On this episode of Blunt Force Truth, Chuck and Mark are joined by Dr. Kiran Musunuru. Dr. Musunuru joins us to share more about his
book called The CRISPR Generation: The Story of the World's First Gene-Edited Babies and his work in gene editing. 

Chuck and Mark kick off today by asking Dr. Musunuru what CRISPR is and how it is used. Dr. Musunuru explains his work in the field and
what it can mean for the medical and scientific communities. 

They continue their conversation by asking Dr. Musunuru about the misuse of this kind of technology by governments or other organizations. They discuss some of the negatives that come with gene editing and consider the unknowns. 

Chuck and Mark finish up by asking Dr. Musunuru about his book. He explains how the book details the dark side of gene editing and what
else readers can expect.

KIRAN MUSUNURU, MD, PhD, MPH, ML, author of The CRISPR Generation: The Story of the World's First Gene-Edited Babies, is one of the world’s leading experts in genetics and gene editing, is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Genetics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Musunuru studied and trained at Harvard University, Cornell University Medical College, The Rockefeller University, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the genetics of heart disease and seeks to identify genetic factors that protect against disease and
use them to develop therapies to protect the entire population. In his recent work he has been using gene editing to create a one-shot “vaccination” against heart attacks, the leading cause of death worldwide.
