0:26
Right, first st up, all the way from Washington,
0:29
d C. Complements of the
0:31
Associated Press. President Joe
0:33
Biden, who took office aiming to steady a
0:35
nation convulsed by the coronavirus
0:37
pandemic and the January sixth insurrection,
0:40
clinched a second straight Democratic nomination
0:43
Tuesday and set up an all but certain
0:45
rematch with the predecessor he blames
0:47
for destabilizing the country. Biden
0:50
became his party's presumptive nominee
0:52
when he won enough delegates in Georgia
0:54
that pushed Biden's count past one nine
0:57
hundred and sixty eight for a majority of delegates
0:59
to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago
1:01
this August, where his nomination will
1:04
be made official. Former President
1:06
Donald Trump is expected to clinch the
1:08
Republican nomination shortly Biden,
1:11
who mounted his first bid for president
1:13
thirty seven years ago, did not face any serious
1:15
Democratic challengers to his run for
1:17
reelection at age eighty one. That's
1:19
despite facing low approval ratings
1:22
and a lack of voter enthusiasm
1:24
for his presidency, driven in part by
1:26
his age. Just thirty eight percent of
1:28
US adults approve of how Biden is
1:30
handling his job as president, while
1:33
sixty one percent disapprove, according
1:35
to a recent survey by the Associated
1:37
Press in r Center
1:39
for Public Affairs Research. So
1:43
no surprise is here. This is just kind
1:45
of the next step in the process.
1:48
He has secured the delegates
1:51
necessary to clinch the Democratic
1:53
nomination formally, and so
1:56
we will expect nothing
1:59
less, not the we would have. And
2:02
of course this is interesting
2:04
and it has us continuing
2:06
to ask the questions. You
2:09
know, how do we get here? If
2:11
you're like me, you recall Joe
2:14
Biden running as
2:16
a single term president. He was the man
2:19
at the time that we needed to
2:23
get Trump out of office. He was
2:26
not as far left as Bernie Sanders.
2:30
He had enough experience to went
2:33
away a lot of independents
2:37
who may have voted for Trump
2:39
but were less
2:41
than enthusiastic about a second Trump term,
2:44
and a lot of the bonafide Republicans
2:47
that, you know, we're
2:50
never Trumpers, the bonafide
2:52
Republicans that espoused
2:55
the philosophy
2:57
of the Lincoln Project. In other words,
2:59
people that would not vote for Donald Trump but felt
3:02
like they needed to preserve democracy.
3:05
Joe Biden represented a
3:08
solid choice that wouldn't take
3:11
the country too far left in
3:13
their opinion and in their estimation, and so
3:17
again him being the man for the job at the time,
3:21
you know, we understand that entirely. And
3:23
now, of course, the thinking is
3:25
that if Joe Biden be Donald Trump once,
3:27
he can do it again. But we
3:30
all have to bear in mind that this is a different
3:32
Joe Biden. This is a Joe Biden that has
3:35
had the reigns of the country. This is a Joe Biden
3:37
that was able to make promises to
3:39
a lot of the folks that voted to get him in office
3:42
and has
3:44
yet to deliver on a good number of those
3:46
promises. This is the same Joe Biden that has,
3:49
in a lot of people's opinions, mishandled
3:54
our relationship with Israel
3:56
and Palestine, and a
3:59
lot of people feel very strongly about
4:01
these and other things, his
4:04
immigration policies, his
4:07
age of course, and other
4:09
things. And so this Joe Biden may
4:12
not be the same Joe Biden that the
4:15
Democratic establishment felt was appropriate
4:17
for the job. However, again
4:20
we're asking the question, how did we get here? Because
4:24
a lot of articles,
4:27
a lot of polling, a lot of people
4:30
are suggesting that this
4:33
is one of the least enthusiastic
4:37
presidential races that
4:41
we will have to participate in. But this
4:44
is where we are, and it appears as
4:46
though Joe Biden is
4:49
our guy. So onward, moving
4:52
on. This comes from KTLA. One
4:54
of hip hop's biggest icons
4:56
will be honored in Los Angeles next week.
4:59
The legendary Doctor Dre will receive
5:01
his own star on the world famous
5:03
Hollywood Walk of Fame on March
5:05
nineteenth. The Compton born superstar
5:08
has sold more than fifty million albums worldwide,
5:10
plus another seven million when he was a
5:12
part of NWA. Doctor Dre's
5:15
starr will be placed at sixty eight forty
5:17
Hollywood Boulevard, where it will sit next
5:19
to longtime friend and fellow hip
5:21
hop legend Snoop Dogg. Snoop will
5:23
also be part of the ceremony to unveil Doctor Dre's
5:25
starr. He will be giving a speech along
5:27
with record executive Jimmy Ivan.
5:30
Drey has won eight Grammys for various roles
5:32
throughout his music career. The fifty nine year old
5:35
is also the co founder of Beats Headphones
5:37
with Ivan. In two thousand and
5:39
six, Doctor Dre's Starr will be
5:41
the two seven hundred and seventy fifth
5:43
to be placed on the Walk of Fame. So,
5:48
you know, Doctor Dre's list of accomplishments
5:51
is so far that
5:54
many of us might have already thought that he had a
5:56
star on the Walk of Fame. This
5:58
was news to me. I just assumed
6:00
that it was there. But he's
6:04
finally getting his star. And
6:06
I think it was inevitable that he
6:08
would have received a star there, but I guess it's
6:10
just a matter of timing for him.
6:13
And you know, this is
6:15
this is black excellence, this is California
6:18
excellence. You know it as a Californian. You
6:21
know, I'm from Compton, so I'm
6:24
always proud to see people
6:27
from Compton, people that represent Compton
6:30
being recognized for their
6:32
contributions to you know,
6:34
the world. There's a lot
6:36
of hopelessness, a
6:39
lot of fear, a lot of
6:43
negativity associated with Compton,
6:45
California. So anytime that there's a
6:48
light that can be shined
6:51
on on Compton, it
6:54
certainly makes me happy. And of course here on the
6:56
Black Information Network, we applaud
6:59
excellence as this.
7:06
This is your midweek memo on the Black
7:08
Information Network Daily Podcast with Me

your host ramses Ja.
7:16
All right, a little bit more with music
7:18
news, This coming from CNN. On Tuesday,
7:20
Beyonce announced by her site and
7:22
social media that her forthcoming album
7:25
is Act two, Cowboy Carter,
7:27
and set to arrive March twenty ninth.
7:30
In a recent interview with Knox News, Dolly
7:32
Parton was asked about speculation
7:34
Beyonce had recorded one of Parton's hits
7:37
for her new album. Quote, well, I think
7:39
she has. I think she's recorded Joe
7:41
Lene, and I think it's probably going to be on
7:43
her country album, which I'm very excited about
7:45
that. Unquote Parton's said,
7:48
the queen of country music has great
7:50
admiration for Queen b quote
7:52
I love her, pardon said about Beyonce.
7:55
She goes on to say she's a beautiful
7:57
girl and a great singer. We've kind
7:59
of sent messages back and forth through the years,
8:01
She added, and she and her mother
8:03
were like fans, and I was always touched that they
8:05
were fans, and I always thought she was great.
8:08
Unquote. This is not the first time
8:10
she spoken about Beyonce. After Beyonce's
8:12
new single Texas Hold Him hit the top of the country
8:15
chart, Parton posted a statement on social media.
8:17
Quote, I'm a big fan of Beyonce and very excited
8:19
that she's done a country album, Parton
8:21
wrote. In her statement, she goes on to say, so, congratulations
8:24
on your Billboard Hot Country number one
8:26
single. So a
8:30
shout out to Beyonce, and you
8:32
know, shout out to Dolly Parton. I
8:35
remember us reporting on kind of the backlash
8:38
when Beyonce decided
8:40
to go country, and
8:43
there were a lot of folks that were upset about that.
8:45
A lot of folks had a lot to say about Beyonce
8:49
recording a country album, And
8:51
of course around here we exposed
8:56
the very black roots
8:58
of country music and
9:01
rock music and pretty
9:04
much all the Western music that we enjoy. You
9:07
can trace it to a slave field somehow.
9:10
And so Beyonce
9:12
is well within her rights. He's
9:15
well in her lane if she chooses to make a country
9:17
album. But of course, as I mentioned, a lot of people
9:19
had a lot to say about that. Well. I think
9:21
if the Queen of Country herself says
9:24
that she's a big fan of Beyonce and excited about
9:27
this country album, then really
9:30
we don't have to listen to too many other folks, and
9:32
obviously Beyonce with that number one,
9:35
I think that speaks for itself. So shout out to Beyonce one
9:37
more time, and
9:40
I hope the album is a
9:43
big hit. All right. Finally, this
9:46
is coming from the Black Information Network.
9:49
Only one black person made Forbes list
9:51
of the highest Paid Actors of twenty twenty three.
9:53
Forbes released its annual highest Paid Actors list
9:55
last week, with Denzel Washington being
9:57
the only black person to make the rank.
10:00
Out of the ten highest paid actors, Washington
10:02
came in the last on the list, reportedly
10:04
earning twenty four million dollars for his roles
10:07
in twenty twenty three. According to Forbes,
10:09
Washington made the highest paid actors list alongside
10:12
Adam Sandler, who topped the rankings with its reported
10:14
seventy three million Margo Robie followed
10:16
Sandler with fifty nine million in earnings.
10:19
Tom Cruise, Ryan Gosling, Matt Damon, Jennifer
10:21
Aniston, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason
10:23
Statham, and Ben Affleck also
10:25
made the list. The rankings come amid
10:27
criticisms from Taraji p Henson
10:30
that other black actors and
10:32
other black actors sorry about pay disparities
10:34
in Hollywood. So, you
10:39
know, when you think of the
10:42
black actors in Hollywood,
10:45
when you think of the famous names,
10:48
when you think of the Will
10:51
Smiths and the Kevin Harts and the
10:54
Idris Elbas and the you know,
10:56
that's a very long list, and
11:02
you recognize that there's
11:04
only one that made the list
11:07
in last place, Denzel Washington,
11:09
who you would imagine would be maybe
11:13
a little higher up on that list.
11:16
Maybe there's some credibility to
11:19
well, there's certainly some credibility what rogip
11:21
engine is saying. Of course, we've known that for years. But
11:24
maybe this runs deeper than
11:26
she's than she even knows, than
11:29
we even know. Now
11:31
that, of course is speculation. Maybe
11:34
this is just how twenty
11:36
twenty three shaped out. Maybe twenty
11:38
twenty two and twenty twenty four were
11:41
and will be different. But
11:43
it's just interesting to note
11:45
that this
11:48
is where Denzel lands and
11:50
he is one name
11:53
among a plethora of
11:56
black actors that we would consider royalty
11:58
in that field. And so I
12:01
certainly know that I'll be watching a little
12:03
bit more closely, because you know, I don't really give too much
12:07
attention to entertainment,
12:09
news, that sort of stuff. But
12:12
when I see patterns, as I do, admittedly,
12:16
you know, it starts to make me scratch
12:18
my head and wonder if there's a little bit something deeper there.
12:21
So you know, again tragipans and maybe onto
12:23
something, because you
12:25
know, what she's saying about black women is
12:27
again something that we've known for some time, but
12:30
again maybe it runs deeper, and now
12:34
we're watching, so we'll keep paying attention.
12:36
I employ you to do the same, and if
12:38
you find out something, please you can always
12:40
reach out and let us know. And of
12:43
course my job is to reach out and let you know what I find out.
