This is just the right kind of slow burn mystery that has me hooked from the start and keeps me at the edge of my seat. You can clearly tell Mahnke´s got a lot of back story from Lore, and this show manages to bring that creepy vibe into the story. Also Lauren Shippen has an uniqe gift for writing interesting and story driving dialogue. A really well done show that immediately made it to my "to listen to as soon as it releases" list
A fantastic voice cast really carries this story that sounds great but doesn't answer too many of its own questions in season one with our lead stalling out in a loop of unknowing that the listener can relate to. Our protagonist in fact complains about being in the dark about everything and listening to all ten episodes does not relieve that for the listener either. The solid sound design delivers all the spooky vibes and creepy feels you could want, and there's lots of mystery to be had but only after a few seasons will we know if it goes anywhere substantial.
This was pretty lame considering all the talent and money behind it. The story was not very original or compelling (basic "spirits on the other side") and most of the dialogue was just two characters arguing with each other over whether or not the supernatural exists.
This is a lovely listen so far. As someone who loves a good audio drama (see Tanis and Rabbits) with mystery and suspense, this is a captivating story from the get go. I can't wait to get swept up in the mythology and characters of this world. Looking forward to the next episode!
Waited to listen until the first season was fully out. Kind of wish I had not done that as it meant I waited to long to get into this show. Such an amazing slow burn, really well written and voiced. Can not wait to find out where season two goes!
So far, this is an intriguing podcast. Have subscribed and will continue to listen.
Bridgewater grabbed my interest from the very start and despite some hiccups along the way, it kept me engaged throughout. The voice acting - often a peeve of mine in audio drama - is excellent. The characters are interesting, with clear motives for their behaviour. I do think that all of the characters could have been explored in even more depth though; I felt like I had to build the fuller picture and make my own interpretations based on initial info given. The 'bad guys' are particularly shallower and less memorable than the much better written heroes. The atmosphere ramps up to some very tense moments, unlike which I've experienced in audio fiction before. As the series progressed I was hoping for more original encounters rather than variations of the same but each story beat does deliver something new.The final plot twist is pretty predictable but it's the potential of what it might mean, rather than shock value, that left me longing for a second season. I hope a new batch of episodes arrives soon.
A great story (involving cults, folklore, and creepy things in the woods--my favorite), great characters, and great production values.
Bridgewater Triangle is known for alleged supernatural sightings such as ghostly orbs and humanoid entities. I'm super excited to know Aaron Mahnke has based this show upon such a phenomenon. Anne Becker is a hard-headed, stubborn, and a retired cop who's hellbent on finding Thomas Bradshaw. Let's assume Jeremy sheds his skepticism in the next season.
With Aaron Mahnke and Lauren Shippen as creators, plus this cast, you're in for a good time! Very well told, very well acted, and good sound design. A definite 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' vibe, which is not a bad thing.
Middling and derivative. I'm glad people are being paid to make this podcast. I just wish it didn't feel so workshopped by committee to be as bland and marketable as possible.
Great production and excellent voice acting. Loved the premise but the main character spent too much time in denial and arguing regardless of the evidence right in front of his face. I don’t like when characters discount facts because they point towards something not currently understood. Other than that little annoyance I enjoyed the sufficiently spooky story and ambiance so I'll definitely be back to see where season 2 takes us.
Top notch acting, story, sound effects. Plenty of suspense that keeps you coming back for more. Can't wait for future episodes.
Bridgewater is an excellent serialised supernatural thriller. It follows one person trying to get to the bottom of a mystery from their life, with various characters assisting along the way. If you recognise any of the impressive names involved with Bridgewater you'll already have an idea of how good the show is. Created by Aaron Mahnke and written by Lauren Shippen, it has a fantastic story and the cast perform it superbly. The episodes of season one are all 30 minutes or under, so just under four and a half hours of runtime. Definitely worth a (re-)listen before the new season is released in January.
Great storytelling, really enjoyed the cast. I think some podcasts the actors struggle to convey emotions without the visuals, but not this cast. They draw you into the story, so many little twists and turns!
Pulled in right away.
I love this podcast. Misha does a great job! I do miss Nathan Fillion as Thomas.
Slow burn, draws you in pretty quickly and is very well produced. Really hope there's a season 2 because it ends on a cliffhanger.
I binged this show in one day - and there is a lot to love here. A collaboration between Aaron Mahnke and Lauren Shippen? Well that's a goddam dynamite idea. Lauren leads the pack when it comes to Audio Dramas and the writing here is tense and clever. The direction and acting is first-rate, with special recognition to Melissa Ponzio's Anne and Karan Soni's Vipin. And so much of the lore at the heart of this story is eerie and exciting. Phantom voicemails? Six-foot dogs with red eyes? human sacrifice?! But there are also moments where it feels like you have to fight to keep your interest in this story. Misha Collins is a bummer as Jeremy - when he's not asking endless "but how?" questions to keep the plot unfolding, he's reminding you that he's a skeptic (as if you could forget.) Misha just seems like he's very bored the entire series and it weighs on you. I understand why Jeremy needs to be a sceptic, both from a characterization standpoint and a story structure standpoint, but there's a hour of "there's a rational explanation!" that just isn't needed to remind me our protagonists are at odds. Some shows end so spectacularly that it leaves you begging for a second season. Other shows leave you with so many loose ends that a second season is a necessity. This show sits firmly in the latter camp, and it's a shame because there is so much in the first eight episodes of this show that are so good. Dogs with red eyes and phantom voicemails, if we're lucky this show will continue and we'll get some answers.
Excellent cast and acting, top-notch sound design, and a fascinating story make this a highly entertaining and immersive series.
