15:43

Dr. Denton stated that Becky

15:45

had surgery herself several

15:47

days prior to her murder, and that

15:50

explains why she was wearing surgical pants

15:52

and compression pads. And the

15:54

compression pads that Becky was wearing was

15:57

the reason why there was not a lot of blood

15:59

surrounding her.

15:59

Becky's body because the compression

16:02

pads were soaking up the blood.

16:04

The

16:05

autopsy revealed that Becky's cause

16:07

of death was gunshot wounds and

16:09

that she had been shot 14 times. 14

16:14

times. Nine of those shots were

16:16

to Becky's chest, three were

16:18

to her right arm, and two

16:21

were to her left hand. Dr.

16:23

Denton was able to confirm that

16:26

none of the gunshot wounds to Becky

16:28

were immediately fatal. However,

16:31

he was able to notice that Becky

16:33

internally bled to death. One

16:35

of the gunshot wounds paralyzed Becky from

16:38

the waist down and another went

16:40

through her lungs which caused shortness

16:43

of breath and that, along

16:45

with the internal bleeding, caused

16:47

her death.

16:49

Now when police began their investigation,

16:51

one of the first things that they noticed

16:54

was that the window in Becky's

16:56

second-story bedroom was

16:59

open.

17:00

And to police, this meant that there was

17:02

sign of forced entry. Surrounding

17:05

Becky's body, police were able to discover

17:07

eight shell casings. However,

17:10

unfortunately, they were not able

17:12

to uncover any fingerprints

17:14

throughout the house and they were also

17:16

able to see that Becky's bedroom door

17:19

had been broken and it appeared

17:21

that Becky tried to lock out

17:24

her attacker. However, the door

17:26

was broken in.

17:28

Police also discovered Becky's cell

17:30

phone on the floor of her bedroom behind

17:33

the bedroom door and they were able

17:35

to see that Becky had attempted to call 911. Police

17:38

discovered a crowbar on the floor

17:43

as well as a shoe imprint in the

17:45

carpet of Becky's bedroom

17:47

and that is where they pieced two and two together that

17:49

the crowbar was the weapon that

17:52

was used to open that second-story

17:54

window to get into Becky's bedroom.

17:57

Now police spoke to multiple of Becky's

17:59

neighbors.

17:59

asking them if they had seen or heard

18:02

anything suspicious in the early

18:04

morning hours of the 23rd. However,

18:06

all of Becky's neighbors claimed that they did not

18:09

hear a single thing. However,

18:11

later on in the morning, Becky's neighbors

18:14

did see that her front door

18:16

was left open, which they did

18:18

find to be odd. Now

18:20

luckily, one of Becky's neighbors actually

18:23

has a security camera

18:25

that was able to capture a little bit

18:27

of footage from the early morning

18:29

hours of February 23rd. At 105 a.m., this

18:34

security camera caught footage of someone

18:37

walking up Becky's driveway

18:39

and then walking away

18:41

at 1.53 a.m. However,

18:44

due to the angle, the person was not able to

18:46

be identified, but the timing

18:49

did match up because police looked

18:51

into Becky's security system and saw

18:53

that her front door was open at 1.13 a.m.

18:55

on February 23rd. Police

18:59

also spoke with Becky's son's school,

19:02

who told them that on the 23rd, Tim

19:05

had called them to tell them that

19:07

he could not get in touch with Becky that

19:10

day and that he would be the one

19:12

picking up the kids instead of her.

19:15

So in the beginning of the investigation, police

19:18

did not have a lot of physical evidence to go on.

19:20

They had a lot of bits and pieces

19:22

of odd information, odd things

19:24

that happened throughout the night, however

19:26

no physical evidence that they

19:29

were able to maintain to help

19:31

lead them to their killer. However,

19:34

after Becky's death, family and friends

19:36

of Becky's started coming forward to

19:38

police and this is when red

19:40

flags started to raise.

This

20:15

Friday. Welcome to Story Time.

20:17

I'm Stephen King. Beware

20:19

the Boogeyman as the stories

20:21

are true. Because there's

20:24

something in the shadows waiting

20:26

for you. Keep the lights

20:28

on. Check under your bed. Close

20:31

every closet. Or you'll sleep

20:33

with the

20:34

dead. From the mind

20:36

of Stephen King, The Boogeyman,

20:38

directed by Rob Savage, rated PG-13, may be inappropriate

20:41

for children under 13. Sleep tight, boys

20:44

and girls. Hi!

20:46

Did I scare you? I hope I did. My

20:48

name is Selena Spooky Boo, and you might know me from some places

20:50

as of TikTok, where I do some sleepwalking

20:52

and dad joke videos. But what you don't know

20:55

is that Selena Spooky Boo has

20:57

a podcast. The Haunted Estate. That's

21:00

been around for an embarrassing long time,

21:02

but I'm gonna tell you right now, it's full of the scary

21:04

stuff, the spooky stuff, the hard stuff, and hey,

21:07

some of the funny stuff. So come on over

21:09

and hang out with us and check out The Haunted

21:11

Estate.

21:13

After Becky's murder, there were several

21:15

of Becky's friends and family who came forward

21:18

to police to tell them that leading

21:20

up to her death, Becky was in

21:22

fear for her safety. Becky

21:25

told several of her family and friends

21:27

that she was afraid of

21:29

her ex-husband, Tim.

21:31

Becky even went as far as to tell people

21:34

that if anything were to ever happen to her,

21:36

that Tim would be the one

21:38

who had done it. In 2021,

21:41

Becky had texted a friend of hers, saying

21:44

that she was having a panic attack, thinking

21:46

about what Tim is capable of, and

21:48

said, quote, I'm scared of

21:51

what he might do and his

21:53

erratic behavior, end quote.

21:56

In that same year of 2021, Becky also texted her.

21:59

saying, quote, if something

22:02

ever happens to me, make sure the number

22:04

one person of interest is Tim

22:07

because that's who would do something to me.

22:09

I'm putting this in writing because I'm fearful

22:12

that he will somehow harm me, come after

22:14

me, or will try to do something that

22:16

takes me away from the kids

22:19

or the kids away from me. He

22:21

has already lied multiple times to

22:24

paint himself as a victim and me

22:26

as a perpetrator and it is absolutely

22:28

the other way around.

22:29

No I have not sent this to mom

22:32

and dad because I don't want them to

22:34

be out of their mind with a worry, end

22:36

quote.

22:37

Becky was also very transparent

22:40

with some of her friends and family saying that the reason

22:42

that Tim had been threatening her was

22:45

because Tim did not want Becky to have

22:47

any of his money following the

22:49

divorce. There were multiple assets

22:51

like the house and different items

22:54

that were going to be at stake for Tim after

22:56

this divorce had gone through and be finalized

23:00

and Tim told Becky, quote, you will

23:02

die before you have any of

23:04

my money, end quote.

23:07

So with all of this being said, it is probably

23:09

no surprise to you when I tell you that the first

23:12

person the police wanted to look into in

23:14

this investigation was Tim

23:16

Blyfnick.

23:18

Between the worrisome comments that Becky's

23:20

family and friends were making along with the

23:22

tension that was rising during their

23:24

divorce process, it was no surprise

23:26

to anyone really that Tim became the police's

23:29

prime person of interest. At

23:32

first police were able to get a search warrant

23:34

for Tim's house and went through the home

23:36

on March 1st of 2023

23:39

and when they did that they collected several

23:42

items. The first item

23:44

that they found in Tim's house or the first

23:47

couple items that they found in Tim's house

23:49

were crowbars. They found one

23:51

crowbar in the basement of Tim's home

23:54

as well as several other crowbars scattered

23:56

throughout the house that they ended up collecting.

23:59

Police also discovered 27 shell

24:03

casings in Tim's basement

24:06

and they were able to take those shell casings

24:09

and match them to the ones that were found

24:12

in Becky's home and when they did that,

24:14

they discovered that the shell casings in the basement

24:17

and the shell casings that killed Becky were

24:20

the exact same. Police

24:23

were able to look through Tim's phone records

24:25

and also found several disturbing

24:28

searches that Tim had made on his

24:30

phone. These searches included

24:32

how to make my door open with a crowbar,

24:36

can I force my door open with

24:38

a crowbar if I lock myself out,

24:40

and how to make a homemade pistol

24:43

silencer. There were also

24:45

various types of gloves found

24:48

in Tim's basement including white latex

24:50

gloves. They also discovered plastic

24:52

bags from an Aldi's

24:54

grocery store that they believe were

24:57

used as Tim's homemade pistol

24:59

silencer.

25:00

Now the gloves that were discovered were not able

25:02

to be tested for any gunshot residue

25:04

because too much time had passed

25:07

since Becky's murder. However, police

25:09

did discover more ammunition in

25:12

Tim's garage including nine millimeter

25:14

bullets found in a box which was the

25:16

same type of shell casings that were found

25:19

at the crime scene of Becky's home

25:22

and as I mentioned earlier, Becky herself

25:24

did have a nine millimeter gun that

25:27

she believed Tim stole from

25:29

her so this really led police to the question

25:32

of was Becky murdered by

25:34

her own gun. When

25:36

searching through Tim's home, police found

25:39

a gun safe in Tim's bedroom.

25:41

However, when they opened it, the gun

25:43

safe was empty.

25:45

Tim did have a second nine

25:47

millimeter handgun that he had purchased himself

25:50

and kept in the downstairs area of his

25:52

home. However, Becky's gun has

25:54

yet to be recovered. Another

25:57

big thing that struck police's attention was

25:59

a bike. that was found near Tim's

26:01

home. The bike was not seemingly

26:03

broken or had any flat tires,

26:06

but the bike was left next to a garage

26:08

located about a block from

26:10

Tim's house. Police were able to

26:12

track the bike being sold by a man on

26:15

Facebook Marketplace in October

26:17

of 2022. The man said that he

26:20

did not remember who he sold the bike to,

26:22

but he did say that the man

26:25

purchased the bike in cash. Tim

26:27

also had another bike in his garage that

26:29

was

26:29

black, red, and white and had a rear

26:32

flat tire.

26:33

Now the reason that this is important is because

26:35

police do believe that Tim

26:38

rode a bike to Becky's house

26:40

on the night of her murder, and if Tim

26:43

were to have ridden a bike from his house

26:45

to Becky's house, it would have taken him

26:47

less than five minutes to get there.

26:50

Now part of the reason that this case has gotten a

26:52

lot of attention, as I mentioned in the beginning,

26:55

you guys may have heard about this case in the media,

26:57

is because this case is being referred

26:59

to as the family feud murders,

27:02

and the reason for that is because

27:04

in the year 2020, Tim and his family were

27:07

on an episode

27:10

of the TV show Family Feud,

27:12

and if you're unfamiliar with Family Feud, it is

27:15

a game show that's hosted by Steve

27:17

Harvey, and the premise of this show

27:20

is that

27:20

two families go up against each

27:23

other. You have one family on one side, another

27:25

family on the other, and Steve Harvey

27:27

goes through and asks them different

27:30

fill-in-the-blank type of questions, and

27:32

you're supposed to answer the fill-in-the-blank

27:35

based on what you believe

27:37

the public

27:38

would say.

27:40

So you're trying to guess what the most popular

27:42

answer from the public would be, and based

27:44

on that you get a certain amount of points. I

27:47

also apologize if that's not the best description

27:49

of the show. I don't really watch Family

27:51

Feud, however I do kind of know the premise

27:53

of it. So in the year 2020, Tim

27:57

went on Family Feud with his parents

27:59

and

27:59

his brothers. And while

28:02

he was on Family Feud, he was asked the

28:04

question, what is the worst mistake

28:07

that you can make on your

28:09

wedding day? And I'm just

28:11

going to let you listen to what he

28:13

said in his answer. He

28:15

wants the biggest mistake you made at

28:17

your wedding. Honey, I love you, but

28:19

said I do. Oh! Not

28:23

my mistake. Not my mistake. I

28:26

love my wife. So as you can tell,

28:28

Tim responds to this by saying that saying

28:30

I do was the biggest mistake

28:32

that someone could make on their wedding and

28:34

tries to backpedal a little bit, tries

28:36

to say that it's not his mistake, it's just what he

28:39

thinks people would say because he loves

28:41

his wife and then goes on to joke

28:43

about it a little bit afterwards by saying I'm

28:45

gonna get in trouble about that later, aren't

28:48

I? Now at first,

28:50

at first glance when this episode aired, Tim

28:53

just seemed like a little bit

28:55

of a jerk, for a

28:56

lack of a better word, to have an answer

28:58

such as that. However, looking back

29:00

on that episode and also knowing

29:03

that not even a year after that episode

29:05

was aired, Tim filed for

29:07

divorce from Becky. It's very,

29:10

very disturbing.

29:12

Tim was officially arrested on March 13th of 2023 for

29:14

the murder

29:18

of Becky Blyfnick. Tim has been

29:20

charged with two counts of first-degree murder

29:22

and one count of home invasion. Now

29:25

the information I have given you thus far has

29:27

been the information that has been presented at the

29:29

trial and the prosecution has

29:32

a strong, strong argument

29:34

that theorizes that in the early

29:37

morning hours of February 23rd,

29:39

Tim left his home where

29:41

his three boys

29:42

were sleeping in the middle of the night

29:45

and rode his bike from his house to

29:47

Becky's home. It's believed

29:50

that he attempted to use his crowbar

29:52

to open the front door, however, when

29:55

he was unsuccessful,

29:56

he attempted to go through the

29:59

window. The

30:01

reason that they believe that he went through the window

30:03

not only was because the window was open,

30:05

but there was also a chair that was leaning up against the

30:07

house that Tim would have been able to use to step

30:10

on to get into Becky's room.

30:13

Police believe that once Tim did get

30:15

inside of the home, there was a strong

30:17

struggle between him and Becky

30:19

and that Becky did her best to fight

30:22

back. They believe that Tim chased

30:24

Becky through her home as she frantically

30:26

attempted to call 911.

30:29

They then believe that Becky ran into

30:31

her bedroom and shut the door behind her.

30:34

However, Tim shot Becky through the bathroom

30:36

door where she then fell to the ground.

30:39

They then believe that Tim opened the bathroom

30:42

door and continued to shoot Becky several

30:44

more times before leaving

30:46

the house through the front door and

30:49

also leaving Becky to

30:51

die a slow and painful

30:53

death. So that is the prosecution's

30:55

argument. However, the defense

30:57

on the other hand believes that

30:59

even though Tim and Becky were

31:01

going through a very stressful and

31:03

tense divorce, that does not mean

31:05

that Tim is the killer. They

31:08

believe that the evidence against Tim is all circumstantial

31:10

and that Tim is an easy target.

31:13

The

31:13

defense stated that they believe that this could have

31:15

easily been a crime of opportunity, and they

31:18

also pointed fingers at the man that

31:20

Becky was dating at the time of her murder.

31:23

At the time that she was killed, Becky had

31:25

been recently seeing a man named Ted

31:27

Johnson. Ted and Becky met

31:29

back in January of 2022 and began seeing each other romantically

31:32

that summer. The

31:36

last time that Ted and Becky saw each other

31:39

was on February 21st, the

31:41

day after she had gotten surgery. Ted

31:43

had picked up food for Becky and delivered it

31:45

to her house and hung out there with her

31:48

for about an hour. He helped her get

31:50

situated for the night and helped her get into bed. And

31:52

on the evening

31:53

of February 22nd, just

31:55

hours before Becky's death, the

31:57

two had been texting.

31:59

Ted told Ted that she was just doing laundry

32:02

and paying some bills, but she was excited

32:04

to see her boys the following day, and

32:07

she was excited to drive again, since

32:09

her surgery had restricted her from doing so.

32:12

Ted and Becky ended their night with a 26 minute

32:15

phone call at 9.47pm before they hung up

32:17

for the night. Ted

32:20

continued to text Becky the following morning

32:22

on the 23rd, however got no

32:25

response. Now the defense

32:27

stated that Ted also owned a gun, which he

32:29

did. Ted owned a .40 caliber

32:32

Smith & Wesson gun, and while he

32:34

also used a 9mm handgun, he

32:37

had lost that to his ex-wife in

32:40

their divorce settlement. Now

32:42

something the defense also pointed out was that Ted

32:44

had been keeping a bag of money for Becky. Becky

32:48

had given him $13,000 in cash

32:51

that Ted had been keeping in his safe, however

32:53

Ted claims that he did not know

32:56

what was in the bag. Becky

32:59

had given Ted the bag not telling him

33:01

what was inside of it, and asked him

33:03

to hold on to it for her for a little bit.

33:06

Ted said that he never opened the bag

33:08

and saw what was inside of it, and he

33:10

claims that after Becky's death when police

33:13

told him that there was $13,000 inside of the bag, that

33:17

was the first time that he had ever known

33:19

that.

33:20

So basically the defense was trying to paint

33:22

a picture that Ted also could have had

33:25

a motive because he was holding on to $13,000

33:27

for Becky.

33:29

The defense asked Ted if he had left his house

33:31

on the late night hours of the 22nd

33:34

or on the early morning hours of the 23rd, and

33:36

Ted said that he did not remember

33:38

if he did. On

33:40

the stand Ted was very emotional,

33:43

and he stated that Becky was relieved that

33:45

the divorce was soon to be finished

33:47

between her and Tim.

33:49

And that is where we are currently at this trial.

33:52

I am filming this episode on May

33:54
