- We will convert that video to audio. We will pull the title, we will pull the metadata,
0:05
we will pull the chapter notes, and we will automatically publish that video
0:10
as an audio podcast that you have to do nothing.
0:12
You can be at sleep in the middle of the night, and your new episode will post so long
0:16
as you have posted your new video to that YouTube platelet.

You're listening to Podcast Insider, hosted by Mike Dell,
0:24
Todd Cochrane, and Mackenzie Bennett from the Blueberry
0:27
team, bringing you weekly insights, advice, and insider tips
0:31
and tricks to help you start, grow and thrive through podcasting.
0:35
All with the sport of your team here at Blueberry Podcasting.
0:38
Welcome. Let's dive in. This is Todd Cochrane, CEO
0:44
and Co-founder of Blueberry Podcasting. - And I'm Mike Dell, the VP
0:48
of Customer Relations here at Blueberry. - We have some exciting features to talk about today,
0:53
widgets for your website and our very exciting bid to pod.
0:58
- Yeah, well, let's, let's get with widgets first.
1:01
Uh, of course they've been available in the dashboard.
1:04
We kinda soft launch them, but, uh, if you haven't tried them out yet,
1:08
you can find them under show manage and then widgets.
1:12
And what they are are little things you can
1:15
stick on your website. Uh, a lot of 'em are Podcast 2.0.
1:20
Uh, and the nice thing about this is it works on any website
1:24
that will take an I Frame, not just in WordPress.
1:29
So we're branching out a little bit from WordPress kind of,
1:33
- And these widgets are really designed to take many
1:37
of the features that we have added to our, our platform
1:42
and for you to be able to showcase those features, uh,
1:46
on your website or partner websites or wherever it may be.
1:49
And I think what I'm really excited about this is,
1:53
is while we're have the functions in podcast apps, a lot of the,
1:59
the podcasting 2.0 apps [email protected] have many
2:03
of these features built into the app.
2:06
This is actually taking the ability for you
2:08
to display a widget on your website that allows you
2:12
to show stuff off like your audience survey your funding,
2:15
your boosto gram, your pod roll, um, to be able
2:19
to show these functions off in a way that, uh, allows you
2:22
to get web exposure to, uh, the features that are in your,
2:25
your RSS feed and things that we have set up for you, uh,
2:29
both in the dashboard and then in Power Press.
2:32
- Yeah, I really like the pod roll one.
2:35
'cause you know, you years ago used to be that, uh,
2:39
blogs out there would have what's known as a blog roll.
2:42
So it was whatever the blogger wanted to promote.
2:46
And it was, you know, it was pretty slick where you,
2:50
you know, you, you could cross promote blogs that you liked.
2:54
Well, this brings that to podcasting.
2:57
Now, of course, that was podcasting 2.0 that brought
3:00
that in the namespace, but now we're gonna surface that on the websites.
3:04
And, you know, I, I really like it 'cause you know, I do more than one show.
3:07
I do this show, I do a couple other shows
3:10
and I like to be able to cross promote those, you know,
3:13
'cause people that tend to like you will also like some
3:17
of the shows that you like or some of the other shows that you do.
3:21
So it's, it's really kind of slick that way.
3:25
- You know, the widget for pod roll is one of those
3:28
that you can place in a sidebar of your website
3:31
or maybe in a post. And I like being to put it right in the post
3:34
because as people are reading my episode show notes,
3:37
they can see directly the podcasts that I recommend
3:42
and click over to their website to be able to subscribe to them.
3:45
So I think the pod role function gives you the ability to,
3:49
again, like Mike said, promote other podcasts that you like
3:54
and love, including your own other, other shows as well.
3:57
I think my pod role, I think I've got six or seven shows that I listen to consistently
4:02
that I have recommended in my pod role,
4:04
and that will be able to give my audience ability.
4:07
I just say in the podcast, Hey, check the show notes out.
4:09
You'll see my pod roll and within the pod roll, uh, embed will be the, uh,
4:14
the album art and a link to go over to the show.
4:16
So I think that's one thing that's really, really exciting.
4:19
And another thing, you know, we, we've given you the ability
4:21
for a long time to embed your audience survey link.
4:25
Mm-Hmm. <affirmative>. And, but sometimes that takes a little bit of work.
4:27
Um, you gotta, you know, put a little something together on your website
4:31
and you have to link it and make sure that it all looks well.
4:34
Well, this is easy. You just grab this embed and drop it.
4:38
You can put it in show notes, you can drop it the sidebar.
4:40
And again, it gives you, and, and when I run my annual audience survey,
4:44
it gives the listeners a link them to fill out.
4:47
And, and what's cool about it is it's only gonna show up in
4:50
the three or four episodes during that month when I'm promoting the survey that, so as soon
4:55
as the, the episode that I stop promoting the,
4:58
the audience survey in, I don't have to put the,
5:00
the widget in there no more. I don't have to put the in bed,
5:03
it carries over into those older episodes. But again, it allows me to distinctly have a campaign.
5:09
And, uh, it's not necessarily sidebar, uh, where I have
5:12
to take it or uptake it down. I can leave it up in those episodes.
5:15
It makes it really, really nice. Or, - Or you could just leave it up all the time.
5:19
That's up to you. But, uh, that's, you know, the,
5:22
the way you're doing it actually helps, you know,
5:24
promote people filling it out. Whereas, you know, we promote
5:28
that we have one in our show notes every every episode,
5:32
and we'll be using this widget of course, instead of, uh,
5:35
the link that we've been putting in there. <laugh>, - Another thing that we have is similar
5:40
to our sidebar in Power Press, where you can add your
5:44
subscribed links, uh, and, and modify that so that they're round or square.
5:48
And there's, you know, there's some options in there in Power Press.
5:51
Not all of you are running Power Press on your website.
5:55
Maybe you are running a Wix website
5:57
and you're using the dashboard Mm-Hmm, <affirmative> or you're on a Squarespace or something like that.
6:02
And you don't have an easy way to put the subscribe, follow,
6:05
uh, icons on your website. Well, this is real easy. You, again, it gives you the links
6:10
and logos for people to follow your show on podcast apps.
6:13
So any, any of the destinations that you have, uh,
6:17
basically organized Mm-Hmm, <affirmative>, um, in the destination section, both in power
6:21
and on the dashboard, will show up in the subscribe
6:24
and follow, uh, embed. And again, it's just another way to be able
6:28
to place a easily place, um, these subscribe buttons.
6:33
And maybe you wanna do this on, you know, maybe you have a dedicated page
6:36
and haven't had really the ability to, to promote all the different destinations.
6:40
So really this is really designed to put, have this, uh,
6:43
box put anywhere you want with all those, uh,
6:45
with all those icons. - Yeah. And the next two are, uh, you know, a lot
6:49
of people are talking about monetizing shows.
6:51
Well, there's, there's ways to do it with advertising,
6:54
but there's also the value for value
6:57
and Podcast 2.0 has the two tags, the funding tag
7:01
and the, uh, and the value tag, which, uh,
7:05
turns into boosto grams or streaming Satoshis.
7:09
Uh, we've got that now where you could put
7:11
that right on your website. And the funding tag would be like something like a PayPal
7:17
donate link or a Buy Me a Coffee
7:20
or a Patreon, something like that.
7:22
Any sort of donation site. Or if you have a specific page on your site, you can throw
7:26
that in the funding tag. And this widget will just, uh, have
7:31
that right there on there. So if they wanna donate to your show, there'll be one link
7:35
and you can put that anywhere. And then the value for value boosts, uh, you know,
7:41
just like in some of the podcast 2.0 apps,
7:43
the new apps [email protected]
7:47
or podcast apps.com. I don't know, there's probably 10 <laugh>,
7:51
10 ways to get there. But anyway, any of those new apps, uh, you can
7:56
send a Boosto gram, which is a little message with a,
7:58
with some, uh, satoshi in it, uh, bits of Bitcoin.
8:03
And now you can do that right from your website,
8:06
or actually your listeners can do that right from your website if you use this widget.
8:11
- One of the ones that is also kind of cool is how do you give credit?
8:15
Well, show credits is another feature where you put,
8:18
let's say you and your co-host as the host and co-host
8:21
or maybe dual host titles. And then you have a guest.
8:24
Well, this, uh, show credit, uh,
8:28
widget will allow you on an episode by episode basis
8:31
to basically, um, give a, give a credit
8:34
and have that credit show up on your website with your guest
8:38
and, um, and their link to their website.
8:40
So you can have essentially two embeds.
8:42
You can have one for you and your co-host, or just you
8:45
and another embed right next to it with your guests.
8:48
And really what it does, it spices up each episode so that
8:51
as people land on your website, they can see your picture
8:54
as you have the ability to link a picture, your guest picture, and then maybe a, um, a link
8:59
to either your or the guest's LinkedIn page.
9:02
It really depends on how you want to, uh,
9:05
to mix it up. Pretty - Much any link you can put in - There.
9:08
Yeah. Or, or a bio link or site link.
9:10
Um, but again, the credits is a, um,
9:14
it gives you the ability to show your host producers
9:17
and, and guests Of course. - Yeah. And, you know, there's a whole list
9:20
of different things you can give credit for <laugh>.
9:22
So you, you could make it, uh, almost like the credits at the end
9:26
of a movie, you know, <laugh>. But - It's true.
9:29
If you've got someone that's the editor or co-producer
9:32
or does the transcripts for you
9:34
or someone that's providing value and you wanna, you can put, give 'em a title
9:38
and put them in your show credits. And again, this is something that you can use to recognize,
9:43
you know, again, what we've done here and what's been done is you are now giving value back
9:47
by promoting the people that are helping you.
9:49
And again, the guests that are being on the show in a very,
9:52
very smart, professional way. Um, instead of just putting some links, some hyperlink
9:57
and some text to them on your website, it really can s sp up your post, uh, for your episodes.
10:02
And again, you can put this maybe on a status page
10:05
or something in about page. These, these widgets can live almost anywhere. Yeah.
10:10
- That's the, the beauty of it here. This next one actually, that you use this one a lot.
10:16
Uh, so you, 'cause you go live with pretty much every show.
10:19
We don't go live on this show anymore, but, uh, talk about that live widget.
10:24
- Yeah. The live widget is when you set the time
10:26
that you're going to go live, the widget will update
10:29
with the date and time along with the time zone.
10:32
And, um, it'll, that basically updates on your website automatically.
10:36
So this is designed to live maybe permanently in the sidebar
10:40
or wherever you're promoting your live event to show when the next live is.
10:44
And then when you send out the live signal, basically saying
10:48
that you are going live, and the mechanism that happens there, the widget will update
10:52
to live, and it'll show that you're green, that you're in the studio, that you're live,
10:56
and that basically that widget will link to your live page
10:59
so that you can take 'em to the live page to participate,
11:01
to either watching the audio or listening to audio
11:04
or watching the video or produce, uh,
11:06
participate in the chat room. And then when the show ends, when you,
11:10
when you basically have finished a live, the status changes on that icon to say that the,
11:15
the live show has ended kind, - Kind of like a rally light for your website.
11:19
You know, like an old radio station, you have a on air light, you know, it's kind of that thing.
11:23
- And then when you update the, the information on when your next live event's gonna be,
11:28
it'll update and it'll show your next live
11:30
and give the advertising right on your website
11:32
or that next live event. So it's just a cool little tool, like it is, it's kind
11:36
of like a tally light, Hey, we're live or we're off air,
11:39
or here's the upcoming event. So again, you can send those links to, um,
11:44
the locations you want, uh, from that widget,
11:47
but basically it just gives you the ability to advertise it,
11:50
click on it, and you can then have your audience participate. Right?
11:53
- And here, here's one that I think is kind of cool, is if,
11:56
say you have a, uh, landing page for, you know, new,
12:01
new possible listeners, you could throw a widget
12:04
for your trailer up, and that way you've got your trailer linked, you know,
12:08
all the time and playable right there on your website,
12:12
you know, so if someone comes to your website, it's not sure they wanna listen,
12:16
they wanna hear a little bit more about the show, they can play that trailer right there.
12:20
So that's kind of an easy, easy way to do a trailer episode,
12:25
uh, mark it as trailer in, uh, you know,
12:28
when you publish the episode. And there it's, so anyway, kind of a neat little widget.
12:33
- Now, as, as a ri reminder, these widgets are not just
12:36
for WordPress, therefore, any website will take an iframe embed.
12:40
- Basically, if you could throw a YouTube, uh,
12:42
embed in into your website, you can do these.
12:45
- Yep, exactly. So I think we can move on
12:48
and talk about our most exciting announcement that's getting a lot of buzz.
12:52
Oh, yeah. Um, this has been available for about a week now,
12:55
and, uh, it's a new product called Vid two Pod
12:59
and, uh, I think vid to pod video to podcast.
13:03
But Vid two Pod is a way for video first creators, uh,
13:07
YouTubers to have an audio podcast
13:09
version of the show available. Now, if you think about it, if you,
13:13
if you are focused on doing video first,
13:16
but yet you want a podcast,
13:19
but don't wanna go through the hassle of creating an audio version, cross posting,
13:23
doing all the things that are needed to produce an episode,
13:26
well, we've got a solution for you. Um, we have the ability now
13:31
to automatically create a podcast episode from any new video
13:36
you put in a designated playlist in YouTube.
13:39
Now, we're gonna probably expand this beyond YouTube,
13:42
but currently it's for YouTube, uh, more services
13:45
to be added, uh, as we figure out the mechanism to do so.
13:49
But again, it will automatically create a
13:52
podcast episode for you. So we will actually, soon as you post to your YouTube
13:56
playlist, we will query that playlist on a regular basis.
13:59
And when it's, when we see there's a new, I don't know if you wanna call it episode
14:03
or post, lemme see there's a new, - A new video.
14:06
- We will convert that video to audio. We will pull the title, we will pull the metadata,
14:11
we will pull the chapter notes, and we will automatically publish that video
14:17
as an audio podcast that you have to do nothing. You can be at sleep in the middle of the night
14:20
and your new episode will post so long
14:23
as you have posted your new video to that YouTube playlist.
14:26
So this is really, again, for friends of yours
14:30
that are doing podcasts on YouTube,
14:33
but yet they're not in Apple Podcasts, they're not on Spotify, they're not available
14:37
where you listen to podcasts.
14:39
So we think, and based upon the feedback we're getting already
14:43
and the amount of folks that are telling other YouTubers about this,
14:48
this is a product that might be for someone
14:50
that you're listening to, or maybe you have been posting
14:54
double posting, and maybe you're video first already, and,
14:57
but you still want an audio podcast, but don't wanna do the extra work,
15:00
- The big time saver for, uh, you know, for YouTubers.
15:04
And you get that extra exposure as a YouTuber.
15:07
You know, you're, people would know, you know, based on
15:11
what you say in the show, but you, you know, you let 'em know, Hey,
15:14
this is available on YouTube. It's a YouTube channel or whatever.
15:18
Uh, the other beauty of this is you do have the option
15:21
to have an audio only show. You can come to blueberry
15:24
and just publish an MP three if you want, as something extra
15:28
or maybe put a trailer in or something like that, where, you know,
15:33
so this could be used to, uh, actually promote your YouTube
15:37
or vice versa. You know, we're kind of flipping the script a little bit.
15:41
You know, a lot of people do podcasts
15:43
and also a video channel. Well, these are for, this is for people
15:47
that do a video channel and also wanna do podcasts.
15:50
- The, the big, the big thing that we realize is we were at an event recently
15:55
and someone comes and says, oh, I got a podcast. And I said, great, let me look it up in Apple Podcast.
16:00
And the guy looked at me kind of funny. He says, no, I'm on YouTube. I'm like, well,
16:03
your podcast is not an Apple podcast.
16:05
And, and there was this bewildered look
16:07
upon this creator space. Well, he, you know, what do you mean?
16:11
I'm like, well, I can go to YouTube, but I wanna subscribe
16:14
and follow your show on a podcast app.
16:17
Oh, I don't have that. Well, this is, this fixes that
16:20
and allows a video podcaster or video one on the YouTube channel be able
16:25
to have a podcast. And maybe, you know, this is another thing too,
16:29
is this could be a secondary show. It doesn't prevent you from also coming into the blueberry
16:35
platform and having your own website. All the things still apply.
16:38
You can still have a free WordPress site from us.
16:41
We don't cross post to that automatically.
16:43
We do this all in the dashboard, but it still allows you to have an RSS feed
16:48
that you can submit to Apple Podcasts.
16:51
You can submit via the platform to Spotify.
16:54
Um, this is a, um, a product that you do have to have, um,
16:59
the advanced hosting plan, $20 minimum, uh, plan to do this.
17:03
And, uh, storage limits do apply.
17:05
So if you're produ producing 8, 9, 10, 12, 20 videos, uh,
17:10
a month, you will need a higher hosting plan
17:12
to handle all the audio. But at a minimum, you need to be on the $20 plan.
17:16
That should cover most folks, because the video conversion is not that big.
17:20
This is the only time we ever will actually touch someone's
17:24
content and create audio for them. And it's specifically designed that way to make it easier.
17:29
And the best thing really, getting back to the, one
17:32
of the points I made earlier is you published your playlist
17:34
on YouTube and within an hour,
17:37
your podcast episode is also public. That
17:39
- Eliminates a lot of the work. I, I, I watch a lot of YouTube channels
17:43
and some of them do also do a podcast version, you know,
17:48
an audio podcast version. And this one in particular that I, uh, that I listened
17:53
to mostly on audio. He was complaining the other day, oh,
17:58
I got all this extra work. I've got all this, uh, you know, extra expense
18:02
and I'm gonna have to do some advertising
18:04
or something and, and all that. Well, that, you know, a little bit extra expense,
18:08
but no more work. And that's the beauty of it.
18:12
Once it's set up and it's real easy to set up, it's,
18:15
it's just you set it up as another publishing method in blueberry, uh, you know,
18:19
like we have Power Press, we have our dashboard,
18:22
and now we have this the to pod,
18:26
and it's just, it, it eliminates a lot of the hand work.
18:29
And you're, you know, you're free to come in and edit the show notes if you want.
18:33
You can, you can put out an ep a separate episode
18:36
from YouTube if you want. All that is still available.
18:39
It's just, you know, if you don't wanna do anything, you don't have to.
18:42
- Now we will have a video, uh,
18:46
demoing this linked in the show notes.
18:48
Uh, we're actually gonna be doing, or at this point, have done a live event at, uh,
18:54
podcast movement evolutions that lays out, uh,
18:57
how this works and, um, how, how easy the setup is.
19:01
It really is remarkably easy, um, to,
19:06
to create and get this set up. Um, the onboarding is just a little bit, uh, different in
19:12
that we have you go two extra steps in the onboarding.
19:15
It's primarily to be able to, to find your channel
19:17
and also to link your playlist
19:20
and reach some additional terms and service that we need from, uh, those of you
19:24
that are YouTube creators. Um, but I think you're gonna find this, uh,
19:28
remarkably, uh, simple. And if you already have a blueberry account,
19:31
you just add a new account, uh, to the platform,
19:34
and then you can create the, um,
19:38
in the settings you're gonna find, when you decide what type
19:41
of show this is gonna be, you'll have the ability to,
19:43
to link up your YouTube account. But we'll have that all in the documentation and,
19:46
and demo videos that are gonna be linked in today's episode.
19:50
- And, and, you know, I think the goal that we had, uh,
19:52
this was, came up with, uh, from, uh, our head of finance,
19:57
uh, Barry <laugh>. And, uh, he, he came up with the idea
20:00
and we just ran with it and our dev team just knocked it out of the park.
20:04

20:08

20:14
that already have a YouTube channel and never really even thought of podcasting.
20:19
So, you know, if you know a YouTuber that, uh,
20:21
their show would lend themselves to podcasting as well,
20:24
or you'd like to be able to take 'em on the go, yeah.
20:26

20:33

20:36
of you're watching YouTube channels that you wish you could listen on the go.
20:40
And, um, this is, this is the key here.
20:42
And, and we have to educate these YouTubers as well, say,
20:45
Hey, there's a difference. Yes, you're able to have a great video experience,
20:50
but I've got more time to listen than I do to watch.
20:52
I'd love to listen to your show and, um,
20:55
and let 'em know that this product's available, vid to pod,
20:58
